I've been meaning to update this but life events intervened. Still would be zero stars if that was an option. So as suspected, the problem was the lower heating element in the hot water tank. The new plumber diagnosed it in 10 minutes, and had it fixed within the half hour. He had NEVER heard that a plumber wouldn't check the heating elements in a tank in fact he said that's what they all are supposed to do - not electricians. So I did eventually get the hot water heater tank fixed. And Austin Plumbing still kept the $150 service call charge for doing nothing, and espite (a) giving faulty information, (b) causing me to to incur a needless service charge from an electrician, and (c) apparently not knowing how to service the heating elements on a hot water heater. Needed a pinhole leak in a copper pipe soldered pronto. Was able to quickly and easily arrange for a next day appointment. The plumber showed up on time, was polite and professional, and did an efficient, thorough job for a reasonable price. Would use Austin Plumbing again, if need be. Fixed a plumbing leak in less than an hour that TWO other problems incorrectly diagnosed. I had originally believed that I needed to rip through the tile and replace the shower valve and all associated piping with the shower head. Codey was able to quickly analyze the leak and avoid doing any cutting saving me a ton of money and convenience. It is my recommendation that you use a different service. Austin plumbing charges a service call fee to come out and look at the requested work. Other plumbers do not. Fact. My experience consisted of sending photos of the work to get a quote, only to have them insist on an in person visit What they gained from seeing the same pipe in person vs in a photo apparently cost me $50. A couple of weeks ago I called Austin Plumbing (referral) and had them come out to take a look for me to see what the issue for my downstairs tub not draining was. Chesley (Technician) came out and did his thing and talked me through every step he was taking and we discovered the "root" of the problem which was just that. Roots had broken through the pipes and fortunately my HOA ( I live in a Condo) if responsible for anything from the Studs outward so they are not handling this major problem for me. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY We called and asked them to send someone out to snake our shower drain. They sent someone who poured a $20 chemical down our shower drain and was there for 10 minutes, he said fixed and charged us OVER $200!!! Of course it wasn't fixed and the shower started to flood again in a week on the dot. Called again and was told no you're going to get charged another hour minimum of $180 for them to do what you asked us to do in the first place. That is not a way to run a business. They canceled my appointment because they had a question (they now tell me I was never on the schedule). They had ALL the information for the service. Can you put a price on the enjoyment of a hot shower? Read on dear Yelper. There is something to be said for timing and circumstances lining up. It turns out that a new Plumbing company came into creation at the beginning of the year and they would end up being our greatest help during the Icepocalypse of 2021. Shout out first to my man Manuel (a.k.a Manny) for helping out a Pflugervillian who desperately needed to get the hot water working again. He was able to help us get the assistance we needed during a time when other plumbers had a 2-week waitlist. Next up was Codi. The man. The myth. The legend. He was able to diagnose the water heater's issue in a matter of moments and suggested a fix that was a simple matter of swapping one heating element for another. Even when I admitted I probably caused the issue, he just took the time to explain so I could learn vs lecturing. Hands down - I would work with Codi and the gang again. My number 1 frustration with plumbers is when they hide their pricing until you've paid a service call fee. Austin Plumbing, however, was up front about their hourly rate and doesn't try to scam you like Roto Rooter and other big name plumbers.
