I'm so happy we now have this store in South Austin because I always had to go all the way downtown before.

They have everyday Japanese food items,…read morespecialty ingredients, fun snacks and sweets, sake and Japanese beers, household goods, origami, unique gifts and more. I first discovered them at their Burnet Road location and was so excited when they opened a new location on Lamar. The store is compact but packed wall-to-wall with authentic Japanese groceries, snacks, drinks, and home goods you just don't find in mainstream supermarkets. The staff is polite and efficient, and the checkout process is quick even when it's busy. Parking can be a little tight depending on the time of day. I especially love ordering their freshly made bento boxes for lunch. They go pretty fast but they allow you to reserve them over the phone on place an online order. My favorite is the Ebi fry which comes with 2 fried shrimp tempura and the Aji fry with fried fish. Then bento boxes come with rice, kinpira, tamago yaki and shibazuke. They also have a lot of Japanese items including my favorite sake Hana Awaka and other fun items. If it is a speciality Japanese item, I know I can most likely find it here.

One of my absolute favorites is their onigiri rice balls--I honestly crave them. I stopped by a little after lunchtime, and there was already a sign saying they were finished taking onigiri orders for the day. I was browsing around anyway when one of the ladies kindly asked what I was looking for. I casually mentioned a few onigiri styles, and to my surprise she smiled and said they still had some left and could make them for me. That small gesture completely made my day. The kindness and warmth of the Japanese ladies working there truly stands out. You can feel the care they put into both the food and the customers. I also picked up some Japanese noodles and sweets while I was there, which made for a very delicious and comforting lunch at home. Thank you for the wonderful service and atmosphere. Keep up the great work always. Cheers

THE BLACK AND WHITE: When I say Vietnamese-style, it's only because most of the internal signage is in vietnamese. It has every asian countries ingredients from China/Korea/Vietnam to The Philippines and indonesia. You can find some really good pricing here on those staples. Fresh produce aisle is a bit limiting. Pretty big seafood area and meat. Walking to your far left side are all the kitchen toolware if you want to level up your kitchen game. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Always enjoy my time here at MT supermarket. Lots of ingredients you won't find at a 99 Ranch or H Mart.

My favorite market. Full of fresh fish, veggies, and meats; seemingly unlimited spices, sauces,…read moredried peppers, dried mushrooms, soup bases (fresh and dried); prepared goodies, teas, milk tea mixes; a ridiculous number of fresh and dried noodle options both seasoned and unseasoned; frozen kimbap, dumplings, bao, everything you didn't even know you wanted, you'll find. They even have alcohol, dishes, candles, other houseware supplies, and some basic American products. Prices area generally competitive, some much better than others. My main complaint is that it can be overwhelming, especially when you're trying to find one specific thing. The other issue is that so many items have mislabeled prices or none at all. This can be challenging when you're trying to stay in budget while faced with more options that you can imagine. Also, fresh prepared items don't necessarily have their ingredients listed which can be scary for less adventurous eaters. The store is generally easy to navigate even through some cluttered set ups.

Please avoid this place…read more They sell bunch of expired and not good stuff. I was looking for lavash/ wrap an I purchased two, one made in Turkey and one from Latvia. I opened it 3 days ago and look at mold all over the bread. Also it was all breaking apart which was a reason I could not make some veggie wraps. I bought it on 2/14 afternoon. There was a date on one exp in April and the other one did not have any date on a package. $10 for both went to trash. Sadly it's not the first time I get rotten or spoiled product. I would not recommend! Service is hit and miss . They treat Muslims better for sure. Not going to support such a business with poor customer service and poor quality.

A lot of the canned stuff, like different types of beans, isn't really any cheaper than what you'd find at places like H-E-B. Fruits and veggies looked pretty standard, but the prices were oddly higher than in regular grocery stores. They do carry some interesting sweets, and I always enjoy checking those out. Coffee, though, was more expensive compared to other international stores I've been to. What really stood out in a bad way was the attitude of the staff. No one was rude exactly, but they act like they don't really want to be there, and definitely not like they want you to be there either. Product-wise, no complaints. But the vibe from the people working there? Pretty unfriendly.

And I didn't know what to expect my first visit. I thought I was going into a mini Japanese version of H Mart or something, but nope. This is very much a Japanese CONVENIENCE STORE with a little extra bonus on the side, so adjust any expectations. SIXTY PERCENT OF THE STORE IS NOODLES. Like WTF...is this a noodle headquarters? It felt unbalanced...like I had walked into the wrong store and wasn't supposed to be there. So many noodles, it scared me. I expected a variety store. Carry on. The layout is also a bit confusing for such a small space. I genuinely wasn't sure what areas were designated for customers and what areas were for employees...at one point wandering way into the back. My bad. They've got a solid selection of imported goods. Slightly pricey, but this is expected since they offer quite a few niche items you can't find everywhere. Still affordable, though. I HAPPILY grabbed some black sesame latte mix to whip up iced lattes at home as well as some black tea flavored soy milk. This is what you come to these stores for! The niche items. Now to the soft serve: Flavor-wise? Good strong black sesame flavor. Texture? Not so great. This was very icy and not creamy at all as I had hoped. The online pics were deceiving. Plus there were clumps in it that should've been blended out. However, it was refreshing and I could MAYBE see myself returning on a hot day for more if I'm close by. They only offer it on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It's good, but no need to run for this. You can walk. Lol. It scratched the itch but I'm not running back for it. All in all, not an everyday stop, but an "I'll see you when I see you" spot. Know what I mean? 3 stars.
