I've tried so many lobster rolls on my trips to the Northeast and Petey's jumbo cold roll wins hands down. They use super fresh, long buns. I highly recommend getting the jumbo, as the normal roll comes on a round roll which is much smaller. The cold roll has the crunchiest, juiciest, freshest lobster mixed with a bit of mayo and thinly sliced shallots. The lobster to bread ratio is HIGH and you can really taste the fresh lobster. The bottom of the roll is also coated with shredded lettuce. The lettuce is an awesome touch, as it keeps the roll from getting soggy and also adds an additional fresh crunch. The location of Petey's is awesome as well. It's located right on a little stream that leads to the beach. My favorite thing to do is bring a cold Petey's roll to the beach on a hot summer day. The service is also excellent, making this my #1 lobster roll spot when I'm visiting the Northeast. read more

It's Monday and an absolutely beautiful Sunny day to take a ride up scenic Rt.1A, along the Seacoast, to our favorite Seafood joint, Petey's! We only come here once a year for our fried Seafood fix and this time we got here right after they opened at 11:30a, otherwise, you may not get a parking spot! Parking is very limited, and if you can, go during the week when it's less crowded! We started out with a Blue Moon and Sam Summer on Draft! Reasonably priced at $6.50 ea. My Partner was graving some Onion Rings and I a cup of Clam Chowder! Our Waitress brought the Rings and Chowder first! When it comes to the Onion Rings there were a few good ones that were on top and hanging of the edge, see pic, but the rest of them were just to thin and a greasy stringy fried mess, way to thin to pick up, enjoy, and dip in Ketchup! Certainly not worth the $10 price! I saved a picture, that I found online, of what a properly fried order of Onion Rings should look like, see below, compared to the Petey's Onion Rings! Now, my first impression of the Clam Chowder! I've never ordered the Clam Chowder at Petey's but it ended up being disappointment number two! After the first plastic spoon full it was more like Clam Soup, thin and not a thick a creamy chowder with succulent pieces of Clams as expected, instead there were just a few shredded tiny pieces of clams and mostly potatoes! Yuk! One of the worst Clam Chowder's I've ever had and I've had a lot of Clam Chowder's in my 60 years of living in New England! The person who makes this Chowder definitely needs a lesson in making a good Clam Chowder! How can they even serve this? They have 2 sizes a small for $8.60 and a medium for $9, only a .40 cent difference, which I found odd! Ok, it wasn't all bad! My Partner enjoyed her Fish (Haddock) and Chips and I my usual Combo of Scallops and Haddock! Most of everything that we've ordered, in the past, at Petey's, has always been good but if you go, do yourself a favor and skip the the disappointing Onion Rings and Clam Chowder and you'll save $19 bucks off your Tab! Great ocean side restaurant with outdoor area that welcomes dogs. Big thumbs up for dog-friendly. Broiled haddock was superb. Only give it 3 stars because not a lot of menu options for gluten sensitive diners (of which I am one). The menu is heavy on fried seafood and at least did have several broiled options. read more

Cute little seafood shack. It's very confusing to find where to sit. There is upstairs seating which is a separate hostess. There is a downstairs restaurant which has a hostess, then a bar area and then a takeout area. The service wasn't great. It was slow and we never got drink refills. A beautiful sunny fall day so we decided to go for a drive and have a seafood dinner. We have been a Petey's before because of their fresh and good quality seafood. Service had been just ok before but this time we were lucky to get Kathy as a server and that made the experience even better. She was super attentive and friendly despite a busy restaurant but she took the time to personalize our visit and to make suggestions. Steamers were great! For my main course I ordered broiled haddock and sea scallops with rice pilaf and coleslaw. Food is served in paper plates and drinks out of plastic cups but you get real silverware. I liked my dinner choice and portion size was good. They have parking on site but can be challenging since they are very busy but if you wait long enough you are likely to get a spot. read more

