In my quest for spices, I stumbled onto Hang Yang market. Really cool Korean market. I was totally fascinatinated my the packaging and writing on the products. You could literally spend hours perusing the owners of the market. It appears to have a retail and wholesale customer base. My usual spots to get kimchi and side dishes. The premade food they have at the front is pretty good too. Kimbap and japchae noodles are my favorite. They have many frozen options including some seafood. Not a lot when it comes to fresh produce and non-frozen seafood and meats. I've never seen this store super busy, but I know it is popular especially for when you don't want to drive all the way to cedar park to a large Korean supermarket. read more

We wanted to explore this market as we had driven by a few times. It's very clean and tidy. The aisles are well organized and we saw many new items we weren't aware of. They have almost everything you can ask for Korean essentials. Their pre made food is also tasty (plus, they can make party tray if you need to order big portion). The staff are very nice, although some of them don't speak English very well. It's a bit small but clean and organized. Han Yang is absolutely my favorite Asian grocery store. People are super friendly and I love all their premade foods! The kimbap and japchae are my go-to's, but I've also enjoyed the tteokboki on occasion too. It's perfect for a quick meal or packing for a picnic. Han Yang's prices are also comparable to, or better than, H Mart or Ranch 99. If it's on sale at Han Yang, then it's usually a pretty good deal. They carry a wide selection of rice (the big 10+lb bags), miso paste, seaweed, etc. I also feel like they carry higher quality products, or at least they don't have trash products.. (e.g. the dumplings are actually meat & veggie dumplings rather than wrappers filled with noodles and soy filler with MSG). I know. H Mart is so much larger and cooler looking than Han Yang, but I really love shopping at this small grocery. 1) Surprisingly, they have everything I need 99% of the time. For Korean grocery newbies, there are several major Korean food companies that produce Korean food ingredients and condiments. Below are my favorite food companies and items produced by them: -Ottogi for condiments (ketchup, mayo, curry, jjajang), sauces (bulgogi, dakgalbi), oil (toasted sesame, perilla), ramen - Pulmuone for tofu, frozen food (e.g. mandu), packaged food (e.g. naengmyeon, tteokbokki, jjajangmyeon), ramen, drinks (Sikhye Korean rice punch), Doenjang (Korean soybean paste) - Sempio for soy sauce, oil, condiments, seaweed gim, Korean style perilla leave pickles (Kketnip jorim) - Chungjungone for Doenjang, Gochujang, condiments, sauces (bulgogi, dakgalbi) There are a ton of other companies, but I like buying specific items from these 4 companies. I rarely buy Nongshim stuff (I know that people love Shin ramyun, but not my cup of tea). Surprisingly, Han Yang has it all sorted out. Even though it is probably 1/10 the size of H Mart, Han Yang market has all my favorite food items. H Mart has so many more selections, but Han Yang somehow has my favorite items and I am always satisfied with whatever I buy there. What's more exciting is that most items are almost always cheaper than H Mart, AND you can get reward points for your purchases. 2) Also, Han Yang has two corners in the back and front for housing stuff, and trust me, they get high-quality stuff. - For example, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND those Made in Korea nail clippers near the cash register. These are SO GOOD and will cut your nails like tofu. (They sell for $8~15 on Amazon, but we paid less than $3 at Han Yang). - If you see the weird-looking gardening tool called Homi, get it for 4.99! It will make your gardening life 2000% better - Made in Korea green Rice spatula hidden in the back corner. These are the best. I can't recommend it enough. Rice will not stick!!! 3) Lastly, the two owners are so nice. We really like them and want to support them. They really care to bring the best items to the store (they even sold KF94 masks back in March... ) and I want Han Yang to do well. If you have questions, then just ask them. They will give you awesome recommendations. For example, I wanted to buy some Korean Yuja cha, and I asked one of the owners to make a recommendation, and I later found out that he recommended me an award-winning Yuja cha from a small company and not a mass produced one. read more

I also came to get fresh produce and items needed to make bean sprouts soup. They also have a bonus card you can sign up for where you get a 3% reward on purchases over $20. This is my go to Korean grocery store in the area with decent prices for Korean grocery items. I buy my soysauce, sesame oil, and rice vinegar here in bulk containers. Their prices are better than HMart for sauces, dried goods, premade food, and banchan items. The banchan made here are delicious and fresh. Great garlic stems! The fresh veggies are fairly fresh. Just check items since most things are prepackaged. The staff are nice. If you speak Korean, staff is even nicer, but if you don't they are helpful and speak English. read more

