I am an interior designer and have been super disappointed with Austin Granite Direct. The staff is so rude and doesn't care about their customers. They don't know how to measure properly to get a good vein match so in many jobs the veins of the stone don't match with the counter and backsplash. I was told to buy more slabs than needed which made my job very overpriced. Other companies sell the same material for cheaper so they are more expensive than others. I had extra slabs and when the delivered them they dropped them and cracked the stone so I can't even use them on another project. read more

I was looking for new counters for my kitchen and was told Austin Granite Direct does well. I visited both Austin Granite Direct locations and saw that they have a wide variety of stones and slabs to choose from. They have two locations one in north and south Austin. I went with quartzite because it was durable, low maintenance, and natural. They had a ton of quartzite slabs to choose from. I went with the Taj Mahal. The installation process for the counters were smooth. The counter guys came on time and cleaned up after. They were very careful and precise. Their measurements were very accurate. Alright well, remember how I said I'd be back? Well I did. I went to the north showroom to pick out some quartz for my bathroom. The quote came in pretty high and I mentioned my concern. The lady there said she would look into a loyalty discount and get back to me. She never did, so I then emailed her and she promised to reply the same day with an update. Here we were a week and a half later and still no reply. That's fine, I have an install scheduled today with a competitor who came in 40% less than the quote here for the exact same product. I love the kitchen they did for me, but it seems like they only like big jobs and don't care about a repeat customer. read more

Thanks to a great referral from Kimberly K, I was able to discover Austin Granite Direct. I called Jose to come over for an estimate and ideas. He was punctual, in fact he called to let me know he was running about 10 minutes late. Jose is a very easy going guy and he knew his stuff. In fact during the entire project he was extremely communicative and punctual when we met before the job started. We scheduled the job to be done on Saturday, which was exceptional since that meant that the Suze and I could be there during the entire process. It is actually alarming at the pace that these guys get at it. They weren't in the house more than three minutes before they got stuck in and the demolition of the kitchen as I knew it began. They made quick work of the old counter tops and managed not to break a single tile, which was very helpful since we needed them for the back splash. They asked me questions as we went through the process since we had some unique issues. IE, the friggin builder of our home apparently didn't own a level. We unfortunately ended up with a 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch gap under the granite which we will need to put up some trim to cover. They laid down all the slabs, sealed them up, polished them so they were shining like mirrors and made their way out. The whole project was done and dusted in about 4.5hrs. A couple of things which I really liked about AGD. Their price included a choice of built in sink. They have a tile guy who is coming out on Monday to complete the back splash for us. They will disconnect the old sink and discard it for you, however, they will not reinstall the faucets, garbage disposal and dishwasher line. We knew this going in so you will need to schedule a plumber to come out and do this for you. AGD will work with any granite yard in the greater Austin area, however they do have their own granite that you can purchase. We went this direction and probably saved a grand or so. Jose is a treat to work with. The kitchen looks Ab Fab and we couldn't be more pleased with the job that they did. I was really excited after being referred to this business by previous customers and talking with Jose. He personally reassured that my home project would be taken care of, as long as a contract was signed quickly and deposit was paid. But buyer beware, while the countertops work was quick and efficient, the manager (Jose) was quite rude, disorganized, and unscrupulous. He continuously started revising project estimates after the contract had been signed with no insight or discussion with his customers on what was changing or why. We had to terminate our contract ASAP to avoid being taking advantage of further, especially after the managing team went completely MIA. Even after multiple attempts to get in touch with Jose or his team, the contractor partially demo-ed my home and abandoned the project, leaving me with no functioning bathrooms or kitchen. Our entire experience with them was extremely disappointing, unprofessional, and disorganized and it was clear that AGD has some unethical business practices in place. After extreme bullying and slanderous emails, I would highly recommend working with a different fabricator that is much more upfront and honest with their customers. I really hate giving bad reviews, especially knowing that there are good people working at this business. I had the BEST experience with Luis and the team at Austin Granite Direct. My god I don't even know where to begin. I'm a first time home buyer and the counters in my townhome where SHOT. So I started out at home depot and fell in love with a granite sample there and got a quote at the help desk. The experience was less than stellar so I called around a few shops. Austin Granite Direct informed me that they had the same slab at pretty much the same price, but a centimeter thicker than HD! They came out, measured, and had a quote before HD even REACHED out to schedule the measure. I went to the show room to confirm the slab I wanted and they had my scheduled for install a week later. Luis came and did a final measure, took my sink and off he went. A week after the install I think one of my other contractors made a huge scratch on the counter top. Not knowing what to do or how to fix it, I called AGD for advice. They sent Luis out the next day to assess and he actually removed to scratch for me at no cost! When I'm ready to renovate the bathrooms I know who my first call will be to! read more

