tldr: Had a kitchen sink stoppage and first called another plumbing company to snake it out. After 5 days of nothing working, and over $500 in charges, they gave me a $9,000 est, to fix. Called in Lanier Plumbing, who fixed the sink in half an hour, and for half of the $500 Radiant charge. --- On the 5th day of unsuccessful tries and a $9,000 estimate to fix, I called Lanier Plumbing to have a look-see to be sure that tunneling under the house is the only recourse. The Lanier plumber, Philip, was able to snake out the sink in 30min, and charged HALF of what Radiant charged. He was knowledgeable, professional, and effectual. He was, in short, the best. On the 6th day, I dumped the other company for Lanier Plumbing. Lanier is a way more mature plumbing company, and it shows in their attitude, from the office manager on through to the plumber. I am in shock at what just happened with Lanier. They came to fix a rather expensive item on a hot water heater and left a gas leak -- a gas leak so bad that I've never smelled that much gas before. In going around to open the door to the laundry room I found that the guy used my hose for something and left it on for 3 hours and my back yard was flooded. I will never use them again -- they put my life in danger and flooded my back yard. read more

Phillip and his apprentice (young guy, can't recall name) installed a new shower fixture and kitchen faucet for us that we bought at Home Depot. They we're fast, cleaned up site really well, and charged for the hours exactly. In fact I think they shaved off 15 min or so (Lanier charges in 15 min increments). They also discovered our disposal was cracked, had the replacement on the truck, so they replaced it too in about 20 min. Laniers' cost of the disposal unit was about $25 more than Home Depot, which Phillip told me outright, and I appreciated the straightforward approach and full information. Which made it an easy call to go for the convenience of getting it done then and there. Great experience and competitive rates - I have found my new plumber! So I was very pleased with the first service from Phillip at Lanier. There was more work to do and I scheduled them to come. Supposedly they called during the week and said it would be a month because they had gotten some big jobs and that the person who was scheduling did not know what they were doing. But I didn't get a call. They just didn't bother to say they were not coming and would not be coming for a month. You might as well be dead to wait a month to repair a plumbing leak. To be honest, I have never had a contractor call and say they can not come for month after I already have an appointment. Ever. And not care about it at all when they tell you. Or try and squeeze you in. And so I won't ever be calling this poorly managed company again for something as important as plumbing. read more

It's hard to find a plumber in Austin at short notice! Lanier was the first business that was available to come out and fix a broken tap this morning at short notice. It was kind of an urgent fix as we had to turn off the hot water to the whole house because we could not stop water spewing out of the broken tap. Phil and his apprentice were great. They fixed the problem quickly, and without extorting us. Labor and parts were fairly priced and there were no surprise costs at the end. Thank you! Here's an update. We had another plumbing company come out. They removed calcium from our existing faucets and now they are working just fine. Lanier had two plumbers come out, charged me over $400, and didn't fix the problem. There are much better plumbers out there. read more

I'm so glad I called Lanier Plumbing this morning! I had a leak under the kitchen sink, emptied everything out and found water accumulated. Trusting the NextDoor and Yelp reviews, I called Lanier Plumbing this morning. The office person was efficient and kind and called a bit later to say someone would come to my house between 1 - 4pm. Shane arrived 2ish, looked under the sink and immediately began to check out my Grohe sprayer and found the problem right away. He showed me exactly where the problem was and showed me how the water was backing up from the sprayer to the faucet and down under the sink! Shane fixed the sprayer as well as he could. I need a new faucet/sprayer but can use this one now while I find a new faucet & sprayer. Thank you Lanier Plumbing and Shane for prompt and excellent assistance! Plumbers are expensive. Period. Especially good ones. Well Lanier isn't really an exception to that rule. They are an exception to the rule that plumbers are rude, late, don't explain what is going on very often. Lanier helped save a nightmare issue we had installing a water filter under our sink. They made it out the next day and were friendly, and more than happy to explain what the job was going to entail. They even gave me an estimate of time over the phone and said what all was going to take place. Not only did they do a great job they seemed happy to do it. The next time I needed them was a late night call in which I asked that they call me first thing in the morning. Guess what? They did. Rarely do service people get back in touch so fast. There trip fee is cheap and their work warrants the hourly cost. I won't use anyone else. read more

