Called Quach Locksmith and they returned my call quickly. I was able to get a transponder key made for my old car for $55. Other places I've called quoted me $70 to $220. The owners made my key and we were able to test it before driving off. Ms. Quach also made a good point of having an extra regular, non transponder car key to keep in my wallet in case I lock myself out. It was priced at $6. My GF needed keys replicates and this shop is nearby. A short walk greeted by locked doors to gain entrance. It's a shop that does a little of everything as well as sells little necessary odds and ends. Four sets of keys made. They worked without a hitch. And of course, different shape keys were used to differentiate them. Very thoughtful also a set of Chinese soup spoons at $1 a pop were purchased. They are likely the best value locksmiths in the Oakland area. Would come here over big chain hardware stores like ACE or Home Depot any day to get my keys duplicated. I needed house and mailbox keys duplicated for my tenants and got them done here quickly and with affordable prices! She even let me know that I brought in two of the same keys so she didn't make extra duplicates and suggested I go home and try them to make sure. Super honest mom & pop store. Best place in the Bay Area to get your key issues resolved. I say that because I currently live in Daly City and out there, everything gets pricey for no reason. Same goes for the leading warehouse locations. Quach's Locksmith offers cheap, quick service and great customer service! I believe I paid with a credit card last time I went here but always nice to have extra cash on hand (for a duplicate set of house keys, you may be paying no more than $3-$5 or even less!). I needed locks to be re-keyed which I had never done before. I was lucky to call Quach and speak with Jenny who was genuinely helpful and generous with her time. She talked and texted with me for 3 days, helping me figure out what I needed to bring to her and what I needed to buy. She guided me and in the end, she didn't profit much from my job. I visited Quach's Locksmith after 3 unsuccessful efforts to get a mailbox key duplicated at Home Depot, Ace and True Value hardware stores. Which was a total waste of time and money as none of the keys worked. Jenny took a look at my last defective key made at True Value, compared it to my original and immediately determined that the duplicate was "off" (even though I couldn't tell the difference). Whereupon she quickly made me a new key which works perfectly now. I never realized before; but it really makes a difference who makes your keys! Those who are very skilled and specialized at doing this can do a far superior job vs. the "wannabees" at Home Depot or the hardware chains. So save yourselves the headache. Really excellent service. I called ahead and texted photos of a 1920's house key I had not been able to get duplicated. She found a matching blank in stock. When I got there I decided to have all 18 keys on that key ring duplicated. All different sizes so I was prepared to pick up next day but she told me she'd have them done in 20 min. Skip hardware stores where the keys don't work half the time. This local shop will make keys that work and the price is lower than big box stores. Highly recommended. She kindly even warned me that where I had parked around corner was actually no parking, which signs I had missed. read more

I had three keys that were hard to copy - small thin keys for mailbox, old desk and file cabinet. Ace Hardware was hopeless - couldn't copy them because they were too small or didn't work and was waste of time and money. And told me I'd have to find a specialist. I then came to this place and Jenny worked on shaving them to size and tweaking them for almost 20 min to get it right. She takes pride in her skills and experience. She told me that if they didn't work that I could bring it back. But the locks are so old I might have to try to replace them entirely. Fortunately she got it right with just one try! I don't really have too much to add to what others have said but this place is run by a middle-aged Vietnamese lady who is very sweet. I called to see if she could cut a car key for me and she told me to take a picture/text it to her. She called me back and told me she should be able to but made no guarantees. I showed up and she took it to her machine in the back and was able to cut it no problem. She even came out of her store to make sure it fits on both sides of the key. It didn't work the first time so she went back in the store to polish it up and make a few adjustment cuts until it worked like perfection. Costed $3 since I supplied the key although she had some blanks available. Definitely great customer service that is hard to beat. Also, she was very excited to hear that I found her on Yelp. I love the middle-aged woman that owns the place. I just went in there to browse because I was new to the neighborhood. I was eyeing a bike lock, but the store was about to close and I didn't have any money on me. So she offered to have me come back in a half an hour, and she promised me she'd still be there. Sure enough, she stayed open for me. She let me take my bike inside the store. I ended up buying the cheapy cable lock for my front wheel for $6.99, plus a couple of cute bike-shaped key fobs. She cut open the lock's package and checked to make sure the keys worked. So thoughtful! She also was super patient while I was being indecisive about what color key fob to get and had to text my friend and ask what color they wanted. She seems like someone who meditates or who has a strong spiritual practice. ~~~ It should be noted, though, that they close at 6:00 every day. Next time I ride past there, I'll suggest to her to change the hours posted on Yelp. read more