Peteys had a fun vibe to the experience and the setting is absolutely gorgeous! I appreciated the dining in the rough outside and taking in the nearby ocean air. The food was solid. I had the fried clam and scallop plate which had sizeable portions and the tarter sauce was incredible. My group raved about the coleslaw and that also held up. There were a few downsides. The chowder was a hearty portion but personally I felt it lacked a bit of flavor. The takeout window also screwed up our order and overcharged us - this was quickly corrected. They did mispackage some of the food with the table next to us - again corrected, but probably could've been avoided with a bit more intention. The parking is also difficult. Obviously it is a popular spot but the lot overflows onto the roadway which is a bit dangerous to walk alongside, especially as the sun begins to set. Overall I would definitely be back. The menu has seemingly limitless options and I hope to try some others next summer. read more

Fish and chips were good but nothing to write home about. Since the wife and I had been away for a while, we decided to give Petey's takeout another try. Unfortunately, the young lady taking orders failed miserably. She asked three times what chowder was being requested and was told three more times that it was Fish Chowder. My wife had ordered Fish Chowder with extra crackers, and I ordered their haddock sandwich with extra catsup for the fries. We parked along the ocean to have our picnic with Petey's food. My wife's fish chowder ended up being Seafood Chowder that contained Small Shrimp and large potatoes with no flavor. There is a bit of a view here. It's like 3 different restaurants in one. The indoor dining area doesn't have any appeal to me, we considered the upstairs bar / porch area but ultimately chose the outdoor takeout service. This is a nice option with clean shaded picnic tables because you can BYOB and don't have to deal with wait staff. The food was good. 2 of us got baked dinners they were good. My son enjoyed his mayo style lobster roll. Haddock sandwhich was good. Everything was served in styrofoam which I don't love. Been here quite a few times over the years and Petey's never disappoints. On a recent visit, our waitress quickly notified us that we needed to get our orders in quickly as it was about 45 min from closing time and she made sure we all got the lobsters we wanted. Yum! I had the full bellies and oyster fried combo. It was really good! Still not as good as Bigelow's clams in Rockville Center, NY, but dang good! We opted to go to the take-out window and eat outside by the canal. It was really nice and the flowers were beautiful. Sitting out there you can really smell the salty ocean air, and it was glorious! My only "complaint" if you could even call it that is that I couldn't get ice for my "ice" water, which I thought was really weird. I bet if I'd gone into the restaurant and sat down I could've had ice for my water but whatever. That was so inconsequential considering how great everything else was. I have been coming to Petey's for years, ever since discovering seafood chowder based on a recommendation. They have consistently provided good food, with varying levels of service. Tonight I was craving steamers and a nice sized lobster so decided to visit them. The steamers, as usual, were absolutely delicious. No sand and they were perfectly cooked for a succulent bite! I elected to get a larger 2-1/2 lb lobster. This did not disappoint. The cook kindly broke the large claws and the tail for me! Just another example of the great service I often receive when going here. The baked potato was cooked perfectly, soft and moist on the inside. The Cole slaw is by far the best available in the area. Although they have a bar and a porch area upstairs for those times you come right from the beach, I prefer the dining room where it's still okay to get messy while eating your meal. I stopped by on a September Saturday around noon and there were loads of seats available upstairs at the bar. Service was nice and quick, and food came out in 15-20 min. I ordered the Caesar salad with shrimp, which was well dressed and seasoned, and the small fried whole belly clams, which were fine. It was a good meal, but not quite $50 lunch good (before tip). Went to Petey's for our yearly visit. The steamers were so good! The location is beautiful. Our bartender Michael was incredibly knowledgeable and interesting. Truck was adorable! He was fun and pleasant. Recommend! Only complaint is the clam chowder tasted like a sugar cookie. We're not sure what they added to it, but they need to eliminate it. read more

