I want to start this review by saying that I never even got to meet Jessie, so I can't comment on her skill or work. This review is purely about the unprofessional treatment I experienced and the entire morning I wasted. For context, I had booked this appointment months in advance-my friend got her hair done here & I was really, really excited. TLDR: I ended up waiting around for three hours in front of her ghost town of a salon before realizing that Jesse had basically stood me up through a series of misleading texts. My appt was at 9am this morning & I live on the far west side of the city, so it takes me about 45 minutes to get to Alameda. The morning of, after running on about 4 hours of sleep, I got up and started the drive over. About 40 minutes before my appointment I got a text (pictured here) from Jessie pushing my appointment back to 10:30. I wasn't thrilled since I had already left, but I figured I'd just spend the extra time getting breakfast. At 10am I'm sitting in front of the salon and it's crickets. The place isn't even open -blinds drawn, parking lot empty, not a single soul. Then I get another text from her saying she's on her way but running late. At 10:30 I get out of my car and stand there waiting until about 10:45. At that point I figured I should send her a text clarifying that I needed to leave by 5 to pick up my partner since we share a car, and that I had intentionally scheduled an early appointment because of that. I didn't know if we would even have time for my balayage. Right after that, I get an automated text saying my appointment was cancelled. I immediately text and confront her about the cancellation, which she then proceeds and responds that she has food poisoning and is going to CVS for meds. At that point I'm thinking wtf? Why didn't you say you were sick in the first place? I thought you had a scheduling conflict? And then like wtf I also obviously don't want to make someone come in if they're sick -- but the communication throughout this whole situation was so awful and confusing. You can tell from the text that she still wasn't giving me a straight answer about her ETA, so I decided to call her. On the phone she tells me she's on her way but stopping at CVS first. I'm like... I just need to know if my appointment is happening or not. She keeps saying she's not feeling great but that she's coming in. I just needed a clear answer -- if you need to cancel, just say that instead of dragging it out like this. Eventually she finally tells me she needs to cancel the appointment. all that to say, I'm just really upset and disappointed. I don't get many weekends off as a resident in training, and I had planned this entire day for my hair appointment for so long. I wish she had just been clear and professional from the start. I'm sure she'll read this and may have her own response, but everything I wrote here is exactly what happened. I can't speak to the service itself, but the communication and lack of respect for my time was so, so disappointing. I keep thinking about all the money I spent to get there (gas, tolls, breakfast I could've just had at home, my time) & it just makes me so frustrated. To Jessie: Please respect your customers' time more. I'm sorry you weren't feeling well, but there were definitely better ways to cancel today's appointment given the circumstances. Jessie does such a great job with your hair! My hair is thin and dark brown, and she gave me baby lights and was extremely honest with me how light she was willing to bleach my hair to level set my expectations. When I came out of my hair session, my newly bleached hair did not feel dry at all, and she gave me the perfect ashy light blonde color that I wanted. I've been going to Jessie to get my hair colored for a few years now! Before Jessie, I went around the Bay Area trying different salons from San Jose to Daly City and all the way to Walnut Creek. I love the results I got from the other salons but most of the time, in my first few washes, I can tell that my hair got super damaged during the dyeing process. My hair would get SUPER tangly upon washing my hair for the first time since dyeing it or the hair color fades to brassy only after a few washes. Those have been the main reasons why I'd try a different salon the next time. Then I found Jessie! Her salon is located in a plaza in Alameda and there's plenty of parking. Her salon is always very clean. I love her quality of work with her balayage/babylights - she always takes her time when she's working on my hair. She's also super nice as well and checked in on me a few times throughout the appointment to see if I need anything. A long awaited review, I had two sessions; one in April of 2021 and another in July 2021. I heard of Crop Salon from a friend and a coworker and I wanted to get an ash blonde balayage. I contacted Jessie by phone for a consultation. I came into the consultation and told her what I wanted and was honest what I've done to my hair in the past- I was probably a nightmare because my hair was black box dyed 6 months prior lol. She did a bleach strand test and recommended a color correction. She was very honest with me and transparent that I may not get the results I desire. We scheduled for March for the first session, though we had to reschedule because she was feeling the after effects of her vaccine that day. No biggie. Both sessions took all day- about 8 hours because I have thick hair! Jessie was amazing though and made sure I was comfortable throughout both sessions. My hair/balayage didn't look truly ash blonde until a couple weeks after my 2nd session so it definitely takes patience. Jessie was very helpful and recommended me over text what products to use to maintain my hair and what to use after getting my hair done because it was going to be extremely brittle and