Jon is a great HVAC technician. He's also an outstanding home comfort consultant who can plan and design your entire system far beyond the minimum effort, rip and replace, that most services are going to give you. That being said he's not going to up-sell you if it won't help you out, and he's completely on board trying to work within your budget as long as it's realistic. That's not really the best thing about Jon though. He's great at HVAC, the Xs and Os, but what sets him apart from most of the mediocre piss-poor tradesmen and contractors rolling around Austin these days is that he has his sh*t together. He tells you when he's coming, calls ahead of time, works hard as hell when he's on the clock, and stays in constant communication with you the whole time making sure you're on the same page. He takes care not to make a mess in your house (and if he does he cleans it up), he's respectful of your kids sleeping, and is really honest. The vast majority tradesmen completely overlook these soft-skills that are essential to their work. If you've dealt with as many awful tradesmen and contractors as I have lately, you're going to be very, very happy with Jon and Austin Star Services. read more

Since having my new AC unit installed in August, 2015, I have maintained a contract with this company...in order to keep the warranty in good standing. Late yesterday afternoon, I discovered by AC unit was not cooling my home. It was too late to contact Austin Star, but you can bet I was on the phone with them this morning, June 24th, at 8am. An appointment was immediately made for me for 10am - noon for today. Jon, the owner, was at my house right around 10am, and by 11am, my AC was working again. Thank goodness. Where do I start? This is the most telling thing I can say about Jon and the guys: my wife is 8 months pregnant and they brought us a bunch of diapers. They also brought us homemade tamales. Their work is impeccable, but their service and attention to detail is what separates them. I could go on and on about why we had to replace our HVAC system but y'all don't care about that. We had 3 different companies come out to give quotes and Jon was the only one who even looked in our attic. He showed and explained why we'd want to replace ducts and insulation along with the unit. In fact, he said if we didn't want to spend everything at once we should do ducts and insulation and use our home warranty to repair our existing unit. We decided to just do it all. They were professional, timely, honest, and passionate about their work. They cleaned up after themselves before they left everyday and did a near deep clean at the end of the project. TLDR Version: This company is maybe ok for basic / easy installs, but if there is any issue that requires more than the initial install, this company lacks the skills, got frustrated when we wouldn't pay our full balance even though unit didn't work, and then went on a trip and never called us back. We asked for warranty call 2 years later when the system was having an issue (we bought the extended and labor warranty), and he wanted to charge over $250 to just come out and do a diagnostic. Very shady. I would highly suggest to go elsewhere Initial install was a York AC/furnace set in 2019. That went simple enough although we kept having issue with the Sensi thermostat, they kept coming out to replace. We then asked Jon to install a dehumidifier. He did not hook up the ducts per the manufacturer install instructions. Instead, he went with what a buddy told him was better. When it was not working well at all, we asked him to work with the manufacturer and figure it out. This is when his lack of knowledge came out and the first signs of him not wanting to support any longer. The manufacturer suggested to do a drip test over night to see if it was working efficiently. He really didn't want to do it as that required work. After other failed experiments that couldn't pin point the issue, I convinced him to come back out and we did the drip test. We replaced the unit and it still wasn't working to full potential. We asked him to please hook it up the way the manufacturer says to do so, and he wanted an extra $1500 to change work we didn't even ask him to do in the first place. Without fixing it, he demanded the rest of his money for the initial install be paid before working any further or he wouldn't support. I was furious but we had no choice to pay. He came out and changed the duct work, which he just laid the duct over loosely where we go up into the attic. So, there would be no way we could go up in the attic in the future without hitting the duct. But that was not his concern. It was going to be hard work to hang the duct properly and he didn't want to do that work. He could care less anymore. Instead of following up to make sure the dehumidifier was working properly, he told us he was going on vacation and would call us when he got back to check on it. He never called and we never heard from him since. He ran since we gave him his money. We ended up paying someone else to come out and fix the ductwork so we could walk in the attic again. With our recent humidity rise in the house, we called an independent AC person because we knew we couldn't trust Jon anymore. They stated an issue with the control board and suggested to go through the York Service dealer on our comfort plan, which was Jon (Austin Star Services). Calling Jon and asking to come out for a possible warranty repair, he said "Yeah, but it is $250 for me to just come out." I asked why are you charging so much to come out? Most companies may have like a $90 diagnostic fee? He responded, "I just know it is going to be more of a deep dive diagnostic and I have will have to get on the phone with York. So just to get me out there is $250". This is very shady and he obviously jacked up the price. We will be calling York to inquire on this business practice. You have been warned. FYI I gave Jon plenty of chances to do right. I held off on doing this review because I just felt like letting it go. But after he wanted to inflate the price to come out for a warranty call, this how now pushed me over the edge and everyone should be aware. read more

