There's people saying that they think people are making up the bad reviews about the over price and scamming but it's true!! I took my car there and not only were they charging me over price they said I needed to fix my air shocks. Which I knew it had just been replaced recently?! So I left and told them I'll be back. (Never did)I took my car to another shop they looked at it and confirmed my suspension was like new! And charged me half there price for what did needed to be done. I was disappointed in them. I even wrote them a email about this dishonesty. I have both paper works from both shops with 1 date difference stating quotes and the email I wrote them. I wouldn't recommend them at all!! These guys are horrible! They say they are a smog check shop, but not exactly! They Can Not do all smog checks! They are also extremely over priced! Took my car to get a diagnostic check and they advised us that my car had a power hose leak and would cost me $3K; my husband did a diagnostic before going and the reader said it needed a catalytic convertor. When the receptionist called to tell us the price and what was wrong with it he let her know that he did a diagnostic and needed a catalytic convertor not a hose and we already got a quote from somewhere for $1600. She called back a little while later and advised she had the wrong parts on our order and gave the wrong price and its actually $1600. My husband called me and I told him to just go pick up my car as these people are shady, making up things that aren't even wrong on my car. When my husband went to go pick up my key and pay the diagnostic fee the place closed early and didn't advise him. How the heck am I going to get my kids to school when my car is locked up on a week day and their car seats are in there? Will definitely be telling everyone not go ever take their vehicle here. read more

We were driving on the 5 freeway and received a emissions warning/ error in a 2014 Acura mdx and the car also started to run very poorly. We pulled over in Patterson and found 5 Star. Scammers!! never take your car for smog here! They charged me for the smog test then an additional $20 because it didn't pass the first time. (Something about that the sensors weren't working since we put a new battery) A friend of ours has a coder that lets you know whats wrong with your vehicle when it doesn't pass smog and it came back with nothing! Now Five Star wants to charge another $95 to test again to see whats wrong! Im done with this place. Never again. other places don't charge you if your car doesn't pass. read more

Will never come here again. I always go to Big O tires to get my oil changes and never had to pay anything over $34. I was actually recommended to check this place out. I had to pay $48 for an oil change here because they charge extra because My car uses a 10W30 and lucky me, they don't keep 10W30 in stock from what I was told?! My BMW X1 started making awful noises while I was on the 5, driving from Napa to LA. I called my insurance towing company and was picked up and towed to 5 Star Automotive in Patterson. Their first reaction was to say they don't usually work on BMWs, but they took the time to look at the car on the tow truck bed and decided they could look further in their repair shop. They discovered the middle section of the undershield was loose and flapping. They cut it off and took me for a test drive to see if that solved the problem. It did. The amazing part of this story is that they wouldn't except any payment for their work! It was all about helping a neighbor in need. These guys are great and Patterson is lucky to have them. read more

I called 2 weeks ago to schedule a smog. At the time I called I told them that the check engine light was on. They said that this would be an instant fail until work was completed. When I tried to drop the vehicle off they said they had no one available until Monday and that there was an additional $150 charge just to tell me what repairs were needed. Bullsh$&. I went to another business. I still have to wait until Monday but I don't have to pay crooks $150 to hook up my truck to the computer just to get the same codes that they get when they tried to do the smog. I will never go to 5 Star Automotive again. If I could give these crooks zero stars I would!!! read more

Do not go. Beware! Beware! I brought my porche here trying to stay local and they f$&@ed me over. Smog passed but the mechanic Jamie decide to take my car for a joy ride on the dyno drove it for 7 miles and when I returned I didn't know how long they should e driving to do the smog. I leave and my car starts to smoke. He burnt out my clutch. The smog wasn't even on the dyno and if it was I been told it is only 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile they put on. I was extremely unhappy and brought it back. The entire time I came back I was talked down to I was disrespected my car was violated and broken and they accept no responsibility. I truly give 0 stars but that isn't an option. Worst place I ever been and I will never return unless it's to hand him the bill for the parts and labor. read more

I had to make an emergency stop of Hwy 5 in Patterson when my transmission cover on my BMW came loose and was scrapping the ground. As a female traveling alone I was scared. Thanks to a search on my phone I located Five Star Automotive. I caught them right before closing and Sierra at the desk could not have been nicer. I noticed the Labor per hour sign posted and was sure I was going to be charged for the full hour, but no it was just over $18.00. They assured me that it would be safe enough to drive to my destination (2hrs) without the cover so that was comforting. After a few days I had a follow-up phone call from Sierra. Never never ever going back to this place in my life I rather burn my car then take it here so over priced they charged me $423 for just labor and they didn't even fix the problem I fixed it myself there were saying it's the water pump and the end it was only 1 little holes that was leaking that cost $20 and they ended me charging me $630. read more

I'm honestly surprised by all the very dramatic and emotional negative reviews. They sound a bit contrived in my humble opinion. Unfortunately people seem to be more outspoken about their negative feelings than when one has had a positive experience. Dealing with cars and mechanical issues is not fun and can bring out the worst in any of us, for sure. It is also hard to find a trustworthy mechanics that you feel isn't trying to get something over on you. I too have felt like I've left a shop with my car having more problems then when I brought it in. That being said, I've taken my vehicles here since 2009 and have never been unhappy. The only problem I have had is perhaps a less than friendly office staff members unprofessional manner but for the most part I have been happy with the service to my car and mostly stellar office help! The new woman in the office, Sierra is amazing. Professional, friendly, informative and helpful. My car service is always less than when I have taken it to get a quote elsewhere, often by hundreds of dollars. I have never felt like money was trying to be made off of me. They've even cleaned the exterior of my car a few times! In fact, the own Jamie, has always been what I felt was very honest and never suggested unnecessary work unless it was something serious. I'll continue to happily take my car here and will absolutely continue to suggest it to friends and family. Thank you Five Star and great move adding Sierra to your team. read more
