This was an amazing experience. I have lived in Portsmouth my entire life but never made it to this restaurant before and I'm so glad on a whim I decided to try it out. The food was fantastic and our server was amazing! The mussels were to die for; especially with the riverside view of the Piscataqua. I will certainly be returning and highly recommend to any seafood lovers:)

My husband and I had an amazing time here during our vacation in Portsmouth. We ordered steamed lobsters, and they were so fresh and so delicious. The portions were great, too. The staff was so attentive and professional. We also enjoyed a beautiful view. It was such a beautiful dinner date! We would come back if we visit Portsmouth again.

Surf Restaurant, Portsmouth, NH We enjoyed the view and dinner at Surf Restaurant, especially the sesame seared tuna, crisply garlic & tuna, and maple bourbon glazed salmon. The baked trio dinner was overdone and bland; chocolate mousse cake for dessert made up for it. Restaurant has a nice beer and wine list. Service was good.

Thank you to our friends who got us a gift card for this restaurant. The place was soo good from the service and it being right on the water here in Portsmouth. The ambiance depends on which side you sit on I truly believe and if you're at the bar or table. But overall no matter where they have an opening for you, you'll enjoy their food for sure. We started off with the calamari and crab Rangoon dip. The calamari was great but the dip was a so so. I didn't taste any chucks of crab which I thought I would but the calamari was good perfectly. For dinner we ordered sushi since we were craving it and got the red dragon which is spicy tuna, tuna sashimi, spicy mayo and sriracha. This was a really good one as it reminded us of spicy tuna back in NV. The crazy tasting sushi roll was the pressed spicy oshi tuna which is garlic crunch, jalapeño, tamari, spicy mayo, with a shiso leaf. You eat the sushi with the leaf and the leaf has a very unique flavor but went so well with the peace of sushi. I also ordered the crème brûlée which was mad sour of pineapples and coconut. I really loved this dessert being from Hawaii, it reminded me of home every bite I took. I'll definitely be back fkr sure. If you're looking for a nice evening out with your significant other be sure to bring them here. You won't be disappointed.

Surf is one of my favorite restaurants in Portsmouth. First of all, the views of Old Harbor are unbeatable from the deck and window seats. I love grabbing some seafood here and looking out over the water - it's such a classic New England experience. I also love the menu here. It's very seafood-centric, with only a few non-seafood mains, which just makes sense when you have that that kind of access to fresh fish right on the ocean. The fish here is always extremely fresh and cooked extremely well. They also offer a nice sushi menu. Today I ordered a Lobster Christina, which is my favorite item here. The lobster was tender, small, cooked perfectly, and then smothered in a delicious creamy pink sauce. We also ordered mussels to share, which come in a decadent butter and wine sauce , with crispy baguette to dip. The service here is also very kind and helpful . They're always willing to do simple substitutions (sometimes I get my Lobster Christina over linguine instead of rice ).

The steak and lobster at this place was so amazing that while in vacation I ate it twice. I usually don't make a habit of 100 dollar dinners every day but I couldn't leave without having it again. The warm shrimp toast appetizer was delicious as well. The entire menu looks great and all the staff were friendly and accommodating. If in Portsmouth I'd definitely add this to your dining list. You can even eat outside on the balcony above the water. Parking is like anything else in Portsmouth. Got to use the lot across the street and pay or walk from elsewhere.

Food amazing, service excellent, location fantastic. We were sat by the water front and the ambiance was second to none! I will certainly go back! Even though we did not book a table they kindly made room for us.

