Went to Aurora for lunch. Overall the food was good. The ambiance was nice and the service was good. Food: for appetizer we order the fried calamari and shrimp platter. It was based in a tempura coating and it taste fresh and delicious. The Aurora hamburger was nicely cooked, was juicy and taste pretty good. But it wasn't something that I would go back for. The lentil soup was very good. Ambiance: the ambiance was nice, it was not crowded. Service: the service was great. The waitress came a few times to check how we were doing. Between her and the busser they made sure our water was filled and that our plates were retrieved once finished. I recommend Aurora to couples, friends, and families. Good spot for brunch/lunch, the reason I like this restaurant is because there's alot of outdoor seating and its beautiful. I'd suggest going here over 12 chairs, 2 hands, sunday and brooklyn if you're doing a walk-in. Brunch restaurants are usually swamped during weekend afternoons in Williamsburg, so you'll have a higher chance of getting seated at Aurora. Areas for improvement: They need more waitstaff, usually it'll be a long time before you get your order taken or get the check. What went well: The food comes out pretty quick, you can also sit at the bar, however I'd recommend sitting outside on a nice day if possible (although these seats seem to go first). What's good to get 1) Bone Marrow 2) Short Rib 3) Tagliatelle 4) Carbonara What's okay 1) French toast - does the job but there's other offerings here that are better tasting. The energy on Grand Ave is just amazing.. Dinner with my fav and this was his choice. Reservations were booked and we waited about 5-10 minutes before being seated in the inner dining room. The place was packed. The room was filled with a number of different cultures and it was cool. I did not like being seated so close to other parties but I guess you have to maximize space when you can. We tried the Octopus for appetizer which was a tease as far as portion. The papperdelle had a very odd smell and it may have been the padano and I did not like the texture of pasta.. it was hard. The steak and potatoes were delish. Unfortunately nothing really stood out regarding food. -I started with dessert of course (tiramisu) and it was tasty but not great. -charred octopus was good but under seasoned -prosciutto platter was a complete waste of money DONT NOT GET. Seemed thrown together and bland. A blind man could have made that. Def take this one off the menu or make some upgrades. -lamb chops (on special) over cooked. Ordered medrare, some came out medium and others medium well. And the meat was very very under seasoned. -squid pasta was light and airy full of flavor. Yummy for sure. My fav thing was the Negroni, made with a espresso infused gin that was absolutely wonderful. I would rate this Negroni as the best one I've ever had. Where to begin? Aurora will now and always be a treasured restaurant for me as it was where we decided to get married. We had been to eat a few times prior and loved the atmosphere and how attentive and kind the service was. This rang true 10 fold for our wedding ceremony and reception at the restaurant. We did a brunch wedding and 10/10 would recommend. We had gorgeous weather, gorgeous décor and fantastic food and drink. It went without saying that it was the best 'wedding meal' our guests have ever had. For our cocktails and wine we heard rave reviews for the Lorenzo, the Belgian beer and hazy IPA, and the white wine (pecorino). For the food - many want the recipe for the caccioe pepe, raved about the preperation of the steak & wanted to take some of the chocolate torte with the pistachio ice cream home with them. The team at Aurora was some communicative and really made for a pleasurable and stress-free wedding experience. We cannot wait to go back and celebrate our anniversary (and other excitement moments!) here for years to come! read more

