I found Auto Locksmith on Yelp and was glad I did. We have a recent model Toyota Camry that requires a transponder chip key to drive the car. My son has a knack for misplacing things including his keys, so for peace of mind, we wanted to get a couple of back up keys made. Auto Locksmith was very responsive and called me to let me know that they were running late and called me again when they where on there way. Jay did a fantastic job when he came out. Jay clearly knew his stuff and explained how transponder keys worked. He cut and programmed the transponder keys and then tested both the new keys and my original keys to make sure they all worked. I lost one of the two keys for my 2010 Toyota Prius, I couldn't believe the dealer was going to charge upwards of $500 to replace it, including $100 just to CUT THE KEY! What?? Daniel came in MUCH cheaper, the bulk of his price being the key itself which has to be purchased from Toyota. In fact he was the best priced of 5 locksmiths I called. I made an appointment and then later had to postpone it, since suddenly there was a chance the key had been found (it hadn't). Despite my moving things around, Daniel came through and got the job done when I needed it. He was friendly and professional. I am certainly a grateful fan of Auto Locksmith and they are who I called when I couldn't find my one and only key and fob needed to start my Highlander about 5pm on a Sunday afternoon when I needed to get to a dinner that evening as well as a doctor appointment the next morning. AAA said they could tow me to the dealer and the dealer could get back to me the next morning about how long the fix would be. Instead I looked on yelp, found these good reviews and called Auto Locksmith. Frank answered and said he could come in an hour. He called back in about an hour to say he was delayed but would come in half an hour more which he did. The service call was $280 which was painful but under the circumstances I was willing to pay to get my car working again and I know the dealer probably would charge as much or more. I also had to pay about another $120 for two new keys with chips which are the expensive kind that have to be programmed and another car fob. Frank had a computer and the mobile lock shop right in his van and he was able to take things apart and figure out my key codes and get everything programmed and cut for me within less than a couple of hours. Meanwhile I was looking all over the house for the keys which I had just used about two or three hours prior. I was out of my mind and figured I must have tossed them away accidentally or flushed them down the toilet or some strange thing because on my hands an knees looking all over the floor and looked on every shelf and counter I couldn't find them anywhere. So I paid the $420 or so and got two working keys (lesson learned to replace a lost back up right away even if it costs $80) and then I got the Toyota key fob as well. This was all done by Frank who just worked calmly and attentively to get the job done. He was very personable and assuring which helped me to feel that I made a good call to get it done and not have the anxieties of a dealer transaction which could take a day or more. I felt really great relief having those working keys so fast and knowing I could get to my morning appointment. I was very late but also got to to my evening destination as well. About two weeks later I was in the kitchen backing cookies and my nephew picked up a pot holder off a hook to take out the baking pan. I was squatted down to look inside the oven. I caught a gleam of something out of the corner of my eye and the keys had evidently fallen off the counter and caught on the hook and was somewhat hidden UNDER the potholder. I don't even know how this is possible but to find that original set was beyond my dreams and the key and fob will still open the car. What an experience! Very positive experience! I lost the key FOB for my Generation III Toyota Prius (fell off my key chain - erg!!). I wanted to get it fixed quickly, but the Toyota dealerships I called (downtown Oakland and Berkeley) were all scheduling service at about a week out. I called Auto Locksmith and he was able to come meet me the same day (I didn't have to drop it off a the dealership). Daniel was super friendly, quick, and answered all of my geeky questions about how these key FOBs work. Frank came, cut, and conquered. I've got an old virago motorcycle that had the key bend and break during a hectic moment. I kept the now two pieces of the key and called around different locksmiths, probably about 6 or so calls, and nobody said they could help me? I went into two locksmith stores, and though they were very nice, still couldn't help me. I called this company as my last hope before I just towed the darn thing to a mechanic for a new ignition. The valet at my doctor's office lost my remote-entry key fob. Fortunately I had a spare. The Toyota dealer quoted me over $500 for parts and labor for a new, programmed fob and cutting an emergency key. Yeowch. Auto Locksmith quoted me just over $300 instead. I had to wait to haggle with my doctor for reimbursement, but once I got their check, I contacted Auto Locksmith again and set up an on-site appointment. Daniel arrived on time, and took only about 20 minutes to make me a working fob and emergency key, charging me exactly what he had given me as an estimate. He preferred that I pay by check, so no frequent flyer miles on my credit card for the transaction unfortunately, but I'm keeping his card in my wallet just in case I get locked out in the future! read more

