It just goes to show you. In the Service Industry it all comes down to the service and service depends on satisfied employees working together as a team. Needed to get the fiberglass out of the attic. It was killing me slowly due to respiratory problems. Today a crew of four were sent to pull and bag in place, vacuum and sanitize. Then replace the barbaric fiberglass with rock wool. They worked solid all day long. Even more important they worked happy all day long. I became worried that they were not going to be able to stand the fiber in the air, but they had each other's backs and checked to make certain everyone stayed healthy. Couple of challenges popped up, like they do in every project, each was settled in my favor even though it was clearly not quite policy and some serious re-engineering had to happen. Attic Construction completed a blow in insulation job for our home in June of 2019. When the project was finished, I was shown pictures by the gentleman who did the job and neglected to go up and actually look up in the attic before he left (my error). In actuality, he had missed a large room in the back of the house that is difficult to access. I discovered this two days ago and sent an email to the team alerting them to the missed room and asking how we could get the problem resolved. I had a call back the next morning, and a crew at my house the same day. The two gentlemen who arrived (after completing another job), Jermaine and Jesus, were incredibly polite and efficient and had that back room taken care of in about an hour. They were also concerned and apologetic that the previous team member had missed the room. Thank you Jake Sheiner for being The Best Technician ever! I really appreciate your help and am so lucky that you were the technician from Attic Construction who came out to look at my rat problem. I called Attic Construction because for a few nights I heard a rat in the wall of my nursery where I change my 3 month old every night, all night long. I freaked out and called for help. Jake came out right away, he called me on his way to my house and was even able to come out early! So I didn't have to wait the estimated 2 hours. That was the first part of this awesome experience. When Jake got here he was so kind that even my 3 month old was smiling at him. Side note: he knows a ton about kids so that was a fun experience too. I found attic construction online to do an inspection as I feel my house might face insulation issues. Jason went to my place and did an overall check in attic with detail pictures. Seemed professional at first but the customer service and communication went downhill once we booked them for late December. The employee who did the estimate (Cory) asked that we write a check for the deposit so he could pick up the check and book our install appointment. Cory did not pick up the check nor respond to the inquiry I emailed to his office. The office staff did put me on the schedule anyhow. The day before the scheduled install, we did not get a confirmation call as he said we would; I had to email the office to ask for confirmation. The crew showed up on time. Five minutes into the job, one crew member tried to come inside our house and use the bathroom, which we had expressly prohibited due to COVID-19. Not a good sign. Brian and the crew did a good job with the insulation under the house as far as we can tell. Unfortunately, they failed to pick up their gum and snack wrappers in our driveway, and they did not plug the rodent holes in the basement, per the contract. I waited to hear from Cory on the day of the install; he had said he would call to check on the job's progress. He did not. I had to call his office and ask them to ask him to call me, which he did-- his explanation for not calling and not picking up the check was that he was "too busy." Attic construction I hired attic construction to do a complete attic cleanup,rodent proofing and install new insulation. Jake the tech who quoted me the job promised me that my attic would be so clean and spotless. The whole 9 yards. ( I've included photos of my original quote and areas in my attic that were not cleaned out) Jesus and his crew showed up on time as promised. The clean up process was going well until I did my first inspection. It took 4 times for Jesus and his crew to finally get my attic clean enough to start the blow in of the new insulation . The first three times I found areas where they had not removed insulation and rodent droppings. The 4th and final time was a battle , I found the back section of house my that had not been touched. I went down and told Jesus about the area they missed and he said it was not a area he could get too (I had just been there and I'm 50 lbs heavier) . I told him that was unacceptable , I'm paying them $400 a hour for job half done. Jesus called his general manager Mark , Mark told me that it was a area they could not get to and was I pretty much out of luck. I explained to Mark I wasn't going to pay for a job half way done and that I had gone up there myself. Mark and Jesus talked for a few more minutes and finally Jesus agreed to clean out the back section of my attic. It was at this point that I felt the Jesus had started to act unprofessional. I found trash in my hallway and there workmanship began to get sloppy. I called Jake the tech who originally came out to my house and I let him know that they would be redoing their work if contract obligations were not met. Jake offered to have his general manager call Jesus to straighten things out , I explained to him what had already happened and that I expect Jake to make all the deficiencies right. Which he agree he would. After the Jesus and crew finished the blow in process I went up to my attic and again found more areas that were not clean and what's more I found that the can light covers that we're supposed to be installed had not been done. So if your thinking about hiring these guys please be ready to go in your attic or crawl space to inspect their work . Attic Construction works off the premise that most people will not go and check their work or lack there of. Also make an extra copy of the list of work they will perform per the contract and be ready give it to the tech performing the work , apparently there is no communication between the techs as what needs to be done. I had to tell Jesus and his crew several times that certain things were supposed to be done. Each time the crew would say " Oh we're suppose to do that ,they didn't tell me that." Also although these guys get