In Dec. 2019, Renovation Roofing sealed my building roof and the roof of the 4 detached garages. Payment included a 10 year warranty. In Jan. 2023, I noticed the red coating that was put under the white sealer was showing through the white sealer. I notified the property manager that had contacted the work, Cabrillo Properties. After, I was contacted by a woman at McKay Roofing in El Cajon on Cuyamaca Street, lic.#428225. She said she hadn't bought the company, but had bought the crew from Renovation Roofing and sent out inspectors. I spoke with two inspectors, on site, and they determined the seal work was faulty and needed repair. Since then, Cabrillo Properties has repeatedly communicated with Renovation Roofing and McKay Roofing to have the work done. Ray Mosley of Renovation Roofing said he would send a crew to fix it, but didn't. Then he said the work had been done, but it hadn't, and still hasn't. To this day the same red, in the same places is still showing through---plus more. Both companies have had a year to resolve this, and instead they have only offered ambiguous, untrue and empty words. read more

Unbelievably unprofessional. At no point in the discussions we had with this company did we ask for only half of our roof to be redone, and throughout the process it was incredibly difficult to get them to communicate about anything. Work started while we were out of town because we couldn't even get a start date, then when we returned and found only half the roof had been done, we were told "sorry, read the fine print." This company shouldn't be allowed to operate, and we will be doing whatever we can to make sure that is the case in the future. This update is to correct a piece of information from my previous review and to provide some additional information that counters what the owner of Renovation Roofing stated in his reply. First my correction. I posted a picture of my roof with a mastic patch that I mistakenly thought R.R installed on my roof (I will delete those pictures). That is not correct, it was on the roof before I purchased it. It was listed on the property inspection report that was dated 3/17/16 and there are photographs of the patch on the roof at that time on the inspection report. My rebuttal to Renovation Roofing. The warranty issued on my roof was dated 3/15/16. This means that when R.R. inspected the roof and issued a warranty the mastic patch was already on the roof, therefore needs to be covered under the warranty that was sold to the previous owner and transferred to me. Renovation Roofing is still responsible for repairs to the roof regardless of the patch or not. They had a chance to decline to issue a warranty and didn't do so. Since my initial review, R.R. has attempted to repair my leak again (5th attempt) but with no success...in fact my roof leaks worse than ever. I now have a new leak that I never had before. They left debris on my property to include nails on my patio. They show up with no notice that they are coming, they climb on the roof without attempting to contact the residents of the house and they leave without giving an update if they are done or if there is still work to do. Today it rained, and today my roof leaked again...5 months after my first report...all of this could have been avoided if they fixed the roof correctly the first time. I will post another update when/if R.R. honors the warranty and finally fixes my roof. read more

This has been the worst experience I've had with contractors. We were provided an initial bid and approved the work. We were told the work would not begin until the week after contracting. We showed up at the property and work had already started. At the end of the work we received an invoice for double the initial bid. I understand things may come up during the project but we, as the owners, were never notified of the additional work/materials needed, nor did we approve the work to continue. Ray could only give me 5 minutes and then his office staff could not get a hold of him for almost a week to return my question of who approved this work. Once an answer was received it was not who approved the work, but by law they had to do it. At invoicing, after given no option for recourse, we sent payment for the amount. The check was made to the company instead of Ray personally. Instead of the accounting department notify us that it was made to the wrong party a bank error, which is what was agreed to, they cleared the check and then sent an additional invoice for more money. I would never engage with this company again. read more