Highly recommended for anything HVAC. Honest. Passionate. Tranparent. Call Austin Star. To preface this review, I am writing near 6 months after Austin Star has been to our home and installed our new Heating/AC. I am sure John has wondered why I've never written a review, but I wanted to be comprehensive in order to provide Austin Star good feedback and inform potential customers. We were referred to Austin Star via our home warranty company in August '17 when our A/C system was no longer cooling for us (it was cooling, just terrible at it). It was hot. 82 and humid. John came out and inspected our machine, informed us that we were looking at +/- $800.00 in maintenance and repairs, but could not guarantee how long it would run. He showed me exactly what he was referring to, concerning our coils, shape of the machine, etc...Our system was a Trane that was installed c.1989. It looked to not have been maintained much over its lifespan, and as new homeowners neglected maintenance when we took ownership. John gave us the bad news and offered us alternatives for maintenance (cheaper solutions, etc...), but said we'd probably be better off replacing the system in regard to comfort and savings. We sat at the table as he described the shape of our A/C system. He went over cost savings charts, technical readouts, etc...and explained his process for installs. It was a ton of detailed technical, operations process, compliance, and code information - but he didn't pressure us. He explained how he could do a before/after performance test to show us in hard data how our cooling and heating would be improved. As a data person, I was totally down with that. We paid our service call fee and he left us paperwork and options for doing our research. I can't remember how long he was at our home inspecting and discussing, but it was easily upwards of three hours. We had another local A/C company come out to get a second opinion. Their tech spent 20 minutes total inspecting our AC and furnace, but didn't inspect our outside unit the same way John did. He didn't have the same thorough approach and frankly felt like he was 'phoning it in' in comparison to John. Fired. We did some more research and called Austin Star to come out. The scheduling was easy and they worked with my schedule. Within a week we had a new A/C and furnace installed. John did a before readout of duct pressure and air delivery and we found that after including leakage, we were operating at 12% of our systems capacity. This was great as it would give us a benchmark for performance on our new system (as well as factoring in compliance standards for COA and Energy Star). We decided to get a beefier system and upgrade all our duct work, as well has have new intakes and vents installed in our home. We were able to customize how much air was going into each room (more A/C in the kitchen, for instance), as well. We had to finance via COA in order to get the Energy Star rating, but it was worth it. Overall, we got a brand new system and duct work all financed for less than $7500k. We also got a new Nest thermostat which allows us to program and adjust our climate via smartphone, as well as provide hourly, daily, and weekly performance data sets to inform us how our system is working and saving us money. John was fantastic; explained every single detail about the work and why he was doing it. He and Maria were transparent about scheduling and warned us about possible changes, though there were never any that were a problem. John is passionate about his work. He said he was focused on doing the job better than required. John and Maria helped us with all the paperwork for COA and got us all our paperwork both in PDF and paper form. 2 weeks after our A/C was installed it stopped working. We called John and he was out that day to inspect. He found the problem but had to order the part but he loaned us a portable A/C unit so we could stay cool. The next day he had the part, swapped it, and our A/C was back up in no time. No charge for the service call, the part, or the portable A/C. Fantastic communication and dedication to great service. We are paying less than half of what we were prior to our new system install. Our energy savings pays for the financing and then some. I hope John stays in business a long time because I don't trust any one else now. The whole process was great and we feel terribly lucky to have come into contact with Austin Star. Rick just left my home and I cannot say enough good things about my experience. Here's the story: August in Austin, TX. AC goes out. NOT. FUN. I have a home warranty so I call and get the claim process started. This company is booked because I NEEDED next day service. I was not willing to wait two days in this heat (I have four animals as well as two humans in the home). I will admit, I was a little nervous about the mixed Yelp reviews, but wasn't willing to wait an extra day. This is a small, locally owned company. Maria called me first thing in the morning to let me know what number I was in the service queue. She was up front that I was the last call and it would be later in the day. She was understanding when I called a few times to status and kept me informed. Rick came out and let me watch everything he did. He is big on homeowner education and was more than happy to help me understand everything that happened. I admit, I didn't know about the annual maintenance on your HVAC systems. Maybe I'm the only dumbass out there, but this is my first home and I didn't know what I didn't know. He was patient and didn't make me feel like an idiot. Due to my fault on not maintaining the system, my warranty wouldn't cover the cleaning. In addition, the capacitor needed replacing but the approval didn't come back in a timely manner. Knowing that it was hot and we had suffering animals, I authorized him to do the work and I cut a check. He finished the job quickly and sweet, cold air is blowing in my home. Moments after he left, I got a call from the warranty company that I was approved for the capacitor and should not have paid for it. Simultaneously, my husband got a call on his cell from John, the owner, that the approval came