We didn't stay at the inn but we went for the live music and what a treat! Glori Wilder and the Moonflowers were playing and they were amazing. The crowd was chatty at first but eventually realized what a show they were missing and all eyes were on Glori and her band. Cocktails are very creative and delicious but quite pricey. The food was tasty- the menu is limited - maybe only 6-7 options. We laughed at the Mini Chicken Schnitzels as a name that you would only find in the Berkshires to describe chicken nuggets. Im sure they were delcious but we went for a cheeseburger and the salmon carpaccio. My husband said that the burger was the best he has had for a long time. Just perfection! The salmon was great too- very finely sliced raw fish with a delicious sauce. I also got a salad which could have been half the size but it was really yummy with parmesan crisps. read more

The pros: The location and scenery are wonderful. The interior is cozy and welcoming and the restaurant layout is cool - like being on a ship. The rooms are somewhat charming - a bit dated with older fixtures - but cute. If you are going to Kripalu and don't want to stay on campus, it's a nice alternative. The cons: We have been staying at inns and B&B's for many decades. When a place advertises "breakfast included" it typically means choices for a full breakfast. This really needs to read "continental breakfast included." The homemade muffins were very good, granola and greek yogurt also good (though would have preferred a choice of yogurts as I prefer vegan), some fresh fruit, slices of bread and a bowl of hard boiled eggs was all nice but not what I would call "breakfast included." Also, we noticed immediately that the room we had did not fit the description given to us of our room when we booked. We were told it had a mountain view which it did not. Upon asking about this, the gentleman at the desk kindly acknowledged that in his email communication he had inadvertently mixed up the room descriptions. This was not an issue and the room we had was fine but it would have been nice to have received some token of recognition for this miscommunication. read more

Loved our stay at the Apple Tree Inn. We were greeted by Abby at the front desk upon our arrival. She was extremely welcoming and answered all our questions. We loved the charm of the inn. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. We enjoyed sitting by the fire in the lobby. It was very cozy and relaxing. It is a beautiful location. Fabulous place to stay with the classic charm of an old cottage. But this review is not about the Inn (which is fabulous) this is regarding their food. Tucker away in the back corner of the first floor is a restaurant and bar area where live music entertains you Wednesday through Saturday evening. Friday evening there was a boyfriend and girlfriend act playing guitar and accordion. Nice voices. Very engaging. Had a "vaudeville" feel to them. For dinner I got the salmon. It was served pretty quick, so I got it nice and warm. The salmon was flaky and not fishy smelling. It was a respectable size piece of fish. When they served it, they poured a savory juice around the base adding an extra bonus to the meal. Most importantly it tasted wonderful. read more

We just stayed at this Inn. Do NOT stay here. My husband and I have a young toddler who does not sleep and were given one golden opportunity to get away for a night. We chose Apple Tree Inn. It was a terrible mistake. Unbeknownst to us, we were put in a room above their VERY LOUD tavern, that plays live music and allows patrons to stay on, loudly, after closing. We had to reach out to the owner to remind her that guests were staying above the tavern and were trying to sleep. Then we were woken up again early Sunday morning with what seemed to be a drum sound check but in any event was loud music. They should notify their guests that this particular room (Bristed) is above the tavern and no one should expect any sleep when they stay there. We paid nearly $400 for the privilege of getting not much more sleep than we would have gotten at home. Note that we explained this at check out and we reached out to the Inn after in the hopes they'd try to make it right. Their response was that they were sorry and they hoped we'd come back and give them another chance. No, we will not come back. Why would be come spend more money here in the hope that this next time we won't be kept up late and woken up early? It makes no sense. Stay away from this place. read more

We had a fabulous time staying here! Totally agree with the previous reviewer about the food -- I had a salmon carpaccio that was absolutely excellent, and the schnitzel that my wife had was beautifully prepared and tasty. The continental breakfast is more generous than most, with lots of fresh fruit, local breads, house-made granola and pastries, and fantastic local coffee. The main house is gorgeous, and the views are second to none. Tanglewood is essentially across the street, and Claire and Toph (the owners) are planning on a shuttle service to the main gate. Being in Lenox, it's right in the middle of all the beauty of the Berkshires. Everything about our stay was wonderful, and we can't wait to come back! read more

