Linda (stylist of 36 years) cut my hair Sunday 06/17/18 Evening @ 4pm. I showed her a few pictures (below) and expressed concern for difficulty of getting the cut right. It's a mix of a few styles. I told her I want an A LINE LONG BOB of sorts. I explicitly said, I'm not a hair stylist so I don't know the correct terminology so please forgive me. The photos and language were the template that created the style I LOVED. The photos of me in pink are the results of the hair cut I desired. I take responsibility for the results I received and think it's fair to share my experience here. Linda finished cutting my hair and it was nothing like I desired. I grabbed the chunks of hair I wanted to be shorter. I sat back down and she went at my hair another round. There was a moment of chatter about having my hair short- I said, YES! "I want it short in the back, like a cute short cut". I trusted her as she again was confident and motivated. She grabbed the clippers, touched the back of my neck and asked me if that's where I wanted it. I waited a few moments and clarified, "that's where I want my hair to end, yes". Before I knew it, she used the clippers up most of the back of my head. It was too late to say anything and I hoped for the best. What I ended up with was a look like friar tuck in the back. A bowl cut in the back. Two inches of my hair laid in from the top in the back creating a straight horizontal line with buzzed hair below it. The sides of my hair remained longer and untouched except for a trim. I asked her two times for some long bangs in the front. She didn't do anything to the front. The hair on the sides were to be angled. An a line, I expressed. These hairs were horizontal. By the time I looked at the back I wasn't interested in having her cut my hair anymore. I went home. Cryed. Had my bf do some blending in the back so the straight line wouldn't be so bold. I also did a little angle cutting on the hair in the front on the left side. I'm so unhappy with this cut, I feel like I was raped. I was courageous and used my voice to get what I wanted and then she went all the way for whatever reason. I would have NEVER told her to buzz the back of my hair. I realize afterwards, that I could have said, "do a short cut in the back like a long pixie". By then it was too late. I got a wild do and that's that. I get to grow it out and share my experience. I realized earlier this year that if I don't speak up, others will fall victim. Go to your hair stylists with empowered voice. Say what you want and have them repeat back to you what they heard. Clarify for your sake. Clarify so you get what you want. Don't just trust people to do what they want because they only know what's in their experience. Tell them what you want with courage. read more

I'm a creature of habit and once I find a hairdresser I like, I'm pretty much theirs for life. Since relocating from the UK, I'd lost all my previous business contacts and was having to start all over again. My Mother-In-Law recommended the Indulge Salon at Dillard's as she used to go there before she moved to Charleston NC. I went a few times and enjoyed the experience, although felt that the aromatic scalp and hand massage beforehand was a little excessive as I'm there for a hair cut, not a spa treatment, however the prices here are higher than, say, a Supercuts so you automatically sign up for dinner & a show when you go here. The staff are all lovely, the salon is kept very clean and tidy, the waiting area is nicely stocked with a range of magazines and you're always offered cold water in a glass. I consulted with my regular Indulge Salon hairdresser shortly before a trip to the UK as my hair grows bizarrely fast in Florida and I wanted to look like a shiny, glossy pony when meeting my family after such an extended absence. My hairdresser, let's call her Mildred, suggested that as my long dark brown Asian'ish hair (thanks for the genes Mum) was already in pretty decent condition, all she recommended was a hair cut to return layers and a High Gloss treatment that basically would act like clear nail polish for hair: sealing cuticles, adding an instant gloss and making everything simply glorious. I obtained a quote for the gloss treatment and haircut combo (a little pricey, but the results were apparently going to be magical) and promptly booked the appointment for a week later. My appointment commenced with Mildred and involved the usual fuzzy-feel-good hand and scalp massage. Mildred opted to do the High Gloss treatment first and save the haircut for the end. However, it turned out that when quoting me for the High Gloss treatment, Mildred had failed to take into account my hair length. It took 3 bowls instead of 1 bowl of the bloody pricey High Gloss treatments to adequately coat my hair. Once the coating was completed and had set, I was then whisked to The Chair for the cut. At that point, it was late in the evening and Mildred was exhausted from both a long day and also having to whisk up multiple bowls of High Gloss treatment and my haircut was over pretty quickly and, although my ends were neater, my layers were nonexistent. I didn't make any noise of complaint as 1) I'm British and we avoid confrontation and 2) I couldn't see what a mentally and physically tired hairdresser was going to be able to do to improve on her already lackluster efforts. I'll be brutally honest, the High Gloss treatment was an absolute bunk. Not only did I get charged a lot more for 3x lots of treatment because Mildred misquoted me, but I could see absolutely no discernible difference between the original condition of my long, straight, dark hair. I do like the Aveda product range and like paying good money for a good standard of service, but I personally feel that the High Gloss treatment is not such a good investment for certain hair colours/types and in future will try to book hair appointments earlier in the day to avoid having a hairdresser on her last legs taking care of me. read more

