Update: the team has sent representative down after my initial review. Initial review: The reviews about bad communication with the admin team are true. We contacted them and at first Amanda told us there is no availability on the time we asked. Then a few days later they came back and confirmed they could. This is our rental unit so arranged a time with our tenant, and drove half an hour to meet them. At the appointment, no one showed up. We tried to call the office number a number of times. 5 star experience from start to finish. I called multiple roofing companies to schedule a consult when I found one of my roof tiles on the ground and my drip guards hanging from the side of my house. I didn't know what, if anything, was wrong with my house and needed a pro to come take a look. Multiple other roofing companies either ghosted me or told me they couldn't come out until next year for a consult. Howard and Sons scheduled me for a consult the very next week. Cesar came to my house and was an absolute professional. It turns out my roof was perfectly okay but he was understanding and explained everything to me thoroughly. Some people would be frustrated at me for wasting their time, but Cesar was a saint. He was not detail oriented in writing up the scope of work and many things we needed were not in the proposal. The overall quality of the roof that was installed on our house is great (as far as I can tell as a non-roofer). The workers who came to our home were friendly, they cleaned up after themselves and the foreman was wonderful. There was a complete lack of communication on the administrative side of things. I had to call numerous times to get a response once we sent in our deposit. There was no communication about the start date of our project and there was no communication (as promised by the sales rep) between our solar company and the roofing company. I was forced to become the go between and not being either a solar contractor or roofer made for many difficult conversations. Once the roof was "complete" in June, 3 months later in October we were contacted to finish the job and pain the metal trim that was placed on the roof. Based on the lack of communication and the difficult communication throughout this entire process I cannot recommend Howard and Sons Roofing. read more

Didn't think a review from 2018 would be relevant but I was wrong. We had a leak in our concrete tile roof and we also have solar panels so pinpointing the spot might have been tricky. After getting 3 estimates from local roofers, Howard's and Sons was our hands down choice. Cesar was the only one who actually got up on the roof, took a close look and was able to locate the spot needing repair. Instead of having to pay over $25,000 to replace the entire roof (as suggested by both other estimates), Miguel and his team were able to make the needed repair for way less. The company came out and gave me an estimate for roof repair. When I made a decision and wanted to hire them, and asked to speak to office manager Amanda regarding my project - I began getting ignored/stonewalled. I called at least 5 times within 2 weeks period, only each time being told Amanda is not available under different excuse, such as being in a meeting. I left Yelp messages, asking her to contact me back. On at least 3 occasions the people from their office on the other side of the phone promised me she'll contact me back either "today", or "as soon as she's out of the meeting", etc. Each time it turned out to be a lie. Finally, after a couple of weeks of chasing after their office manager to no avail, I had a lengthy conversation with Susannah, explained to her for how long I've been chasing Amanda with no success, told her this would be my last contact attempt and I'll be moving on if I don't hear back this time as well. I was assured "my frustrations are understood", and I'd hear back from Amanda "shortly" or something like that. Of course, that was another lie - no attempt to contact me by Amanda ever took place, going on 3 weeks and counting, since I wanted to hire them, and started reaching out.... It's just weird. If somebody doesn't want your business then why take their employee's time to come out, give an estimate and express interest in the project? If somebody doesn't want your business then why not just say so, and keep wasting each other's time by promising to contact me back and giving the impression you're interested in the job? I've never seen anything like this...Anyway, I'll be moving on with other quotes/companies that I've got, but I'd recommend people to stay away from this business. I'm not familiar with their quality of work, because I was never given a chance, but trust me - you do NOT want this type of customer service! UPDATE 8/7/2023: This update is a response to the reply below from the business. There was no "miscommunication". Amanda is lying when she's saying "we did reach out to you" - her call, and Cesar's call both came almost a week AFTER this review was published, and more than a month after my failed attempts to speak to her about the project, when she was refusing to either take or return my calls for over 3 weeks. Cesar's call was never needed or requested by me, and I made that abundantly clear to their office staff, during numerous attempts to reach specifically her. I find Amanda's lack of accountability, her refusal to own up to her own mistake, and trying to whizzle her way out publicly by lying in her response about calling me to be completely repulsive. If I still had any doubts about ever doing business with this company - they are gone now. When she called me *A WEEK AFTER THIS REVIEW WAS PUBLISHED" she did admit on the phone to never taking or returning my calls, even though she acknowledged she was informed multiple times I was looking for her. Amanda failed to come up with with any legitimate excuse for stonewalling me, and only said she "was very busy" (for 3+ weeks mind you, to make a single phone call, even though their office staff had told me she makes calls to customers every day) and that she "thought she was doing me a favor by letting others handle my calls, because she thought they could provide me the information I needed". read more

After the solar company said we needed to have shingles replaced, and gave us an astronomical quote that would've doubled the cost of the project, I reached out to several local roofing companies. Another gave us a quote that was almost as expensive as the solar company. After waiting for 2 months for my scheduled roofing, they did not show up on the stated day. After contacting the office I found that the entire business had been shut down due to high rates of COVID infection in their crews, but they didn't let me know my date was pushed back. I give credit to the office for pulling together a team that could start the day after my original date, and get this done before we had rain. They were masked during most of the work. Crew did a great job in both tear off and replacement of my flat (garage) and asphalt shingled roof, including replacing a cracked skylight. Cleaned up after themselves well each of the 4 days. They tore a window screen, and repaired this for me when I pointed it out to them. Entire project cost $22,000 but I feel confident that the roof will last well past the 10 year warranty. read more