My friends and I had an amazing stay at the Apple Tree Inn and will definitely be going back. I was relaxed from the moment I walked into the lobby, poured myself a cup of coffee, and sat down on the porch to gaze out at the spectacular view of red- and orange-specked hills. I was greeted warmly by the staff, the owner Claire and her husband Toph, and by Max the dog. On our first evening, we went across the street for a walk through the grounds of Kripalu and watched a beautiful sunset on the edge of the Stockbridge Bowl (which is a lake, or for the few and proud with an interest in Massachusetts waterways regulation, a great pond). When we returned to the inn, there was a dancing class underway in the Round Room and a few guests were chatting by the fireplace. It felt like walking into a lively home. For dinner we went the Ostrich Room, the inn's cozy restaurant and bar, which has a timeless New England charm and was buzzing with Friday night energy. We got some great cocktails, including one (The Tailor) that was an invention of the bartender, who explained its origin story to us. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and salad, which was delicious. I also tried my friend's polenta, and even though I really liked my own meal, the polenta was so good that it gave me a pretty severe case of entrée envy. We were enjoying the Ostrich Room's ambiance so much that we stuck around until closing. It's nice to stay somewhere where the on-site restaurant is not only the most convenient option, but also one of the best places around to get dinner and a drink. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we got a good night's sleep. In the morning, we had breakfast downstairs in the Round Room, enjoying the panoramic view and local coffee, fresh muffins, and cheese burekas (which we had never heard of before but couldn't stop eating). After breakfast we explored nearby West Stockbridge, went for a lovely hike on the Alford Springs Father Loop (4.3 miles but not too strenuous), and had a great lunch at No Comply Foods in Great Barrington. Then we visited an old footbridge and headed to High Lawn Farm in Lee to pat some baby cows and get ice cream. That evening we went to Pizzeria Boema in Lenox, a really good spot that was just a few minutes away, and then returned home to the inn and fell into a night of conversation around the fire pit with a gregarious group of young women and an instructor from Kripalu, all of whom had come to take in the scene at the Ostrich Room. Before bed, we went up to the road to Olivia's Overlook to take in the stars. On Sunday we walked from the inn to the Parsons Marsh Reserve and a nearby horse farm, went for a dip in the inn's pool (the nicest view I've ever had for a swim), and grabbed some cider doughnuts at an orchard up the road. When it was time to leave, we all had a hard time tearing ourselves away from inn's beauty and the relaxing, homey atmosphere. The good news is that there's so much more to do and see in the area, so we'll be back! read more

Such a charming and cozy inn! We just wrapped up a three-night stay at the Apple Tree Inn and had a great trip. The new owner took over recently and you can tell how much care has already been put into the place. A simple highlight: breakfast on the porch overlooking a wonderful view. It was hot so we enjoyed the pool, but I want to come back in the winter to read by the fireplaces. The bar is a pretty exceptional spot, too. read more

This place is amazing. We stopped in for a drink and to enjoy some live music (Johnny Irion). All the drinks were perfectly crafted and poured; standouts were the Spicy Margarita* and La vie en Rose* The room itself is the epitome of a smokey, sexy, candle-lit bar. Perfect date night spot. Lots of space and options for seating. Great air circulation throughout the entire place, not stuffy or cluttered at all. The entire atmosphere is incredibly comfortable and chic. If you're planning a trip to the Berkshires, the Apple Tree Inn is the ONE place you should stay. It's a beautiful inn on top of a hill, just across from Kripalu. It's the exact opposite of a cookie-cutter corporate hotel. There are antiques. fireplaces, nooks and crannies, and spectacular views everywhere. It is bright, fresh and comfortable, and the owner, Claire, is warm and welcoming. I feel like she's my new best friend. Our charming room on the second floor had a bed that was so comfortable that it was difficult to get up every morning. When I did, I looked out my window to the morning clouds over the green mountains. The Berkshires feels like they're untouched by civilization. Breakfast was in the rotunda...and started with a happy "good morning" from Claire. We ate warm muffins and croissants, fresh fruit, and sipped strong coffee. For us, this was an anniversary weekend that reminded us how much we love each other. That's the magic of the Apple Tree Inn. read more