in and he would be by the next day to cut us a check for the cost. This honesty goes a LONG way. Within an hour or so, I have lovely, refrigerated air flowing through my home. Rick also checked our furnace and showed us some glaring problems. And even I could see the issues - he wasn't swindling me. He signed us up for a fall maintenance for the furnace issue and I will definitely be using this company to maintain my furnace before I die of carbon monoxide poisoning. He even took pics of the issues so I could see it and submit to my warranty company. They are about prevention and educating people. They are a local company and I like supporting the local economy. I don't know if there is anything scarier than you're A/C going out during peak summer in Texas. My husband and I started to panic as our 18-year old system started dying. We called out 3 different companies to bid replacing the system, including Austin Star Services. Our neighbor, an energy auditor, suggested Austin Star Services to us and we could not have been luckier! First company comes out and the guy doesn't even go up into the attic, just gives us a bid to replace A/C unit. Second company looked everything over, gives us a bid to replace A/C unit and points out some issues we might face over time with our system. Then Jon comes out to bid. He took a long look at the system, the duct work in the attic, everything. He took the time to sit down with me and talk about the entire system, the issues (many brought up by previous company) and drew out how these were impacting our house. He never talked down to me and actually stopped himself from just bidding the A/C unit. See our ducts were sized for a 2-ton unit while our house had a 4-ton A/C! On top of that we had a giant sun room that wasn't even on the system. It caused all sorts of problems with our heating and cooling of the house, but due to how it was built onto the house we originally thought it couldn't be added to the system. So, out of 3 companies only Jon took the time to bid out a full system replace, with new duct work and everything. Instead of putting a Band-Aid on things and hoping it lasted, he saw we needed to overhaul everything and made a point to take the risk and bid the big project. Needless to say, my husband and I had a hard time as we faced what to do. It became obvious to use that spending more money in this situation would actually make a huge difference with our house. So we did it. Austin Star Services assisted us in every step of the process, making it as painless as possible to get the financing together and schedule the work. And then Jon and his crew came out and blew us away every single day. Jon is a talker, which is really great when dealing with someone working on your home. Every day he'd tell us what got done, what was left and what they would be working on the next day. Jon always made certain our comfort was a priority. And he was never timid about explaining things in detail (my husband loved this). Every single member of his crew was super nice, very respectful of our home and incredibly hard working. These guys were in my attic when the temps were above 100! They replaced our ducts, put a top-of-the-line York system into my house, raised the A/C into the attic, added insulation, and new vents--basically EVERYTHING is new. They even installed radiant barrier in the attic. I know they did more than that as we got the full overhaul on our house, but it would be nearly impossible to list it all. Honestly, they went above and beyond on so many things because Jon is the type of guy that cares about his customers. My old A/C was loud to the point we would have to turn up the volume on the TV every time it started blowing. Now, I couldn't even tell you when the system is running because it's silent and the vents don't blow directly on me. Instead, our house is comfortable and quiet. It's scary to face spending "replace your whole A/C system and ducts" type of money, but I have never had a company make me feel better throughout the entire process than Austin Star Services. I have been working with Jon and Austin Star Services on several projects in the last few months and so happy I found an HVAC company that I can trust to send over to my clients homes. Almost all HVAC companies can work on and troubleshoot the mechanical aspects of the HVAC system but only a few understand how the mechanical, duct system and the home as a whole work together to create a comfortable, healthy and energy efficient home. The few times I have seen him interact with my clients and friends he has worked diligently to explain the entire process to a T and take the time to do the testing needed to prove what he recommends will actually help the home. Very disappointed with John and his company. Our AC was not cooking well, so we called our home warranty people. Took about 3 days before john (the owner) showed up to check out our AC. Arrived late (no big deal), and looked at our AC outside and the attic. Was told that in order to asses the problem and fix the AC, we need two tests. A Manual J and an Ecad. These tests were a total of about $900. Asked and begged to see what could be done to get the house cooler and he couldn't do anything without these tests. Did recommend to call the company who installed the AC and see if they would be willing to provide. John knew his stuff and to his credit, wants to do things the right way, and perfect. However, at the same time when its 95 degrees and two kids, you should find a way to help. John was here about 45 min, the bulk of the time was him trying to sell us the tests. Finally, he left and I called an AC guy we have used and is very honest. He came by, and within 5 minutes he said he knew a huge reason the AC wasn't working... It was the AC filters. He pulled them, and showed them to us. (We just bought our home in January, so didn't think about that). We bought new filters and the AC is working much much better and the house is cool. I am extremely disappointed in the warranty folks for sending me this joker, and in John for failing to look at filters, or maybe he did and just wanted to sell a test. Big thumbs down! read more