Renovation roofing was highly recommended, and considering we have a leak in our roof, I called. They were extremely pleasant over the phone and even booked us right away. They said someone would be out Saturday from 8-3. You're thinking... that's 7 hours, someone is bound to show up and do their job. But sadly, no. No one showed, no one called. I called them after 3 and asked why no one had come and it appeared they had no recollection of the appointment, because they could not provide a response. I called again during the week, since I still hadn't heard from anyone regarding the matter. They acknowledged that I called and yet, still no response as to what happened. I would STRONGLY encourage this company to practice simple courteous customer service: follow up. There was an obvious miscommunication with YOUR staff. Figure it out and return a phone call. It really is that simple. UPDATE: I just received an estimate in the mail today. Is it customary to provide an estimate when no one has come out to my house? I just read Mr. Mosley's response to my review from 4/11/2016, and all I can say is this individual is even more unprofessional than I thought - completely misrepresenting absolutely everything and just plain making things up. It's actually pretty humorous to me! I wish, truly, that I could say, "yup - he's right on such-and-such: my bad," but I can't find one thing to give him that credit for. Except, yes, my wall had been hit a number of times previously, but not enough to require serious repair. After Mr. Mosley's truck, or rather the full industrial dumpster it was carrying, hit it - the damage was so significant that even my insurance company required its immediate repair. I'll happily show Mr. Mosley that correspondence, as well as refresh his memory of the correspondence I had with Mr. Mosley himself stating exactly those facts, which he misrepresented here. I had always had some empathy for contractors whose responses to Yelp made it appear that they were dealing with an unnecessarily irate customer (and I still believe there are those out there). However, after reading Mr. Mosley's, I can say unequivocally that there are some contractors who just plain pull things out of the (air). Just one of many untruths: I have done business only one time with him - NEVER contracted him in Jan. 2015 for a repair. (Believe me, I only have to use him once to know how he operates ;-) Perhaps the scariest thing is he potentially believes what he's writing...my goodness. He would be an excellent technical fiction writer, and I recommend he start dabbling in that professionally ;-) As for why this review is coming now: last week, a neighbor wrote of a similar experience with Mr. Mosley on a community social network, and after being encouraged by the neighborhood, we decided that it was important to let consumers know about our experiences so they can make informed decisions. We both discussed contacting not only Yelp, but also Angie's List, BBB, and CSLB. I followed my end of the deal, and I expect that my neighbor will be following shortly. He provided pictures and explained the process of what needed to be done. He submitted the proposal and to my dismay it was a great price. A brief Update to my review. After Renovation Roofing replaced my roof I had several leaks that caused internal water damage and they refused to make needed repairs, denied being at fault, blamed others, etc. And in the process came to my house on one occasion without authorization and would not tell me what they did. They belittled me directly to me, and to other people and lied to me and any other third party I contacted to get resolution. I had it inspected by another roofer and was advised it was installed out of compliance if building code. These are just a few of the examples of how I, as a paying customer, was treated by Renovation Roofing as my review would become way to long. I pursued a Contractors State Licensing Board complaint and won that complaint as it was deemed my roof was not installed to building code. My roof was installed October 2018 by Renovation Roofing and I was awarded in August 2019 and then received the money for reimbursement from Renovation Roofing September 2019 and can finally get my roof replaced correctly. Start to finish this company did a great job. First off, I asked for an estimate when the house was still in escrow because I wanted a quote to get some credits from the seller. Many other roofing companies charge for an estimate if you are in escrow, but Ray came out that day and gave me some options and a quick turn-around on the quote. Their quote was very competitive and I appreciated Ray's honest assessment of my options and that they were so responsive. Now 8 months later we were ready to add the roof and I had no doubt what company to choose. They even honored the old pricing. Ray was helpful in dropping off color samples and the office was clear about the start date. As for the work, they did a great job and were fairly clean (for construction). They did a quality job and even replaced some damaged facia boards as part of the service. The roof looks great and they have my full recommendation. read more