I previously had a 5 star review, but over the last 6 years the salon has gone downhill under the most recent management. The last year you could cut the tension in the salon with a knife and I saw stylist after stylist leave and their station remained empty. There also seemed to be only one working sink at any given time and the overall appearance of everything was run down. I stayed because my amazing stylist Kara was there. Over the years she expertly created the perfect color for me and would always learn new techniques to perfect her amazing craft. About 4 months ago I recieved a phone call from someone wanted to book my regular appointment with a different stylist saying Kara was no longer a stylist. the strange thing is I heard whispering in the background like someone was telling the lady on the phone what to say. I did a little research and found out Kara is now at the JC penny salon and promptly booked my appointment with her. the first time I went there the atmosphere was amazing. The salon is full of people laughing and enjoying themselves while being pampered. save yourself the heartache and do not go to this salon. head over to JC Penny and have an amazing experience. read more

I was looking to get something different done with my hair after having donated close to 30" of it to Locks of Love about a year ago, and was tired of having the straight flat ironed look. I had gotten my hair styled one night bc I was going out dancing with friends and the stylist at the other salon had given me curls which I really liked and wished I could have kept. So I decided to call the Indulge salon at Dillard's bc I saw that they have a check in offer on Yelp for $20 off $50.00 or more for first time guests. When I called I told the lady on the phone that I wanted a spiral perm, she asked me if I'd ever had a perm before and I told her yes the last time was around 2004ish. She was very polite and asked when I would like to come in, I asked if I could have the next available appt. she checked which date was open, checked to see if that day/time worked with me and told me who would be my stylist. On the day of my appt. I was greeted by Selma or Thelma(can't recall how she pronounced it), she was nice and took me to her station and went over what type of perm I wanted and what size curls I wanted. Then she made me sign a form about what I would be paying(I found it very odd that she was charging me for a long to extra long length hair cut/style, when my hair is medium length at most?!)for and then took me back to wash my hair. After she had the rollers for the perm in and the liquid chemical in, she had me sit under the dryer for a while until the perm set. Then she took me back to the wash area to take out the rollers, rinse out my hair, and add in the last part of the leave in solution. When she took me back to her station I saw my hair and liked it...that is until she started to add products to it and then dry my hair with a diffuser. When she said she was done I looked at my hair and I wanted to cry at the frizzy mess that I was seeing, not to mention that both sides had gone limp! I told her I wasn't happy and she tried to fix it a bit to no avail, she said after the first three days it would look like it was supposed to. So I went to pay and they didn't take off the $20.00 check in offer that I had from Yelp, when I asked if they could refund me $20.00 as I was still standing there they said no, that they would honor it the next time I came in! The three days past and my curls never came back. I had to go in a second time, this time I spoke to the manager Jamie first she said that the rollers weren't left in for enough time on the sides of my hair and that's why the curls went limp so fast. She also said they would redo my perm for free but I would have to sign a waiver stating that if my hair fell out that they wouldn't be liable, I passed on that but the same stylist who did my perm did a conditioning treatment on my hair...and then once again product and the diffuser followed!! I left with frizzy hair again! I had set an appointment to get my hair trimmed on the first visit, but after the second visit I was supposed to receive a call from Jamie to see how my hair was and if I wanted to get the sides re permed, but the only call I got was about the one I had set on my first visit. My hair has never looked this bad and I have to use so much time that I never did before just to get it to look meh now. read more

I had an experience of stylist not leaving color in long enough and wetting my entire back of shirt while rinsing hair. I'd rather go to Veda in Springs for a real Aveda experience. This salon has had a slew of new managers and stylists so quality and stability is not up to Aveda standards IMO. read more

