This is a decent Mexican place conveniently located next to a driving range. The food is good, but nothing to rave about. The Fajitas are good, with an average sized portion. The Tacos el Carbon were also good, but I was left a little hungry. I went for lunch with a small group of people right around noon. It wasn't busy, I think there were a handful of other patrons, but the service was a little frustrating.. We had to ask 3 times for water, and twice for more beer. I couldn't even begin to imagine the type of person who would rate this as low as some have. First of all, I've never been disappointed by the service. The staff has always been courteous and efficient. Secondly, the atmosphere has always been suitable. Yes, Sunday is "family day", which means more little ones running around than I'd normally care for, but when my girl and I came on a Friday night, there was barely a soul here and we were doted upon without feeling intruded. The food comes out lightning quick, and it was utterly delicious. Habañero chicken burrito was spicy as hell without being incapacitating, and my girl could barely finish her soft taco after a healthy empañada. I left fat, full, and filled with anticipation for the next time I return. $2 taco Tuesdays should be reason enough for you to make your way here. Free wi-fi too. Take everyone's word for it, this place does have a cleanliness issue. It's such a shame because what a beautiful and unparalleled view. They really could make something of this location. But instead you walk in the door and don't smell yummy food, but rather some mixture of disinfectant and... something the disinfectant is trying to cover up. The floors are dirty and the whole place just feels kind of, well, icky. But that view. What a great look at the giant. That's worth a star at least. The food is entirely inauthentic. Chips were stale, salsa inedible, but our entrées were okay. Not good, not horrible, just okay. This and the fact that we came in for kids free Sunday earned another point. Our server was super friendly but not entirely attentive. Oh, and they had a magician who made balloons for the kids and that was nice too. But really, you can get so much good Mexican in the area, this place is sort of a waste. We might come again in the summer to eat on the patio with that view and to take advantage of free kid meals again, but if it weren't for those things, we wouldn't be back. I went here for lunch today after golf at sleeping giant golf course which was also a pretty bad experience. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was not so good. It had a weird smell and almost like a taste of plastic in the chicken. The tables are dirty and just overall has a gross vibe to it. I would not recommend this place to anybody ever. read more

To start with, the place has an odd smell when you walk in. Stale tortilla chips and somewhat passable salsa to start with (thank God it was free). I had "The Big E" (3 enchiladas: chicken, shredded beef & cheese). They were lukewarm and not very flavorful. The cheese enchilada seemed to be a bland cheese of some kind and it wasn't very well melted. The re-fried beans came from a can and the cheese on top wasn't melted at all. The Mexican rice was in a class by itself - tasteless. The other people in our party also stated that the food was not hot and fairly bland. So, clearly there are some issues about getting into this establishment on drinking nights. My advice is that there are other places to drink, let it slide. Otherwise after having eaten here multiple times I found the food fast to arrive and tasty. Its restaurant, I know that the refried beans and the fluffy rice are likely made many hours before and held on a hot table. I also know from fast food places that it doesn't take to long to scoop some chicken into a fajita bread and fold it and throw it into a pre-reheated oven. Had a 'Big E - three enchilada's - ordered it with green sauce and it came with yellow; not sure what cheese it was - seemed to be Velveeta with slivers of jalapeno in it. Chicken enchilada was tasteless and dry - I did not finish everything on my plate. The salsa and chips were unlimited, though. Needless to say - I was totally unimpressed. Worst service I've ever had! I am a waitress and I was trying to be nice and sympathetic to the waitress but she was very out of it and I'm pretty sure on drugs. She did not realize how many times she messed up our check and every time we explained to her what she did wrong she could not comprehend what we were saying! Wow, I really hate this place. It USED to be decent about 5 years ago, when they cared about the service their customers recieved, and the food and how it tasted. On my latest trip, I was with my sister and my best friend and we sat at the deck area. We wanted a cute lunch date with some decent margaritas, and some good food. What we got instead was some bimbo waitress who took 15 minutes just to get to the table, just to bring back water 10 