Laid back and good vibes here, plenty of outdoor seating and some seating in a grass area, there were several kids utilizing this space when we walked up so we sat at the bar! Stopped in for coffee and left disappointed. The coffee tasted watered down, my wife ordered a hot drink and was given an iced one instead, and the music was so loud that it made it difficult to place an order at the window. I suspect the noise may have contributed to the order mix-up. The location is nice, but the overall experience didn't live up to expectations. read more

I got the pork bowl and it was TERRIBLE and expensive ($15). The plain white rice was gluey and tasteless, the tiny pieces of the VERY small portion of pork were so overcooked they were like little pieces of leather and the serving of guacamole was maybe one level tablespoon. It was a lazy Wednesday afternoon.... I had not yet eaten breakfast.... Brunch hour had creeped up on me so what did I do? I rode my Yamaha Vstar 650 to Kooks. Upon arrival the Kook bowl immediately caught my eye.... I ordered it.... It arrived.... I dug in! Needless to say my mind was blown. As I enjoyed this kook bowl I turned my attention to some light reading materials.... THE TACO MENU.... I wasn't very hungry but once i noticed the chicken corn taco I knew that There were no two ways about it.... I had to have it!!! Once again my mind had been absolutely blown... The bowl: A hit!!!! Food I've had: smoothie, muffin, iced latte and açaí type bowl- all pretty delicious and kind of pricy but to be expected with menu and location. Service- maybe I've been unlucky but the service has never been friendly. I hate to tell someone to smile because you never know what is going on with someone but with multiple visits here and being treated like I am an annoyance at the window is tough. I didn't even get a thank you or have a good day on all three visits. I don't take it personally but yikes- not a good feeling! Service here is seriously lacking. I don't understand how you can mismanage such a small place. Visited a handful of times & each time it's a task to get your order taken. Not busy & waited a while to order & over 30 min to get our drinks. Starving & we all wanted sandwiches but nope, no bread!?! Today, sat down inside right by the bar. Only wanted a couple of drinks on a sunny afternoon. Nope, again. Sat there looking around for our waitress. No employee would make eye contact. No, "welcome". No, "we'll be right with you."Nothing. Bar seating was full & so insteas of asking bartender, I had to interrupt a waitress at the checkout to see how to place our order. I had to interrupt as they WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE US. So bizarre. She apologized & said she would be right with us. Why did I have to get up & ask her when she's literally standing one foot away? & guess what, 15min later, no waitress. We were there for 30+ min. Absolutely ridiculous. Mgmt needs to learn how to manage & maybe train the employees & maybe hire enough employees to take care of customers. The food is super lacking, too. Surf films always playing in the background with a breezy open concept bar. Situated right across from beach access makes it easy to grab quick snacks and cafe meals on the go. I've passed by this venue countless times without stopping. So deciding on a new place to try, their website & FB page looked interesting. Last night we were a group of 7. The bar area is quite small, but Uber cool. I'm not sure if it was just the day - or hour we arrived, but 1 bartender serving everyone. So it took some time to order. I decided on something very different for me - a" Rye Tai" and it was excellent. Others in my party ordered from their cocktail list and we're pleased. We sat at outside tables and the weather was perfect. After some time we ordered food. Most had tacos or mixed bowls. I ordered plantains - again excellent. My only issue & why only 4 stars was the absolutely disgusting port-a- potty situation. I won't go into detail to spare anyone who reads this , but you definitely need more management with whatever company they contract with. This for us was a unacceptable & definite drawback. We would have stayed longer = spent more $$$. But no way. read more

I don't recommend, had high hopes. I went to kooks June 15th for an acai bowl with a friend. When ordering I had decided to get "the barne (mango acai and peach) instead of peach maybe dragon fruit" turns out they ran out of frozen mango and to make a bowl they have premade fruit mixes. Also, I decided to order a side of chips and salsa. When picking up my order they had a pretty presentation but then proceeded to let me know that they ran out of chips and salsa. Not sure how they can run out if they also are known for serving tacos too. The açaí is served blended with fresh fruit and granola on it. I noticed that they did have mango on top but if they had some why couldn't they blend it with my açaí or freeze it for future orders. When I got the acai it was pretty melted and only was able to eat half before it turned into soup. My friend also ordered an acai bowl and a cappuccino with a little cinnamon. When she got her bowl and drink, they looked good but when sipping the cappuccino it was cold... it tasted like they made burnt espresso then poured milk on top and forgot to steam it. She let them know it was cold and they remade it. The second time the milk was over steamed it burned the mouth and along with that the espresso was super burnt and the cappuccino was undrinkable. Her açaí bowl look pretty but upon eating it the base tasted funny turns out they put the cinnamon in the BOWL! She was very clean that she wanted the cinnamon in the coffee. read more

This is exactly what the town of Rye needed. This is the ideal beach shop cafe. TACOS, smoothies, açai bowls, coffee and so much more. It is attached to a former beach shop with board rentals (not sure this is an option due to COVID). These are the first authentic fried plantains I've found in the area. 10/10 would recommend stopping by if you're coasting down 1A. Tons of parking is a huge plus as well!! read more

Okay, my review is only for breakfast and due to their social media advertising, I was really looking forward to eating here. Pro's: Great atmosphere, cool vibe and excellent service. Con's: I ordered the breakfast tacos and was very very disappointed. The menu reads - two egg/cheese/bacon/bbq sauce taco's. So I figure it will be enough. When the order came out it was one fried egg cut in half and served onto a cold flour tortilla with cold cheese and a sprinkle of bacon (i.e. not even a half a piece of bacon). I took a few bites and literally threw it out. My girlfriend ordered a breakfast sandwich and the muffin was cooked perfectly, but cheese was not melted and there was not much egg at all. I assume that people come for the bowls/smoothies and or lunch. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on that. But that was quite possibly the worst breakfast taco/sandwiches I have ever had. read more
