My favorite market. Full of fresh fish, veggies, and meats; seemingly unlimited spices, sauces, dried peppers, dried mushrooms, soup bases (fresh and dried); prepared goodies, teas, milk tea mixes; a ridiculous number of fresh and dried noodle options both seasoned and unseasoned; frozen kimbap, dumplings, bao, everything you didn't even know you wanted, you'll find. They even have alcohol, dishes, candles, other houseware supplies, and some basic American products. Prices area generally competitive, some much better than others. My main complaint is that it can be overwhelming, especially when you're trying to find one specific thing. The other issue is that so many items have mislabeled prices or none at all. This can be challenging when you're trying to stay in budget while faced with more options that you can imagine. Also, fresh prepared items don't necessarily have their ingredients listed which can be scary for less adventurous eaters. Ask yourself, how many grocery stores have two Koi ponds that double as wishing wells right out front of the entrance? Adding to the ambience are the numerous other businesses and Asian restaurants that surround it. This place reminds me of an Asian Costco, except there are no racks, everything sits on the floor in bulk. There is a small beer and wine department with an emphasis on Asian drink beverages. The fresh meat display case is very large, but it shows almost pork and chicken exclusively with some goat. There's even a larger seafood case with a huge selection of filleted, whole, and live fish. You'll also find a produce department, countless sauces, noodles, dried proteins, and Ramen. Massive Asian supermarket with lots of options for all types of Asian food. However, it's very disorganized compared to other Asian grocery stores such as H Mart and 99 ranch. Bring your own bags! Let's just get this out the way: the cashiers are rude. I've been shopping in Asian stores for years, so I already know the cashiers don't bag groceries. That's fine. But the dramatic "walk away in your face to prove a point" routine? Completely unnecessary. Sis, we got the memo. You don't have to serve me Broadway when all I came for was bok choy. Speaking of bok choy...If you can overlook the cashier theatrics, this store is actually a gem. The produce is *SUPER* super fresh and wrapped up tight in so much plastic it gave me flashbacks to how my grandma used to wrap her furniture. The prices are great, the aisles are wide, and unlike most grocery stores, it doesn't feel like a stampede of carts chasing you down (Looking at you, Trader Joe's). Ice cream is pricey, but let's be real...you're paying for flavors you won't find at H-E-B. And can we talk about the koi fish out front? Thriving. Shiny. Gorgeous. I just hope they're being taken care of and nobody's sneaking them into a shopping bag. So yes, the produce is bomb, the prices are right, the selection is wide, and parking is easy. MT Supermarket is one of the oldest Asian supermarket in Austin. At one point, I did most of my grocery shopping here. Then once 99 Ranch and HMart opened up, I stopped going due to proximity. Recently, I decided to pop in for a visit because I was in the area and am impressed by how much variety they continue to offer at this supermarket. It's a big store and will likely stock any Asian item you are looking for, whether it's asian spices or bean spouts or a wok or vietnamese pandan bean dessert..., they have quite the selection. Still my store I like to go to in order to get my ingredients I need to cook at home. Thankfully in the time I have shopped here they have not changed the aisles so much where I get lost like other national stores. I can pretty much get what I need here and even find items to try that I have never had before. I definitely have good memories with this place. I've been a long time customer of MT market. Although I never really experienced a good service here, yesterday service was unacceptable. I usually don't leave a review unless it is so bad that I want other people to be aware. As the cashier was scanning the items, I bagged them as she passed them down. When it was time for me to pay, I have already bagged most of the items. There were only a few items left that I didn't get to bag because I had to stop to pay. While I was pulling out my wallet and credit card, the cashier just stood there and didn't even help me bag the last few items. I had to finish paying and bagged the rest. When I got home, I double checked the receipt and found out she scanned an item twice. I did try to bag while also checking the screen since many of my family members have had issues with their cashiers double charging or adding random items. However, I was rushing since there was a line so I skipped the last few items to pull out my card to pay. And of course it was the very last item that she double charged me. I just want other people to be aware of this problem so make sure to double check your receipt right then and there. And take your time to make sure they ring up the right items. I have tried to help them bag and help the line move but why would I have to do that to receive an awful service/experience in return. If the owner of MT market sees this review, I just want to say that your employees are the face of your business. Pay attention to how your employees treat your customers and ensure proper training and supervision. The cashier's name was Thi My L. and you need to have a serious conversation with her. I've had the privilege of coming to MT Supermarket for over a decade now and my experience has always been so positive. I've gone on dates here. I've brought friends from out of town here. I've found produce here that I had never cooked with before and learned how to make delicious meals for my loved ones. And at the onset of the pandemic, I shopped here as often as I could. This is one of those places that is genuinely irreplaceable; if it were to ever close down, for whatever reason, the city would feel it. An international town center of goodness brought from the other side of the world. My wife and I come to this side of town to not only discover the new items that are brought to MT Supermarket, but stroll the aisles to pick up lists of our favorite Vietnamese dishes. Foods from all over South East Asia, the Philippines, Thailand and Japan and a few others grace the aisles for eastern families who loves to cook those dishes. Being from the Bay Area, I miss the warm smiles from families who have emigrated from overseas. I enjoy the familiar politenesses of older couples helping me in my selections of food and wares. In turn, helping to reach items from the top shelf that they are unable to reach. I walk away with more in my shopping bags than shopping at any other grocery stores. It pays to know! read more

I love it here. Originally we arrived here to get a steamer pot for my Mom. Coming into Austin we always went to another Asian Grocery store. I won't name it. Although I personally still love the other Asian Grocery store, MT Supermarket is a lot cheaper with the same products. It's not fancy or modern....but it has everything you can think of for Asian products. While my parents were shopping for their stuff, I found for myself Maltose to make chewy sesame seed candy and this jar of Fermented red bean paste for future Char Siu. I was so excited to find these as I heard horror stories when you buy these through Amazon. The jars are intact and clean with no opened residue. I spend a lot of time learning Chinese cooking. My goal is to learn Peking Duck before Thanksgiving. So excited to have found an Asian grocery store that I can rely on. read more

This is my very favorite Asian market in Austin. It keeps getting bigger and bigger. I love it because they have Korean, Indonesian, Japanese and lots of other items. A lot of variety and reasonable pricing. Vegetables were fresh. There were lots of space for parking. Lines were long but moved quickly.