My friend and I came here for brunch and the weather was lovely that day so we opted to dine in their private garden patio. Immediately it had a nice villa vibe with European accents. The wait wasn't too bad considering we arrived before the rush hour and the staff was friendly and chill. They were fine that I sat at the bar area ordering a cup of coffee as I waited for my friend to arrive. Once seated, we scanned through the menu and I ordered their steak w/ eggs. My steak was cooked a little more then requested but it was still satisfying. Throughout the meal, we did not feel rushed despite how popular the restaurant is. For appetizers, we got the whipped ricotta toast (still dreaming about this one...) and the rice balls. The rice balls were so cheesy and warm when we cut into them! Our waiter was nice enough to bring out some bread and olive oil as well once we asked. For drinks, I got their version of the Margarita which was good. However, it could've been stronger but it was not sweet which I preferred. For the main entree, i chose the special pasta with truffle and my fiancé got the squid ink seafood pasta. Made a reservation here for my bridesmaid brunch and when I called to ask a few questions, the guy who answered the phone was extremely nasty to me. Snappy, and basically told me my business didn't matter during Memorial Day weekend because they'll be having a wedding, he demanded I move my reservation to earlier When I made an inquiry to make my event extra special, he said "it's not that serious." I love, LOVE a good Italian meal. It's a treat I only allow myself to binge on rare occasions. This is the only pasta restaurant I've come back to after Carbone. We are parents so we were eating a pretty early dinner. This was around 6:00 pm so we were able to walk in without a reservation and got a very good table in their outdoor patio area. Their outdoor patio is done up very pretty, whimsical with foliage and fairy lights - I could see this being a very viable event venue if you are celebrating a special moment in your life. About 20 mins after we were seated, patrons trickled in and filled up the space. About 30 mins later, there was a waitlist. In the meanwhile, we put in an order of three pastas, a beer for my husband and a marg for me. The pastas we got were the saffron taglerini with porcini mushrooms, the spinach pappardelle and a cacio e pepe for my daughter and lord, were they all good. A good home made pasta makes me emotional, it can sometimes be the answer to all my problems and this one was exactly what I needed after a long hard week. I cannot stress enough the importance of pasta that is cooked just right and the right amount of a simple yet flavorful sauce. On my first visit 7+ years ago I came for dinner. Although nothing was awful nothing was worth writing about and waiting until I could give them another go. Dinner: We started with some fried squid. The calamari (which took me an my partner a while to understand the title listed) was lightly fried but unfortunately unevenly salted and far too salty. The flavor was also very simple, not much flavor on the batter and none on the squid. The Octopus was a just meh. Subtle flavoring seemed to be the theme here but I did enjoyed it although I with it had more flavor. As a main I went with a special, seafood risotto, again just a tad bit underwhelming. It was satisfying enough to want to finish it; later at home where I could hook it up. Fast forward- Brunch: luckily the we found a reservation on OpenTable as the restaurant was just about packed. We sat in a nicely heated and clean patio area. To warm up a bit more on this windy day I got their take on a Negroni. Which I believe I had last time I was here, and it was delicious. I do wish the mezcals smokiness was the more forward flavor but the coffee flavor was definitely welcomed. We shared a small gem salad which for me was the highlight of the meal (past and present). The pink peppercorns where such a lovely touch. Although it was warm where we sat it was unfortunate that they rushed to bring us or mains literally one second after giving us the salad. My food was cold which with everything else wrong with it didn't leave a pleasant feeling in my mouth. My partner got her bennys and loved it except for the salty tomato. I had the spinach omelette. I was going to get it whites only but I'm glad I didn't because the yolk was clearly needed in this bland dish. It was salvaged by the tomatoes my partner couldn't eat and the very mild flavored shrooms. I wish I had some of those tasty peppercorns on the table and not a random assortment of sugars. I will say this I was a bit nauseous earlier and having very subtle flavors is always welcomed when I feel as such, so that's a plus... Overall it's a lovely spot, close to the waterfront where you can take a lil stroll. The food is underwhelming but it's perfect if you aren't in the mood to be too wowed. With all that the burg has to offer this might not be top of the list but you can make your way, eventually, maybe. read more

Aurora is a standout spot in Williamsburg, with fantastic Italian food and great service to match. The prosciutto and burrata starter was phenomenal. Honestly, I would have been thrilled to have a slab of the burrata as my entire meal, it was the perfect taste and texture. For entrees, we tried two different pasta dishes - one with a bolognese, and one with a ragu. Both were fantastic, with al dente pasta and great flavors in each of the sauces. Servers were incredibly attentive and friendly, and the seating options were great - a nice indoor space, as well as a private patio and more outdoor seating in front of the restaurant. Cacio e pepe (first time trying it) tasted exactly as it should. I don't know if it was worth $18, but I would likely not come back for this again. The Bolognese was ok as well. Not much that I was impressed by. The prosciutto and burrata was also just satisfactory. I thought that the burrata was really mild tasting. Prosciutto was standard, and it came with two slices of focaccia, I think. Overall, kind of meh food in my opinion. Not sure if this is because I don't like Italian, or if there was a lot more that I was expecting out of the price that I was paying. Setup was beautiful though, and the service was good. The host was also decently unfriendly when asked where the rest of my party was seated but we'll forgive that. The food was presented beautifully and was extremely fresh and carefully prepared. I ordered the panzanella salad which was tasty but lacked mozzarella and was a little low on the crusty bread / vegetable ratio. The side of vegetables with squash and eggplant was also delicious although it was lukewarm. The wines were good, I asked for a Pinot Noir recommendation and it was brought to the table and was perfectly acceptable. I'd definitely go back, I love the outside dining. read more

Very cute spot in South Williamsburg. We came here on a Wednesday night around 10 PM and was seated right away. This place has all the options for seating-- indoor, outdoor, and even an indoor/outdoor situation in a greenhouse. VERY CUTE. Great for a date. At the time I visited they had some very tasty sounding daily specials -- the peach salad sounded very enticing but we ended up going with the Tuscan kale salad which didn't disappoint. We also got the octopus as an appetizer and the way they paired it with tangerines and hummus made the dish unbelievably delicious and unique. My friends and I ordered the cacio e pepe pasta and the squid ink pasta. Both were good and I recommend getting a side of red pepper flakes. I was even able to use the leftover kale salad to mix in with my pasta to elevate it. The cocktails are pretty good -- I recommend getting the domino if you're in the mood for a margarita but long for one without a heavy hand of sour mix. Their margaritas are skillfully made with fresh squeezed grapefruit instead. We weren't given a dessert menu (not too sure why maybe it's because we got there when they were closing in about an hour) but the table next to us was served desserts and they looked delicious. Not giving it five stars because when we tried to start by ordering our appetizers we were told that we had to order everything at once and we didn't really get an explanation as to why.