I very rarely write reviews but needed to share my experience with Howard & Sons, and in particular Cesar and his team. I contacted them out of desperation a month or so ago after our first real rainstorm of the season when my tenant informed me that the roof was leaking in the house. Cesar immediately responded and not only fixed the roof for the interim, but he continued to follow up with me to make sure it was holding up, he went out of the way to send me articles he'd researched about my particular type of roofing and some of the pending issues people have had with it, and he also gave me various options and pricing for fixing the roof, beginning with the most immediate problems with no pressure to do anything in particular. He was honest and helpful and I can't say enough how much I appreciated it. Because I had such a positive experience with Howard & Sons, I decided to ask for a quote to install skylights in our home. Not only was the quote a reasonable one but knowing how impatient I am, Cesar was able to schedule the installation immediately. To be completely honest, the job took a couple of days longer than anticipated but it was still a pretty quick turn around and I can't tell you how beautiful they turned out! As good as it gets. Had a roof leak due to slipped tile. Called last Monday, got an appointment for Thursday--Caesar arrived within the appointment window--of one hour. I showed him a picture of the slipped tile. Caesar went up to the roof and slid the tile back in place. Apparently, the original installers of the tiles did not nail them down--which according to Caesar is not uncommon. The estimate was free, and the work was "simple". I cannot express how pleased I have been with Howard and Son's Roofing... Courteous, Communication, Constant Follow-up and professionalism! I originally posted on NextDoor in San Miguel Ranch that I needed a licensed roofer. I noticed a slipped tile and rain was predicted in the next few days. Ignacio P, aka Cesar P. responded to my call for help, as he lived in the neighborhood and is District Manager for Howard and Son's Roofing. He stopped over to take a look. He took pics of what was happening on my roof and explained to me that he put the tile back in place, but would come back to place a piece of special sheeting to cover the small area where the paper had been exposed to the elements and disintegrated. It didn't rain as forecasted and he returned the following week to install the sheeting. I was so impressed with his professionalism and kindness to help a neighbor in need! Unfortunately, my 25 year old roof had other ideas, so when the rains did come I had leaks in other areas, I had kept Cesar P's Business Card and called him with another SOS and he came to the rescue! He sent his foreman, Cesar Lopez the next day to inspect the areas of concern, ridge-caps needed to be replaced along one side of the roof and sheeting needed to be installed as the original did not have any. Also a large majority of my roof tiles were not even nailed down, come to find out that's a shortcut by some unprofessional roofing companies€¦.needless to say, I learned a lot about roofing! So the work began, the team was professional, hard- working, courteous and and affordable. WE HIRED THE RIGHT ROOFING COMPANY We have just had our home reroofed by Howard and Sons and it was the easiest and most pleasant home repair experience in my life. I have put new roofs on four homes that I've owned and this was by far the best contractor. Howard and Sons did a superbe job removing the old roof and installing new roof shingles, five skylights, and gutters. During the roof installation, they found some damaged facia boards and some termite damage and they also replaced that wood. Everyone, who comes to our house says WOW! One man installing Cox Cable said he could not believe our home was 41 years old. I worked as a carpenter for 10 years and have installed roofs. I know a lot about putting on a roof and the crew from Howard and Sons are top-notch hard-working craftsmen. They know how to do the job right, because there is a lot more to putting on a good roof than just nailing shingles. Howard & Sons Roofing is an excellent company. Not only are the workers polite, efficient, and professional, but when you call them you can speak to an outstanding representative (Cesar). Their work is excellent. I had a solar panel system installed which required them to remove all the clay tiles from one side of my roof. They re-papered that part of the roof and installed an asphalt shingle roof; then they returned after the solar panels (26 of them) were installed and put back the clay tiles around those panels, framing them. It looks great! I would recommend Howard & Sons to anyone considering having roofing work done. I was looking for a roofer to do an estimate on a house I'm currently in escrow for. I contacted Howard and Sons around 10pm on Thursday evening, asking if they could come out at soon as possible. I received a message less than an hour later trying to schedule a time for Friday! I was so happy with the flexibility and courteous service I received from Howard and Sons! Cesar came out to the house on Friday morning and completed a total inspection of the roof. He was honest and detailed and let us know there were a few ceramic tiles that needed replacement and happily FIXED the cracked tiles for free! Cesar Peinado, H & Sons San Diego County Regional Manager, a veteran like me, was very professional and extremely helpful, he and his team did a very thorough roof inspection and found the true source of the leaks (which the solar company had not). Cesar provided great details and pictures. He responded at all hours to my texts and emails. He saved me money by creating a plan so only the necessary parts of the roof needed to be replaced, and even helped speak to my insurance company with me, which resulted in me getting reimbursed for thousands of dollars more than they previously had told me. Then the lead installer, also named Cesar, came out and did extra things like chalking a line and meeting the solar people (who had to remove and change solar mounts) so they did their job correctly, so the roofing could be done right.
