I called Austin Tree Experts and Tara and her team were there to help me wade through the waters. They showed me which trees needed to go, which trees could stay, and everything in between. They're knowledgable, prompt, honest and trustworthy. The price was hard to beat and the service was beyond my expectations. They took down huge branches and cleaned my yard up right. They were even okay working next to the troublesome kinda scary dogs next door. And they worked around my busy schedule; I hardly noticed they were there because they worked while I was at work and got the job done! I really can't say anything bad about these guys. I've been in my house about 8 mos, and I discovered I desperately need gutters. Before getting an estimate, I wanted to get the trees pruned the proper distance from the roof. I chose Austin Tree Experts because of their level of expertise. I live in a neighborhood full of oak trees, and up and down my street people have signs that say "Don't prune February thru June." Daniel with Austin Tree Experts assured me that pruning would be safe if done by professionals. Daniel was punctual for the initial consultation/estimate, and the crew was on time and professional on the day they were scheduled to work. While the crew was working, one of my neighbors was concerned about pruning during February. She called the phone number of the side of the truck, and Keith, the owner of the company, actually came out and talked to her in person. Keith explained to me in an email that he has the highest level of arborist certification, and he has sat on numerous boards or panels that make recommendations regarding oak wilt. He explained that if tree limbs are rubbing against the roof, they're already at risk of infection. The crew got the work done and cleaned up after themselves (my yard looked cleaner after they were done than before they started). The next day someone came out to inspect the work and make sure I was satisfied. This is my first house, and it's the only tree service I've ever used. I don't know how their price compares to other companies. But their service and knowledge seems hard to beat. read more

These people have got it together. They are prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and do an amazing job. First of all, they have a great website and you can view proposals and invoices online, which I love. But most importantly, the do great work. We had them take out some dead trees and clear our roof last fall and they came out, did the work, cleared it out, and were gone before I was even home from work. There was no sign of them left other than beautiful trees. They had cleaned up everything perfectly. We are hiring them again for some more work because the last experience was so great. The short story is that this company delivers what they promise, when they promise it, for the price they promised, and goes beyond. I rarely am motivated to write reviews, but we've been incredibly impressed with Austin Tree Experts for their professionalism and knowledge. The company has a master arborist who comes to look at your property and diagnose, if necessary, and help you figure out what should be done in your yard. (Many other companies don't have the same qualifications.) We had a LOT of work done in our one-acre yard--had to have about seven dead trees removed, as well as a lot of trimming, pruning, clearing, etc. We had three different companies come and give us estimates. Austin Tree Experts' prices were comparable, but the service is why we're so glad we chose them to do the work. There's no hard sell--and they broke out each individual item we talked about doing in their estimate, so that I could see what it would cost and decide what I could spend. They showed up when they said they would, took as long as they said it would take, and cleared the debris completely. When their crew missed a few things we'd discussed, they sent them back out the next week and took care of every single thing (no charge, of course)--and later that evening, after the stump grinder left, a woman even showed up with a leaf blower, saying the stump grinder had forgotten his, and they wanted to clean up any mess the machine left. Impressive. This is a fair, straightforward, honest and professional company. I'd recommend them unhesitatingly--and there are some tree companies out there who will not be as honest with you. (We know! We got one of them who insisted we had oak wilt, when two other companies and the Texas Forestry Department assured us we did not.) read more

I always write about excellent service as well as those that disappoint. Austin Tree Experts are Outstanding !!! I am 68 and have used many tree services in many cities. These folks are the BEST I have ever used. New to Austin, I turned to Yelp and read reviews. These folks stood out. I contacted them and Micah Burns, a certified arborist, came at the time he was scheduled to come. He made me feel as if he had all day, explaining about Live Oaks and what and how they would prune my tree. He committed to show up with the crew to get them started which he did. The office communicated clearly about the scheduling of the job and the crew arrived when they said they would. The crew was also outstanding, cleaning up after themselves as well as I would have. I had a question about the finished product and Micah returned to discuss it with me. He said it was a judgement call by the crew, but he would have them back to "touch up things" on one side of the tree. He refused payment at that time saying they wanted me to be satisfied. The crew arrived today, finished the job, insured that I was satisfied, which I was, cleaned up again as if they were never here and thanked me for the business. I put the check in the mail as they were pulling out of the driveway. This is a real company, with outstanding skills and workmanship, excellent customer service and also, they were reasonable in price. I recommend them to anyone and will continue to use them for my trees. read more