Very helpful. I was in the process of moving and my key split in two just as I was taking the last load. I called several places to figure what exactly I needed to buy and the answer was a whole new key. I called Honda and they were extremely unhelpful. They did however let me know they would charge me for the key, and the actual service, and I needed to tow it to them but they didn't have time that day. I yelped mobile locksmith and came across these guys. The gentleman that answered the phone was very friendly and confident he could get me a key that day. The price was very reasonable especially considering my quote from Honda. They showed up about 30 minutes into the two hour window they gave me when we spoke on the phone. These guys helped me out when I lost my keyfob. They were able to order a new key for me from the manufacturer cheaper than the dealership would have given me. They did all of this over the phone. That took a few days, of course, but when the key arrived, they met me at my car after hours. The bad news is that this particular model of car has a problem (sometimes) with adding new keys when the security system is armed. They only charged me for the discount key (not labor). I still have to get the car's computer system replaced, but at least now I have a new key. They're really nice and that really helps when you're in this kind of situation. And even though my outcome wasn't ideal, I still think this is a 5-star business. read more

I went on vacation and ended up losing my car keys. So, the headache to have to replace it was overwhelming when I finally got home. I came across this review and since the address was close by where I live, I decided to give them a call. As it turned out, they were a mobile service which was another great thing and flexible with the time. Frank came, copied and programmed my key in about 20 mins and we were done. I checked yelp and his score of 5 stars is correct. He responded quickly to my location to program a car transponder key. I decided to save some $$ by ordering an uncut transponder key online instead of the high dealer price. I then had the key cut for $20 by the dealer, but still needed it programmed; the dealer wanted $90. I therefore called Auto Locksmith and was quoted a more reasonable price that included his arrival at my place to program the key. Not only was that a savings and convenience, he provided a completely brand new key with remote features for half the price the dealer was going to charge me, so talk about savings!!! It would have been cheaper to just have him make a new complete key rather than buying parts online and so forth to save a few bucks that at the end cost me more. It's a lesson learned for the next time or before you try to do it piecemeal like me. I will definitely use this company again! My wife and I had a stuck cylinder on our car; it had been harder and harder to get the key to go in, and eventually it just wouldn't go in at all. We called these guys for an estimate. $180-205 for labor, $70 for parts if they have to put in a cylinder, but that wouldn't increase the labor. Ok, it's a deal. The tech came out towards the end of the day. He took the door apart, fixed the cylinder, but then couldn't get the door-handle latching mechanism back together and working. When we started, the lock was busted; but the open-the-door part was working fine. He eventually left for the evening -- like 9pm -- because it would be easier to finish in the daylight. He called the next day and said he couldn't make it until the evening. Wasn't the point that it would be easier during the day? So we agreed to have him come the next day after that. The car, meanwhile, now has a drivers door with no interior panel and cannot be opened. I suppose we could have driven it, but since we have a second car we decide not to. Not very safe to be driving with a driver's door that can't be opened, we're not the Dukes of Hazzard. After another hour or two, on this day two of the car door being apart, he tells me the door mechanism won't go back together and I'll have to take it to a body shop to get them to fix it, but I would still have to pay them the $180. So: you fixed my car door in one way, and broke it in another, and I still have to pay you? The point of calling a mobile service as opposed to taking it to shop was to *not* to have to take it in somewhere. My wife called a manager, who was quite nice and was like "what, no, let me talk to him". He sent out a more senior tech who then apparently had to drive all over town to find a missing piece of the door-handle mechanism (he called me twice to give me updates that he was still looking for it). I don't know when or how this thing went missing; all I know is the door-handle mechanism was working fine before they took the door apart, so I suspect the first tech lost it. Finally he fixes it and asks me for $280. I'm like "that's not the estimate, and and no point did anyone say this was going to be more". He goes and calls home office, comes and asks again if I was sure the first tech didn't say it would be more (yeah, I'm positive; he said I had to pay $180 and still go to a body shop). Ok, he agrees to stick with $205 then. So, eventually it got fixed, for the initial agreed-upon price, and everyone was courteous and nice, but it was stressful. I had an essentially un-driveable car for two days and had to do a lot more project management and "wait, what, no, that's not right" on my part than I would expect. 3/5 stars on Yelp is "A-OK" and I can't quite say this was an A-OK experience, so I'm going with 2/5 "Meh, I've experienced better" because it was a "meh" experience, and I have definitely experienced better. Many others have obviously had great experiences, I wish the staff of Auto Locksmith well, but next time I have a car lock problem this will not be the number I call. *** Edit 5/19: upgrade from 2 to 3 stars; my wife said she thought all the customer service on the phone was exceptional, and also Yoo's comment is thoughtful. read more