The location of the inn is great, and the main building has a classic manor house style to it. However, our room in the side building could have been located at a Best Western. Small, no interesting features, and not very clean. A little "down-in-the-dumps." In the foyer of the main house, the drinks were quite expensive, and in among the apples in a bowl on the table were a few cherry pits left over from some previous guest. The music that evening in the bar was really fun though. I'd say come to the inn for the music but don't stay there. read more

Had a wonderful evening at the Ostrich Room last night. Warm, cozy living room atmosphere with a roaring fire. All of the patrons are treated as friends, and Glen provided us attentive service on a first name basis. We had the tuna appetizer which was delicious alongside our well prepared cocktails. Burgers were also very tasty. Jake Hunsinger provided live music, strumming guitar and crooning with his wonderful bass voice. The bartender gave us a warm farewell when we left. We were looking for a place to stay near Tanglewood that had a restaurant since it was our first trip there. Found this Inn and booked a room, costing over $500 for one night. The night of the performance the restaurant was closed, the room did not have tv, refrigerator, or microwave. The walk was down a steep hill, not good for walking. Breakfast was very small with not a lot of selections, equivalent to any chain motel. Room was adequate, nothing special. Suggest staying elsewhere. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Apple Tree Inn this past weekend and we were pleasantly surprised by the room (king bed, window seat, soaker tub, wood fireplace!) but even more so by the lovely greeting we had from Laura (the Inn manager on-site that day). She told us about the Inn and gently convinced us to rearrange our plans to instead have lunch in town, take a walk at the Mount (Edith Wharton's home, NightWood art installation), and come back for an evening of amazing food and cocktails in the Ostrich Room where local musicians (Johnny Irion and Friends) would be performing. We are glad we did change our plans, because after a glorious time holiday shopping in Lenox and a beautiful walk through NightWood, we had a wonderful evening in the dining room/bar at the Inn. The atmosphere in the Ostrich Room was of a community get together, with candles all around, and people settled at the bar, as well as along a central table, and on couches and small tables nestled into nooks. The fireplace was cozy. The clam chowder was perfect (not too thick, very buttery), the halibut was flaky and cooked to perfection, served on a white bean puree with brussels sprout salad, and Antonio's cocktails were amazing, especially the espresso martini for dessert! After an evening of incredible music, we headed up to our room for a relaxing soak and a romantic fire by the bed. We look forward to our return next Summer, and to gifting a stay to loved ones in need of a romantic getaway. read more

What a terrible experience! My room was in the "Lodge" which is a fancy name for a hovel. Filthy carpet, chipped paint everywhere, a window that backed onto a gravel path in the woods at ground level which was completely unsafe, difficult path to get to said Lodge from the main Inn ( stairs, gravel, and no path lights that I could see -- try rolling a bag on that!), and a dank musty smell. Dingy dirty bathroom. I literally left the property 15 minutes after I got there and drove home. No offer from staff to change the room or offer any accommodation -- just a sneering "you're still getting charged even if you leave!" Definitely not worth the $280 per night -- you couldn't pay me to stay there! read more

Stayed two nights in early Oct. 2021 and had dinner one night. Rooms were ok, although shlepping up suitcases 2 or 3 floors was a pain (no elevator). Food in restaurant was just ok and woefully overpriced. Breakfast was very simple and minimally satisfactory for a continental breakfast. Big issue: my room on the second floor was near to the outdoor firepit adjoining the bar and restaurant. I tried to get to sleep but the noise of the drinkers till 1 PM around the firepit made sleep impossible even with closed window and ear plugs. I called their equivalent of the receptionist, and told the woman on the other end about the noise and asked her to do something to quiet the noise. Her only response was "Sorry, but the bar is open until 1 PM. This was the first and LAST stay in the Apple Tree Inn. read more

