I have been overdue for a haircut and was recommended here by a friend of a friend. DJ did a fantastic job. I explained what I wanted (maintain my length as much as possible, refresh my layers), showed him some pictures, and he went to work. He dry cut my hair first and then refined the cut after washing. He washed my hair thoroughly and gave a nice brief scalp and neck massage. I LOVED that he did that; at my last salon, the stylist spent maybe 10 seconds barely washing my hair. Pretty sure they didn't wash long enough to make it suds up, much less wash the oil and dry shampoo out of my roots. So I definitely appreciated DJ's thoroughness here. He went on to dry and style. The entire experience was great and I loved that he took his time to do an excellent job. If I had one minor comment, he used a little too much product during styling. Not a huge deal though. The salon was lovely, with high ceilings lots of natural light. The shampoo bowl was very comfortable to lay back in. I will definitely be back for my coloring needs! read more

Superb experience with DJ today. The space is very clean, organized, and well maintained. I was way overdue for a haircut and asked for a decent length cut. DJ worked with my natural hair partition and took his time making sure my layers were even all around. The scalp massage was such a treat, and my hair felt very clean afterwards. The shampoo and conditioner left my hair soft and with a nice smell. I felt renewed after my haircut and very grateful for such a pleasant experience. read more

Atelier de Jarit - Hair Salons Near Me - Alameda, California

I have gone to DJ for years at different salons, and when he left the country at the beginning of the pandemic, I was devastated. And now that he's back, my hair finally looks good again! He is amazing with curly hair, and he's now a Master Colorist, so his knowledge of color is fantastic. He really takes the time to listen and make sure he understands what you want and then is a total perfectionist about getting it right. He is hands down the best stylist I've ever had. I recommend him to everyone. read more

Dj is magnificent! He has been working on my hair for over 10 years. I have curly hair and he has truly always been able to preserve my curls with the wild ride we have taken them on with coloring. When I first met DJ I hated my curls and severely neglected them. He helped me bring them back to life and always guided me with what would be to harsh and out of reach for my hair. And with all different colorings I have done he has always maintained the integrity of my natural texture! read more

I highly recommend Dj"s hair salon: Atelier de Jarit in Alameda. This is a talented hair stylist who is also a master colorist. I have been going to DJ for some time, and have always been pleased with what he does with my hair. He is a perfectionist when it comes to his work. I can always count on his consistency: every time DJ does a fabulous job. People have stopped me on the street to comment on my hair, and I'm always pleased to refer new people to him. His new salon has a pleasing aesthetic: comfortable and stylish. He observes the rules re Covid for the safety of his customers and himself. This is a salon where you can relax and truly be beautified with expertise. read more

DJ is the only man that I allow to touch my hair ! He is very professional and funny AF.

I have been coming to DJ for years for my curly haircuts. DJ is an expert with curly hair. It is such a joy to come in with complete confidence and trust that my hair will be well cared for and look fantastic. He has both vision and attention to detail. He takes his time to make sure it is just right and gives lots of tips for ongoing care and maintenance. I moved away but I still come back to him for my haircuts. Highly recommend. read more

D.J is the most talented stylist I have ever been to. He is a creative artist when it comes to all types of hair. I have curly hair and he is a master at cutting with the curl. Not only that., but we have been welcomed back to a beautiful new salon with exquisite attention to detail. You will not be disappointed. read more

DJ is an absolute master with color. He did exactly as I imagined and my hair looks amazing. His salon is clean, comfortable and beautiful. Thank you DJ! read more

DJ is amazing. He knows exactly how to cut my curly hair, and does it slowly and precisely and cheerfully. I joke that it's like cutting a bonsai tree, when people cut curls properly. He cuts curls dry (of course), and it's interesting to watch him work. I just had my second visit with him today, and all I could say was...my hair looks exactly like ME. Exactly how it should. That feeling of yeah, ok, I feel CORRECT. And, of course, my curls look freaking fabulous. At my first visit, he understood exactly what I meant when I waved my hands around trying to describe my ideal hair shape, and didn't make fun of me for having hacked away at my curls myself for months. He just...fixed it. And it was great. He also has one of the new Dyson Supersonic blow dryers, which is ridiculously fast and elegant and left me with NEXT TO NO FRIZZ. It sucks, because now I want a $400 hair dryer because it works so well. :( read more

Dj is so sweet and did a lovely job on my hair; I feel like a different person as cheesy as that sounds. It's a really pleasant environment which helps when you're doing a long process and they offer you beverages or magazines while you wait which I really appreciated. I feel like changing your hair can be a really big deal but he understands that and gave me beautiful results, even my mom loved it ;) read more

