    Super cute.

1/31/25- Always in search of bento boxes and Japanese grocery stores- I didn't realize there are two stores- and the bigger store makes the bento boxes and delivers to this store- Took an Uber over from the hotel-.. a little too far to walk- lol.. Staff was so helpful! Went a little overboard- but that's okay- Fresh made onigiri- soba noodles and a mini chasu don- really good (had to taste test).. Snagged a salmon bento - 50% off.. So glad I stopped in!

    onigiris many flavors...

10/10 onigiri so fresh and delicious. I don't know what they put in here but I'm addicted and it's better than some onigiris I've had in Japan. They don't do soft serve at this location anymore though which is sad. They have more onigiri flavors at this location compared to the north location and they make it fresh to restock. You can also place an order.

They have so many imports from Japan! Missing your Japanese Onigiri? Matcha products? Calpico or Pocari Sweat? They have it. Didn't buy dishware while in Japan - they have it here! Want a little sweet treat? They have so many - including soft serve (certain days of the week). This little store is packed full of goodies and good finds. Staff are very friendly. If you want more fresh options from the deli counter - be sure to get here earlier in the day.

Omg, THIS PLACE IS AN ABSOLUTE GEM. I have placed myself in the fan club of Asahi Imports! There are parts of me hesitant to share this review because I want no one else to know about how awesome it is, but the other part has to brag about them to help keep business good! I stopped in here because I kept seeing repetitive Tiktok videos of folks making crispy rice and sushi (damn algorithms). I was all like, "oh I can do that." So I googled sushi grade fish in Austin and this place popped up. The fish was frozen when purchased but when it thawed, it was complete perfection (see photos). It even SMELLED like complete perfection. I felt like a true sushi master handling these filets. Truly delivered, my dish was incredible. My crispy rice didn't turn out like those on Tiktok but it was still delicious. I can't wait to go back here and buy a bunch of Japanese candy and sake!

This store closes at 6pm. They have a variety of Japanese snacks, cooking staples, desserts, Japanese sake and beer! My favorite were the seaweed snacks and the plum Onigiri!!! These sold out really fast. The store is small and the cashiers were really friendly! They also sell little tea cup sets.

The CUTEST quiet cute shop for japanese groceries and fresh baked onigiri! This shop's employees are so kind and willing to help you find whatever you need. The onigiri is freshly baked and if you go near closing time, they discount all of them! We got some onigiri, red bean filled pastries, and some drinks. I think this is a place worth checking out!

I didn't know there was another Asahi Imports here! This one looks to be a bit smaller than the other location. I like that I can buy fresh onigiri here. You can also order specific flavors in advance! They have all the Japanese convenience store staples such as ramen, seasonings, tea, and more.

Yummy gummy candy - the yuzu flavor is soooo good.

Sister store to the north Austin location on Burnet Road. The best place in Austin for authentic Japanese food, glassware, and gifts. This store has items that simply aren't available anywhere else, even at the humongous H-Mart stores. It's worth a trip just to gawk at the amazing array of awesome goods. Super staff as well. Highly recommended.

It's a small Japanese store that sells authentic Japanese snacks, groceries, gifts, and other products. Everyone there was so nice! When I checked out, the lady spoke in both Japanese and English. I thought it was rather charming. Snacks galore! I wanted to grab everything even though I couldn't tell what they were! I was able to find some good premium sakes there. Probably spent more money than I'd like. The original quest was finding mochi ice cream for a NYE party, and I found some matcha flavored ones. They tasted so yummy and authentic. Unlike some other brands, no need to wait to thaw the mochi for a few minutes, it was chewy fresh out of the freezer. I also bought a couple of onigiri's (salmon and karaage/mayo) made that morning. I was there about 20 mins after they opened. The onigiri fillings were still warm and delicious. when I got home. They also sell cute gifts such as sake sets and chopsticks. Due to the lack of Asian grocery stores in South Austin, it's a 5 out of 5 stars from me!