I had a really great experience. Austin Star Services was originally sent to my home by my home warranty to deal with a clogged AC drain pipe. That was fixed very quickly and without any issues. However, I was shown in great details with pictures and video how my AC needed a lot of cleaning. It was clear that it needed cleaning, and I was given an immediate quote/estimate. I briefly shopped around, and their price was good. The team came out the following Friday, and, once again, had pictures and videos showing the before and after. All of the pressure measurements (I think that's what they were) were explained to me, and the ideal range beforehand. By the end, they were in that ideal range, and the AC is running like an absolute champ. They threw in a drain back-up kill switch so the original issue would not happen again. I'd have called these guys first to do the water restoration caused by the leak if I'd known of them. read more

He performed comprehensive diagnostics and provided us photos to explain what was happening with our air handler unit, which is located in the attic. We were confident that Jon correctly diagnosed the problem, and inherently trusted him and his expertise. Unlike some other contractors, Austin Star sells and installs multiple brands of equipment, rather than just push one brand. Austin Star's pricing is competitive. These guys are great. I got their name from a well known appliance store in town. I needed a new vent hood installed with new ducting that had to go out to my garage, up through my attic and out a side wall. John came out quickly to give a quote and discussed several options to make sure the project was functional and economical. I was not sure of the best person to call for this so I was happy when I found out he had done this many times and knew all that was involved. John decided how to lay out the vent lines to make sure to have the best air flow I was emailed an estimate the next day. It was very reasonable. I was sooooo afraid that we would end up paying out the *ss since we were in a vulnerable state (ac had been out for 2 days in mid July!!) but I felt very good about what he told us we needed. He offered to do some testing on the unit and, even then, anything done might or might not have worked. Knowing that the unit was original with the house (1988) we decided to go ahead and replace it. He was 4 hours late showing up then gave me an astronomical quote that when I started questioning and asking about he got defensive. Rick and John have been super helpful in getting our A/C and heating systems maintained and up to date! Who knows how old all our systems are; they came with the house! These guys came right out and checked everything for efficiency leaks and all those other HVAC words. Turned out, our AC was not running efficiently, not because of poor maintenance, but because of old and inefficient ductwork. They fixed us right up for a VERY reasonable cost! Austin Star Services came out yesterday to install a new A/C. I was really impressed with the hard work and cleanliness of the 4 man crew that came to do the work. They were polite and professional. They knocked out the install in about 3 hours despite my constant interruptions. I work from home so I spent allot of time watching them do the work. I had allot of questions for them and I literally stood over their shoulders as they installed the "coil". Later, a supervisor showed up at my house. He was there to monitor and test the system when it was turned on. He inspected the new system, took readings, and shared the results with me. He explained that my readings fell into average results and what was needed to improve them. He didn't pressure me or push any urgent fixes, but to the contrary advised me to wait until winter to make any changes (regardless of who does the work) for non-peak rates. When it came down to the bill, I was worried that the quote I got was going to increase for "unforeseen" reasons, as it always seems to be the case, but the install went perfectly and I actually came out under the quoted amount. Before they left, the supervisor "John", showed me how to maintain the system and answered all my questions. He was a very knowledgeable guy and very patient. I plan on calling them in the winter to have some venting work done in the kitchen... at non-peak rates of course! read more

John was very knowledgable and professional! He had our a/c unit working in less than one hour. Reasonably priced and highly recommended.

