So, this place undoubtedly has my favorite burger in Buffalo. I won't tell you who my close second is, since they've already gotten 5 stars from me as well and have no bearing on this review...obviously. I'm so glad there's an Augie's near where my husband works because he will, at my prompting, bring me a burger home occasionally. Sadly, he believes the milkshakes are too expensive, which I would agree with if they weren't mind-blowingly delicious, so I rarely get one unless we're splurging. Anyways, back to their burgers. Mercifully, they offer a gluten free version of their buns, The patties are always cooked to perfection and the unctuous melted cheese pairs well with them. The brininess of the pickles and softness of the buns are also great for balancing the yummy flavors that make up an Augie burger. They also seem to be made of fresh ingredients, which is probably why the burgers keep well in the fridge if you can't finish a whole one the same day it's made. These burgers are an exemplary example of great cooking. The service is friendly, even if the restaurant is busy. Just walking in let's you know you're in for a delicious meal because it smells so good in there. I recommend this haven of delight to essentially everyone. read more

I had a great experience at Mr. Sizzle's food cart and was surprised that the experience at Augie's was different (same owner, similar menus). The Classic burger is very tasty although it was missing the char flavor I was looking for. It's good but didn't quite hit the crave spot. Can't beat the price though! Fries were great. The indoor seating looked nice but the music was so loud I could barely ask questions about the menu, let alone hold a conversation at a table. Fortunately it was not raining and the outside patio is nice. I had difficulty finding napkins and ketchup and whatnot (no napkins come as default?), but that may have been because the noise level hit my overwhelm-point almost immediately. Augies has some good deals. We brought five niblings here for $5 burgers ($7 vegan sizzles), though ony one got a burger. However, it was happy hour so we took orders ahead of time to keep everyone to the happy hour specials. We were looking forward to a good time but on the way in, an employee walked by us and said to all 5 kids, "The milkshakes here are great!" Well, that turned into 5 kids asking for milkshakes - three of whom are lactose intolerant- and two of whom can't have sugar. Also, five milkshakes would be $50 we were not planning to spend. So, instead of this being a fun treat, everyone moped about the lack of milkshakes. I wish we had just turned around and left after that unwanted interference. Instead, we stayed and paid money for everyone to be miserable. Also, our vegan sizzles inexplicably didn't have cheeze. Every liked their food just fine. read more

I'm not a review person, but Augie's deserves the shoutout. Consistently serves the perfect burger, and easily my favorite in Buffalo. Cool atmosphere, fairly quick service, friendly staff; they really check all the boxes. But this burger, truly, is perfection. It tastes clean, it's always the same, and the ingredients pop. I always get a bacon lettuce tomato and cheese, and I'd love to explore the menu more but this really never misses. read more

The food cart experience I had was amazing. Based on that I decided to try their restaurant which was a disappointing experience. The bad: The root beer float was flat. The burgers had no browning from the Maillard reaction and may not have been salted. While the food cart had a delicious crisp, the restaurant burgers were just cooked gray. I got the mothership burger and the burger sauce had no acid to it. Topping that on the American cheese left a fatty cloying feeling in my mouth. It really needed ketchup, mustard, dill pickle or some other acid to cut through the fat and the sauce itself didn't carry that. Maybe extremely mayo heavy with a hint of coloring. It was just unpleasant to me. It also drowned out the taste of the tomato and lettuce. It's probably the worst burger special sauce that I've had in any state I've lived in. The good: They grill their hotdog and it was browned and crisp and the pickle ketchup mustard onion combo I had was a great flavor balance. The dill pickle was a crisp spear. The fries continue to be an outstanding side dish. The mid: while the service was friendly, the cashier didn't know the food. Specifically they didn't know what loaded fries were. It was hard to hear them over the blasting music but it sounded like it's just cheese (what kind?) and sour cream. They had to ask around and they still didn't seem certain. Inside was pretty warm and we sat outside next to the street for a quieter and cooler atmosphere. While at the food cart I was given overflowing fries, the restaurant was just a filled cup. I personally love the five guys overflow method. They have a recycling container and I almost dumped my trash in it because it's not clearly differentiated from the trash. They really need it to be a bright blue/color as opposed to just stickers. I also have the disadvantage of being tall so it's less at eye level and we came in from outside so I only saw a double trash container from the side and I would have just moved and dumped into the closest one (the recycling) if my wife wasn't standing there. Overall, I don't know that I'd recommend. The food cart experience was fantastic and this wasn't. Maybe it was an off day? I hesitate to thumb down but I was very much not impressed. The fries though, they still rocked. I sadly probably won't be back. read more

We try to go to Augies every time we are in Buffalo (from Rochester). They have the best environment (at both locations) and are always welcoming! Last time we decided to bring along the entire JV and Varsity Penfield Boys Basketball team and everyone enjoyed their food! It was amazing they were able to accommodate us all in a timely manner and many said they would come back! My husband and I used to come to Augie's when it was Mister Sizzles, and we were so sad when it closed. We were then excited when it reopened and rebranded! We love the space here and we always sit at the bar and get great service. I always get a milkshake, and this time I got the loganberry. It was so good and creamy! They load you up with whipped cream which I love. I got the butter burger, which is technically on the secret menu but it's so cheesy and buttery. I love it so much. I went to Mr Sizzles when it first opened and while it wasn't perfect it was much better than what I recently had at Augie's. At Augie's last night I had maybe the worst burger in recent memory. The bun wasn't fresh, the burger was too small for the bun and it certainly wasn't a smash burger. It was also somehow both overcooked and had zero char. It was like a sad grey little puck. I couldn't finish it. They were also totally out of hotdogs, which was weird. There weren't many customers and the service was kind of cold and abrasive. Part of what made us decide to try it was the Augie's hour advertised online and it was also on the menu sitting by the register, which turned out to be false advertisement. None of the specials were actually at the advertised prices. 2 of us ordered one right after another with the staff that had zero customer service personality. The first persons food came out so much quicker than the 2nds that they were basically done eating by the time the 2nd order came out. Food was mid. The onions on the burger were stringy and all piled on one side, space boy fries were buried in so much sauce might as well have been a soup, and they were not cooked properly. $35+tax/tip for a smash burger, wha were basically cheese fries with a burger on it, and a root beer float. We were traveling here from California during a New York snow storm. We decided to grab a bite along our way at Augie's. We were immediately greeted with a warm smile and a friendly atmosphere. We were visiting on a Monday and were pleasantly surprised to find out it was $5 sizzles hamburger Monday. Their menu had a plentiful selection and had adorable names to match. We ordered A few sizzles, the hot chicken, fries, strawberry milkshake, the game over and the poutine. All of us collectively agreed that all the food was phenomenal and we loved that they had gluten free option for our kids, of which my daughter said it was the best gluten free burger they have ever had. Destiny was the sweetest and came out and told us the poutine wasn't up to her standards and that she was going to make them again for us and we appreciated that so much. Having such an amazing staff like Destiny and the other gentlemen working, really sets the bar high for us. The decor brought the whole restaurant together and it was such a precious moment when they hung our children's art work up. If you are ever in Buffalo, Augie's is a must! It's well worth driving through a snow storm to eat here. We can't wait till the next visit! read more

So I recently moved into the area and I now live about 500 feet from this place and that's going to be a problem. Between the awesome burgers somehow even more amazing chicken sandwiches great fries and then out of this world shakes. I'm going to be a big house before the end of the year. I'm showing straight and not trying to only go once a week but when I first got here, I was in there like three or four times a week for the first two weeks. The food is amazing.