These guys were suppose to start on my parents roof weeks ago and never got started. They kept telling us that we're 3rd in line...2 WEEKS AGO! Very unprofessional! Ray came out and gave an estimate that blew all of our other quotes out of the water. He was super nice and made us feel comfortable that he knew what he was talking about. All the other roofers we had received quotes from told us that they would be replacing all the sheeting. So when Ray did come out and quoted us we asked "will you need to replace all the sheeting" and his response "No" Fast forward to the first day of new roofing: they came out to start work and Ray went back and forth approx. 4 times telling us that we needed to replace ALL the sheeting, and then that we didn't then that we did, then we didnt. Once the roof was completely torn off and it was too late to go back he notified us that there would be an additional $1,900 charge for damaged wood that he "didn't see originally when he came out to quote" (Weird, considering all the other roofers were able to identify that ALL sheeting was going to need to be replaced) SO if you take the original quote we got plus the additional $1,900 that was added on we ended up paying WAY MORE with Renovation roofing than we had been quoted elsewhere. Now I will say that Ray did offer us 12 months to pay off the additional $1,900 that we weren't expecting to pay, which was appreciated, but unfortunately doesn't make the situation any easier to swallow. As for the work that was done: I will say that the roof looks great! Unfortunately the job site (OUR HOME) wasn't left as tidy as we had expected. - We continue to find large nails from the old roofing around the yard and driveway. True litmus test with any service provider, is when things go wrong. My Condo complex experienced numerous cancelled appts to begin work on our project. On the second day of work, I came home to find their crew spray painting directly above my truck! They only partially covered my truck. I was alarmed and roofing claimed he knocked on everyone's door. I was away for a run. I announced that I will move it immediately. I was concerned that there may be damage. I returned with my keys and phone to take pictures. Upon my return, the roofer was complaining to another roofer referring to me as some d!ck. He realized that I heard it. He explained that I wasn't meant to hear it. I started to take pictures of him on the ladder with a paint can. He started to get upset that I was documenting everything and started challenge and then started again with his childish insults. He then approach me in a threatening manner. I retreated and got in the car to move. I can see light paint spray on my windshield. Feeling very threatened and upset, I called their office to complain and demand to have them removed. They complied. I was expecting their owner to follow up with me to express an apology and determine if any damage was incurred from their painting. He didnt. I called him. Their owner, Ray Mosley felt this would blow over that is it was "just two hotheads". I assure I did nothing to provoke this. In fact, I backed off to avoid a confrontation. Roy assured me that there was no probable damage to my truck as the paint would have dried completely before it hit my car. Roy settled this call that he can't please everybody. Clean up or lack of it - I've picked up 5 nails in our driveway from the repairs. They have dropped and sprayed wet debris on our neighbors walls. The assured our neighbors that the next rain will come off. They also removed some of our rain gutter system. It was damaged. They left us with partial rain gutter system that is draining in one of the owners yard. They had not bothered to notify HOA management. There crew looks a little rough to me, that I wondered if they did background checks. The owner has no customer service skills and little interest in understanding the customer's point of view. read more

Contrary to what I have read on this site, the office staff were very pleasant and helpful from beginning to end. The job was completed on time, even though I had to postpone once, they fit me right back in before the change of weather. The guys worked in the 3 days of 100 plus heat here in SD. Ray, although quirky, :-), contacted me by text - yes it was 4:30 am, then followed up with phone call to clarify issues. His no-nonsense approach is how I deal too. Photos of my roof were sent with the estimate and after the job was completed. I would recommend this firm to anyone as long as you can deal with the truth and a solid estimate. Then it was a rather non communicative span of time. A big storm was coming so I called to check the progress for my re-roofing, and they came and sealed the roof no charge which was great. (I had a leak) A couple of weeks later they came and started re-roofing. It would have been nice to know they were starting and if I should lock up the dog, but I was happy to have it started. They were great with the clean up, minimal mess and overall I am very pleased with the outcome. Heard great report about Renovation Roofing (RR) from a neighbor. Got RR's and two other roof repair estimates. One for $18,000! RR estimated $650, provided photos of damaged sections, and was totally professional on site and on phone with office personnel. Job done ahead of estimated wait time. Done in a few hours with crew of 6+ workers. RR provided photos of work in progress and after completion. Final bill actually less than estimated! BEWARE! I am writing this review so others will avoid the horrible experience with Renovation Roofing. If I could give Renovation Roofing NEGATIVE stars I would. I wish I was exaggerating but our experience with them required making a claim with their bond company which we were awarded 100% of our money back after their inspector evaluated the roofing job. It's a long drawn out story so here are the highlights: -R.R. was supposed to do a complete tear off on part of our roof (as stated in the contract) and apply a new roof -Few months later after the first big rain (due to S. Cali's severe drought) we had more leaks than before R.R. did the new roof, 7 leaks to be exact under our new roof. -After multiple roofing companies AND an independent home inspector (that used to be a roofing company) informed us that the roof was not applied correctly we contacted Ray (R.R.'s owner) -Ray denied, denied, denied that they did a poor job and said that the 2 independent inspectors and other roofing companies were wrong. -Stupid as this sounds, we even offered to do the rest of our roof with them (paying them another $12,000) if they would redo the part that they already did at no cost. This was 1 of 3 options we offered as our good faith effort to try to work things out. They did not accept. -Long story short, we made a claim with their bond company. The bond company deemed that R.R. did not complete the job properly and paid us 100% of our money back. Not only was the roofing job done completely inadequately but we were treated with disrespect and Ray showed no remorse or accountability for any of the roofing issues. read more

