The produce guy asked me to speak Spanish since it seemed that was what he spoke. The cashiers spoke English ianf Spanish.I was specifically looking for aji dulce peppers , and fresh ciulantro( not cilantro) . I had wanted to make an authentic Sofrita, .these peppers I'm not familiar with but trying to make an authentic Sofrita without substitutions of other available peppers. . When I went in, I grabbed one cart it was stuck in another cart, went on to another cart ... same thing. So finally wrestled a cart free and the wheels are all jacked up veering me off to the left... ugh! I asked the produce man , where I could find the aji dulce peppers and he starts pointing out every sweet pepper ( red, green, yellow) which in his defense are sweet peppers, but not the ones I was looking for). I specifically picked Fiesta because instacart had the peppers listed for Fiesta,. But they did not have them. I . Great fresh produce. Just like any other market, you need to compare prices from the regular grocery store that you use .'some prices were higher than you would find at the larger grocery chains. If there was a fiesta by me I would definitely shop produce. There was also Bakery with a small selection. I bought a pumpkin empanada. It wasn't it as sweet as the Panaderia that I go to, but maybe it was a more traditional taste without a lot of sugar.

I do recommend Fiesta becuase they have a selection of international items for your specials need…read more Also a good meat poultry are and , of course the Bakery is one of my favorite. Sweet delicious bread , cakes, bolillos etc. Also good prices. Love Fiesta

Well, it took twelve years of us living in Austin to go to this institution that's only a couple…read moremiles from our house. We came, completely on a whim (like, we were driving by and just pulled in), for lunch this past Saturday and had such fabulous time. It feels like "old Austin" has frozen in time here. The place reeks of fish (ofc!) and the whole vibe is this odd-like Margaritaville-hospital cafeteria-fish market mash up. Magically, it all somehow works. We ordered at the counter and happily sat at the table with our beers taking the whole scene in. If we're being honest, the food is just OK. The fried catfish that our daughter ordered honestly tasted like it had been refrozen and it was bland. Our fresh fish--the blackened drum and the grilled trout--were excellent, though, so that made it for it in the piscine category. As for side, there were highs and there were lows. We doubt that they make the hush puppies from scratch, but damn, they were good. We were also happy with the fried okra and the spaghetti squash that they had on special. Green beans are wet and canned, and the side salad is the usual bagged kind of stuff. Actually, they had this very unique mac-n-cheese situation that was made with spaghetti(!) and had a broiled cheese lid that we were not mad at. We're not going to pretend that this was any kind of A+ "quality seafood" situation. It's not. But there is a VIBE and we were there for it and there is a massive shark that is hanging from the ceiling wearing Mardi Gras beads. C'mon! This is the Austin we know and love! We will be back--whether to buy fish or for taco night or who knows, but we will be back. Four grateful stars.

The special of the day was delicious. It was grilled trout topped with crabmeat. Fish was cooked perfectly. The mac and cheese was creamy and hot. The fried okra was hot and fresh. The blackened catfish was perfectly seasoned. The collards were ok. The only negative is that the wine was $7 in a tiny glass. When asked about buying a bottle we were told it was $18 plus an additional $7 corkage fee. Quality is aptly named.

But there's a lot of positives here, and sometimes you can score some great deals and I love the selection here too - has everything I need. Their produce is usually very fresh here and I do find some good sales. I migrate to the back area where they have packaged fruit and sometimes can find a half off deal. I utilize the app with store coupons, and when you snip them on your phone and plug your phone number into the kiosk it will automatically deduct the coupons you clipped! Awesome sauce. I like to also migrate back to the clearance section as sometimes you can find a deal - like 99 cent cans of Pineapple Poppi soda. Well I tried one first - and it is pretty darn good - not too shabby! So I got 6. Thanksgiving I scored this awesome 3LB honey ham for $12 which was normally $30, warmed it up in the oven- wow! Way way better than ham slices you get at the deli. The staff here has always been gracious and helpful. They had accepted returns with a receipt and I usually get store credit since I shop there weekly. I love their deli with sausages - at times the can be 99 cents per for chicken and jalapeno sausages and they are fantastic. And let's not forget about their awesome sandwiches. The Italian is my favorite but only $6-7 a sandwich when they cost double or more with Austin restaurants.