They were recommended by a friend who used their service previously and had no issues. Estimate and the scheduling were easy. But, we were supposed to get the trees trimmed today at noon. I spoke with Daniel at 1:30, he told me they were finishing up earlier jobs and would be here this afternoon (again, scheduled for noon arrival) and I would be contacted if they weren't going to make it and a reschedule was needed. They have proceeded to no-call no-show, and haven't been answering their phones since 4:45. Weak. ---update, they finally called back, at 5:20, to inform me that i will be contacted tomorrow morning to reschedule. No guarantee that the job will happen tomorrow. ---2nd update, they called back at 5:30, rescheduled first thing in the morning. ---3rd update, they came out, trimmed the tree and carted off the debris first hing in the morning. Tree looks great and the yard is clean, except for a minor scattering of tiny sticks all around. They did not initially inform me that I would not need to be present for the trimming, which is why time was wasted the day before. Overall a great service, at a reasonable price, leaving it a 4 stars because of the scheduling hassles. read more

This was my second tree work experience with Austin Tree Experts over the past three years, and both have been excellent. From the estimate (which they stayed to) to the cleanup this crew could not be better. The arborist on the scene not only checked the health of the large trees to be trimmed, but other plants in my yard. The office was diligent in notifying me of a change in schedule made necessary by severe winter weather. The crew showed up on time, did the work (some of it risky high in the canopy of the trees) in a safe manner, carefully doctored the scars where all cuts were made, and cleaned up the grounds and gutters after removal. I have a yard full of live oaks and a few cedars that were in need of trimming. However, there are a lot of tree companies in Austin and I was worried about being overcharged and/or dealing with companies that trimmed without regard to the health of the trees. So I called around to various tree companies and got six quotes from reputable looking companies that ranged from reasonable for the number of trees in my yard ($1125) to outrageous ($3000). Micah with Austin Tree Experts gave me one of the better quotes (and was even open to matching a competitors quote). He also was extremely knowledgeable and gave me the sense that he and his team knew how to properly trim up all my trees without hurting them (and they did). After they came and did the initial trimming, I noticed a few trees that needed some additional work. Micah came back and walked my property with me and noted some other areas that I missed that needed additional work. So his team came back and did the additional trimmings. I wouldn't fault them for not "doing the job right the first time" because I think they did. With a lot of tree trimming to be done, I think we both overlooked a number of areas that needed trimming because of other trees that were in the way. I was very happy that they were willing and able to come back (at no additional charge) to catch those spots that were missed the first time. Overall, they were very professional, were very reasonably priced, they have a great website where you can see a record of when they visited your property as well as see your proposals and pay your bill, and they did a great job on all of my trees. There are only a few characteristics of any service company that matter to me, after years of working with contractors. Number 1 is reliability. Second is good work. Third is safe practice. Fourth is clean up. Price is last. I think I pay a bit more for Austin Tree Experts, but the company is insured and bonded. No lawsuit from an accident on my property. The best feature is it is totally trustworthy. A year ago, we were out of town when a storm knocked down a tree in our yard. I sent Austin Tree Experts an e-mail asking it to send a crew to clean up. It did. No mess for me or our neighbors. Its crews arrive on time, work fast and safely, and they leave a clean work area. I pay on-line. You cannot ask for better service. Last week, it removed three dead pine trees from our yard, the stump grinders came on time, and all is jake. I am really impressed with the whole team at Austin Tree Experts. We scheduled our consultation and Keith was on time and ready. I was impressed about how much he knew about our trees. We were in dire need of having our trees trimmed and had an obnoxious hackberry tree needing to be cut down. This hackberry tree trunk settled into the skirting of our house and rested in between our house and our neighbors. A very challenging spot. Not a problem for them. I found out after calling them that the owner of Austin Tree Experts, master arborist Keith Brown, lives on my street, so I was probably a little biased in choosing them to prune the very tall cedar elms and pecan in my yard. I got three estimates (others were Treemasters and The Tree Tender) and ATE was in the middle price-wise, but you'll find out from talking to arborists that there are different levels of thoroughness in tree pruning, and they charge based on the time they actually expect to put in. Also, Keith is the only Board-Certified Master Arborist listed for hire in Austin by the International Society of Arboriculture (www.isa-arbor.com). He took the time to explain the Level 2 Pruning process in general, and then talked me through what he recommended for each tree in the yard. His crew did great work and a good job of cleaning up, and the trees look much better now. Despite the amazing amount of dropped branches, they did no damage to my house or new landscaping. With this pruning done, I look forward to no more dropped cedar elm limbs punching holes in my roof! read more

Keith Brown of Austin Tree Experts recently helped me with an emergency animal rescue (our old cat was stuck in a tall tree). We waited about two days for her to climb down on her own, but she refused - no amount of shaking of dry cat food containers or calling her name would make her move. While other tree companies gave us the run around, Keith was willing to help our family out. Even after seeing the challenging location of our pet, he went above and beyond with his services. He brought his bucket truck, but the tricky location of the tree did not allow for the truck to be used (he could not park it close enough to the tree- our house and some fencing were in the way). The ladder we had was not tall enough, and he went out of his way to go home to pick up his own personal ladder that was extra tall. Even with the extra tall ladder, he still had to free climb a portion of the tree to get to the cat. He safely brought kitty and himself down to earth, and we were amazed and relived. I will not forget this extreme generosity and awesome customer service experience. Even though we did not use him for real tree work, I will use Austin Tree Experts for all my tree and landscaping needs in the future. Thank you Keith! read more

