The Auxililiary Power owner is not someone to trust. We unfortunately found this out after it was too late. We bought his boat and discovered that the engine and generator hour meters had been disconnected. Then we did some digging and discovered an older listing for the boat with more hours on the engines than he advertised it as, and older as well. The worst part was the leaks that were not disclaimed. He painted over all the water damage and we discovered immediately after getting into bigger water and rain that the boat needed very expensive repairs. This was by far the worst purchase and financial decision of our lives. The fact that he has a business is shocking. Howard Hawk is super sketchy and if things go sideways assume he'll do whatever he can to make sure that he doesn't pay for it. Find a mechanic you can trust, there are plenty in Ballard. read more

More than that, they actually care about the clients, and getting you repaired and back on the water. I recently took my sailboat to Seaview Marine and worked with Tiel & Frank of Seaview Marine & Charlie Harris of Auxiliary Engine to have the Yanmar engine & Saildrive removed from the boat. Charlie & his team 100% lived up to my expectations in removing the engine, saildrive and controls. Charlie also stored the engine & saildrive at his shop and sold them for me. No muss, no fuss. Tiel &Frank performed an outstanding repair repairing the large hole in the hull from the saildrive and holes in the cockpit for the engine & saildrive controls. Since this is primarily a racing sailboat I wanted the bottom to be extremely smooth & fair where the large saildrive hole was located. Tiel, Frank & their team 100% did exactly what I expected and totally exceeded my all of my expectations. I reached out to Howard, and left a message on the machine ( he must have been out helping a client. :) I received a timely call back answering the questions I had and he was very accommodating and helpful:) As the job progressed Auxiliary Engine, Howard and all the crew. Made our job a pleasure to do. For that reason I would give them 6 stars if possible. PS. The Engine replacement appears to have went well too. I would give these guys six stars if I could. They are extremely knowledgeable marine diesel mechanics and know how to get things fixed right. And they are very responsive (even though very busy) and honest. I recommend them without reservation. Beware of this business!! Not worthy of 1 star IMO. Spoke to the owner Howard 2 weeks ago about a job for my Kohler 5Kw generator, explained what I thought the issue was and he said sounds like it could be a quick fix and that he was two weeks out. Explained I understood it being boating season and more people wanting to get out and practice "social distancing". So 2 weeks pass and I haven't hear a peep from them, so I send them a friendly email asking if I'm moving up on the list or they've lost me in the shuffle. Not 5 minutes later I get a response saying, oh hey were were just about to contact you, we've decided we aren't going to work on Kohler gas generators any more sorry. Had I not sent them an email I'd still be sitting around waiting to hear from them. I then call the owner, Howard, and spoke to him asking him what and his response was they are just really backed up with no light in sight. When I questioned why he told me he was two weeks out and it would be an easy fix his response was he was on vacation and didn't know what the work load was going to be when he got back. Complete BS, you own a business whether on vacation or not you know what's going on in your business. They could have had common courtesy and reached out and said hey we are really backed logged and need to push your job back or anything before I made the contact. I am happy for those folks they have helped and who knows they may have been able to help me, but if this is how they treat potential new customers then folks beware or empty promises. I will not do business with them and I am making sure folks are aware of this. read more

Found Auxiliary Engine from word of mouth at my yacht club. Called Doug Scott there and he came out and went through my Yanmar engines and Northern lights generator. He found a couple of items that needed attention. I would never have found them on my own. He had me buy the part from the internet as it was cheaper than he could get it for. You cant help but be impressed. Would not hesitate to recommend them to you. read more

We used Auxiliary Engine to find parts for our almost obscure Yanmar diesel (1980s vintage). Charlie and the crew found the parts and had them to me quickly and amazingly easily (Charlie took it upon himself to deliver them personally to our home on his way home from work. Great service! Easy to talk with and good communication skills. Will use them in the future for any marine engine needs we may (no doubt will) have. read more

This place has been recommended to me by sailors I trust. My one encounter with them was super-helpful. The raw water pump on my engine (a Johnson brand pump) has been discontinued and I was trying to figure out how to get it rebuilt, and how many spares to buy to keep it alive. I stopped by their tiny little office (a shipping container) and managed to catch someone (not Mark: I forget the name) at he was about to leave. He stuck around for 15 minutes patiently answering my questions. He knew Johnson pumps inside and out--had part numbers memorized, told me that the stainless shafts they used are not the greatest, so they'll only last 5-6 years, etc. And he told me to go to a full machine shop to get it done properly and recommended a place (Hill Machine Headworks). Mark was super helpful. My wife and I were headed out for a 5 day sailing trip over Labor Day when we discovered an engine oil leak. I called Mark at the suggestion of one of the marine shops at 5pm on Friday and got no answer. We were headed back to the marina planning to cancel the trip when Mark called back. I have a very old engine with hard to find parts. When I explained what I needed, he told me that I could go to the earest NAPA and get a standard part that would work fine.
