I'm not sure what happened. James, whom I think was an estimator, made an appointment, showed up on time, looked at the job, and said they would send a quote right away. They never did. UPDATE: James just called and doesn't know what happened either. We exchanged test emails and I received his right away--with a very competitive quote. I've contracted with another company already. It's too bad. I'll upgrade the stars to five for professionalism. read more

BEWARE and get any estimates IN WRITING if you choose to work with Sunset Electric. I needed to have a hot tub hooked up. No complicated wiring needed, all along exposed areas on the outside of the house, through a shop with an exposed ceiling, and up into the panel. I was given a verbal estimate of $1200 - $1600 for the work, which is in line with everything I have read and heard from friends who are contractors. Imagine my surprise when I received a bill for $3600 after the work was done. I never received a call warning me that it was taking longer than expected, and somehow they claimed it took 2 guys 7 hours (14 total charged hours) to do the work. When I complained, they reduced the invoice by $900, but it was still more than $1,000 higher than the high end of the verbal estimate I was given. I'm not a fan. read more

If I could give them 6 stars I would. Called them on Monday morning and they said they were weeks out. Got a call back later and they said they may be able to get out today but more than likely on Wednesday. Another call later from the two electricians who said they were on their way. They were fast, efficient and knew what they were doing and what needed to be done. They said that the job had to be done right the first time with no shortcuts and I could not agree more. GFCIs were installed where they should have been years ago, the GFCI tripping issue solved and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the great work guys! read more

Nothing but positive experiences. Initially, I called and left a voicemail. They called the following day explaining they were busier than normal and that I would receive a call the next day from the super. They just didn't want me to feel ignored. Cool. The next day, Gavin called and we came up with the plan for upgrades (increased outlets and lines in the garage, generator hook up, and replaced outlets inside). The work was way under the competitor's quote and was accomplished in a few hours. When we had issue with the first experience of hooking up the generator during an outage, I emailed the company and received a response that solved the problem over the phone within an hour. All I had to do was throw a switch on the generator - my bad. This company is terrific. read more

These guys were so helpful. We needed our furnace reconnected when we bought our house. Of course we moved in during Winter. It was holiday time and everyone was booked up for weeks. They have not followed up on an unfinished project. Multiple requests, non responsive..will put me on the calendar...now failed emails. Also, never gave me an answer on questions I have asked on dusk sensored lights. Most work ok, but frustrated with unaccountable people that were paid for services. My projects have now been satisfactorily completed. I will change my rating from a 2 to a 4. Gavin was quick to respond when he realized the ball had been dropped. It all began when I reached my limit in stringing out extension cords throughout the house whenever we lose power. I want a system to run power directly into my panel from a generator. I contacted 3 different businesses. Sunset Electric responded back promptly and Gavin set up a time to come see what I wanted done. He was early to the appointment, very professional and quickly understood what I was thinking. As a side, I had replaced a GFCI in the kitchen (being very careful to match wires to the same locations) and it failed to work. He said that the industry had reversed the in and out locations on newer GFCIs. Just swap top and bottoms.......success!! So today, the team showed up. EARLY! I like that. At first it was Jason and Dustin. They quickly assessed the project and started to build an efficient plan. Then Hayden arrived with some additional materials. These three men were great. Upbeat, professional, courteous, and experts in their trade. They answered every question I had. They installed things exactly as I planned and then completely cleaned up after themselves. These men are how you want contractors to be....it was great having them upgrade my home's electrical system. Sunset Electric NW came out to inspect a problem with an electric circuit that only works intermittently. The technician tightened some screws on the electric panel and the switches and outlet worked for awhile, but quit after a week or so. While the tech was here, he found that the main cut-off was not working. He took down the information to order the replacement module. I told him I would contact him when we were ready to install the panel. On 9/18/23 I called and stated that we still had a problem and asked them to order the replacement parts. I called 9/22/23 and got no response. On 10/30/23 I spoke with James and he said he'd immediately follow up on the order and get with me that day. He never called me back. I've made two more follow up calls to James on 11/6 and 11/16 and still no response. On 9/1/23 we paid Sunset Electric $273.00 for the initial visit and still have a circuit that does not work and a faulty main cut-off in our electric panel. read more

Sunset Electric is a good company, they do great work, their guys seem to be happy who are employees and they do what they say they are going to do when they say they're going to do it. However with that said these guys don't give any sort of breaks on rates and they won't do something for you that isn't permitted (if required) or not up to code. read more