DJ has been working his magic on my hair for years! I have curly hair and he does the best DevaCurl cuts I've had. And he understands what I want for color, too. It isn't easy, he's got to cover my greys and then highlight my dark hair enough to show the intense colors I like best--like purples and magentas. Don't worry, he can do the more natural, regular colors, too! read more

I worked with DJ for years and he has done my hair as well. He is an extremely gifted hairdresser. His cuts and color are sheer perfection and his styling out of this world! I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone needing a fantastic hairdresser! read more

I went to DJ after living with damaged, bleached hair for many months. I'd spent a horrifying amount of money having it colored, and then trying to get it fixed, at a trendy SF salon. DJ is a hair detective and artist all in one. He figured out what my natural hair color and texture were, and after a thoughtful and patient consultation, he meticulously restored it so that it's now sleek and flattering and I feel like myself again. I am so glad I put myself in his hands. He's the kind of colorist and stylist everyone dreams about: he's brilliant, cares about your hair, and takes the time to really see who you are and what will complement you. It's amazing that he is right here in Alameda and charges such reasonable rates. read more

DJ is great! He has been cutting my hair for ten years now! I used to have curly hair and he did a great job with it as he's been trained in the DevaCurl methodology but for the last 3 years he's been doing a wonderful keratin treatment on my hair that makes me feel like a new person. He also uses organic hair color which i really like. The salon is light and airy and there is a private lot so its easy to park. read more

I've been a client of DJ's for more than 10 years! I've crossed bridges and driven through tunnels to get to DJ and he is so worth it. My style has morphed over the years, from long hair with highlights, straightened hair, shoulder length bobs, DevaCurl cuts, soft waves, organic color, you name it - DJ can be trusted to give you whatever you want, and more importantly, if you walk in and say "I don't care - do whatever you want! - he knows you really don't mean it and you walk out looking just the way you should. That's just priceless. DJ gave our son a haircut on his wedding day, did my hair and make-up for the wedding, and his Lady of Honor's hair and make-up. It was natural and beautiful. I love DJ and I love his new salon in Alameda. It is spectacular, and just like DJ, it's classy, stylish, elegant, and genuinely natural. I will follow DJ anywhere - over bridges, through tunnels, by ferry, by train, by plane - wherever he goes I will go. Thank you DJ so much for being the best cut and color artist ever and for being not just my hair stylist, but my beloved friend too. read more

First of all when I first began going to DJ, my hair was damaged from a serious illness that I had and my hair was finally growing back. DJ took my hair from drab and badly needing a good cut and styling to gorgeous and healthy. My curly hair has never looked this good. For the first time in my life as an adult, I don't have to go home and redo the styling. It is always perfect for me. DJ listens to what I want each time including the length that I desire. For example when I saw him today, I told him that I wanted to keep it longer and he did just that. I recently started to do highlights after not doing any for the past 8 years and the blonde shade he chose is perfect for my yellow undertone skin and it looks natural. I always have women stop me on the street to complement my curly haircut as well as the color. DJ is an artist and has a keen eye for detail. It is important to him that his clients leave happy. I have referred a number of friends to him and they all sing his praises plus all of them look younger and more beautiful with his cut/color. He is very patient in teaching the Deva method which works so well on all curly and wavy hair. He also cuts straight hair. At times when I arrive early, he has just finished a straight hair cut-Beautiful! read more

I have been going to Dj for my hair cut, styling and color for the last several years. I never walk out disappointed. The combination of his professionalism, his ability to listen and his readiness to accommodate to my wishes and needs has made it so easy to work with him! Dj seems to take pride in being technically precise. He takes as much time as needed to make sure my hair is cut in a manner that maximizes the curl. He is always willing to go an extra step so that my color looks natural and bright. I appreciate his commitment to quality. He only uses organic products and does not turn around and overcharge his clients to make up for the cost. As a Hairdresser, DJ is both an artist and a technician. The combination of having a mother who was a hairdresser, going through training in Italy and then coming to the States and continuing his commitment to go to trainings that keep up his skill and knowledge all contribute to making him a top notch Hair Stylist and Colorist. I suggest you try him!!!! read more

DJ is absolutely THE best--- which is why I followed him when he moved from San Francisco to Alameda. After 12+ years of his magic, I can't imagine having anyone else cut, or color, my hair. He truly is creative. An artist. But, just as important, he is also good person, willing to work with his clients. Another reviewer mentioned the relaxing environment; I agree, but also worth mentioning-- he adds a wonderful touch when conditioning your hair, an amazing scalp massage. Let me conclude by saying, 1) I seldom, if ever, write reviews; 2) I drive over an hour in each direction for my appointments (every 3 1/2 weeks. Believe me when I say DJ is a 5+ read more
