One of the very few Indian grocery stores in Austin which is very well organized! The ambiance is good! Very customer friendly! The service is so cool! I visited last Sunday. We were looking for a particular Deep brand sweet lime pickle. I asked a gentleman to find it for us. He looked for it & said it's out of stock. Two days later, as I just entered the store, he reached up to me and said, "the pickle you were looking for is here! " I was pleasantly taken aback! :)) for someone to even remember what the customer is looking for. That's paying attention to detail. Well done! His name is Mr. Santosh. I hope the store owners appreciate and recognize you!! Unless you are the owner... that's cool too! :)) The vegetables are all arranged well. Very fresh. They were continually checking if there's any rotten produce to be thrown away. The namkeens were all arranged well in a full section. Aug 26, 2025 review: ---- This is one of famous Indian grocery stores for North or Central Austin. Reliable for food items. Usually organized and have decent variety of products. Their pav is usually fresh and soft. Best part once I was buying these and last at counter told me these last only 2-3 days which is very helpful and usually I've not seen this info provided by stores upfront. They also have good decoration and idols and usually you can find most of the stuff during festival celebration. Vipul kitchen is good for snacks, especially samosa. They also have small onion samosa. They do provide both green mint and red tamirand chutney with samosa. I've also done catering order for samosa and everyone loved it. It's crunchy and not so spicy. They can give you discount on bulk order and usually order is made on time. One time I placed order for 100 samosa one hour ago and they were able to manage it. I've tried vipul kitchen curry as well but didn't like it that much. read more

I usually only review restaurants on Yelp. I have a bunch of supermarkets I love - but I keep my opinions on those to myself. (Steve W. already knows I have extremely high regards for HEB.) That said, the Desi Brothers on Parmer Lane has a restaurant associated with it. Vipul Kitchen. It is take out only but it is totally reviewable. It is part and parcel of Desi Brothers. A preliminary note first on Desi Brothers as a supermarket. * * * Desi Brothers is by far my favorite Indian supermarket in Austin. When their only location was at Brodie and William Cannon, I would drive all the way down South because that was the place I wanted to shop. So I am thrilled they are now up closer to where I live. I am not a fully proficient Indian cook ... And you would NOT want to eat the Indian food that comes out of my kitchen. I do buy a lot of Indian pre-mades though. I am a sucker for Indian pickles and chutneys ... All my Indian friends tell me that they or their mother make better pickles than store-bought at home. I also buy vast amounts of irradiated pre-made Indian food in the little silver bags. Again my Indian friends look at me like a pathetic case when I tell them I love this stuff. Once again, they tell me they or their mother make better etc etc etc. But they or their mother spend four hours everyday in the kitchen. I just open up the silver bag, dump it in a bowl and eat it without even microwaving it. Tastes just fine to this boy. If you are in the market for chutneys, pickles, sauces, or premades in the little silver bags, The selection at Desi Brothers blows away the selection at any other Indian grocery store in town. For me, that makes shopping at Desi Brothers at easy call. And if you want dal, or regular beans, or produce or spices or whatever, They got all that good stuff too in a fine selection and looking fresh and good. So Desi Brothers is good shopping. * * * Now the for Yelp Part. Vipul Kitchen which is their restaurant. Vipul Kitchen is absolutely positively first rate. Indian restaurants for us Anglo people tend to serve appetizers that are nice and bland. Get your expedition pith helmet, or your Downton Abbey clothes for dinner at nine. You are now part of the Raj. Appetizers at Vipul Kitchen are markedly spicier than those made for us Anglos. Spicier means tastes better. I had a selection of such appetizers including two forms of Samosas. I loved them all. I also did a Manchurian Gobi. If you have kids who do not like cauliflower, get them an order of Manchurian Gobi. They will wolf it down and ask for more. Now, Manchurian Gobi is good everywhere. It is one of those things like chocolate pie that are never bad. The Manchurian Gobi here has cauliflower pieces that are larger than I am used to ... and the sauce is darker than I am used to. But it is still the same fine dish. I would eat three servings of it happily. The menu overall at Vipul Kitchen has little of the saag, madras or vindaloo that come from the Anglo Curry House tradition. The menu heavily looks like the dishes I get in my little silver pre-made bags, although the versions here are freshly made. Paneer in a number of sauces. Chole (chickpeas) in a number of sauces. Dal. Korma - which DOES appear on some Anglo menus. There are a lot of chaats and a lot of appetizers. I am often dubious about getting take-out when it has to sit in my car Or the delivery car Until you can get it home and eat it. Indian cuisine may be one of the few cuisines where this is not a problem. Nearly all of the items on their menu will wait happily Until you get them home and reheat them. They don't need the sauces they come with ... But the sauces are good enough for extra entertainment. * * * Overall, you can get fine take home Indian cuisine at Vipul Kitchen. And if you want to spend six hours the next day in the kitchen making authentic real deal Indian food ... They have all the ingredients you will need at Desi Brothers And some of the specialized cookware you will need to do the job right. I am dumping some of their pickle on a can of tuna fish and going for a walk in the country. read more