The initial communications were great. I submitted my questions via the form on the website and had a response within a couple of days. I set up an appointment for Daniel to stop by on 8/1 to look at the space and make some suggestions. He showed up on time and was knowledgeable. He said he'd follow-up with a quote. I hadn't heard anything by 8/6 so I followed up with an email to Daniel and the office. I never heard back from either so I called about a week later around 8/15. Kay (in the office) said she'd follow up with Daniel. I still hadn't heard anything by 8/22 so I called the office again. Kay said she assumed that Daniel had followed-up with me. She suggested I contact Daniel so I sent another email and voicemail to Daniel. It's 8/29 and still nothing so I'm giving up and moving on. read more

I couldn't be more pleased! Moved into a brand new house which meant the trees surrounding it had suffered a bit from neglect. They had tons of ball moss and some dead limbs. Micah with ATE came out and was very professional and knowledgeable. He told me the different types of trees we had, which was very interesting considering I've lived in Austin since 1970 and couldn't tell you what kind of trees, (except for oak trees and the dreaded cedar trees) dominate the landscape. Come to find out we have cedar elms, ash, walnut and yaupon!! They scheduled us about 2 1/2 weeks out, were on time, cleaned up really well after they were through and the trees look great. One of our landscape lights got damaged as a limb fell on it but no worries -- I called Kacy and she was very gracious in telling me she'd pick up the cost of having it replaced! My experience with this company is first rate. I received my quote via e mail within the hour and then was called shortly thereafter to set up a time convenient to me, they worked around my schedule which I appreciated. I had a large tree with a very large branch hanging over a neighbors clay tile roof. The time had come to cut back this branch before any serious damage was done. The 3 guys who did this job were amazing, they were so careful and managed to avoid any problems. After this they trimmed and shaped the rest of the trees on my property and cleaned up all of the debris. They also followed up to see if I was satisfied. I highly recommend them. read more

When they show up to perform a service, they do a good job. Getting them there, however, is another story. Crews from Austin Tree Experts have visited my home several times in the last few months and they have been late every single time, sometimes more than 90 minutes late. Additionally, it has taken multiple calls and e-mails to get a response from them to schedule each appointment. That kind of hassel is not worth it. I will not use them again. read more

Great service and Great Price! I received two bids to remove two small to medium sized trees and to prune / remove deadwood from two other trees. The first bid was almost $800 (a vendor that had a great sounding Groupon deal). Keith from Austin Tree Experts quote was $500 less! His crew was out the following week to remove the trees (I had one tree that was growing into an old chain-link fence, I was very impressed with how much of the tree they were able to remove and how close to the ground they were able to get to). These guys are on top of their game. I had another vendor diagnose and treat a diseased red oak I had resulting in a year worth of treatment, me doing a lot of unnecessary work, damage to property, and ultimately a dead tree. So, when I had the same issue with another red oak, I tried Austin Tree Experts. They came out, told me what they thought it was, looked at photos of the old tree leaves, cuts from old diseased tree, and said they would send off a sample to A&M Research Center to be sure. By doing this they confirmed their suspicion and were able to treat the red oak successfully. They never damaged any property and were always a pleasure to deal with. They show up when they say they will and charge you what they quoted. Call these guys the first time and you wil not be dissapointed. read more

I first contacted Austin Tree Experts, via the online request form, on June 3rd to request an estimate for the trimming of the trees in my front yard. I was quite impressed as got an almost immediate response. I scheduled an appointment for 4:30 on the 4th; however, I received a call that morning letting me know they needed to reschedule because the 'expert' they were going to send had to pick his kids up from school. I rescheduled for the 10th at 4:30, I had to take one hour of vacation leave from my job as I work downtown and it takes me 40 minutes plus to get home. When no one had arrived by 4:50 I called and was told they would contact the 'expert' to see where he was. I received a call back that the 'expert' had forgotten about the appointment and we would need to reschedule. When I requested an appointment after 5:00, so I would not have to take additional vacation time off, I was told the 'expert' would have to ask his wife if it was okay for him to work past 5:00. I was very upset at having wasted an hour of my vacation time, so I ask for the owner of the company to call me. I was told he would call me the next day, which would have been June 11th and I still haven't heard from him. Not only did I not get my trees trimmed, but I lost an hour of valuable vacation time. The next time my boss tells me I have to work late, I think I'm going to try the line of the 'expert' and tell her I have to ask my husband. read more
