Not only does coffee fuel my life, Austin Java was a lifesaver in no small way for a few days of my week. I was working in a part of town I am not familiar with and just so happened to be close to this little gem. Austin Java was my salvation when my dumb a** left home without sufficient coffee or food. The first day I ordered the Cobb salad and a mocha latte. The second day I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese taco on corn tortillas and a pumpkin spice latte (because I'm basic y'all. I've come to terms with it). Pros: the food is delicious and a generous portion so you feel like it's worth the money you paid and enough to satisfy your hunger. Well done on the yummy scale. The staff were all so friendly and nice to chat with, the restaurant and restrooms are clean. It's a great atmosphere to hang out with friends, work, or just sit and ponder life's mysteries. Whatever floats your boat. Cons: this is an unfair con because it's not a Austin Javas fault in any way. Their neighbors park big trucks in the parking lot to unload massive amounts of clothing which will block you in. Austin Java has been around for a few decades, but recently their original locations on 12th @ Lamar, and Barton Springs closed up. Now here on Manchaca Rd, near the Stassney intersection, they took over this old building, did a complete renovation and now are open for business in South Austin. The restaurant hosts a large dining area, outdoor tables and a walk up bar. You will either have a host seat you at a table for waiter service, order at the bar, or can even use their drive thru window for service. Austin Java serves breakfast items all day long. This place also has online ordering, so you can get in your order very quickly, pickup at bar or in drive thru window. You think of this place for coffee, but their menu actually has a wide variety of choices. First for breakfast you can get chicken and waffles, pancakes, typical breakfast, breakfast tacos, omelettes and eggs benedict. For lunch items, they have great salads, soups, burgers, different sandwiches and wraps. Of course they have coffee, so you can pretty much order anything you typically would at a coffee house. Service is friendly, food is cooked well, and the new location has a very fresh look to it. Plenty of parking in their lot. I think people in south Austin should be delighted this new spot opened up because there were some slim choices on where to go eat in the area. The online ordering feature I certainly will utilize to grab on the go. The menu isnt anything different than many other spots in ATX, but the food is cooked well. If all you want is coffee and a place to read, this location is great. If you want to get breakfast on the weekend, it is a worthy choice. Austin Java is one of my two go-to spots (Radix Coffee is the other - check them out!) for tasty coffee, above and beyond my normal drip coffee at home. Austin Java is also my store for beans -I brew their Morning Glory at home. However some days, you just need something special. My favorite is their honey nut latte - hot or cold, it's delicious. I also enjoy their Vietnamese iced coffee and one of their current seasonal specials - iced lavender matcha. For food, I've only had their bacon + egg + cheese and chorizo + egg + cheese breakfast tacos and those are pretty damn good. They are completely stuffed and more than enough food for breakfast on the run. All in all, a great local spot to cure your caffeine needs! read more

Let me preface this by saying I'm a fan of Austin Java. Not because I think the food is so great but because I love the atmosphere, the people and the patios you can sit on. I've always thought the food was just pretty good but never great. And that still stands for this new location. I ordered an omelette with spinach, onions and mushrooms. The onion and spinach we're not really cooked at all. The coffee was good and the sausage was good. I think of it like something you could make at home if you felt like it. So pumped about this new addition to the neighborhood. Welcome, Austin Java - hope you stick around a while! I've been here for breakfast and dinner and have been pleased with both. My first experience was dinner and we had the loaded queso then I had a club sandwich. The portions are really great for the price. I could only eat half my sandwich after chowing down on the queso. Second experience was for breakfast. I had the traditional breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, toast, and potatoes. I added black beans to the side. My husband ordered the breakfast quesadilla. It was huge! He could barely eat half. We took it to go and I love that they have compostable packaging. Our waitstaff was really pleasant both times, but I was disappointed that neither of them could describe the coffee to me. When asked if I wanted light roast or dark roast, I asked, "Can you tell me a little about the coffees?" To which they both answered that they didn't know anything more. For a place that has coffee in the name, I'd love to know more about it, especially since my stomach is sensitive to high acid coffee. Beyond bummed to hear that AJ has closed all but this location on Menchaca (lucky for me, its the one closet to my house!). It was a must for me to make sure you all know about the awesomeness that is AJ, and to come support them. Austin Java has been a staple of mine since college. It's hard to beat breakfast all day and any place that serves both coffee AND booze is a winner. It works for literally every occasion from solo coffee date with a book, date night, realtor meetup, dinner with the kiddo - and so forth. Done it all at this Austin staple. Have gone back twice now since COVID so I'll provide a recent update: Drive through (!!), Dine in, Carry Out, and Delivery via Favor all available. Breakfast day is still a thing of course, but note they are only open until 2pm - so I can't do a breakfast quesadilla (add bacon) for dinner, but it's still a favorite. I also love the chai latte (add a shot of espresso), but note you can't order this online. I have dined in twice; staff follows all precautions (as do patrons) and other than the weirdness of it all, both experiences have been the same great experience as always: bright and clean environment with delightful staff. read more

Stopped by Austin Java for this first time this morning. We were looking for a spot to get coffee & breakfast, and work on our laptops a little. The coffee (I got a mocha and my partner got a Vietnamese iced coffee) was great, the food was a pretty good, but it's not really a place to work or anything. More of a sit down breakfast restaurant for sure, but now we know! The parking is a little tricky to get into if you're turning left. We had great and friendly service. Will visit again! read more