I opened it 3 days ago and look at mold all over the bread. Also it was all breaking apart which was a reason I could not make some veggie wraps. I bought it on 2/14 afternoon. There was a date on one exp in April and the other one did not have any date on a package. $10 for both went to trash. Sadly it's not the first time I get rotten or spoiled product. I would not recommend! Service is hit and miss . They treat Muslims better for sure. Not going to support such a business with poor customer service and poor quality.

A lot of the canned stuff, like different types of beans, isn't really any cheaper than what you'd find at places like H-E-B. Fruits and veggies looked pretty standard, but the prices were oddly higher than in regular grocery stores. They do carry some interesting sweets, and I always enjoy checking those out. Coffee, though, was more expensive compared to other international stores I've been to. What really stood out in a bad way was the attitude of the staff. No one was rude exactly, but they act like they don't really want to be there, and definitely not like they want you to be there either. Product-wise, no complaints. But the vibe from the people working there? Pretty unfriendly.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered it is actually an Asian grocery store. I was in the area and decided to stop in because I buy my green tea at Asian grocery stores. The selection is incredible, and the prices are usually much better than what you'll find at big-box grocery stores. Once inside, I quickly realized that 99 Ranch Market is much more than just a grocery store. It offers a wide variety of fresh produce, live seafood, quality meats, frozen foods, snacks, and pantry staples from across Asia. One of my favorite parts of shopping at 99 Ranch is browsing the colorful packaging. Many of the products feature bold artwork, vibrant colors, and whimsical characters that make every aisle feel like a new adventure. Also, 99 Ranch also has a food court, bakery, and tea shop. Several staff members approached me asking me if I needed help. And yes...I left with my green tea. Now that I know what 99 Ranch Market really is, when I drive by I will chuckle to myself remembering that I thought it was a nightclub.

This week's flavor was Red Bean and Matcha, and HOLY WORD-I-SHALL-NOT-SAY... this absolutely blew me out of the water. The red bean and matcha balanced each other so perfectly, and somehow tasted even better swirled together. Both cashiers were super cool too (was that Japanese I heard them speaking?). The guy with the awesome silver hair mentioned he was also from Houston, and we somehow ended up talking about how Austin's Asian scene just can't compare to how insanely diverse Houston's is. Still, it's always nice connecting over a mutual love for a great Asian environment--which Asahi definitely is. Wow--I've been here for 15 minutes, and I already have so much love for this place. And I didn't know what to expect my first visit. I thought I was going into a mini Japanese version of H Mart or something, but nope. This is very much a Japanese CONVENIENCE STORE with a little extra bonus on the side, so adjust any expectations. SIXTY PERCENT OF THE STORE IS NOODLES. Like WTF...is this a noodle headquarters? It felt unbalanced...like I had walked into the wrong store and wasn't supposed to be there. So many noodles, it scared me. I expected a variety store. Carry on. The layout is also a bit confusing for such a small space. I genuinely wasn't sure what areas were designated for customers and what areas were for employees...at one point wandering way into the back. My bad. They've got a solid selection of imported goods. Slightly pricey, but this is expected since they offer quite a few niche items you can't find everywhere. Still affordable, though. I HAPPILY grabbed some black sesame latte mix to whip up iced lattes at home as well as some black tea flavored soy milk. This is what you come to these stores for! The niche items. Now to the soft serve: Flavor-wise? Good strong black sesame flavor. Texture? Not so great. This was very icy and not creamy at all as I had hoped. The online pics were deceiving. Plus there were clumps in it that should've been blended out. However, it was refreshing and I could MAYBE see myself returning on a hot day for more if I'm close by. They only offer it on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It's good, but no need to run for this. You can walk. Lol. It scratched the itch but I'm not running back for it. All in all, not an everyday stop, but an "I'll see you when I see you" spot. Know what I mean? 3 stars.
