We started with naan bread and the Atithi special platter. We had the Tandoori Haryali Shrimp and Chicken Tiki and Garlic naan bread as well. For entrees we had the Chicken Korma, Shrimp Curry and Tandoori Chicken. You can order these dishes, mild, spicy and very spicy. Having done takeout and dine in, dine in wins. Service is overall decent, although mildly awkward at times. The interior is colorful and immersive - as if you're transported away from Brooklyn. Food comes out piping hot and super tasty. Although we ordered mild for everything (mainly due to having a two year old), there were definitely hints of heat, which honestly was fantastic for me - I can only imagine what spicy would be. Met our daughter in Williamsburg. Wanted something other than Mediterranean as that is what we will be having for the next two days. Welcome Atithi Indian Cuisine. Loved the complimentary pappadums while we waited. The lentil wafers paired so nicely with the dipping sauces. The tamarind chutney was tangy with a hint of sweetness. The mint chutney is a vibrant blend of fresh mint, cilantro, green chilies, and spices. It has a bit of a kick. Ordered a lamb entree and a veggie korma to share. The lamb rogan josh was so rich. The lamb was so tender. It was served in a rich curry sauce infused with cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg. So fragrant. The vegie korma was full of vegetables in a delicious creamy, almond and cashew nut sauce. Delicious! The garlic naan and the cheese naan paired perfectly with our curries. Save your $50 for another place. The prix menu has a good selection but the food was awful. I tried others' entrees and not good Indian food. The chicken tikka masala, goat curry and saag paneer were incredibly let downs .... The chicken in my tikka masala was mushy texture which makes me queasy to wonder how one gets mushy chicken. The goat curry was the better of the three entrees. The saag paneer flavors were super muddy and wasn't really flavorful. I saw a lot of takeout from this place but honestly, I didn't like the food. The naan was very fresh and smelled wonderful so maybe just eat naan ! Service was attentive and quickly but definitely just stick to little Indian in manhattan... Solid Indian food on Grand. We tried the appetizer platter, Chana masala, chicken tikka, shrimp korma, naans and the mango lassi. Everything was tasty, portions were good, only note is that the spice level is inconsistent. We ordered medium for each of them but they were varying levels of heat, which made it a little tough for some of us. The mango lassi was delicious but steep for $8. The platter was good, split between 6 of us it was good amount but the samosas are big and hard to split, would be better if they were smaller and more quantity than bigger. Tikka was lacking in flavor a bit, but the shrimp korma was the stand out. Generous in the shrimp with a good, creamy sauce. Overall great spot for Indian food. read more

First time trying and getting Atithi delivered! We got Vegetable Samosas, Garlic Naan, & Chicken Tikka Masala and it was more than enough for 2! We have tons of yummy leftovers. Great portion size for the price. Vegetable Samosas - My favorite dish of the night!! So flavorful, absolutely HUGE, and even better with some green sauce (what is this deliciousness?!) and chicken tikka - drooling just thinking about it. The food here is really high quality. We tried vegetable samosa and bhel puri for appetizers. Both were very good, but the samosa really stood out to me because of the flavorful filling. For entrees, we had baingan bartha, aloo chana paneer, saag paneer, and vegetable vindaloo. Of these, my favorite was the baingan bartha. The saag paneer was also very nice - subtly flavored without being too rich, and with a good amount of paneer. The warning they give about the vindaloo being spicy is legit. Even for someone who eats particularly spicy food, this falls into the "spice challenge" category. It's an adventurous pick, but slightly bitter. We also ordered coconut naan, garlic naan, and paratha on the side. The coconut naan was unique and very good - slightly sweet, which made a nice accompaniment for the other dishes. The meal came out to about $200 for 5 people, which is reasonable for the enormous quantity of food we received and the great flavors. This restaurant is worth a try. read more

Last week I went to Atithi for the first time and was not disappointed. I ordered the veggie tikka masala and split the mango lassi with a friend. Both were amazing and the medium spice level was perfect for me. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the service was incredible. We had a party of 10 which is not always easy to accommodate but the staff was attentive all went smoothly. My water cup was always filled and they checked in quite a few times to make sure we had all we needed. The portions were generous and everyone took their leftovers for lunch the next day. As a vegetarian, Indian food is one of my go-tos so I am very happy to have a new favorite so close to me. Important note: they used to have a 'bring your own drink' policy but now serve a nice array of alcohol so, no need to bring that bottle of wine! read more

