Someone stole my catalytic converter. I took it in because I thought Jon still owned it. This guy charged me $4000 and the next year when I went to go have a smoked it was the wrong one. And he charged me another four grand to fix his mistake. I have all the check stubs and all the receipts to prove it. I just didn't pursue it because I have not been physically well and just said I'll take the loss. Do not trust these people. read more

My Car had Break Problems and my Caliper was split. This shop is wonderful, The prices are reasonable and the workers are very reliable and quick worker. Brian and Peter are great guys and very helpful. I've taken many of my vehicles to the shop and do recommend the service they provide here. However, found out the hard way today they don't offer a free retest if you fail a smog, they do however offer half-price off your next test if you fail. Not too happy about that but I should have asked first, overall Great people that do quality work. read more

Spent over $1800 on 3 different occasions for overheating problems, had a squeaking noise they fixed, 2 days later noise was back. Finding a trustworthy mechanic is hard to do, and I got really lucky when my car died right near Auto World a few years ago. I walked in to the shop and I told them my car was DOA, a few guys pushed into the lot and the mechanic came out and took a look at it, wiggled something, and my car started. While I was in the tiny little waiting area I asked a guy (waiting for his really nice car) if he trusted this place. He said he won't take his car any where else, he's been going there since '97. Before I had ever gone to AW my car needed two new ball joints (I had it looked at by a friend a few months before, it was getting really noisy), the mechanic mentioned it and said that I should get it done soon. I had already shopped around but was procrastinating on getting it done, but AW gave me the cheapest price. I went home and talked to my husband about it and we decided to get the worst of the two done. It's been two years and the car is running really well. We've since had a few other things done, Pep Boys on McHenry gave me an estimate for a major tune-up for nearly $400, Auto World did it for $250. They're never pushy, they've always been honest, and I won't go anywhere else. read more

Well it has been almost a year and those crooks at Auto world kept my money, haven't returned a single call, and never completed the work on my truck. Peter definitely wanted to complete it because giving a refund appears to be a fate worse than death but after the way they treated me I wouldn't take my car there if they paid me. Just thinking about going into that place give me an anxiety attack that was the worst display professionalism and common courtesy I've ever seen. Treating me like I'm two years old pointing his finger at me as he glared and his voice shaking as if I caused his staff to be careless. Time to report these clowns and small claims court is calling me. read more

I'm very disappointed with this auto repair shop. After three attempts to correct the A/C, the clutch seized up three times, I finally realized that it was too complicated for this shop and decided to pay a reputable auto repair shop to do the work correctly, eventually costing me thousands of dollars between the two shops, but it was worth it because I have not had a single problem since the second auto repair shop replaced the A/C by manufacture's specifications. Even under their so-called warranty, they refused to refund my invoice cost to remedy a bad experience when I asked for it in writing, instead they had their lawyer write me a certified letter to intimidate and threaten me. And by the way, Yelpers don't ever forget that we all have Consumer Bill of Rights; and we all have The First Amendment rights to express one's ideas and opinions freely through speech, writing, and other forms of communication. That's why there is Yelp.com and I have had good experiences with Yelp recommendations. My only regret is that I should have done a little research, paid a little bit more money, and made sure my car was worked on by certified mechanics. If I could give zero stars I would. This place used to be amazing! I wouldn't take my car anywhere else.. but now it's under new ownership. The owner is shady and doesn't do the work he's charging for. The work I was told needed to be done was a big fix, I was told 2-3 days.. He kept my car for nearly a week, and when I finally got it back it was running horribly, leaking fluids, and kept wanting to die on me. I took it back and he had it for another 2 days.. He also had NO PAPERWORK on what he had done to my vehicle which is a major red flag to me. Please please avoid this place. I am now having to buy a new vehicle because my current is no longer reliable after taking it to Auto World. I paid over $1200 for my car to be ruined. read more

Sad state of affair. A few years ago we as a family, used this shop for all of our repairs for our foreign cars. Recently we had occasion to use the shop again only to find out our main point of contact had retired. We asked about repairs and was quoted $535 for what seemed a small part. Using my phone I found the parts online for $127 on my first search and no effort. Auto World insisted the part was dealer only and would cost us $535. We chose to wait, when I got home I found the OEM part listed from dealer parts website, the parts were listed at the $535 but most sites offered a discount of up to 40% and the OEM part was at most $325. After market part was less than $150, I've purchased that part and have had it installed by another shop. Regrettably I will be in search of a reliable shop that won't gouge me for parts. Again, sad state of affairs. I strongly suggest you find another shop as well. read more

If you want your time and money wasted, by all means come here. I came in for a smog and was told it would be at least an hour wait. When I said I wasn't sure if that would work, Peter whispered to me that he would do it right away. 2.5 hours later...he comes in and tells me the vehicle failed. Says it was a visual fail because of my gas cap and my aftermarket intake. Says I will need to take it to referee to have the intake approved....wrong! the intake is CARB approved and he admitted to seeing the sticker. The CARB approval and reference number's purpose is to eliminate the need for the referee approval. How is this honest work? He could have saved me time and money by telling me these issues up front without even performing the emissions test(which it passed) and charging me $40. I could have went down the street, got a new gas cap for $11 and been back in 5 minutes. Then it should have passed no problem, since again, the intake is California approved, designed for my vehicle, and fully legal. By this time I am starting to get frustrated and the owner gets involved. He starts being condescending and tells me I did something I shouldn't have and am paying for it now... but since I am arguing with him, he will let me retest for free. The problem is, I won't let them touch any of my vehicles again after how they treated this situation. Also, I witnessed the owner being rude to at least 2 other customers while I waited. read more

I always bring my car here. In my experience the work gets done fast, right and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I will never take my car or recomend it to my friends again. I just learned John is no longer there, took my 04 mustang back they helicoiled a plug told me no longer could fix it, needed new head 2200.00. I towed it to another shop only to find out they disconnected other wires to differnt cylinders they weren't working on. The other mechanic fixed it 490.00 with a coil and a sensor, be careful get other estimates read more

Good job in my gmc safari now it pass smog there not cheap but affordable and they work fast.

I can only comment on the service I received. Came in thinking I needed a new Oil Pump, and was told if so - it would cost a minimum of $600. After they evaluated my truck, turns out it only needed an Oil Sending Unit. Total price was $110. They could have easily replaced my oil pump and I wouldn't have any idea. But they were honest and I appreciate that. Will definitely return if I need any additional service. read more

This business has no ethics when it comes to dealing with customers. They broke a part, never said anything to us until it was brought to their attention and stated they would order and install the new part at no charge. I called 3 times in one week to get an update, but never received a call back. Now after 2 weeks they say they will order the part and install it as long as we pay for the part. They refuse to take any responsibility for the original issue and now act like they are doing us a favor to fix the problem THEY ceated. Very bad business practice. read more

I am so happy to have found Auto World Auto Service! My son had a vehicle smogged here when other shops could not figure out the problem. My 89 Toyota Camry died on Mariposa Rd. I had it towed to Auto World, thinking it was a lost cause.....I was afraid the timing belt was gone. Prayers were answered when John called and the problem had been fixed for a VERY reasonable price. As a woman, I felt that I was treated with honesty, integrity and reliability.