INCREDIBLE! My motorcycle keys had been stolen a day before and I was sent on a wild goose chase from one dealer to lock smith to dealer to lock smith and decided to just check on yelp. That's when I found Auto Locksmith and am beyond glad I did! They went above and beyond to get the job done. My bike gave them some trouble, but not only one but THREE locksmiths came by to make sure the job would get done no matter what! I lost my set of keys (including car key to my 2015 Honda Civic LX) on Christmas Eve. While shopping at the Bayfair Target in San Leandro, either it dropped and I didn't hear it or someone took them from my cart. I got done Christmas shopping at 2p when I realized I didn't have them. Ended up leaving my car in the parking lot until the morning of Dec. 26th. Called Auto Locksmith and they arrived within an hour, more or less. Locksmith charged approximately $300 for the key, to cut it and to program the FOB. While testing the key he made all buttons worked except the trunk button didn't pop the trunk. Tried it twice. Then the locksmith tried to say that "maybe the trunk wasn't working before or perhaps I tripped a wire." I assured him that everything worked before I lost my keys. Then he looked at the car info inside driver's side door, realized my car was manufactured in 9/2015. He proceeds to tell me that because it was manufactured late in the year, my car is considered a 2016. He then tells me that he doesn't have the correct key in his vehicle and that he could meet me another day. Met him 2 days (12/28) later at the location of his first job of the day. He makes the key and programs it, only to figure out that the new key he grabbed was defective and they had to order more. Finally, met the locksmith on 1/5 at the Trader Joe's in Walnut Creek to get the correct key with all buttons working a week and 3 days later. After paying $300, yes I wanted ALL BUTTONS working. read more

I lost my car keys while on vacation. Unfortunately, the bad luck continued during this transaction. The reason I am giving 4 stars is because I understand the kind of extra parts/labor that they spent to make this work even when things went wrong. It was crappy for all of us, taking 8 hours of time to get the keys, but Frank made it work. Summary: I had an appointment at 9 in the morning -- Frank was great -- confirmed the appointment an hour before, telling me that it would be done in 20 minutes. After he arrived, poor Frank cut his first set of keys. They didn't work -- set my car alarm off. Then he tried another set after twenty minutes, and again, they didn't work -- causing my car alarm to go haywire. Even though he cut those keys, he never charged me for them. After about an hour of time trying to figure out what had gone wrong, he had to move on, telling me he would come back a couple hours with a different key. I was left stranded, having to cancel meetings and obligations. Frank didn't call me back for 5 hours (this why I didn't give him 5 stars). When he did, he said he would be back and that he had researched the problem, and had found the solution. He finally came back at 5:30pm (7.5 hours after the appt). At this point, I am tired of this whole thing. Luckily, the key he brought worked. I paid, and he charged me fairly. :) -- This is why all of the problems happened: What he told me was that he misinterpreted the name of my car -- my car is a Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. He thought it was a Subaru Outback Sport Edition. I blame Subaru for choosing to have different key types for two models that are so similarly named for the same year. I don't think this would happen to anyone else -- just bad luck. Frank is a good locksmith and he does good work. Deserves a 4 even in a crappy situation. read more

I desperately needed a chipped spare key for my car in case I accidentally lock out my keys inside the car again. I searched in Yelp and found Auto Locksmith. I called and a sweet voice responded. I told her what I wanted and she responded clearly and gave me a time frame to expect someone to come (Daniel). To my surprise, Daniel came earlier than I was expecting him. He did everything in his mobile workshop (duplicated the key and programmed it as well). Much to my delight, on top of the chipped/programmed key, I even got an extra manual key (this one would only open the doors for me but will not start the car). So Kudos to Auto Locksmith for a job well done! The price? Not as high as the dealers would charge you! Highly recommended place to get a working spare keys for everything that uses keys! read more