Renovation roofing was a sub contractor for my solar company I hired. I had three quotes and they seemed reasonable. They started the tear off the roof in November 2015 and it took them two days. They damaged wood and water leaked into my house, they did a horrible job. The company tried to charge me additional money for the roof. I took a bunch of pictures and called the solar company to come and check the job, they agreed with me. Do not get your roof done by renovation roofing you will regret it. You could do a better job doing it yourself. Renovation roofing also canceled my warranty on my roof. The solar company parted ways with renovation roofing also. read more

I got some roof work done with this company, and experienced extremely poor communication between the owner and his workers. The workers were unaware of what the owner and I agreed on being completed, and it took me communicating with everyone several times before it gone done the right way (I hope...I requested the workers show me pictures of the completed work; however, they never did). There was one storm one week after the entire community was said to be inspected and repaired. After a month of requesting confirmation of repairs, the leak was finally said to be fixed and was said to be inspected inside and out. We received no report of the interior and the condition. We had to send another vendor out who reported the leak was not from the roof it was a downstairs ceiling that had water stains from a bathroom leak. In addition, another repair that was made after the initial inspection and repairs to whole community once again leaked and caused damage to the interior of the unit. It took over a week to get a response from anyone at Renovation. The Owner Ray never returned a call. It rained again, still no response. Causing a 3rd dry out and thousands of dollars of damage to the interior. After continued lack of response the association had no other recourse but to call another vendor, as the poor homeowner had open walls and active leaks with water pouring in at each rain fall. When the other roofing company came out they stated that no repairs would fix the problem it needed to be re-roofed. A knowledgeable company should have advised the association either upon initial inspection or follow up repair. Neither of which was done. If the roofs were in such bad condition this should have been reported to the Management company immediately instead of providing a low cost bid that wasn't sufficient for the repairs needed. Due to this companies neglect and lack of response and falsifying reports of action that was said to be taken. The association's Board decided to remove them from the property as the vendor of choice for roofing. And after this initial review there has been five or more additional roof leaks reported. This company made no attempt to rectify or respond at all to any issues. No matter how many times we called and called and called to request a response and action to be taken. There is no way that allowing an active leak to damage a homeowners property with absolutely no response when you are servicing the community through contract is legal or appropriate or even ethical for a licensed, insured contractor to conduct business. I have never had to even write a review or had to make a report to a license board on any company as long as I have been in this industry. And any Homeowner contacting requesting you come out is because you performed services directly for their sky light that are still warranted. read more

Of course, they all denied it after I confronted them when we discovered thed theft. We called the police and filed a report against Renovation Roofing and its thieves. We were going to file a small claims lawsuit against Ray and his thieves, but on returning home one afternoon, we found the iPad near the front door with a note that "somebody" found it. However, the cable to the iPad was still missing. I called Ray to see if he would pay for a new one. He agreed to do so, but then never responded again to my calls. Of the three estimates I received, this was the only one that provided an estimate detailing options and sent one by mail as well as by email. Invoices and receipts were also sent that way. The price was also the best .They kept an eye on the weather forecast to ensure the job would not be interrupted by rain. The work crews were friendly.