The initial quote we got was off by one full slab for the kitchen and we had to pay extra for the slab. One of the slabs had a manufacturing defect and Michelle gave it in writing that the slab would be replaced. They did not instead then put a hole in the slab in the name of repair and made it worse than before. To top it off Michelle already claimed the manufacturing defect and got a free slab from MSI. They obviously took all money first so horrible service and really bad experience. They stopped responding so guess we don't have learnt a hard pricey lesson not to trust this company anymore. The Yelp reviews for this place seemed to good to be true... I mean, 1/4 the price of Home Depot? Invisible seams? And except for Kimberly K., the reviewers didn't have many reviews... were they shills, or relatives of the proprietor? I don't think you can blame me for being suspicious, especially now that it looks like they are a Yelp sponsor. So the answer to the are they perfect question is... no. But, they ARE great. I'm going to focus on the negatives to balance out the other glowing reviews, but I was very happy with their work and will use them again when doing the counters in my bathrooms. I called one other independent place for an estimate before I called Austin Granite Direct. Their estimate came in around the same as Jose's. However, Jose was much better during the visit and after. He talked me through the whole process, asked questions, and explained everything really well. As an example, he said a lot of people replaced their backsplashes (I had to ask what those were) at the same time, but it wasn't necessary, they only broke tile in about 1/30 jobs, and the tiles were easy to replace if they were still in production. He did say some customers called them back to do the backsplashes afterwards and that was harder to do. (I ended up replacing my tile backsplashes with polished marble because my "decorator" said the white tile would look oldfashioned next to the granite counters). When he sent the estimate, he sent three different ones as an example of the costs for different levels of granite. The counter installation went perfectly... it took two days (necessary for undermount sink to dry), started and ended on time, and the results looked great. The backsplashes did not go as well - there was a delay getting the marble (Jose let me know ahead of time and asked if I wanted to reschedule the counter install but I said no), it took a whole weekend, and they ran out of material so they had to order more, so the backsplashes weren't completely done until almost a week after the counters were done, which was ugly but not inconvenient. (The material shortage may have been partly my fault, I made them rip out lots of the little 2"x2" squares because the corners looked broken off when they cut it, but it's not really noticeable after they've been grouted). So, to summarize the negative things: - their pricing is average or slightly higher than other independents, not 1/4 or 40% that of other places (Jose said this himself when he came to do the estimates, he must have had some disappointed Yelp readers). - their seams are not necessarily invisible... unless you get a Level 1 granite or solid black, that's impossible, the patterns won't match up. It's clear they take care to try to match things up, they did a nice job of trying to continue some red streaks across a seam boundary, but you do see a discontinuity in patterned granite. They did do a good job of minimizing seams - I only had one, which was necessary because the counter ran longer than a standard slab size. - I was also initially unhappy about their cleanup after they put in the backsplashes... although everything looked clean when I wiped my hand across the counters it came up dusty. It turns out though that marble dust is just hard to clean, it took me four tries to get the counters clean myself. Their cleanup after the counter installation and the fireplace surround installation was very good. All in all, they didn't live up to some of the unrealistic hype I saw in some of the other reviews, but they did a really good job, and they had a happy crew, so I recommend them highly. Things I learned from this experience: - The reason granite installers include sinks but not faucets in their estimates is that there are only so many sink variations, but a zillion types of faucets. I was initially surprised people didn't include (what I thought was a) $20 faucet until I went and looked at the variety (and prices!). It's worthwhile spending time looking for the perfect faucet, I found a pulldown faucet whose arch and single lever echoed the neck and wings of the swan in the stained glass above my fireplace. - If you install marble or travertine backsplashes you may end up having to replace a lot of electrical stuff. I ended up having to replace 4 sockets, 1 GFCI, 3 switches, and two motion detectors (and the wallplates for all of these) because they were pure white and stood out against the new polished marble. Also, marble (and probably travertine) is thicker than tile, so you'll probably need longer screws than come with the new wallplates (even the travertine wallplates). - You may end up replacing your cooktop as well... I wasn't going to replace any appliances just because my sink went from white porcelain to stainless steel, but I had a plain white cooktop with burners that just looked bad against the new granite, so I had to replace it with one of those black smoothtop ones. I worked