We've had two separate plumbing issues in the past 3 weeks. For the first issue - a leaking bathtub faucet - we called about 10 plumbers (seriously, 10!) that either didn't return messages or didn't have someone available to come out in a reasonable amount of time. When Lanier answered and told me they could have someone out later that day, I was thrilled. The plumber showed up exactly on time and was here for a little over an hour; surprisingly, he only charged us for an hour, the parts were cheaper than other plumbers estimated, and the service fee was lower than I was originally quoted over the phone! They made a great first impression. Then earlier this week, our toilet started leaking. Lanier was the first plumber we called, and once again, they were able to have someone come out the same afternoon, again right on time. They fixed the leak within an hour and I thought all was good, but a few minutes after the guy left, I tested it out and the flow was much less than expected. He had warned me of this as he left, but it already had a low flow before he arrived, so I thought that's what he was referring to. Unfortunately, the flow was at about 20% of what it was before he arrived and was basically unusable. I immediately called Lanier and they offered to send someone different out later that day, but I said it could wait and rescheduled for later in the week. For the third time, the guy showed up right on time (and even beat me to the house while I was out a lunch). The new guy that came thought it would be a simple fix, but after being here for about 1.5 hours investigating, replacing parts, and adjusting water pressure, he was able to get it back to what it was before the leak (although still not 100%, though that was the fault of the original plumbing design, not anything Lanier did). He also said he would get back to me with a quote to replace the whole system with a proper design, and called within an hour after leaving with the information requested. The best part though was since the first guy left it in a worse condition than when he arrived, even though he told me about the issue, and it was a mis-communication that was partially my fault, and I should have tested it before he left, they didn't charge us a penny for the second visit, neither parts nor labor! After three great experiences with them, I cannot recommend Lanier highly enough. They will be our go-to plumbers for any future plumbing needs! read more

These guys are great! After calling around to a few places I found on yelp and Nextdoor I settled on Lanier. They were the first plumber that gave me an hourly rate - I prefer this model over having someone come out to look at a job and tell me a price. If it is too high I have to make another appointment for someone to come out - I don't want to deal with that - and I had multiple issues that included troubleshooting etc. Also, they are in my neighborhood! I called them to replace a kitchen faucet that I couldn't manage on my own due to weird fittings on the old faucet - while they were here I asked them about a leak, water pressure issues and they fixed a shower that had a bad cartridge. They answered a ton of questions and patiently explained the items they were addressing. They were friendly, professional, efficient and they solved my problems. Huge shout out to Lanier Plumbing! **They literally saved us thousands of dollars and tons of trouble.** Two other companies said we were going to have to either cut into our awesome 1957 tile or uninstall and reinstall our HVAC (in a closet that backs up to the shower) to address a problem with our hot water. My husband and I just bought a house that was built in 1951. While not ancient, it needed some updates. We had some plumbing issues (leaks, pipes to replace) as well as updates (sink disposal, dishwasher) that were on our list. A friend recommended Lanier, so we called them and couldn't be happier about it. The plumber who came took the time to point out other things that we could do ourselves later (pipe insulation, vent for hot water heater), and explained everything to us in just the right amount of detail. Just tried Lanier for the first time a few days ago, upon a positive referral from a friend. The house's plumbing was backing up and things weren't looking good; we needed sevice quickly. One big bonus for Lanier? They were open before everyone else. In fact, after speaking with the man that provided the service (Phillip), he said they're usually up and going even earlier than posted. I got my call in, they said they could fit me in same day. They gave some advice of things to do in the meantime to 1. keep the house running 2. keep the problem from getting worse. That was a welcome touch. Estimated arrival around lunchtime. I received a call around noon saying they were on their way. Arrived promptly, listened to what the problem was, and then set about going to work. Didn't take too long. They got things running again. Gave some advice on things we could do to help manage the issue, given what they discovered (there's a bump somewhere in the pipes under the house... maybe from a tree root? who knows, but certainly that seemed to be the ultimate cause of things backing up... so gave some tips on things we could do to try to manage it). All in all, I'm pleased with how things went. Price was reasonable too. Happy to recommend them and use them again. read more

I purchased a house needing a lot of work and the guys at Lanier Plumbing have fixed several problems for me over the last nine months. They have always shown up on time, kept me well informed of what they've found and how they plan to fix it, and then what they finally ended up doing after they encountered problems they couldn't anticipate in the beginning. They explained how I can maintain my ancient plumbing and educated me as to potential problems I might encounter in the future and at what point I should call them. I feel like they are partners with me in the maintenance of my old but charming home. And I have to say how impressed I've been that these guys have such a great attitude about crawling on their bellies in the mud of my 13-15 inch crawlspace. I can hear them grunting and groaning as they work under there... bringing a grin to my face.... but they don't grumble about it a bit, in fact, they seem to love their job. I've actually become quite fond of the Lanier Plumbers and highly recommend them. Give Lanier, and plumber Phillip, five stars. They came out quickly, found the problem quickly, and fixed it with what appears to be good technique. He put in an accessible main cutoff valve where none existed before, and dug up and replaced the shrubs as well as could be expected. I paid less than $500 for about a half a day's work, which included some parts. Plumbing is difficult and dirty work, and it's easily done wrong and covered up, so I don't mind paying for quality workmanship. Consider the alternative. read more

Lanier has come to our rescue more than once (one time for a non-working kitchen sink, and the other for a gas leak), they respond and work quickly, and their pricing is totally fair. The staff at Lanier are friendly and professional. They have been out several times to fix plumbing in my house and I have been pleased with the service. If you have an emergency plumbing problem, they may not be able to accommodate you though. I called on a Sunday and they couldn't send anyone out, but maybe they just determined that my running toilet wasn't an emergency. read more
