We recently had dinner at the Atlantic Grill in Rye, NH. The outside patio is beautiful- a great place to eat on a nice day. Service was good- our waitress was prompt and polite, but curt. The food was OK. The seafood chowder was very good- seasoned well and full of fresh seafood. The calamari was OK- the seasoning was fine, but the flavor was one-note, and the marinara with it was lukewarm, and not very interesting. The mussels with chorizo were OK as well; with so much chorizo, that's all that you could taste. The most disappointing part of the meal was the value: two drinks, two appetizers, and two cups of chowder for $65. If the food was great, it wouldn't be an issue, but with the food being as mediocre as it was, it left us wishing that we had gone to one of the many other great places in the area. read more

We stopped here for a quick lunch on a cold winter Sunday since we drive past it quite often and have wanted to give it a try. The building is relatively new and very nicely decorated. We were seated immediately at a high top in the bar area and given menus. Many yummy sounding items on the menu, but our eyes went to the lobster roll and seafood chowder combo---I think it was called Tall Ship, but not positive. We ordered and our food was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The chowder was delicious---thick and full of yummy seafood. Loved it! The lobster roll was a good size with big chunks of lobster and no filler! It was a little bland and definitely could have used a little mayo. Probably should have asked for some, but didn't. Would I order the lobster roll again? Probably not, but would definitely get the chowder again. Service was ok. Didn't see much of our server, but that was ok. Might return if in the area, but there are many, many wonderful restaurants in the Portsmouth area. read more

We have been looking to try this place for a while. There were eight people in our party which can make for a difficult experience The Decor was very nice and we chose it sit inside as it was a bit chilly outside. The waitstaff were helpful and attentive and there was something on the menu for everyone. One of the managers stopped by to check on us which I appreciated. They waitstaff brought out two meals and said the rest would follow which I am in favor of so everyone gets hot food. Unfortunately that was not the case and half the meals arrived barely warm bordering on cold. The fried haddock was piping hot but the Salmon was cold. I think the problem was in the kitchen as the waiters were delivering meals as they were ready and it was not overly busy. I had a bowl of French onion soup which had good flavor but was not hot. Dear Atlantic Grill, Why can't you be a better restaurant? I want to like you so much because we are neighbors. But every time I decide to give you another try, I am always disappointed. You just don't seem to understand the meaning of "flavor". A nice plate of fish with breadcrumbs, potatoes, and veggie arrives totally unseasoned. No herbs or spice anywhere to be found or tasted. It is no fun paying for bland. And please do not tell me the potatoes are "roasted" when they are clearly deep fried. That is just not fair. A surreptitious scan around me at nearby plates of food, only serves to give the same consensus. That there is no real chef in the house, only a cook who is not up to the task of delivering something worthy of your high prices. I really did try to make it work out. I drive by the Atlantic Grill each morning, and witnessed the entire build. I was rather pleased that there would be a place about a mile from New Castle. Well, so far three meals, one good, one fair and one horrible. The chef is clearly not up to the job. One of the dishes, a combo of fish in a floury moray sauce, should have never made it out of the kitchen. The only thing worse than the taste was its dissecated appearance with a skin/film over the sauce. Fried haddock not bad. Pasta in one dish tasted more like mashed potatoes than the mashed potatoes did. The bar area is quite pleasant, with an elderly Rye contingent. Many televisions, and the drinks were good, as was the beer selection. Prices were quite high. After three trips, I may return, especially if the menu and chef revamped. Service was quite good, and apologetic ("I hate bringing things back to the kitchen all the time"). read more

Please know, I would give them a FIVE for safety practices here, but the food.... We ordered the seafood chowder for an appetizer, it was like mud, literally as think at mud. Dinner, I ordered the lobster roll, it was very good, fries were hot. I am going to say I am not sure what was up with the ketchup, very funky taste (maybe they make their own). We also ordered the baked haddock. It had to be frozen piece of haddock, it was grey, and no flavor at all. There should have been sum butter on the breadcrumbs or something to give it flavor. The veggies were okay (definitely left from last night), but the mashed potatoes were a downright shame. They were so watery that they were not even an 1/2 inch on the plate. We were both shocked that they served this meal to him. Our waitress was great, and the hostesses were great. But for $93.00 with a tip, NOPE! First of all this review is long overdue! The management invited our party of 7 for a do-over to make-up for a very disappointing visit a month earlier. We're happy that they did. Our experience was a great improvement, particularly in service! Our server was very attentive and took great care in explaining the new menu items and in answering our many questions. She was attentive and effective without being over zealous. Our table shared the charcuterie platter and thoroughly enjoyed it. Appetizers such as the crab cakes and lobster salad were equally successful. My entree and my wife's - both seafood dishes- were wonderful. Only the two of our party who had pasta dishes weren't quite as well satisfied. Most of us ordered the outstanding (and large) bananas foster for dessert, which was one of the best renditions of the dessert we have had. Still kind of a disappointment, but 4+ stars for ambiance and service. We reluctantly returned with friends who hadn't tried it yet. It was a beautiful night so we ate on the patio. It was perfect!! We then ordered the seafood tower, ($90), and when it arrived, it had been assembled incorrectly so the entire top portion, (oysters, shrimp, sauces, etc), ended up on the table. We're an easy going group and so it didn't bother us. Plus they didn't hesitate to bring a new top tier. That being said, everyone agreed that none of the lobster or shrimp had any flavor.... As if it had been frozen for quite some time. I don't eat shellfish so I am just going by what the other three said. I ordered the chicken with chantrells. It was a busy plate, to say the least, but the chicken was cooked perfectly. Others had the lobster roll.... Same reaction my husband had when he first had it. Bland as hell. We tried this restaurant during NH restaurant week and were pleasantly surprised by how great the food was. Everything we ordered was fresh and so delicious! We are excited to have this gem right in our neighborhood. It is sure to be busy this summer with the beach tourists and it seems ready for the season. Only complaint was that it still smelled very much of fresh paint which was overwhelming at first. Once we got used to that I would say it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this place. I finally found time to go to this restaurant and was hoping the food would be better than their other restaurant but Nope! Breaded bland fish, white potatoes with no flavor, very pricey wine list and then they started spraying the surrounding tables before we were done our meal because they were closing up. I went into Atlantic grill today with my parents for lunch. We sat at the bar where Ryan (I believe that was his name) was very attentive and inviting. The bloody Marys were delicious and the beer was cold. The seafood chowder was one of the best we've ever had and the lobster rolls were great too! I got the Asian noodles with smoked salmon which was also very good. Our only disappointment was that we hadn't tried AG years ago when they first opened because we believed some bad reviews that we heard. We'll definitely be back! read more