with Jose to put neolith on the shower walls of my tub and am very pleased with how it turned out. I am almost finished remodeling my entire home, and can honestly say Jose and AGD was probably the hardest working and the most honest. I had many, many people in my home but I never felt any of them took as much pride in making sure I was absolutely thrilled with the end result and worked as hard as they did to make sure all the details we're in place. My wife and I recently had every bit of our floors redone with new carpet, wood, and tile in various places and dealt with various crews of dudes in the house for a few weeks. I'm a little torn here because I experienced fantastic customer service... with the exception of one massive oversight. The process was very smooth and there seemed to be plenty of communication. I picked out a nice marble slab for my kitchen. Smooth installation. With the new counters, we were very cautious. Still, a few weeks in, and it was already showing wear. I then researched online and was horrified to see that marble was a terrible choice for kitchens because of it's notorious porousness/lack of durability/poor heat resistance. Had I known this, I 100% would have chosen a different material. I expressed this to the company, and while there were willing to (unsuccessfully) attempt to repair the scratches and etches, aside from that, they just said they don't try to sway the customers decision. To me, that seems like a pretty important piece of information that should ALWAYS be a disclaimer, and I just can't imagine that I'm the first person to experience this or maybe they just simply forgot to tell me. So while, every other part of the process has been pleasant, I am left out $4k+, with a counter that appears to be lasting a matter of months, not years/decades. read more

Wow, wow, wow! These folks are great. I got more than I could have imagined and loved the experience. Trent came out and measured the three spaces I needed granite. He gave me estimates based on what we were looking at and told me about potential ways to save money like using remnants. We then went to look at the remnants available and Rebecca showed us around describing each one and helping us with ideas. At no point did we feel pressured beyond just getting more excited about potential ideas! Both Rebecca and Trent were patient and helpful. All around professionals. Once we decided on granite for two of the three projects (still thinking about the third), we were assigned a date and crew. We had Harold, Victor, and Carlos. They were so wonderful! They came out, set up quickly, were friendly and very efficient. They asked us about a few details that were very helpful - like whether we wanted the bar to extend on both sides when it met the wall. We had not thought about it, but it is such an improvement! Cutting on sight really allowed them to make it perfect and they were as friendly as could be. They didn't even mind us nervously hovering over them while they worked. We will definitely use Austin Granite Direct again. We have a third project we are working on for a counter on a cabinet in the dining room. They might be growing a little too fast... Pros Very professional work, expert installation and 5 stars on product quality. They work with all the granite suppliers in town, pick out your stone and have them do it. Cons Communication was awful. I replied to their email (to 2 employees) and left several phone messages. After I didn't get a response for a week, actually had to go there to get someone's attention. We scheduled an installation date, with a surprisingly short wait. However, the installation crew was three hours late, with no notice. Several calls and text messages later, I got a response just as I was about to give up on them and leave. Had a great experience dealing with Trent @ AGD. The quote was very reasonable and due to the amount of counter top necessary (not enough to cover with a single slab, and 2nd slab would have significant excess) we went with their selection of granite that only required you to pay for what you'd need. Scheduled a weekend to have the job completed and everything went very straightforward. I was told that I could go out and purchase tile for the back splash that I wanted replaced, so I did after Trent provided me with the square footage required. You may want to confirm that the style of tile (small glass tiles on mesh backing vs larger stone tiles) you purchase can be installed against your current structure as there were some issues reinstalling the back splash after the original was removed. The job took 2 days, 2 different crews came in - 1 for demolition and granite install, the other for the back splash installation the next day. Both did an excellent job. Trent came back a couple days later to seal the back splash. See the pictures for yourself. The seam met in the middle of the cooktop which means there's less than a foot of it. Undermount sink, like a boss. I've recommended AGD to a neighbor and friends at work without any hesitation and will be contacting them again if more work is needed. read more

