We had rodents dancing above our heads at night in our low head-room attic. We called Attic Pros…read morewho did a cursory "inspection" and recommended complete replacement of attic insulation, replacement of most A/C duct work in the crawl space below the house, sanitizing, and sealing up "all" entry points for critters. It was very expensive but we went with them mainly because the "inspector" (a salesman through and through) had excellent English and promised to personally manage the project. He answered one subsequent question and then disappeared, never to be heard from again. The estimated 3-day job took 3 weeks, with schedules shifting daily, different crews, minimal work days, redundant and often incorrect communication via text and email, and no explanations of what was going on. The crews were friendly but spoke minimal English. It was difficult to understand what was done, not yet done, or not intended to be done. Once they left, the critters remained. Staff came back 3 or 4 times to seal additional openings ... to the wrong area (crawl space rather than attic). The most recent visit by Jorge was very good. He had good English so his explanations were understandable and helpful. He found and fixed two more openings - these at roof level - and recommended a spray that can repel rodents from returning. I bought and used that (why don't they do that themselves?) and the first night at least was the first "quiet" night in months.

The house has wood siding in front and stucco on remaining three sides. They were the only one willing to drill hole through the exterior wood siding in front and patch. They also paint if owner provides the paint. The other two contractors said they had to drill holes from inside the house (oh no, we had just patched out walls after the electrical work). So far looks like house is staying cooler in warm afternoons. We shall see this winter!

I had my external walls insulated and they used cellulose to fill making 1.5 inch holes between the studs. Then they use a cork foam type backing to put in the holes as a vapor barrier and close it with stucco patch. Then comes the texture followed by primer. And if you provide them your matching paint they will color the patches too. They are nice and simple folks and easy to work with. Thanks I wonder why I waited so long to insulate the walls as the difference is noticeable and will save energy. They also help with rebates offered by state or federal.

Chris's Insulation came up, he had great ratings, he was super close by, so after calling a different service and going to voicemail, I called Chris. Chris picked up after the second ring. When I told him that I needed someone to clean our dryer vent and what had happened, he said he could come out either between 5:00 and 6:00 pm that evening or the next day. It was already mid-afternoon when I called, so I was surprised to hear him say he could still come out same-day, but I decided to have him do that since I was free and also still a little shaky following what happened with the vent either smoking or steaming. Chris showed up during the window he quoted and wasted no time getting to work. He started the second he arrived and was done within the hour. His pricing was incredibly reasonable and fair and so far, in the couple of weeks since he was here, we've had no issues with the dryer.