We tried two kinds of ceviche and a shrimp taco. the ceviche with mango - it was good but was lacking lime and citrus flavor but overall the choices of seafood was greatly balanced with the red onion and tomato and all. 3 Amigos ceviche - this was really nicely done with the zest, citrus flavor and the combo of all i ingredients. it just happened to be a tad on the saltier side ( may have been just today's batch that had too much salt). Really enjoyed that both ceviches did come with good amount of crunchy tostada. We also tried the shrimp taco. Their house chipotle sauce on the shrimp taco was a chefs kiss and levered the flavor so well.

The seafood tower was really large and the seafood was fresh. the mango ceviche was another top favorite. It was a little different than the other ceviches since it had the fresh mango and the sushi grade tuna. The soup lacked a lot flavor it was probably our least favorite dish. The fried fish was overcooked and small for the price.

The buttered crab fingers were SO damn good we ordered another. The smoked trout dip was lovely. The shishitos were surprisingly spicy but I enjoyed that. The fried oyster slider was only fine, and I would probably skip that going forward (I think it's a Gulf oyster). But the raw East Coast oysters were delicious! Mains: i tried the lobster orrechiette ($46 on the day I was there) and one of the specials of the day, a pompano with kabocha and gailan. Both were great but I really especially loved the creamy lobster pasta. After a long week at work, it just really hit the spot. For dessert, we tried the pot du (chocolate) crème, the flourless chocolate torte, and the olive oil cake with blackberry sauce. My favorite was the pot du crème which was so smooth and decadent. The flourless chocolate torte felt a little lost under all the cream, and the olive oil cake was just a little too sweet for my tastes. But others in my group loved those ones. This place is so unassuming from the outside but so so lovely on the inside.

A Seafood Lover's Dream -- Fresh, Soulful, Unforgettable…read more If you haven't yet discovered Mongers Market + Kitchen, consider this your sign to go -- and go soon. After just one visit, it's easy for me to understand why the buzz refuses to die down. The Food: Fresh, Chef-Driven, and Exceptional Mongers lives and breathes quality seafood, and it shows in every single dish. Daily fish specials, like the superb halibut with lemon tarragon beurre blanc sauce I had today, keep the menu feeling alive and seasonal, and the creatively curated menu selections are outstanding. Every dish feels intentional, ingredient-forward, and deeply satisfying. The Atmosphere: Casual Meets Upscale The space strikes a balance that isn't easy to pull off -- unobtrusively nautical-themed and cozy without veering into kitschy territory, rustic without feeling rough around the edges. It's the kind of place that works equally well for a relaxed date night or an intimate dinner with close friends. The warm lighting, close-set tables, and unhurried pace create an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down, order another round of oysters, and stay a while. Small touches--coastal blue tinted water glasses, discreet deco lamps on the exquisitely tiled bar--further convey the establishment's understated, Austin-aligned elegance. The Service: Knowledgeable and Genuinely Attentive The staff here know their seafood, and they're happy to talk about it. Whether you're debating between the crudo and the fish special or trying to navigate the market's fresh offerings, the team brings a friendly confidence and attentiveness that elevates the whole experience. They're the kind of servers who enhance your meal rather than simply facilitate it. The Market: A Bonus Worth Celebrating One of Mongers' most charming features is its retail market component, where you can take home fresh fish and prepared items on your way out. It's a thoughtful touch that extends the experience well beyond the table and speaks to the establishment's genuine love of great seafood in all its forms. On Pricing and Happy Hour Yes, Mongers leans toward the higher end of the price spectrum -- but for the quality on the plate, it's more than justified. That said, the ample lunch menu offers a bit of a price break and their happy hour is a smart way to sample what this kitchen does best at a more accessible price point, and it's become something of a local institution in its own right. Mongers Market + Kitchen isn't just a meal -- it's an experience that lingers long after the last bite. Don't miss it.