I LOVE Han Yang. Been going for almost 5 years now and it's way more convenient than driving up to H-Mart. They have all the essentials needed for making Korean food, along with kitchen tools like mandolines and at-home K-BBQ setups (butane stove + hot plate). I buy their Mak Kimchi regularly and I prefer a lot of their banchan over H-Mart's, which taste sweeter. They sell cooked food across from the register which has a variety of AMAZING, homemade rice cakes and food. I recommend the jokbal (pig trotters) which can look intimidating but you won't regret it. I love buying their kimbap, japchae, tteokbokki, and soondae to share with friends. They also have plenty of chips and drinks you won't find at non-Korean grocery stores. 99 Ranch and H-Mart can get overwhelming to me because of how big and crowded they can get. The 3 Korean employees I see regularly are typical to other Korean-owned businesses I've been to - not chatty but will help if asked. Also: They sell makgeolli, plum wine, and Korean beer. Pure Korean soju is not sold here nor at H-Mart as it's hard liquor. But they both sell a soju that was modified for the US market that's also sold in a green bottle that people mistake for soju ""/"soo rok". However the liquor store a few steps away conveniently sells it. read more

Just happened across this place one day while driving around. Decent Korean market. Is actually MUCH larger than it looks from storefront. Goes waaaay back. Not the largest Asian market in Austin, but will certainly suffice. And, Han Yang doesn't have that overwhelming - sometimes unwelcoming - odd smell that some Asian markets have. Tons of dried/pantry goods. All of the standard Korean staples available (including Kimchi Base at a substantially lower price than at Hana). Adequate meat market with competitive prices. A large refrigerated section with all yummy things fermented! Very limited fresh produce and fish selection kind of meh, but you can make do.Being forced to be extra creative in the kitchen bu substituting items can sometimes lead to great things - just remember to write down the new "recipe" if you'd like to repeat and are a dope like me that can't remember to save my life because I don't really use "recipes." ;-) 1 extra star for the super duper friendly staff! Very helpful and didn't make fun of my attempts to say the two things I "think" I know how to say in Korean - "Hello, how are you?" and "Thank you!" So, kamsahamnida Han Yang and I will return. We all know that there is hmart, which has a wider selection than the rest of the korean grocery stores in the area but I have a soft spot for smaller businesses and I try my best to support Han Yang Market. Surprisingly they have everything I need despite the selection being smaller than Hmart. I come here to get my pul-moo-won (korean health brand) noodles, spicy rice cake, jja jang myun, etc. The prices are lower for 95% of the products than Hmart (minus the Hmart promotional items) which makes me scratch my head understanding how the owner can undercut Hmart. But nevertheless it's a win win situation because I get to support local businesses and at the same time get better pricing. On an important note, if you haven't already, ask for their rewards card. I believe you get 2% of your purchases back and can redeem it when you accumulate 5$. It's a small yet great incentive to shop here! read more

Small store, but I've always been able to find everything I need! I love making Maangchi's recipes, and I've been able to find everything I need here, including the more "exotic" ingredients. I love buying frozen meat here for making KBBQ at home. Sometimes the prices are better than the ones at 99 Ranch. You can make a point card where you get 3% for every purchase over $20, and you can redeem it for cash once the balance is over $5. They have this amazing cereal soymilk in the boxed drinks section next to the frozen meat section. I think it's seasonal though because I haven't seen it in awhile. Their fresh foods are delicious too! I've tried the kimbap, jokbal, and jeon and all of them have been really good. They also have rice cake, ddukbokki, japchae, etc. They always have a lot of items on sale. Plenty of parking. read more

Just moved to Texas and stopped at the hmart for my Korean food fix, and was a little disappointed. Then found this market on yelp and decided to check it out today. I'm glad I did... small store, but had what I needed and the brands/sizes of the products that I wanted. They had soju, ricecakes, lots banchan & kimchi (the buchu (chive) kimchi was really good), products were not expired, and the service was very nice. Super nice folks working there. Auntie at Austin again :) This is a small market that's packed with daily necessary inventory. More already-made banchan dishes and meals than Hana World Market. Kinda not fair to compare really since Hana World caters to other backgrounds too. Han Yang has way more Korean eats so this'll be our go-to market from now on. They're also not afraid to add some tasty heat in their side dishes if need be. The key phrase is "tasty heat"....not straight up hot. Nobody benefits from that. Check expiration date! Several of their soymilk products and other beverages are being sold past expiration date. Learned it hard way after buying multiple packs of soymilk and beverages. I've been avoiding going here after realizing how several of the products I bought from Han Yang Market was past expiration date. However, I had several experiences of finding mold on Hana World Market's (another Korean market around Austin, located in pflugerville) premade food (and they are not much better on expiration date as well). Between Han Yang Market and Hana World Market, I'd recommend Han Yang Market. Still, I plan on making extra drive to go to Hmart (where I have yet to have any bad experiences though Hmart's premade food are usually much more expensive than Han Yang Market or Hana World Market). Two stars because the guys at the cashier is always nice. Also, some of the premade food here is really good and really good price. read more

They reluctantly offered to give me credit but this is just 5 too many times. Yes, this has happened a HANDFUL of times. I am so tired of it.