minutes AFTER that. So finally we order, and she completely messed it up. My friend asked for a side of sour cream, and she never told her it costs an extra $1.00 for it!!! Then, we are sitting and waiting for 20 minnutes to get our check, were never checked up on, and I was forced to get up to ask for our bill. She then appeared like she was "put out" for having to give me my bill, and this was the manager I got my bill from! So I get the bill and we use 3 cards, split amount on each one. Then she overcharged me, and put almost the entire bill on my card, messed up my sisters, and my best firend was only charged a few bucks. I had to then tell the manager, who was then already pissed, and had to fix it, which she never did, so I was on the phoen w my bank for about an HOUR just to fix it. Horrible service, nasty food, flies all over landing in your dish, overall just disgusting and I would never spend another DIME there. read more

Every time I've been to Aunt Chilada's, I've had a problem with the service. Slow, unfriendly, denying us drink specials, and unwilling to split checks for some friends and I on a double date are just a few problems. Most of them happen in one visit. Once a waitress even complained that we didn't tip 15%! We did the math on the car ride home, and we most certainly tipped her far more generously than we should have. Unintelligent, money-hungry waitresses does not a quality dinner make. I've stopped going there because I'm tired of the dining room smelling like a college dorm party complete with piss and beer everywhere, and a table that's barely clean enough to sit on, much less eat off of. The flies really the only authentic thing about this place. Their food isn't bad, but isn't worth the price, plus it's usually cold or cooling by the time it gets to you. Very good location, with a casual vibe. Starting with chips, guac and queso really sets the tone. I prefer the namesake enchilada, but the menu is diverse enough that there is something for everyone. Would also recommend the honey mustard chicken wrap. There's a great, hand-picked selection of craft beers, as well as a sparkling Tito's pink lemonade on tap. I havent written in a review in quite some time, but after my experience at this place last night, this was the first thing on my mind when I woke up this morning...it was THAT bad! Myself and some friends met at this bar to stay somewhat local on a Saturday night. We were looking for a place to sit outside and have a few cocktails on a beautiful summer evening. We went to the patio and sat down at the bar. And here is what happened from that point on... 1. We asked a waitress for a drink and she said we had to wait for the bartender. Didn't offer to go get her or anything. We were just supposed to WAIT. It took 10 minutes for the bartender to come back to take our drink order. 2. When the staff actually did come back, the waitresses and bartender did nothing but smoke cigarettes (YES, SMOKE), eat, drink, and sit around as if they were patrons in the corner behind the bar while we all waited to order another drink. Never once paying even the slightest bit of attention to any of us! I actually had to wave at them to come over to get their attention!! 2. The bar had old half eaten food and empty drink glasses collecting flies so we decided it would be best to sit at a table. Every empty table (yes there were several, meaning more than two) was covered in food and drink that had been left by earlier dinner guests. (They had been sitting that way since we arrived btw!) I had the nerve to actually ask the bartender if we could sit at the table... meaning put out your cigarette butt and do your job.... she said "Yeah but we close at 11." and turned around to continue smoking and chatting with her other waitress friends. It was 10:30. 4. Feeling appalled we finished our drinks and walked inside hoping to perhaps get some better service... when I went to order a drink, I was stopped mid-sentence and told "We're closed!" It was ten minutes before 11. I am only giving this place one star because yelp won't let you give Zero stars. If I were the owner or manager, I would be mortified to be associated with this place. This is what I have told all of my friends about this "Mexican" restaurant: This place is serving you Taco Bell at inflated prices in a restaurant setting. Maybe I'm spoiled because I came from Tucson, AZ...but this is not Mexican food. My husband ordered a chimichanga and nothing in it was seasoned almost at all! And on the menu it said had cheese on top...they poured like a vat of NACHO CHEESE on it! Like Taco Bell nacho cheese. So gross. And I ordered a chicken quesadilla. Again there was no seasoning, no spice, it was just blah. I thought a quesadilla would be can't-miss kind of food but this place found a way to fail. The only reason this restaurant gets 2 stars instead of one is because the patio outside is a great seating area, and the chips and salsa were endless. Our long time