Before Jose Berbel shows up at a jobsite, I always try to guess what his estimate will be for a new granite countertop, undermount sink, and travertine backsplash. EVERY time, I am wrong. Before we hired AGD, Jose gave me 4 referrals so I called all of them. They all thought he did a bang-up job...of course, that is why he uses them as referrals, right? Two of the 4 were within 15 minutes of my house, so I randomly chose one to visit. Standing in a total stranger's kitchen and surveying Jose's work, I completely lost the seams. A good granite job can be judged on several merits, but one of the easiest to critique is how well the crew knits together the slab after they have cut it for the layout. I lost the seams! Rare. Well, the way this woman was going on and on about Jose and his glorious crew, I thought that something else besides money had to have been exchanged... for her to sing his praises... like this... if you know what I mean. "Bet she has his private cell number," I think... wryly. He and his crew installed our countertop and island with 3 cm Giallo San Francisco, full bullnose edge, free undermount sink in less than 10 days from the day I first called. Since then, I have recommended him to 4 clients and friends and he has, every time, been well below what we thought he would estimate for the job. It is refreshing to be so, so wrong about his estimates, especially when it adds up to potentially thousands of dollars of savings for myself and my friends. I mean, I LOVE this sweet guy and his deliberate, thoughtful way of speaking. I had yet another rendez vous with him yesterday at a project where he was measuring templates for the granite. Jose, the owner, even came out and measured my place specifically. He's very dedicated and knows his business extremely well. He gave me advice on what would look good and what would function well for my needs. I ended up going for quartz countertops and a nice under-mount sink that's a 60/40 split. I couldn't be happier. My new kitchen looks beautiful! I also had his team install the backsplash the day after they installed the counters. (You buy the materials and pay for the labor) I simply went to Lowe's and picked up the materials for the backsplash and his crews did all of the work. I recommend them to anyone in the area. Their prices were the best I could find. Full Disclosure Note: You've got to be flexible when you're working with major upgrades. After writing this review, I read a lot of the reviews below and people were complaining about minor delays. I had a one-day delay. Jose called me ahead of time and said that the slab they had from which my counter would be cut had a very large scratch in it, but he would be able to get another one if I waited, and he wanted to know if I was okay with it. Of course I was okay with it. Ladies and gentlemen, when I'm spending thousands of dollars and purchasing something that will last decades, waiting a few days is the least inconvenient thing I can think of. Additionally, on the tile, I ran out, but that's my fault because I didn't buy enough. I just had to go pick up another few pieces. They got the job done right the first time. That's what matters. General advice for all people working for you: As in everything where you have unfamiliar people working for you, trust but verify. You set the schedule, and you make sure it fits your timelines, but call ahead of time and make sure they're tracking too. Work together with your contractors and you'll have a much better experience, no matter what you're doing. When the crews/workers come out to your house, make them feel at home at least a little bit. Give them that southern hospitality we're so well-known for. Offer them some drinks and ask if they need anything. If you're sitting around doing nothing, check in on them from time to time to make sure they're doing exactly what you want. You're paying them, so it's your right to question what they're doing. If something looks off, ask them to explain it to you. If you're not satisfied, call up the office and ask them. Not only will making them feel welcome and giving them some hospitality make them feel more comfortable, it will make you feel better, and they will do better work for you. If you're a jerk, don't expect people to like you and work hard for you. read more

I have lauded these guys on some talk threads in the past, but it's high time I finally wrote a review. I am convinced that you WILL NOT find a better value for granite or Silestone material/installation in Austin - you just won't. They are fast, they are courteous, they are clean, their work is some of the best I've ever seen, and their prices are absurd for this level of professionalism. I still go out and get other bids becuse it's the "responsible" way to do my job, but Jose gets all of our work because he's far and away the best value for our money. I seriously can't remember the last time I used any other contractor for this type of work. I just had Jose bid another job for me last week; price came in 40% below the other bids I got for the job. After looking at various local companies as well as Home Depot and Lowes, the best deal and best service was definitely AGD. Jose came out within 48 hours of our initial call for a free estimate, which was MUCH lower than his competitors. We recently purchased a new house and needed to get countertops in before Thanksgiving. AGD stepped up and Jose, the owner, squeezed us in before the holidays. This was much appreciated. Unfortunately, when it came time to "pick our slabs," they only had the two left, which were not very good quality at all - the stone is supposed to be white and grey, but these two slabs and MANY rust-orange looking splotches.... while overall they look nice and the overall service and install process was great, they quality of the stone was not. Paying $4,000 for countertops, it would have been nice to not have to settle for 2nd quality stone. That being said, I would still recommend AGD, just personally wish we had more time to get a better quality slabs... read more

