Received a referral for this place from El Segundo Community Network and decided to try them out. My registration is up for renewal and I needed a smog check first. No appointments necessary and it was conveniently located. I was in and out in 15 minutes and it cost $58. They have the ability to process your registration on line and issue you a reg sticker on the spot for an extra charge of $22 (very useful if you are running late on submitting your registration). Based on the yelp reviews, thought this place would be friendly, quick, and easy and it was none of those. Upon driving up and waiting in line right when they opened , a woman waved from 15 yards away. 15 minutes later when my husband and I pull you, she barks at us and says she was trying to tell us to move out car because it was blocking a lane. There was no signage for her direction and she could have greeted us first. I saw an older gentlemen get out of his car from a different lane and she yells at him that he's not supposed to leave his car yet. Again, where's the signage to follow directions? I left my husband and walked across the street to get coffee. A half hour later he's still waiting. We just moved into the area and will definitely go to a different location next time. If they have specific ways to enter and operate do everyone a favor and post some signage . read more

This was my 2nd trip to Auto Check, they did a smog on a Diesel engine check and a gas engine as well. Both done with speed and efficiency. I will say the car I took was not ready for inspection and the tech explained what I needed to do and what system was not ready to be checked, all at no charge! That alone made me feel this company is not trying to just get my money but rather build trust with the consumer. I went back a few hours later and passed! To top it all off got my tags paid for on the spot and drove away a happy customer! I understand there are several options to get a car smog done but Auto Check has the tools and know how to make this 1 stop shop! I will be returning.. read more

Bait & switch? I called in advance to confirm that they could check my 98 Dodge van for the DMV. I was told that in addition to the regular price ($50) they'd charge an additional $20 to remove and replace the engine shroud inside the van. Nobody asked but when I showed up and after the tech had started working, he told me I'd have to pay an additional $50 because my van was a motorhome. Okay, it is a van conversion but requires no more work than any other Dodge van. As I'd already blown half a day getting there, I protested but told the text to go ahead. So, in stead of the $70 I was quoted, they ended up charging me $118.20! For the record, this was at their Kramerwood shop, right off Robertson near the 10 freeway. A smog check's not rocket science & they did get the job done. Still, as I don't appreciate bait and switch tactics, I won't be back read more

In and out in under 10 minutes. Got in early, lane open, sat down for a few minutes and paid. Still got to work on time when I wasn't expecting to. Great place to go for a smog check - fast and efficient. I brought a competitive coupon and they readily accepted it. They have free sodas at this location but there in a non-descript, small white refrigerator - if you ask, they'll gladly point you to them. If you're coming from the north, be sure to turn in by the light as there is only one entrance and exit. Hope you have as good of luck as I did. read more

So I wasn't aware that when a new car battery is installed it erases/resets all the drive data so It wouldn't pass ! They instructed me to look up my drive cycle for my vehicle and bring it back. They checked it a few times until I finally had driven it enough and it passed ! Lloyd, the smog tech, was so kind !!! The test was so fast! I've never had to wait! What a great place! It was so easy, I was in and out in around 15 min and thankfully, my car passed inspection. They have coffee and soda for you while you wait. My only critiques were the greetings I got. No one there seemed to really like or even fake like what they were doing. The welcome was gruff but I'm only there to get the job right so it's not my big concern. Everyone has a bad day. Also, I had no idea I could grab a drink and there was no where to sit. I had to notice the area. Lastly, I didn't understand that I didn't need to pay until after it passes. I felt kinda dumb when I when to the window. But now I know and I was happy that they send the paperwork to the DMV for me and attach everything I need to get everything done asap. I'll be back. read more

My second time getting my smog check done by these guys. Went in right before noon on a Saturday, and there was no wait. I love my car, a Hyundai Tucson, but it is almost 14 years old. I really was nervous that this time my little Tucson would finally fail the smog test because of... age. The gentleman who serviced my car was very courteous and made me feel comfortable. When I asked if my little guy had passed the test, he said "oh yeah, it's still going strong!" with a big smile. Even if he faked the excitement for me, I was happy to hear the news. After all, who doesn't want to see their child pass a test? I even got my registration done here. It bumped up my bill by $30 or so (or was it?? please check with the nice ladies behind the counter) but being able to GET IT DONE RIGHT THERE was worth it for me. They gave me a sticker for my license plate, and everything for this year's registration was done in less than 30 mins. Nice. I'll come back again next time. Tucson will be 16 then. Just went to have a smog check at AUTO CHEK in Manhattan Beach, unfortunately Mario was our service tech. From the second he told us to pull forward he was condescending and had a major attitude. The things he told us weren't terrible like "put your car in park" (I thought we were going to be pulling forward) but it was said with such arrogance. Everything he told us could have been said with kindness and professionalism. When he showed us what was wrong he gave my daughter sass and accused her of never having a previous smog check. The facility as a whole does a great job, quality service, pretty quick. A little pricey and had we had one of the other gentlemen, probably wouldn't be as angry as Mario made us. Oh and be sure to look for a coupon BEFORE you sign off on the price- he was over the top rude about "nobody mentioned a coupon before you signed off on the receipt, if it were up to me I'd give you the discount, it's not my money". Nice. Great attitude toward your employer. Anyhoo, that put a lil wrench in our mood. read more

A few years ago, I had such a horrible experience getting a smog check and getting my registration sticker at the DMV. I expected it to be the same this year and was dreading it. I pulled into the drive-through type of service at Auto Check with no wait time. Right away, the employees assisted me. I waited maybe 10-15 minutes and the smog check was complete. I checked out at the register and got my registration sticker for my vehicle there. All staff was extremely helpful and friendly. It was such a peace of mind coming here, completely stress free. I needed a smog for an R230 Mercedes SL. The dealer wanted $150! For most cars I would recommend Drulis Bros Auto Repair on Rosecrans Ave in Hawthorne for a smog check. $43.20 out the door for a post 1995 car. But the SL has the Mercedes Electronic Stability Program which includes traction control. To put it that on a Dyno, the traction control would have to be turned off. After a quick conversation at Drulis, I got the notion they didn't see too many SLs and I didn't like the image in my head of the car launching off the Dyno at 25mph. weeeeeee! I figured these cars would be a dime a dozen in Manhattan Beach. The ACC tech new right away that you don't dyno an SL to smog it. At $58.20, they were a few more bucks than Drulis, but a lot cheaper than the MBZ Stealer. Free soda while you wait, but drink fast. They finished before I finished my soda. These boys are quick. I had enough extra time to visit the Lido Bakery, just north of ACC for a slice of berries and cream cake. Deluxe, baby. If you have a higher end vehicle, or you need it quick, I recommend this place. read more

Took two cars (well okay one was a truck) and both passed. Service was friendly and quick and they honored the Yelp Discount (don't forget it like I almost did). For older vehicles (like my truck) they run through a full inspection of gas tank, smog, etc. but even with all the extra tests I was there about 15 minutes tops. Newer vehicles like my Accord literally took about 5 minutes. Will definitely be back next year with my truck! Highly recommended! read more