this place is amazing. please eat here! cannot recommend enough!!! here's how it went down: we ordered the vindaloo (beware). the waitress asked us like 3 times if we're sure we can handle the spice. we said yes because, like, challenge accepted. she brought out an appetizer lamb skewer that we had also ordered first. it was spicy. she asked how the spice level was. she said the vindaloo was at least double the spice level. we were like okay damn, getting scared. she brings out the vindaloo. my bf and i both had one bite and shed a tear. we tried to power through it but started sweating. actually the spiciest food I've ever had. the sweet sweet waitress comes over (clearly aware that we are NOT in fact capable of consuming this level of spice), asks if she can bring us something else. she brings us some chicken Korma (delish, obviously). then, we get the check. they didn't even charge us for the vindaloo!!!!!! we tried to fight them. like, it was our mistake! they did not need to give it for free. they were like "you didn't enjoy it so you won't pay for it"! In town for work and was craving Indian food. I live in Chicago and we have a great Indian food scene there, but I figured I'd try it (note-I'm Caucasian. Just love all Asian foods). This place is sooo good. They have a great lunch deal. We shared the Lamb Spring Rolls and Garlic Naan. Both were sooo good and the spring rolls came with a delicious yogurt sauce. For my main, I got the Chicken Samosa and Chicken Vindaloo. The samosa was huge but the filling was amazing and had a bit of a kick. BEWARE: The chicken vindaloo is SPICY. They warned me and they were not kidding. The flavor was delicious, but it really has a lot of heat to it. Overall, great meal and lots of leftovers as the food was super filling. My only complaint was that the waitress kept trying to clear our table when we were packing our to go boxes. I decided to give this restaurant a try because of the raving 5 star reviews. I came with a few friends for dinner. The restaurant had seating when we arrived, but quickly got filled as time passed. We were quickly seated upon entering. When reading their menu, I was super hungry, so their 3 course prix fix meal sounded like a great deal to me. We got 4 pieces of complimentary papadam for the table to start (one for the each of us) - paired with a side of sweet brown sauce and spicy green sauce. That's always light and delicious. For my 3 course PRIX FIXE: I opted for VEGETABLE SAMOSA for appetizer The vegetable samosa was way bigger than I expected. Nonetheless, it was delicious. Liked the fillings inside. The mix of the brown/green sauce at the bottom was a delicious combo for the samosa. I really enjoyed the app. Would order again. CHICKEN KORMA for my entree I like that you get to choose your spiciness for all the dishes. I chose to get medium spice for my korma dish. It was a tad bit spicy for me, but very tolerable in my opinion. Had a similar spice level of the green sauce as the server had explained. I also like that every dish comes with a decent sized bowl of rice. And a large plate if you need to mix the rice and entree. I've never had Chicken Korma, but I really enjoyed it. Chicken was soft. It had small pieces of nuts inside. The sauce is flavorful. I ate it all. and KHEER for my dessert This is a rice pudding dessert. It has a slight coconut taste, but you can tell it's Indian with the hidden spices underneath the white exterior. I was honestly bloated with my meal & everything else prior, but since it's light and not too sweet, I was able to finish it all. First of all, I came out of the restaurant feeling very full. Delicious Indian food! Great options for vegetarians, pescatarians, and meat eaters. We stopped in for lunch on a whim after walking by and noticing the classic marigold garlands outside. Super clean and nice in there with simple but pretty Indian décor. They also had soft religious music on which contributed to the calm atmosphere. Our server was extremely polite and attentive. We started with the chicken samosa app. These are full size, not minis and the order came with two which was perfect. You can tell these were freshly made because they were super crisp on the outside. The accompanied chutneys were good but I wish the green was a little more refreshing. We also shared the lamb saag (which comes with rice), and a garlic naan. Everything was presented nicely and the portion was generous enough that we had leftovers to take home (yay!) I was here with one of my groups back in early May. This is a local Indian spot serving primarily Northern Indian grub which while not my preference is either good or bad depending on how overly sweet they make the dishes. This place was definitely on the good end and I can see why others like it. The prices were reasonable. Service was nice. I remember getting a mango lassi and it was to my preference. Not too sweet and quite thick with a strong yogurt flavor. Pricey but would still recommend. They gave us some Papadum which was the usual. We got two appetizers. First was the Pakora ($10) with onion fritters and cauliflower fritters had a good portion size and were properly fried. The Vegetable Samosa with potato and green peas in a mixed turnover for $9 was different. They were much larger than usual and came with 2 and were tasty though perhaps a bit less fried than I am used to. They are also available with meat. In terms of mains, our host got a mix of curries. For vegetables, the Saag Paneer with spinach, cheese cubes, garlic, and coriander for $17.95 was very good. Good spinach flavor with good paneer texture. The Chana (or Channa) Masala with chickpea, tomato, onion, cloves, and cardamom for the same price was probably the weakest dish and the only miss of the evening. A bit too lightly flavored even as this dish goes and the chickpeas could have been cooked more. In terms of meat dishes, our favorite was the Achari Lamb with mixed spicy pickle masala, onion, green pepper, and tomato for $19.95 was very good. The lamb was tender and well spiced from the achar/pickles. Would recommend if you want something spicy and sour. The Chicken Korma at $18.95 with cashew