I remember going to this supermarket frequently when my family and I used to live here a few years ago. Back then, there would be a large amount of fish swimming about in their ponds. Some were even really big! Coming back to visit, there were only a few now, and they were pretty small. I am starting to think that maybe people were taking the fish for their own ponds, or perhaps just died. MT still has the same feel as it did before; a lot of Asian products from noodles, to produce, to household items such as incenses, brooms, and bowls. I was really surprised that they had so much of the Pia Custard Hopia, but was a bit confused as to why it was in the refrigerated aisles, when at Costco they were just with other snacks and other dried goods that didn't need to be refrigerated. read more

3.5 On a whim we decided to check out this market. Being from LA you tend to miss the larger Asian markets and this one was indeed very large so that was a nice surprise. Immediately when you walk in the door you're greeted with a baked dessert section. Now, I love the mung bean and red bean desserts so this was great. I think they bake them there locally because they were still warm like they just came out of the oven. I grabbed a few. We wandered the store for quite a while going up and down each aisle. There are so many things here. I was happy to find some gluten-free noodles that I had only seen at Hmart. The only downside and the reason for a 3.5 instead of a 4 rating was the fish section had a very strong smell that was not right. Otherwise, it was a good day checking out this place. For those used to ample Asian selections in a Market this is where you want to explore! I'm from the Capital of California so I have always been used to being able to get most Asian ingredients from the MANY markets around town. Coming here to TX in 2002 was like going back in TIME!!! It was very difficult to get most dry spices, and FORGET about fresh produce! We had a little bitty market that attempted to provide as many Asian Ingredients as they could; and eventually they became our largest Asian market but when I heard about a Supermarket in Austin I HAD to check it out. I've been patronizing Mt Supermarket for about three years now; always stop here when to hit the Chinese BBQ place in the same place. I've been eating a lot more Asian veggies n a lot less meat, and especially since our daughter has been attending college in Austin I get down here once a week so I can pick up my veggies. They have all of my faves, Gailan, king oyster mushrooms, pea shoots, fresh bamboo shoots, green papaya etc... they also have a LOT of the Japanese ingredients that I like to use, every kind of noodle or rice you can imagine, many fermented and pickled foods, a wide variety of eggs, Asian baked goods, also some locally produced desserts and treats. I just love the variety of fresh goods and products MT market Carries and am SO THANKFUL to have them in the area!!! read more

It's a drive for me to get to MT Supermarket but it's worth it. I just make sure that when I make the trip I stock up On noodles, hot sauce and all the spices I need to make some great dishes. MT's has a great selection of anything you need for Asian dishes. Fresh vegetables and a really good selection of fish and meat. I almost forgot about the various soups that are available. This is one of the larger Asian supermarkets I've been to, but to be fair, I'm comparing to the ones in California since this is the first one I've visited in Austin. MT was fairly clean, but I didn't really understand how they organized their aisles. Prices seemed reasonable, but the lines were really long, despite them having a few lines open. However, if you're looking for single packets of the Buldak Hot Chicken Flavor Ramen, this is the place to go! They had so many flavors available, and it was nice to have the option try different flavors without having to purchase a larger pack. There are lots of other Asian restaurants/shops in this plaza, and it's a great one stop shop for all of your food needs. I was able to find all sorts of Thai curry, coconut milk, veggies, rice for an authentic SE asian feast. The area is loaded with cool unique eateries. They may or may not have the items you're looking for. If you're looking for some Korean things, they may not have it -- we tried looking for Soju, but they didn't have it. I usually love this amazing store but tonight was the most awful experience and I was in fear for my life & well being. Upon my arrival through the entrance at approximately 7:50pm, YOUR security guard was yelling at me to get out of the store because it's closing in 3minutes. As you all should know the store closes at 8pm. Regardless a operating business shouldn't advertise this to loyal customers and be harmful. I was literally coming in for a few last minute items for my dinner tonight so I never intended to be in the store longer than 5minutes anyways. As I'm in the last aisle grabbing my last item at 7:55pm, yet again here comes the security guard yelling and telling me to essentially leave now because the store is closed. He had his hand on his gun, foaming at the mouth and enraged. It was disgusting. I have never experienced anything so treacherous in my 22 years of living. From a business perspective I am really worried for you guys because that security guard is a liability for the store and its patrons at the end of the day. I am not sure if he is contracted or directly hired by you guys. I would definitely reconsider who you hire to maintain a "safe" environment for your establishment. Emotions should never be THAT present in that line of work. He is not a cop. He is a civilian. So if he decides to hurt someone it might result in the closing of your store for sure. read more

Have been shopping groceries and fish there for than a year now. Most products are good, I guess, but they are selling bad lychees labelling them as "fresh." The same thing happened twice - last month and today (03/09/2024). I informed the person at the checkout today. Also showed them a picture from the last time.