This is my go to Indian grocery store. Since I went to India I started cooking a lot of Indian food at home. They have everything you need from spices to any unusual Indian anything! They are all very helpful not only at finding things but even helping at recipes. I have spent hours at this supermarket chitchatting with them about food and India! I also have tried the snacks they have in the back and recently they added a pani puri cart at the entrance They do have sales on produce over the weekend. Very cheap prices! And good quality! I have been driving by this Indian supermarket every day, I decided to stop with my wife to check it out. This is the most amazing market for Indian, Pakistani groceries fresh produce, vegetables, meat and they even have hot cooked food. Anyone who's looking for a great fresh product should go visit. The amount of stuff they are able to pack into this store is astounding! Desi bros is the only place I've been able to find such a wide variety of lentils. I am a certified lentil lover and I really appreciate how many sizes each kind of lentil comes in and how many different lentils they have. They also have fresh curry leaves which are hard to find and one of my favorite ingredients. I'm a big fan of the idly batter they have in the fridge section as well. The store is very well organized and clean. The aisles are a bit cramped but if it's a choice between how much variety they have and bigger aisles I'm gonna choose the variety any day. Everyone who works here has always been very busy when we have visited, we come here a lot and it's always busy, but have been very friendly so no complaints. I haven't bought any of the ready made food here so I can't say anything about that. Overall I am a big fan of desi bros and appreciate finding all the spices, veggies, and other ingredients that I need here. read more

If you make it to this place on right day and time then it is one good place to get fresh Indian produce. Friendly staff, always helpful. The restaurant inside has some amazing samosas and puffs. I have tried other Indian grocers and prefer Desi brothers over them, solely because I never have to doubt the products here (other places not only had expired product on shelf but broken seals on packed containers). This place never has that problem. And staff always makes an effort to provide to good shopping experience and welcoming with smile and hello and remembers you to greet you at next visit. We live about 40 mins away and there are no Indian grocery stores near us. We used to live in dfw where there are great Indian stores and places to eat so milling here was a little disappointing in that regard. We found this one and were glad to find all the staples we use. They have a good selection. We buy our rice, spices, lentils etc Things that could improve- the produce- some was fresh some was not at all. They were out of a few things I was needing such as milk powder to make burfi. The little cafe counter in there has really good chai by the cup. read more

I took out a point because of the cramped check out space. There's no meat section so does not replace our normal places but definitely in our rotation for indian veggies and seasonal fruits. This location of Desi Brothers is much larger and has more variety of produce and dry goods. It's also the main kitchen for Vipuls for the freshly prepared sweets and snacks. But the service at this location is really poor. If you need help finding something, you're on your own. If you're look for spices, Ayurveda items or fresh health foods, the prices here are unbeatable. read more

It's hard for us not to stop here! Different from other stores and that is what makes it so unique. They have a large variety of ethnic food and we are always treated very well here. The staff takes care of us, answers all our questions, and offers us to try new food. Vipuls Kitchen is the only place in Austin that you will find Indian Masala Chai on a regular basis. Most places don't bother making it this way and we appreciate that they always have chai to serve. That alone brings a sense of home. We love that they remember us when we go there. They add flavor to every meal and press the sugar cane juice with lots of fresh ginger & lemon. Please go inside, read the signs, and ask questions about the food. You will love it! During the winter storm, this place was SUPER stocked up when other places weren't. Don't forget that your friendly, neighborhood Indian stores still have milk, eggs, produce, and bread! I love how organized this place is, which snacks and treats clearly labeled from many different parts of India. Definitely come by and get a lot of Indian spice mixes for different dishes - don't worry, I'm Indian, and we all use them. It's a great way to get the proportions of spices correct for a dish without having to pull out your giant metal spice dish. Oh and grab some samosas from the cafe area!!! read more

I'm giving it a 3 1/2 - the groceries are great although the prices at Desi Brothers in Houston and Dallas are more competitive. The chilli paneer was really tasty. I found the gobi Manchurian to be too chewy-not the best I've had. And finally, what is up with the styrofoam? They don't even use styrofoam containers in India because of the detrimental environmental impact, why are they making a comeback here?? Please stop using styrofoam. read more

Went to shop here, looking for a pickle spice.. came away with close to $50 worth of things I didnt even knew I needed. Found items here I never thought I could find outside of India. These guys have a whole aisle of Indian vegetables and fruits, followed by aisles of snack foods, spices, bags of grains, and even India specific cooking utensils, not to mention a snack/dessert cafe at the end, where you can buy all sorts of warm and cold snacks to your hearts content. Completely unresponsive during COVID pandemic. They "claim" they have curb side pick up and ask you to whatsapp their number but just do not respond and leave you hanging for 3-4 days - until you give up and order from a different store. They will remain unapologetic even after that. Don't waste your time with this store trying to get a curb side pick-up. Pick any other Indian grocery store inside and you will be a 100 times better off. read more

Nice grocery store but during COVID they should offer curbside pickup. The grocer tells me there's a hefty $70 minimum for them to bring the items to the car. Otherwise you have to go into the store, which is somewhat on the messy/crowded side. "There's no rush today," he assures me... no doubt, because there's currently a stay-home order in Austin, and Desi Brothers doesn't do free curbside delivery. I will try elsewhere. read more