It is a quiet Tuesday morning when the refrigerator suddenly stopped working. No lights came on when we opened the door. So with my limited electrical skills we plugged the refer into an outlet in the hallway and it came back on. Now to figure out what happened. In checking the electrical box it seemed like all the breakers were on. So knowing my limits I called Sunset Electric at 360-930-6954 and explained the problem. They said that they could reroute someone in Poulsbo and he could be out in less than 30 minutes. James arrived promptly and discovered that the breakers were not labeled correctly and got the power reset. He went on to explain how the kitchen was wired and asked if we had any other issues. We really appreciated how he solved a mystery on why the vacuum would trip the breaker when used upstairs and answered a couple of other questions. Sunset Electric was faster than a speeding train in getting here. James was outstanding. If you don't know who to call when something electrical is a problem, call them. They are outstanding. We have used Sunset Electric for pretty much all our electrical needs since 2012. We used one other vendor and they did great work for us as well. However, I will say the majority of our electrical work (98% of our jobs) we have returned to Gavin's team time and time again. They have done so much work for us over the years in 2 separate homes. Installing new light fixtures inside and out, putting garage electrical behind walls, installing and hanging chandeliers, new electrical, other upgrades and most recently a stand by generator. His teams are always on time, professional, respectful and I feel they ALWAYS go above and beyond. Some of his crew worked on our former home in 2012 and were back to work in our new home as late as this year. We love that we recognize their staff and they're not just experienced but they all share the same customer focus. Gavin and his entire crew (all of them) are FANTASTIC! Gavin responds quickly, he gets his team on jobs and provides estimates and appointments promptly. When we lost power and had an issue with our generator, I emailed him before office hours thinking he'll get it when he's. He called me within 15 minutes at most and got his team to my house to assist with our generator and within an hour it was up and running again. He then called to follow up shortly after. He is always very responsive and helpful via email or phone. I can not say enough good about Sunset Electric and obviously with their level of service and skill we are loyal customers for life. I had family in the trades but most are retired and out of state. They're all good guys, honest, reliable, do the right thing, always making the customer feel valued and it's great to know that is how Gavin and his crew are. Sunset came out to fix a few minor problems and install some new lighting. Every step of the way they were a pleasure to work with. I left a message to schedule the work and received a call back the very next day. On the day the work was scheduled, the electricians arrived on time and patiently listened to my concerns and questions. They explained what the issues were and resolved them within an hour. NO SHOW! We needed a couple electrical issues fixed that came up on an inspection. We live out of the state, so we had to set up a time for one of our family members to be at the house to let them in. After two hours of waiting for them to show up, I called Gavin and he told me that his electrician got busy at another work site and just forgot about our appointment. The only thing they offered was an apology and to schedule for a different day. Thanks for wasting our time. I realize we weren't a big job for them, but if this is how they treat their new customers, I would look elsewhere. Please do not give them you business. They are out to nickel and dime you and charged me $100.00 an hour even though the owner Rick was only here for 9 min. All they cared about was billing. As well as not completing the job. This is so wrong in a small community. read more

I have used Sunset Electric since I moved to Kitsap, over 16 years ago and have only had one problem with one electrician. As I am not a "handy" type person, I am really not sure if the issue was my lack of communication as to what I wanted done or his seemingly altered state! We called for non-working outlets. They had to come back two more times after the first service date to fix the same outlets because the outlets kept failing. These were all within 3-week period, and every time, they charged us a full service fees saying different problems were causing the outlets to fail. I seriously question the abilities and qualities of their technicians. They should have checked thoroughly when they came for the first time. They don't guarantee their service??? They had to come three times! For non-working outlets, it costed us over $500!! We are very unhappy with this company. read more

WOW... I have never been so impressed as I was today with the service from Sunset Electric in Poulsbo! My Mom's propane fireplace is not working (being repaired next week) and she has been using her electric furnace but she lost her power last night due to the storm. She has a generator that kicks on automatically when the power goes out, but last night it would only come on for a few minutes then turn off. We made several calls this morning to electricians in the area and Sunset was the only one willing to go out today. In fact they made two trips out to Hansville, and as of this evening, her generator is working again! Rich went above and beyond was was expected and I can't thank him enough for working to get the problem resolved. Mom is still without power, but the generator is working like a dream.