Such a great spot for some amazing seafood!!! The service was on point and the ambiance is beach themed of course since this restaurant is next to the water. Now let's get to the food.. We started off with fried calamari which we loved especially since it comes with the rings and tentacles. I ordered the pick two and I picked scallops and clam strips and boy was I happy. The fried scallops were so delicious and juicy and this was the highlight of our night. My friend ordered the fried lobster tail and that was the second highlight of the night. We had a nice time here. My daughter and I opted to sit upstairs and it was beautiful. Our waitress was quiet, but very pleasant, and the food was quite good. We both ordered clam strips, which were done perfectly, came out quickly, and tasted delicious. The coleslaw is definitely quite creamy, but the flavor was really nice. The fries were good, too. They were thicker than I normally like but they didn't taste dried out or mushy. I loved the tartar here. It was alot like the kraft type. We did order drinks which were probably the biggest disappointment. My daughter got the pirate one and I ordered the watermelon basil. They were good, not great, and from the size would have thought them to be much bigger. I'd spend maybe 8 dollars at most if I'd known, not 15. We finished with dessert which was obviously frozen yet quite good. I had the lemon cake and she had the key lime. Our bill was just under 100 dollars. So the food was so divine that we ate it before receipt take photos. He had Lobster Pie & I had broiled haddock & sea scallops. Truth be told, I'm not a shellfish gal....but had bites of the lobster (so fresh, so good!) and a couple scallops (yum!) ...we both had a baked potato & coleslaw. Creamy & delish. Got there about 7:30 after taking about 1/2 hour to park the car. Popular spot with very limited parking. We were informed immediately the restaurant closed promptly at 8:00 (during the height of their busy season?) The place is dated, the service, well, the focus was on getting out of there, not serving food. The food is very good, not exceptional, but very good. I had a combo plate, it was hot, fresh, properly seasoned, and all components of the plate were well done, including the tartar sauce. If you want fried seafood and really don't care about anything else, this is your place. If you care about the quality of your dining experience, not the place. read more

I haven't been to this place probably since high school (about 32yrs ago...lol) & I even went to highschool with the owner. I always do a lunch day with my Mom when I'm in NH visiting & this was one of the places she suggested. I wanted a lobster roll so I agreed to this place. We were seated right away, it was busy for a Monday afternoon (Mom said it was probably a lot of tourist) & it actually wasn't raining the day we went....lol I don't remember the place having the little dining room when I was last in here. Our older waitress was OK, not very sociable nor much a personality. She came over to get a drink order. I ordered their onion rings & lobster bisque as appetizers. Onion rings are homemade. Batter is thin & same as the onions. I don't like them when the batter is super thick. They were very tasty. The bisque wasn't bad either but I was hoping for some lobster pieces & only had small tiny specs in there but a friend told me bisque doesn't have pieces of lobster in it. :-/ I saw 2 different sizes of their lobster roll on the menu & asked what the difference was the ounces wasn't listed on the menu. I decided to go with the larger size. (Smaller would of worked) It doesn't come on a hot dog roll but some type of round bun. I asked the waitress if the bun is buttered & grilled and she told me "yes" but it didn't come out that way. No butter, no crispiness to it which is my favorite part of a lobster roll....lol It was very good but I could only eat 1/2 of it so I got a to-go box for the leftover. Oh, their coleslaw is AMAZING!!! If you like Kentucky Fried Chicken's coleslaw that's what theirs's taste like. Has a nice, soft sweet taste to it. $3.00 for a pretty good side size but I had to take it home. Mom had the scallop dinner & thought it was good. I was really surprised because my Mom spent about $30 for her meal with drink and that's expensive for her but she had no problem going here & paying that. She has been here before so she knows how good their food is. The decor inside & outside is nice. Not a fancy restaurant, more of a casual place. Next time I'm home I'd like to come here again & grab a drink at their bar. The female bathrooms were a little ghetto & run down..............it could use a remodeling. It seems like whenever we go, which is often, the time between ordering and delivery flashes out of the kitchen its seems at warp speed. I'm not complaining.