I've become Austin Java's biggest fan lately; I think I've stopped at the Manchaca location at least 20 times in the last 30 days - no lie. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE their Iced Lavender Matcha with sub Almond Milk (always a Large with light ice) and I slowly sip it until the last drop - so delicious! I would highly recommend this venue as you are also supporting LOCAL! It's always comforting knowing I'm supporting LOCAL when I swing by. Lately I've been ordering the chorizo, egg and cheese taco but now I'm adding bacon; unbelievably tasty! My husband ordered a regular coffee and said it had a decadent flavor. Did you see the description? He said DECADENT! That says a lot. The drive thru is super convenient and the guy or gal that is working the window is always so kind and friendly. This location is very cute, and the food is decent. However, service is amazingly bad. I came here twice in the past month. The first time, service was fine, food was fine (although nothing to write home about)-I had a breakfast taco. The second time, the server refused to look at me or speak to me-he was looking at my friend and speaking to her, even after she told him I was ordering, not her. He did this repeatedly, even after redirected twice. If it matters-I am Deaf. He showed an incredible lack of willingness to talk to me or communicate with me-I don't know if it was fear, ignorance or both. Their coffee is not great at all and I was extremely underwhelmed especially since they have "Java" in their name. Their latte lacks flavor and espresso, and I tried my friend's cold brew and it was very bland. Their breakfast tacos were decent but nothing to rave about. Their restrooms are clean but they can improve on their interior design. Unfortunately, I don't see myself coming back as there are way better options in the area. read more

I actually ordered the normal one but didn't want to wait for them to correct my order. The drink I had was delicious. I did the maple cinnamon oat latte with cinnamon syrup (instead of powder). My spouse also loved the cold brew with cream and cinnamon syrup. I got the biscuits and gravy and she got the breakfast sandwich. The eggs were good and the gravy was really good but the biscuits were more a mix of like a bagel and a biscuit and a little tough. Average coffee. Average food. Poor service. Takes longer than it should when you dine in or order online. Employees are not very helpful and also seemto call into work a lot because they are constantly understaffed. You'll know they are understaffed because they will tell you multiple times as if it makes it ok. No apologies really either- just excuses. My wife and I live nearby and have been 8-10 times over the past year and a half or so. We really wanted to like this place, but I don't think we will be returning. Advice to management: Get more organized and train your staff to be more helpful and knowledgeable. Everything runs smoother when you empower your employees. read more

You'd think that if they have been "grinding since 95" the food would be excellent, however, it was not. I ordered the Salmon Benedict and a cup of coffee. Total after tip was $21.16. While the coffee was ok (it better be if you're gonna have "java" in the name), the food was below mediocre. Egg was slightly under cooked, spinach was bitter, salmon was super fishy, the english muffin was cold, and the breakfast potatoes were cardboard-esque. The atmosphere was very impersonal with televisions playing sports and random youtube clips, what seemed like lawn furniture indoors, and a staff that is more into their headset microphones than Janet Jackson. If they broke into a performance of "Control" all would be forgiven. I was so excited to try out a neighborhood place that I felt i unjustly ignored, but was left disappointed. Rude hostess and cold food. I spent $30 on food to treat myself. As a college student, that's a lot. I didn't want to spend $30 just to have food come out wrong and then talked down to and questioned if my food allergy is real. You think I ENJOY feeling terrible when I eat particular food? You think I WANT to make things more difficult for the cooks? No. It's a food allergy and I'm not going to be talked down and spend THIRTY DOLLARS on food that's going to make me sick. I had to practically beg for the hostess to make it right until eventually I had to ask for a manager and she was cool. This is the only reason why I am giving 2 stars after this experience. She empathized with me and made it right. I definitely told them on the phone no cheese or wheat. I already deal with enough stress-the last thing that I need is to spend a huge chunk of my hard earned money for cold food, a rude hostess and questioned in a snarky way. Trust me. In my younger years, I would let it slide with bladder issues, hives, rashes, lethargic and low energy. It is sad that one of my favorite places hired such a rude hostess that doesn't understand food allergies. Maybe she shouldn't work in the food industry or around people. I hope this review enlightens others that food allergies aren't just to be yuppy and spend extra money on substitutes. Lesson learned: Don't cheap out on the coffees! I usually go to Summer Moon, but it's a bit pricey. Today I was feeling adventurous and Austin Java made me deeply regret it. First I tried the dirty chai breve. TBH I knew when the barista asked if I mind whole milk that I was in trouble. The insanely hot liquid trash I received tasted like neither chai, nor coffee despite supposedly having 2 shots. Once it was cool enough to drink (about 30min later) I decided swing back by to maybe get something worthwhile. I mentioned it was too sweet and suggested that they just comp a cold brew so I could balance it out. Maybe I should have asked for a couple shots instead, but I was trying to keep it simple. Much to my dismay, the server snatched up that chai and dumped it down the drain (with somewhat of a no-soup-for-you vibe). They then drew me a cold brew so weak that I'm pretty sure there was more caffeine left in my bladder from yesterday's Summer Moon than in that cup. Hopefully something decent goes in this location soon, otherwise it seems like a real waste of real estate. read more

We came here because we thought that they were related to Café Java. They are not, at all. First off, I got eggs Benedict and breakfast potatoes. The breakfast potatoes were extremely undercooked and the eggs Benedict had no flavor. The hollandaise sauce was bland. We also got a pancake, tasted good but it was as dry as cardboard.