Great experience for curly haired gal! I walked in a bit late for a cut and style and Eriona immediately took me in. She patiently heard me out (my curly woes) and then explained how she is going to do the cut and the style. She was perfect, took care of my concerns and gave me a nice cut and even a last minute blow dry request, even though it was getting close to shutting down time. Very friendly, put me immediately at ease, had a nice time chatting with her, gave me some handy tips and recommendation on how to improve my color!! on the whole a great experience! definitely recommend and am coming back soon! I'm new to the area and can't get to my normal hair dresser due to the distance. This is one of the only salons open on Sunday (my only day off) while the hair dresser didn't give me the color I wanted she covered my roots (for the most part) *poor thing I hadn't had them done in a month and a half* the color isn't what I wanted but I corrected it myself with shimmer lights blonde and silver shampoo. I wouldn't come here if it weren't for the availability and $50 off first visits. Will continue trying to lighten these brassy highlights with my purple shampoo and hope for the best. read more

I needed to get my hair done while visiting Jacksonville from an overseas locations. A friend told me about Aveda so I showed up and made an appt for later that day. I walked around mall and showed up at appointed time and was told that the stylist was running behind. So was offered first thing next morning, so I agreed. Showed up at 10am and they got right to it. Took 4 hours to do kinda what i asked. Payed $300, for the cut and color plus "special shampoo" to keep in from turning a different color. And to top it off, ruined and very nice shirt because he must have dropped color down my back . Not happy with the amount of money I payed for what I got. They left with about 3 different product in my hair that I had to wash it when i got home because it was so stinky. read more

So let me just start by saying this. I have worked with Aveda for about 10 years. As a skin care specialist in salons and in the institutes. I have never in my experience walked into any concept salon or store or education center and been completely ignored the way I just was. I was acknowledged by the two women at the front desk and yet still not assisted. Was not asked if I had any questions, or even if I was there for an appointment. There was no greeting whatsoever. And it was not busy. About 15 minutes later a stylist came around the corner and asked if I needed help, but honestly at that point, i was ready to just leave. I recently moved to Jacksonville from another state and was in desperate need to find someone to work with my overly highlighted hair. My first salon experience at a place located in The Avenues Mall was disappointing. I decided the next month to try Indulge Salon (one reason was that yelp offered a discounted service coupon). I met Vicky and she instantly put me at ease. She made recommendations and she worked to correct my color so that it would be more manageable for me. However, my roots were still not meeting my satisfaction (partly my fault because my many treatments left my hair dramatically lighter than my root color). I decided to try and make it work, but less than a week later I received a call from Vicky. She said she had thought about my hair all week and really wanted me to come in to make sure I was 100% satisfied at no extra cost! What kind of salon and stylist does that? After that visit I was more than satisfied, and felt positive I had found my salon AND stylist for the remainder of the time I'm living in Jacksonville! You have to try this place!! read more

I would NOT recommend this salon to anyone. I had been going there for about 3 years, while I liked my hairdresser, there had been a few mistakes, a bad cut, a bad color....but you know no one is perfect...and I am an Aveda fan. But today was the last straw. They got a new manager, and well she is...well, lets just say not cordial. At all. She does not even speak. Rude is one thing, but to charge me 30 for some eyebrow wax, that I did not even ask for...when I asked what the charge was, I was told this and that and product .....are you kidding? I PAID another 30 for the product I bought.".oh, well, we will give you a complimentary wax next time".145.00 later for very short hair, 1 color....NO THANKS. No, there won't be another next time. I had an 11:30 hair appointment. First time there. Their nail tech isn't in today they said when I asked for a mani pedi too on the phone. I arrived early because I don't like making working people wait for me. I should not have worried. The place was empty. Customer bays looked like they had never been used. The receptionist left me there alone saying she needed to go to the office. I could hear two people laughing and talking somewhere in the back. At 11:25 they both came out from the back and the lady's hair had just been washed. The stylist begins to dry her hair all the while chatting away. She barely acknowledges me. She actually seems surprised to see me. She clearly isn't going to be ready for me until sometime after noon. I have left other stylists because of the same thing. If they don't respect my time, I'm out of there. The receptionist never came back. I got up and asked the stylist if she was Adrianna. She said yes. I said, please cancel my appointment. I'm leaving. Astonished look. It was now closing in on 11:45. No wonder nobody else was in there. Who are they kidding? Adrianna is the only stylist. There IS no nail tech, obviously. There were only about 10 nail colors and one of them was PURPLE! Disappointing. I'm sure I can find someone else. read more