Absolutely gorgeous, quaint place. We had a wonderful time, the location is so perfect, literally across from Tanglewood and just 3-5 min drive from downtown Lenox. The staff is so kind and warm, they upgraded us to a nice beautiful room and made our stay so comfortable and feel like home. The main house is very charming, and our room was extremely nice and clean, with a glorious working fireplace. The breakfast is delicious. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back in summer. read more

Multiple things to review. Here for a fall foliage weekend. Lovely setting. View from pool is spectacular. Room in the 'Lodge' was small with little to no decor. Main building was nice and bar was very quaint and inviting. Service not very attentive as our drinks sat at the bar for a good 10 minutes. Dinner was disappointing. Limited wine selection by the bottle. Menu limited. Charcuterie board was a confusing mix of Italian meats and non Italian cheeses. A mix of nuts straight from a Planter's can. My braised short rib was sans any sauce and not well seasoned. Mashed were whipped and possibly instant with absolutely no seasoning as was the underdone broccolini. Server was sweet but those helping were dressed for I don't know what, yet helpful. Please don't stand over my table with your shirt unbuttoned. Bizarre parachute type of ceiling was, well bizarre. Very close to Tanglewood though. read more

I really wanted to like this place. Check in was smooth, the staff was helpful, and the lobby and common areas were nicely appointed and renovated. Unfortunately the rooms were terrible. Our first room had extensive water damage in the bathroom and had tiles literally peeling off the tub wall. It also smelled really musty and full of mildew. We asked if there was anything else available and we were shown a room in the main house. Also very disappointing. Squeaky bed, old rattling air conditioner, threadbare carpets, rust around the sink fixtures in the bathroom, old peeling non-slip decals in the tub. It wasn't dirty, but it was in need of a major renovation. Ultimately it was bad enough that my girlfriend and I decided not to stay and we drove two and a half hours back to Boston. We requested a refund because we felt the room was not up to standards, but the hotel refused to accommodate us citing their cancellation policy. Shocking frankly. Now the good. The grounds are really nice, the common areas are well designed. and it is close to tanglewood. If you don't care at all about the room then it's probably an okay choice. read more

He is so creative and innovative. Some of the best cocktails I have ever had!! Going to be a favorite this summer of mine...if I can get in for reservations. I cannot imagine why anyone would give a bad review to the Apple Tree Inn, former home of (one of the) Alice's restaurant. This beautiful Inn is located across the street from Tanglewood (so close you could sit outside your room and hear music), and just minutes away from historic Lenox, Great Barrington, and Stockbridge and the rest of the beauty of the Berkshires. I LOVED this Inn. There are a number of rooms in the main Inn, all with different elements that make each of them beautiful and unique. One has a balcony overlooking the mountains and a lake, Another has a sitting area with a window seat. All are beautiful, and comfortable and are spaced out to give just the right amount of distance between them so that you get the feeling of a bed and breakfast without sacrificing privacy and quiet. The owners and staff were perfect hosts, and there was always ice and coffee and tea available. The included breakfast is a little lackluster, but we used it more as a pre-breakfast and enjoyed taking our coffee or tea and juice out to the picturesque covered porch to enjoy the view and the breeze. The grounds are spectacular and well maintained, and while i normally dont make use of hotel swimming pools, how can you resist swimming on a mountain with breathtaking views? I honestly felt like I was getting away to my own private summer home, and enjoyed the touches like the stocked bookshelves and board games, so much. Most of all I enjoyed the chance to be someplace beautiful and relaxing. HIGHLY recommend. read more

Was very disappointed with this place. Desperate need of a makeover and don't bother with breakfast. Stay was slightly off season in late Sept. room was 2/3 star but clean. I think this place probably deserves four stars, but we're staying in the overflow building, and it's a nightmare of clashing florals and a motel feel. Also it's pouring rain, which makes me grumpy but is not their fault. The main building is lovely and the service is incredibly thoughtful, though. The woman who set up the reservation (Carol) was super helpful and friendly. The room was just average and had a bit of an ant problem. Granted we wanted to be in the woods and wanted to save some money so you get what you pay for. The main house is very charming but the second building is very institutional looking/feeling. I'd stay again if we were trying to save money but would stay elsewhere if we wanted a more luxurious/charming stay. read more