waiter, whom we thought was a nice guy (we leave in excess of 20% tip and are easy customers-he refused, on a slow nearly empty Sunday afternoon @ 3pm, to lower the blasting rock music. Mom is a senior and has a hearing problem), After 3 requests to turn it down, we were told that the owner wouldn't allow them to lower it!!!! It is not a dance club! It's a freakin' restaurant! We walked out and won't return. Called the owner, could care less. I don't know what the others are complaining about...I've been eating here for 15 years and have had consistently good grub. The salsa is entirely made fresh ( tomatoes and all) and very spicy. The salads and entrees are also better than decent-dressings are all made here-not prepackaged. No it's not haute cuisine, but it is my go-to place for a quick bite without a hassle. There are too many chain resto's in Hamden and many mediocre bar & grills and pizza joints. Thanks to Aunt Chiladas you can actually have food with some semblance of spice,fresh veggies and grilled seafood-very tough to come by in these parts. The seafood is always fresh-tuna,salmon, shrimp and scallops dishes all have been hearty, tasty and consistent. Beautiful location, pretty terrible food. Let's start with the good. This cool little place is set right next to the Sleeping Giant Country Club in Hamden. They have a great patio with a view of the golfers, a nice place to have drinks with friends. However, a restaurant is for food is it not? Their website claims that "Aunt Childa" took a road trip to Mexico to "find the secrets of her culinary ancestors", unfortunately she must have gotten lost. All of our 6 diners left the majority of the food on their plate. Their version of chicken tortilla soup = bland chicken noodle soup without the noodles, absolutely no spices, cilantro, or any other mexican seasonings, with crazy red strips of tortillas on the top. Someone needs a lesson in "kicking it up a notch", people. Same for their black bean soup. It literally tasted like they poured a can of black beans into hot water and served it as such. The people at my table who ordered it could not take more than 2 bites. My entree, a chicken taco. Hard to screw up right? The shredded chicken was dry, but soaked in some tomato saucy stuff that reminded me more of marinara than salsa. Shredded cheddar to top it off inside of a flour tortilla. Please, at least warm the tortilla next time so that it doesn't break apart as soon as I pick it up. Oh, wait. There won't be a next time. I'm sorry Aunt Chilada, I hate giving negative reviews but your cook could really benefit from having some Mexican chefs, heck maybe just the Mexican auntie next door come over and give you a few pointers on what Mexican food is all about. To end on a nice thought, the wait staff were very nice, professional and catered to our needs doing the best they could with what was coming out of the kitchen. On Friday nights this places turns into a bar with dancing on the first and second floor. The place has four bars located on both floors and on the outdoor patio. Add them on social media to find out when they have themed nights such as pjs, ugly sweater, country, and twin night! Mixed drinks tend to be strong, and the bathroom lines on the first floor are crazy long. (Tip: go to the second floor for less crowded bathrooms). Five stars for the memories, music, staff, themes, and aunt chilada herself. She is terrifying, but keeps the place alive week after week. read more

The food is not close to being Mexican, sort of a feeble attempt to the real thing. The setting is great, wonderful deck, but there is the food. Tuesday nights are the busiest. Two dollar tacos, but based on reviews I haven't risked it yet. Probably won't, and probably won't be back. Some Sundays they have a band on the second floor. Older musicians who are wonderful, play mostly old, big band music and they sometimes have an older lady sing with them. But the sticking point is the food. Got fajitas. A friend and I wanted fajitas for two but waitress informed us that we still could only have 3 sides. Meaning we both had to have the same. WTF? ordered separately (paying more). Now have to choose 3 sides /toppings. Lettuce counts as one. Really? I got rice, sour cream, tomato, and lettuce. All are among choices for my toppings but I am one over. I got charged for a side of rice. Why not charge me for a side of lettuce which should come to about ten cents? Meat was bland and in chunks which makes a fajita awkward. Tortillas brought to the table 10 to 15 minutes before the meat and got cold. The mediocre food would have been tolerable but the service and unreasonable menu "rules" made it feel like the place is nickel and diming me and not doing what it needs to to provide a meal with the standard accompanying items. read more

Delicious Mexican food! We love this place. It's always so yummy and the portions are huge. Burritos, quesadillas and guac are our usual choices, and the salsa is Fire!