Bad experience. They tried to scam us saying the unit was not maintained and the home warranty would not pay due to lack of maintenance. I got tired of listening to it to and walked away. The technician then had the supervisor call me. I am pretty sure it was John. He said that the warranty company would not recognize any maintenance done by any one but a licensed contractor, to which I replied "tough sh**, it is clean." He first had told me he would make the repair, but to expect the home warranty company to deny the claim unless I could produce receipts from a licensed contractor within the last year. But, since I used that "cuss word" with him, he refused to talk to me any more due to my abusive language. He apparently directed the technician to disconnect wires and leave without fixing, and without even asking for any money. It was important for us to get the work done because we had closing on the house scheduled for the next day. The next day another service company was sent by the home warranty company. They said the unit was nearly pristine. It took him 15 minutes to replace the capacitor and he charged us only the $60 that we should have owed. read more

We purchased our house not realizing how bad the duct work in the attic was designed and how old the condenser outside was. As the weather changed....we wondered why our heating and AC wasn't warming/cooling the house properly. We called out multiple HVAC companies and finally found Jon and after a thorough check of everything, he gave us the results....poor duct design and undersized condenser and barely any insulation which ALL contributed to not getting the temps we needed to be comfortable in our home. He gave us options and didn't push for us to do the more expensive fix. He really worked with us on getting the results we wanted within the budget we had. We waited about a year to save up for the improvements we needed to make (and in that time, we called him a handful of times to ask his advice on this fix or that and he always took the time to answer all questions and share his knowledge) and once we were ready, we decided to have him do his thing and now every area of the home is comfortable!!! It's been amazing. We got new thermostats as well and he took the time to set it up for us and show me how to set schedules and always took the time to answer any and all questions we had. He really educated us on how our system was working and how it is working now. His service includes returning twice afterwards (winter and summer) to make sure the system is working the way we want it to work. Our experience with Jon has been top notch since Day One. Always responsive and calls back in a timely manner and shows up when he says he's going to show up. We highly recommend Jon. read more

Jon came to our house to fix our AC under an HWA claim. He was very professional and courteous, but he told us he could not fix the unit without thousands of extra dollars in repairs that were not covered under our warranty. He was the first of five different repairmen to tell us about these extra repairs. So, naturally, we thought the extra repairs were just his way of padding his bill and getting a little extra money out of us. When confronted about this, he refused to come back out to our house. Dishonest and not willing to do a simple job. Beware!!!! read more

Scammers!!!! This company was sent out by my homeowners warranty service. Jon (owner of the company) came out to our house and told me before he could work on my system I would have to buy a key for $100 to unlock the refrigerant cap on my AC compressor. Its a lock that is designed to keep people from stealing freon. This didn't sound right to me so I called another company that had been out to the house before and worked on the AC. Their technician told me that the key was part of the tools that any AC repairman would use and that John was trying to rip me off. The key he was trying to sell me can only be sold to a licensed EPA Certified Technicians and cost less than $20.00. I refused to pay it and then he asked for a $75.00 fee for coming out to the house even though he had been here less than 10 min and was trying to scam me. I refused to pay that also and kicked him out of the house. So sad that people can be so dishonest! read more

Easiest review ever. Full HVAC replacement in my home. From first contact through installation to the after-install follow-up phone call, just flawless service. Jon provided the personal attention I value and took time to educate me on the why's of equipment selection and how the system works. He has a seasoned and very professional crew, which he personally supervised during the install. They worked efficiently but it never felt like they were trying to race to get on to their next job. They took the time needed to do it right. As for price? Of course I did some checking and they were indeed the best value. Now that I've experienced their service, I think they're a GREAT value. Austin Star Services tried to charge me several hundred dollars for an AC repair, but the information I got from John, the owner apparently, didn't add up in a number of ways and when I asked further questions, his answers became even more confusing. I decided to call another company for a second opinion, and it turns out the repair John told me I needed wasn't actually an issue at all, and the other company fixed my AC for under $100. read more

Jon Esquivel was referred to us by our home owner's association after our townhome AC fan blade fell off. My daughter is living there and he told her that the whole unit had to be replaced. He mounted the fan blade back on the motor shaft for her, but said we needed to replace the whole unit (it was pretty old). I agreed to meet him there because I don't have access to the unit on the roof (he was 2 hours late - no call). I go up to inspect the unit and by coincidence, the fan blade had "fallen off" again. I asked him to re-mount it and he refused because it was too dangerous. He said it shouldn't be re-mounted because it will cause the compressor to seize up. We had to have a new fan, new motor and new capacitor to meet "code" ($500 plus tax). After about an hour of talking I finally agreed to his demands; then he changed his mind and said no and that we should really replace the unit and it would cost about $8000 plus $2000 installation fee. When I refused, he disconnected the fuses to my unit, he locked me out of the unit access and wouldn't allow me to get to my own AC unit to work on it. This is summer in Austin (100 degree temps and my daughter has two cats). It takes over a week to get the homeowner's association to give me access to my unit so I can try to slip the fan blade over the shaft. It won't go on - in fact the set screw was so far out, it had scarred the motor shaft where someone had obviously beat it off with a hammer. No way it "fell" off. I have to put it back on with a hammer. Once replaced, I put the fuses back in and it fires right up. Stay as far away from this guy as possible - do not trust anything this guy says! read more