nut and almond, yogurt, coconut, and cream was also good. Not as sweet as other places which to me is a good thing. Rounding out the dishes was the Shrimp Tikka Masala for $21.95 with griddle fry, light cream, and tomato sauce. This was more standard and the shrimp were fine. Probably the 2nd weakest but not shabby. All the dishes came with rice and we got Garlic Naan ($4.50) which was a very solid version. Food was tasty. I can see why it's popular and high rated. The chicken tikka masala is pretty sweet and not very spicy. The curry chicken had a nice amount of spice and flavorful. The chicken was tender, this dish might've been too flavorful and more on the salty side. Everything came piping hot which is great. Tried their garlic naan and it was really good with chunks of garlic. Ended dinner with kheer and rasmalai and it was a small portion and was ok. Came on a Friday night and it got busy around 7pm. The service was great. Always come to refill the cup with water and checking to make sure everything is ok. It is dim in the inside which is prefect for a date. The lamb spring roll in particular is phenomenal, highly recommended. So I've ordered from this restaurant a million times but this is my first time finally dining in. Im not sure what I expected but it was a pretty decent experience. The inside was a bit on the cozier side and dimly lit which was fine, nothing extravagant. The service was slower than I expected, nothing awful but just not great, took a long for everything to come especially if we asked for anything extra. The medium spicy chicken tikka wasn't as spicy as it is when I order takeout but that was ok. The Garlic naan was delicious, samosas were maybe a 7/10, not as flavorful as it used to be but still good. Indian restaurants to get your tikka masala or saag paneer fix are a dime a dozen in New York, and glancing at Atithi's menu I would've guessed this was your run of the mill restaurant. It's always lovely to be pleasantly surprised by an amazing meal, and I am here to say that the depth of flavor in the curries I had here have me calling this one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in recent memory, and this is just a casual spot on Grand St. I appreciate that they start you off with some complimentary papadum with a tamarind and green chutney, like an Indian chips and salsa, which almost never come complimentary at restaurants anymore. This was a tasty way to whet the appetite for the appetizer and soup. Their $12.95 lunch special includes a generous appetizer portion on top of the entree, and there was so much food I had enough to save for a second meal. While I loved the mulligatawny soup, I was floored by the shrimp tikka masala I ordered. The pieces of shrimp were large and plentiful, and the sauce had a smokiness that took this curry to the next level. It was so good I often fantasize about this tikka masala, whose smokiness I cannot replicate at home. My server was so friendly and really on top of refilling my water glass, and even gifted me a mango lassi on the house. I found the lassi to be too heavy on the sweetness for my palate, but probably perfectly fine for most people. I'm curious to return for other dishes, but I will likely be tempted to order the shrimp tikka masala again. read more

We realized after we could have opted for the dinner special they have but glad we got the full servings of the apps instead of one of each with the special. They do warm you that the vindaloo chicken is spicy but believe me, it's extremely spicy. I have a pretty good tolerance level and this was def up there. After seeing this Indian restaurant on Yelp with its glorious 5-star rating, I was intrigued to try it out on a Friday afternoon. Atithi offers a $15 lunch special (price must've recently increased because I saw photos from fellow reviewers that stated lunch special was only $12.95 just 3 months ago). Lunch special is valid Monday-Friday from 12pm-3pm, excluding holidays. From the special, you can select an appetizer and choice to entree which comes with basmati rice. There is limit selection of appetizers and entree but protein includes vegetarian, chicken or lamb options. Do note that they charge extra $1 for lamb selection. I really wanted to try the chicken vindaloo but I had did some research and read reviews prior to coming and I guess reviewers put me off a bit when they said the vindaloo was really spicy. I asked the waiter if the spice level for the vindaloo could be adjusted and unfortunately I couldn't. He told me the spice level for the vindaloo was a 10/10 and while I eat a lot of spicy food and can handle the kick, I did not want to risk spending the rest of my outing seeking a bathroom. So I opt for the chicken curry and chicken samosa for appetizer. Also, ordered the chicken tikka marsala. While the vindaloo's spice level could not be adjusted, the waiter did ask us the level of spice we wanted for the curries and we selected medium spicy. The appetizer was only one chicken samosa but it was a huge samosa. Cutting into the samosa, you'll find grounded spice chicken. The flavor was really good and I really like the green sauce that accompanied it on the platting. The chicken curry came out with the rice and upon first taste, I noticed the curry was not spicy at all (well, to me) even though I ordered medium spicy. The waiter told me it was a 4-5/10 in regards to the vindaloo's spice level, which got me curious whether I probably would've been able to handle the vindaloo spice. The waiter did ask if I wanted to add more spice to my chicken curry since I said it wasn't spicy at all for me, but I said it was fine. Food was tasty but Indian food never disappoints!