Good sushi AND lobster make this an absolute no-brainer in the area! Delightful atmosphere and exceptional service are the true draws here. The food is pretty good but not really great. Their lobster rolls have little flavor to them but the lobster is well cooked. Their cocktails are fun and varied which make for a nice addition to the meal. The prices are a bit higher than the quality would dictate, as they seem to focus more on presentation than flavor. 25% lower prices would be more in line with what you get here. It's worth a try when you are in the area, but be prepared for challenging parking options that are VERY pricey, even in the off season ($16 for two hours, or you WILL be towed)

We were immediately seated at 4:30pm on a Wed. They do not take reservations unless it's for a party of 6+. If you can get a table or a booth with the view of the water, that's the best! The raw bar sampler usually comes on 1 tower but we managed to have it split. The Wicked Awesome Tuna roll was delicious. They certainly take pride in their presentation. My cocktail was about $15. The rough avg cost for sushi rolls is about $21. The sampler was $62. Ultimately, on the pricier side but worth it. It's a classy place with options for water, as well (i.e. sparkling, flat or tap).

Best surf and turf in Portsmouth, NH!! Of you are able to snag a table on the deck overlooking the water. DO IT!!! Delicious filet with chive mashed and asparagus. Yummy clam chowder! Sushi! Seafood, steaks. Lots of excellent choices. Friendly, helpful and accommodating waitstaff. Good cocktails. An enjoyable experience while visiting the NH coast city. Location! Location!!

I had the caprese chicken sandwich, which had grilled pesto chicken, mozzarella, and roasted tomatoes served on a focaccia bun. I subbed a side salad, which was a bit overdressed, for the default French fries. The sandwich was huge! So huge that it was difficult to eat as a handheld item. It tasted pretty good, though. The salmon bites were over saturated in sauce so much so that the panko was soggy, the pan seared scallops were decent but I found the bacon jam to be too sweet paired with the scallops. We could not flag down our waiter any of the times we needed her and every time we asked someone else for help they'd leave and not come back. When it started raining and we needed to move indoors she was gone for so long she was surprised when she returned and we had already had been helped inside by another staff member. We ended the meal when she said she'd come back with water only to disappear and we ended up asking another waitress for the check, and she redirected it back to our waitress, who finally came back with no water. The restaurant was by no means full so I'm not sure what the large gaps in service was, and at one point my friend noticed the waitresses chatting in the kitchen while we were craning our necks. I'd only come back to order the seafood chowder as the rest of the dishes weren't good enough to make up for this.

The server kept running away, no time to give feedback. More attention to our plates and our ordering, than for us and our experience. Note to the wise: ask both people how their food is, and with enough time/follow up than only immediately after getting the dish. The tuna was very bland, it needed salt. I got the beef medallions. Though the beef itself was very good, the entire dish came off like a TV dinner - the sauce was supposed to be peppercorn. It was not. It degraded the entire dish, horribly. So sad for the elements to be buried in that slop. Potatoes were also very odd. For the price we paid, I would rather have had my money back and give my husband a much better birthday experience for somewhere else. Honestly devastating, and definitely cannot guarantee a recommendation from me, if this restaurant is not only inconsistent, but such a waste of so much money. Sad to think we could have enjoyed better food at a "lesser" establishment. Would much prefer to get my money back, at least for the entrees. WAYY overpaid. This was not worth it.

We also ordered the mussels, which were a standout -- especially the mustard component. I wouldn't have expected mustard to pair so well with mussels, but it absolutely worked and added a surprising depth of flavor. There was also a chicken dumpling special that was comforting, well-seasoned, and very satisfying. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The service at the bar was fantastic. The lobster rolled was not dressed like what you'd usually find in New England. In fact, it was lightly seasoned and allowed you to taste the sweetness of lobster meat itself and how perfectly cooked it was! You can't hide quality when serving it almost bare like this that it's a purist's dream! Dang, I can't stop thinking about! The shrimp sandwich was another simple culinary delight executed well. Perfectly cooked shrimp, dressed lightly, on a nicely toasted buttered brioche with crisp lettuce and tomatoes. I inhaled this just as quickly with my eyes rolling with every bite. Dang it again. The gluten-free clam chowder was a great way to finish off this quick meal. Perfectly balanced, tasty, salted perfectly, and loaded with chunky clams. What a way to warm up in this NE chilly weather this time of year. Without even trying their other fresh seafood options, they've already made it to my list of must-visits when in the area.