This company was quick to respond to our need for heat in freezing temps when our home warranty company couldn't have cared less. John was very professional and fast to determine the problem. PLUS he had all the inventory on his truck to fix it on the spot and we had heat right away! I would definitely use this service again and appreciate their great customer service. read more

Do NOT use them!!! Amateurs at best! My home warranty had them come out and they misdiagnosed what was wrong. They said it was my thermostats, I went in the attic and found cold air leaking from the unit. Had another company come out. read more

Austin Star Service was sent to our home to service a busted AC condenser from our Home Warranty company. My AC service company has already given me a bid and diagnosed the problem. The technician from Austin Star Services worked on wrong unit, blew the fuse and turned off AC for downstairs of house and left without fixing it or saying good by. When I discussed the problem the company manager, he would not listen to my complaint. DONOT DO BUSINESS with AUSTIN STAR SERVICES. The Home Warranty of America then sent out a 2nd company, Air-Zone, who fixed the problem in two days replacing both inside and outside units. read more

This company does not deserve even a 1 star rating. I filed a claim with HWA and Austin Star Services has been to my home twice over the past two weeks. The first time I was told a spider tripped the breaker. The following visit, a starter kit was installed however the breaker has continued to trip. It has tripped a total of 10 times today. The technician asked me not contact my warranty company with any additional problems but to call them directly. I called them yesterday. I was assured that I would receive a return phone call either last night or first thing this morning. At 5:30 this afternoon I called them again. I spoke to Jon, the owner. He stated that he was awaiting a phone call from HWA and would call me back by 8:30pm. At 6:40 I called HWA for a status update. HWA informed me that at 6:33 this evening, Jon called for the first time stating that my breaker was continuously breaking and that he had to do further diagnostics. I called Jon numerous times. Not until I left a message stating that I was being told conflicting stories and wanted to give him an opportunity to tell me what was going on before filing a complaint did he call me back. Jon continued to state that the delay was a result of waiting on direction from HWA. When asked directly if he had called HWA and informed them that the starter kit was not properly working, he answered no. When asked directly why HWA would call him with direction if they had not been made aware there was an issue with the unit, he apologized for any "miscommunication." He further stated that HWA told him that there was nothing that could be done for me until my compressor completely failed. I called HWA, I was told that no such thing was said. In fact, I was told that a continuously tripping breaker in the Texas heat is considered an emergency under their policy. When Jon was confronted with this information and asked the name of the person he spoke to directly, he stated that he spoke to "like 7 different people about it" but doesn't remember their names. Amazingly, none of these 7 people made any documentation regarding their conversations. Save yourself the trouble and call someone else. read more

SCAM!!!! I really wish I would have read the reviews prior to my appointment through my home warranty-HWA. I feel so sorry for people that this company/John take advantage of. Our unit was leaking water in the utility closet. John looked, took pictures, and did "readings." All for show. He claimed our unit was too dirty to even diagnose, complete and utter bull****. Not sure if it's incompetence, laziness, or his desire to collect his $80 and run. Besides doing absolutely nothing but show me his fancy gadgets and read me meaningless numbers, he tried to tell us that we needed to pay over $1000 in repairs (but he didn't even know what was wrong?!!! Remember our unit was too dirty?). I'm so glad I went with my gut, but cringe at the fact that I paid this CON $80 of our hard earned money for nothing. We called another company who is actually honest, and the tech simply shot CO2 in the pipes to get the clog out, an hour later, problem solved! Really pretty easy and a common HVAC problem. Oh in case you are all wondering I asked the new teach about the cleanliness of our unit and he laughed and said it's totally fine and not bad at all. Seriously!! Not only is it not dirty beyond disagnosis, but after he removed the clog he went on to say what great shape it is in and how well it works. So basically if you want to throw your money down the drain (hah) and buy parts you don't need, Austin Star Service is it! Lesson learned, do your research people and for the love of God don't use this "company." read more