dry. I finally found THE BEST place to get your hair done in the Bay Area! Especially if you need balayage! I have seen Jessie several times now.. about 3 different times for balayage and 2 haircuts and I've been extremely happy each time. She is very skilled in her techniques and very meticulous, which is so important because my hair isn't damaged and I'm able to go several months before needing a touch up. On top of that, I just enjoy her and her salon so it's always a positive experience there. I won't go anywhere else as long as I live in California! Covid Update: Jessie is still the best person I've ever gone to for balayage and a haircut and I'm so glad I went back! There's a plastic shield that separates the two chairs (used to be three, they spaced them apart more) so you can feel super safe in case anyone else walks in. The place is super clean and the chairs are sanitized after every client. They also sanitize the bibs you wear for your haircut after every person! Made an appointment over a week ago, which I had a text exchange with Jessie about the cut and color I was requesting, including a sample photo of the style and color. I showed up on time, and stylist was 12 minutes late, and didn't know who I was or what I had requested until I showed her the photo of the sample style and color work - then she proceeded to tell me she didn't even have that type of color in stock in her shop, and all she could do was offer a temporary wash that would rinse out after I washed my hair again. She also didn't seem to understand the type of cut I was after (I explained I'd like short in back, long in front, and she said "Oh, long in back, short in front". I came to Jessie last fall for a color correction and she did a great job. I have fine hair and lots of it, so it was a long process. She used babylights to retrieve my hair from chocolate-reddish all-over lowlights that were the wrong color for my complexion, applied too heavily, and applied unevenly. I came away with polished neutral-gold highlights that made me recognize myself in the mirror once again, and added a lovely oomph to my face. Yesterday I went back to get a root melt to extend the life of the babylights she did back in the fall. I love it! One thing I really love about Jessie is she shows you the colors she's going to use, explains the process in detail, and then texts you exactly what she did afterward. There are no secrets, no attitude that you should keep your nose out of her process. Jessie is an absolute kind and accommodating professional!! She explains everything in the process, every step of the way so that you know exactly what is going on. She is extremely patient and sweet and I will definitely come back to her salon when I'm ready for another hair transformation!! I came in for a lightening process (level 1/2 to level 8/9) which we hoped would take the 4 hours I was scheduled for but we ran into some issues as I unknowingly had leftover dye still in my hair from previous at-home attempts to dye my hair (I genuinely thought it grew out/faded by this point ). My previous color was lifting patchy and not reacting to the bleach. Jessie kindly apologized as she thought I had virgin hair since it was so dark, but I realized I hadn't shared everything I've done to my hair with her beforehand. Nonetheless, Jessie was super upfront and let me know my options - to wash out the bleach and go back to dark, or continue the process and try to correct the color. Admittedly I was nervous at this point because it looked like I was not able to get close to the color I wanted. I decided to move forward with the bleaching and correction process and trust in Jessie. I AM SO GLAD I DID!!! My session lasted around 8 hours and I cannot stress how great Jessie was through the whole time. She made sure to keep updating me on the progress of my hair and we were able to lift my previous color to a level 7! We had to bleach my ends twice due to the patchy color but with a lot of waiting and toning, we were able to get to a blonde I am super super happy with! Jessie made sure to ask if I had any questions throughout the whole process, though I felt I never really had any as she lets you know exactly what's going on, the whole session. She also asked me if I wanted to stay blonde for a while and what my future color goals were, so I would know when to come back in for a touch up, and how to maintain my color to prep for a smoother transition when I'm ready to make a change. I found Jessie on accident and I was glad I did! I've jumped from stylist to stylist but I could never settle for 'the one'. I've always wanted light ash hair but all of them either made up excuses why they couldn't do it or they just fail miserably. Before I came to Jessie, I went to another salon and they messed up my hair BIG time. So after 2 weeks, I couldn't stand the ugly zebra stripes highlights anymore! When I met Jessie, I explained to her that the other salon did a full highlight but I thought it was too dark so they also did a bleach wash on me. Jessie was shocked when she checked out my hair because she found many patches underneath and could tell the other salon damaged my hair so bad! She said she'll try her best to get the light ash brown that I wanted- there won't be an guarantee because my hair has been through a lot the past 2 weeks. The whole process took 4 hours but the time flew by quick! I love how Jessie could make conversation but also knew when to have quiet time. She had to tone me 3 times because my hair was stubborn and wouldn't take it! In the end, we did a level 5 toner (which is pretty dark) and the light ash came out perfectly. It was what I've always dreamt of but no other stylists could deliver. Even though Jessie is about 35 minutes drive, I would definitely return to do a touch up in 3-4 months.