We got bids from three companies and selected Austin Granite Direct to install granite countertops in our kitchen and three bathrooms - a total of six countertops. They also installed the kitchen backsplash and one tub surround in travertine tile; installed the kitchen sink and four bathroom sinks which were purchased from AGD; and set in a smooth cook-top which was purchased separately. When we looked at the total price, Austin Granite Direct's was the best - in fact, less than we thought it would be. We selected one of the four types of granite that they routinely stock which helped the price. It was a little tricky to compare the total job cost between bids because different companies included different things in their bids. With the other companies, there would have been more "additional costs" such as cost to tear out the old countertops. Jose explained up front that we would need to hire a plumber/electrician separately to install new faucets and hook up the cook-top after the granite was completed. We also had the plumber/electrician (Joel Galicia) do some other work such as install under-counter lighting, install an over-the-stove microwave, replace some outlets with GFCIs, etc. We had lots of questions about exactly what would happen during the installation and Jose answered them all with patience and thoughtfulness. No matter how well it is done, installation is pretty disruptive and it is helpful to know what to expect ahead of time. One of our kitchen counters was longer than the normal slab of granite and Jose explained that they would match two pieces of granite and seam them together. When installation day came, we were happily surprised to see a single slab being installed. Jose had searched until he found a slab that was long enough for the whole countertop. Jose explained how the installation would be done, and it went just as he said it would including the time schedule. The workers were polite and professional. Martin, the travertine installer, was a real artist with his work, and the tub surround in particular turned out just beautifully. After dealing with 2 big box services -estimators, bids with outsourced dipshits, measurer peeps and constant ass-riding, I gave up and called Austin Granite Direct. They did a fantastic job, i mean PERFECT- at 1/4 the cost of the Depot estimate, and 3 weeks sooner. The guys showed up, knocked out my old shiz, and got to cranking out my new Silestone with sink. Nutshell: These guys rock. Go on bravely and work with them! Details: We used Austin Granite Direct in our extensive remodel project. We had detailed architectural drawings for the kitchen,. A custom built kitchen island from a Jumbo slab of Silestone with curvy shapes left me uneasy about the execution. But Austin Granite Direct rose to the task. They were easy to work with and made sure, through onsite visits, that the developed templates would fit precisely on our custom built island. The curvy shape of the island was slightly refined for feel of the room on-site. Austin Granite Direct delivered the actual slab on schedule, despite having taken the template measurements one day later than originally scheduled. When the slabs arrived a couple of days later, Pedro and his experienced crew did a first class install job that left nothing more to be desired. I was a little worried about the complex island shape but their execution was perfect. They were great communicators and I was able to meet on site to inspect the created slab before installation and to guide the exact cutting of the cutout for the undermount sink and to determine the exact faucet and auxiliary cutouts in the slab. Pedro and his crew handled the whole process professionally and their work was very fast and tidy. I would definitely use them again, should I need another counter top job. This is my first time giving a review. I am delighted with my new granite kitchen makeover. Trent was our primary contact and he was very helpful when he came out to the house to discuss our countertops. He made some good recommendations and was always there for us/returning our call with additional questions. Instead of the stainless steel sink I ordered a granite double sink which looks great! The guys that came were very pleasant, wish I had the head guys name he was so cheerful he seemed to like his job and it showed. I was worried about the seam near the stove but I can't even find it now, excellent job guys! I would be willing to have anyone living in my area " south of slaughter" view their work. I also had the powder room countertop done. Maybe next year I can think about the master bath & second bathroom too I almost forgot to add an important fact. In February 2013, my wife and I began our kitchen remodel project. We got an estimate for granite from a fabricator that worked with our cabinet maker. The figures didn't seem quite right, so I began to look around. I ran accross Austin Granite Direct on Yelp and based on the many glowing reviews, I gave them a call. The reviews are correct and I am so glad that I ran across these guys! Kenny returned my call promptly, made an appointment and came out to the house to give us an estimate (on time I might add). His measurements were accurate and the price was good. He took the time to explain the whole process and the time frame for completion. After showing us his in-stock samples, he gave us the names of two granite yards that we could go to and look at their inventory for additional selection. Based on his professionalism, honest (very accurate) measurements and pricing, we gave him the order. All through the process, Kenny was patient and helpful. Twice he went to the granite yard to see if the slab we liked would be large enough to do our job. We finally selected a Level 2 granite that AGD had in their inventory, the pattern is Kasmir White. After several delays on my part (problems with the installation of cabinets) they arrived on the appointed day to install the granite. After 3.5 hours, the granite was installed, and the kitchen was cleaned up. The installation crew was just as prompt and professional as Kenny. My counter tops has one seam and I bet you can't find it. Two weeks later (more delay on my part) the backsplash was installed. Kenny returned one more time to look the job over and seal the back-splash tile. In conclusion: I wish all of my kitchen remodel project had gone as smoothly as my dealings with Kenny and AGD did. I recommend Kenny and AGD highly and I would use them again in a heartbeat. As you might expect, they are very busy and you have to be a little flexible with your time schedule.