The staff was very friendly and attentive. My husband and I sat in the main dinning room, and it was very cold and felt like an upscale nursing home. The bar area seemed to be more cozy and eye appealing. Our meal wasn't anything grand. To be honest I would rather go downtown if I'm going to pay those prices. My boyfriend and I drove up from boston to have dinner and will make the drive again in a heart beat. This is a beautiful and spacious restaurant with very friendly staff and management. Their food is fairly standard for a high end seafood but the flavoring twists were phenomenal. This is a great addition to the Rye community! It is nice that they have finally done something with that corner. I came here a few weeks ago for dinner and sat at a high top table in the lounge. The jelly fish tank was really cool and they have a nice fireplace..the bar is huge! I got the statler chicken which was tasty and a generous portion (they also have really good rolls!). I do wish that they had a drink menu though, but I think they are working on it. Korina was our waitress and she provided great service. Oof. Where to start. Their lobster dip was phenomenal. Drinks were great. Service was good, but it was clear that servers were over-worked. I was thirsty a few times and couldn't find someone to help. Asian chicken salad was really drenched in dressing, I'd definitely recommend having it on the side. Also it was very spicy. We ordered chowder to go as well- to eat that evening. The staff packed our chowder in a big plastic container with bags of ice to keep it cold until we got home- what service! We had a great experience at Atlantic Grill with my wife and two young kids (age 5 & 7). This restaurant gets five stars from me for being brave enough to serve Kraft Mac & Cheese. Our kids never like the gourmet mac & cheese that most restaurants serve so the fact Atlantic Grill gets that is huge in my eyes. Thanks you Atlantic Grill for that. The restaurant gets more child-friendly bonus points for supplying a table full of kids books for children to read. Never seen that before - that was great. My wife started with the chowder which was one of the best she's ever had. Kids and I split the edamame with fried shallots - also very tasty. Wife had the Lobster Roll which was average. We moved to the area a little more than a year ago, we have had the opportunity to sample most of the establishments in the area. This is the best balance of price vs. quality in the area only rivaled by a couple of (more expensive) restaurant/bars in downtown Portsmouth. Given our close proximity to the Atlantic, it is increasingly our go-to place for a meal or a drink with apps. We have tried much of the menu (which changes regularly) the wife's favorite is the Asian Noodle Salad, for me, the Australian Lamb chops.Their seafood is second to none, favorites for apps: the crab cakes and PEI Mussels, entree: Scallops, Salmon or Tuna. I have not yet tried their beef, tomorrow is another day. It gets crowded during the high season, if it is a destination, call first or make reservations. The patio usually has seating, but it is, of course, weather dependent. read more

Good food, nice layout. we were seated too close to the a/c and asked to move, no problem. we had appetizers, mussels (delicious), crab cakes ( delicious ), crab leg steamed (good, overpriced). entrees were lobster, which we asked to have lazy man style and they accommodated with no issue or extra charge, mussels (again delicious), scallops withcorn pudding and heb gnocchi (delicious, though the gnocchi got lost abit in the mushrooms ). our server, Tiffany, was great, she was fun, but not overbearing. the manager came around and asked how dinner was; we commented on the pricing of the crab appetizer and she discounted the bill for that item. overall, very nice restaurant, service was good, new place so they are adjusting. pricey, but worth a try. we will go back again. read more

We eat here occasionally and always find the staff to be very good and the facility to be clean and inviting. However, I always find myself disappointed with the food. The menu seems limited (pre-COVID as well) and the preparation is OK, but nothing special. I would expect more fresh seafood choices given the location - not more salmon. So disappointed in restaurant. Have been there before and loved food and service. Went last night and service was cranky and food was awful. My husbands salmon was way over cooked and dry my halibut was cold and mashed potatoes looked like lumpy tapioca. Scampi dish was all pasta with no scampi. Would definitely not recommend. read more

Very small entrees portions. The salmon was an inch 1/4 wide served with 5 halves of Brussels spouts. Ridiculous... My husband and daughter got it and felt that they both had a half meal, The filet was tiny, as well, 6ox suppose to be 8 as all the sides, minuscule. Two of us got haddock. Very small piece, little bread crumb topping and about 5 tiny bites of sweet potato hash with a few pieces of broccolini crown. We also got chicken tenders there were 4 pieces for 14$. I know it is covid but I was very disappointed in the portions. We actually left there and went somewhere else for appetizers and drinks. We were still hungry, it was a an awful experience, I think that if people are spending money they should leave a restaurant full even during covid. We frequent the restaurant and live in Boston, not sure we will be back. read more