paid by the hour the crew will get a bonus for finishing early (according to the crew who came out to my house). Which is probably the big reason why they initially did a rush job and skipped sections. The crew that came out to my house were there for almost 12 hrs which is 6 hrs over their original estimate to complete the job. Pleasantly surprised on the professional service we received today , August 19. To begin with it was 105 outside and a lot warmer in the attic. Our technician , Jake , was right on time wearing his mask. We discussed our concerns and he actually listened . Rats coming and going in the attic and we needed them out. Jake put his paper boot covers on and climbed into the attic . He came out 15 minutes later . He spotted a vent that was missing a screen . He explained the situation and indicated we don't need to have our insulation removed since our house is not that old . I happen to have a piece of mesh and he offered to screw it in . He crawled back up and in 5 minutes the mesh wire was installed. He would not charge me which made me feel a bit guilty . He took a picture and showed me other areas that a prior company we hired had installed mesh wire on other ducts . They apparently missed the one Jake found . After seeing his pictures I know why they missed it because it was in a very difficult place . Very high marks to Jake for being honest and explaining our problem . My attic was in serious need of being cleaned and reinsulated. The previous owner of the house did a really bad job at adding insulation to the point that it pretty much didn't make a difference at all. The attic is one of the top places that your home will experience losses in heating/cooling during the winter or summer. I reached out to several contractors for some pricing on replacing the insulation and Attic Construction Inc. seemed to be right in the middle for pricing and had the best resume of reviews. Tony, the rep who came out to inspect the attic was very professional and did a great job at explaining what they would be doing during the cleanup and installation of the insulation. They were able to send a crew out the very next week to start the project. I wasn't able to be home when they showed up to work, but my friend said they were on time and did a great job at protecting the floors, walls and other various things from being damaged during the project. Lane (who was in charge of the crew) did an excellent job at showing me the work they did, explaining what they found and making sure I was happy with their work. They left on time and did an awesome job at cleaning up everything behind them. The end result was a attic that was thoroughly cleaned, intrusions sealed up and a brand new layer of R-30 insulation. After several weeks of having the attic done, I've already noticed the difference in how well the house keeps a mild temperature during the hotter days. First off, I'm rating these guys 3 stars because it sounds like they would have done a really good job had I hired them, but here's why I didn't. Short Answer: Deceptive advertising sets unrealistic pricing expectations far from reality. Long Answer: I saw an ad in the Peninsula Beacon advertising $98 for rodent waste removal (normally $199). Sounded great. I go on their website and they also remove old insulation and put in new stuff if you want. Perfect. I don't have any insulation and my tiny house only has 650 square feet of attic space. There's an old blanket up there and some wood scraps, maybe enough to fill a street-side garbage bin. How much could it possibly be to clean it out completely? Remember, it was $98 for rodent waste removal so maybe another couple hundred bucks for a complete job right? 300? $400? Wrong. Think tip-of-the-iceberg wrong. So David comes out to do the estimate (super nice guy, very knowledgeable) and walked me around the house explaining everything they would be looking for. He got into the attic, took some measurements, and then sat down and walked me through the whole job. They will come out, they have a 14HP gas powered vacuum, they use large contractor bags that they fill and seal before bringing them through the house, they decontaminate/sterilize the attic with a chlorine based solution, they seal up every hole and crack to prevent future rodent entry... Sounds great! I'm also interested in having insulation put in after its been cleaned so he explains how that's done and adds that in to his estimate. Now for the quote.... $3,450 What? Really? How did we get here from $98? Ok, so forget the new insulation and forget the decontamination. How much just to take out the wood scraps, clean the rodent waste, and vacuum up all the other dust? $2,350 but if we do it today $1,950. Ok so it's $98 to remove the rodent waste... and then it's another $1,852 to do some heavier vacuuming and remove some wood scraps? How does that make any logical sense?? He explains it's 3 guys, equipment, their time, etc. I get it, sounds like they do a really good job. But why advertise something for $98 and expect people to be OK when you quote them something 20 times or 30 times higher? I never would have called them if I knew it was going to be that much. Now they wasted my time and at least an hour of their own time because their advertisement set expectations that were so far from reality. If you don't want to do this kind of work yourself I recommend calling them, I'm convinced they will do a great job. Just set your expectations appropriately and be prepared to spend north of $2,000 for their services. For me, I'll do it myself when the weather cools. read more

Short story: Nice people to work with, an hour and half late for the work, very expensive work so I hope I got what I paid for. I know very little about attic insulation and what not so I just trust whatever they said. Long story: I had one contractor removed some old insulation in the attic. We already got the new duct and most of needed for the new duct installation. However, he didn't finish the job and went MIA. I saw attic construction's ad on the mail before so we decided to give them a call. We don't have any rodent problem but the operator said they also do air duct installation. Jake came out to do estimate on the day before Thanksgiving. He went up to the attic and did some measurements. Came down and do the math with us. It turned out our house has very little insulation in the attic and the SDGE requirement for house was 10 inch tall. Anyways, the total for the air duct installation and adding more insulation was $3250. That's a lot of money for adding more insulation and putting air duct in. (They put in two 7-inch air ducts and three bags of insulation while we provided the rest.) They also put some wire on the air holes to prevent animals from getting in the attic. We were kinda desperate for the heat and Jake was very good sales man so we went for it. 10% deposit was paid through check (you can do either cash or check) and we set a day to do the job. At the day of the work, the team was around an hour and half late to my house. They didn't call us about what's going on and when we called the company, the operator didn't sound like she knew where's the team neither. Anyways, when the team actually came, they said it's because they had issue with the previous job. I would appreciate it if I can get some notification. The team was very nice people. They listened to me when I requested to have some plastic cover for the room. I didn't go up to check the process during the almost five hours job they did becuase I have bad allergies with dust. It sounded like they were working hard in the attic. My mom was nice to them too and she got them pizza and drinks. There was one side story. When Jake gave us the estimate, he told us they provide two years warranty for the work. However, when the team finished the job and we signed the final paper, the manager said they only do one year warranty. I couldn't argue against it becuase we didn't ask Jake to write that down. And the email o got did say one year. Oh well, I made a mental note to myself saying remember to record what people promise me next time. Then the manager made a call and said they will honor the two year warranty on the rodent prevention but not the insulation. I guess that's better than nothing but still. I didn't have any rodent problem to begin with and I am not worried about that. At the very end I put on the whole body jumpsuit and mask to go look at the attic. It did look a lot better than before. I used a ruler to check if the insulation really is 10 inches thick. The insulation is all fluff up so it kinda reach 10 inches. But I feel like it would settle and flatten to less 10 inches later because the insulation went down when I put my hand on it lightly. I just hope they did their best and I got what I paid for. read more

My attic was beyond a mess. Hard to describe without using profanity. There were carcasses of decomposing rodents, carcasses of decomposing birds, several honeycombs, and a whole lotta dead bees which I had exterminated last month. And that's just the beginning. It had very old, and very thin, and very crappy, rolled R11 insulation that was installed just under 50 years ago. The ductwork was uninsulated rigid metal that had seen it's better days. There were openings and access points in the structure allowing all sorts of living creatures to enter and make their home in my attic. As I said it was an effing mess. I knew about the bees and the likeliness of honeycombs when some advertising from Attic Construction appeared in my envelope from Money Mailer along with dozens of other solicitations which got thrown out. Timing is everything. So I called and the next day to my house came Adam Nusinovich. Adam inspected my attic, showed me photos that he had taken while in the attic, and then offered me a reasonable solution. It didn't take me long to agree to have the work done. Because I did not need financing and also because my schedule was extremely flexible, I was able to arrange to have the work performed the very next morning at a price below the normal quoted price. The next morning Layne Haugen and his young crew arrived. These guys are young but exceptionally well trained and thoroughly professional. We did a walk-through, checking everything that needs to be checked, to make sure everything was working OK before they started anything, and off they went. Seven hours later I had, in effect, a brand-new attic, with all the crap vacuumed out, six new flexible ducts, and R30 blown-in Owens Corning insulation that was four times as high as what had been there previously. I believe I got what I paid for and that the money was well spent. I recommend Attic highly because they delivered everything that they promised in the manner in which it was promised. And, all they do is attics, so they are specialists with attics. I felt comfortable using an attic company to service my attic. Call and ask for Adam to come out and give you a quote. I needed help with determining how rats are accessing the crawlspace under my small 698 sq. ft. house. I had a company come out a couple of days ago and they offered their services to try to solve my problem (no guarantees) for a $2000 initial fee, and $100 a month charge. I contacted Attic Construction for another bid and Dion came over this morning to assess this problem. He texted his ETA and was 10 minutes early for the appointment. He was friendly, professional and completely honest about what I should do to try to solve this problem. Even though I don't have a problem in my attic, and insulation isn't involved, he happily suited up and went into my crawlspace to try to determine where the rats were gaining access. He did a thorough investigation on the inside perimeter of the crawlspace and took several photos for me. He showed me a photo depicting where he believes the rats are gaining access to my crawlspace. He told me that my situation did not warrant him writing up a bid. We've lived in our house for 11+ years and it never occurred to us to take a really good look in the attic ... we did that on a Thursday and on Friday, Attic Construction was cleaning and re-insulating it for us. Backtracking a bit ... our exterminator friend showed us that our attic was gross. Old and disintegrated insulation in our 1938 house, lots of extra wood pieces thrown around, weirdly cardboard-wrapped old mirrors (to prevent bad luck?), and rodent evidence. I took to Google and Yelp and found two main options ... one company with two positive but few-friend reviews and another company with one excellent Elite Yelper review and another with a few-friend lousy review. I contacted both companies via Web site forms and they both responded quickly. My husband then called each of them as they recommended and the few-friend review company promised a call back within two hours ... they never called back. The good-bad review company told us they were a couple weeks out but they'd keep us on their cancellation list. The next day, they called and said they could come out in half an hour.
