I just walked out of the Sabai Salon feeling like a new woman. Jeramie worked with me to decide on a major hair change, involving cutting off nearly 10 inches of hair. After a decade of trims, I have a new, current style. Not only did he do a great cut, he also took the time to show me how to style it for 'wash and go', to blow dry it smooth and to curl it. Instead of leaving the salon knowing I will never be able to reproduce the look, I feel like I really know what to do. Also want to mention that with this pandemic, I felt totally safe. Tik's done it again! Last time she gave me a brown and blonde ombre bayalage. This time I asked for a red/violet bayalage. She listened to what I wanted, gave me input on what she thought would be doable and look good on me and voila! I absolutely love my new color with all the hues! I really wanted to like this salon... Decor was so cute, location is so convenient, and warm customer service. I came in with dark brown hair and wanted well blended balayage baby caramel highlights and base gray coverage. Tik was very sweet and did her best, but I think it was an off day for her. I ended up with chunky highlights and my whole head was extremely brassy - almost like a copper penny. In her defense, Tik did immediately offer to color correct it (an additional 5 hours of salon time) once she saw how unhappy I was with the outcome. Unfortunately, 3 rounds of lightening over 2 days has left my hair brittle, damaged, and it's still recovering. Despite the excellent customer service, I unfortunately cannot recommend or return. read more

Lauren is an artist!! This is my third time getting my hair done from different salons. Each time my hair was okay but wasn't really what I was looking for. I ended up going to Lauren for a color correction and she was able to get me to a gorgeous blonde in one session. Now this is my 2nd time and I'm starting a new job so I wanted to try going darker. Lauren was superr friendly and accomodating. She took me at 8 am even though she was fully booked for Saturday and it was last minute. I called the salon to make an appointment and was able to get an appointment the same day. Tik was kind enough to take me in at 6pm. I love how the salon is stylishly decorated but still felt very welcoming. Tik (owner) made me feel comfortable, she treated me as if I was a close friend. She even offered to buy me dinner and offered me wine! My appointment was booked with Angie. Angie knew exactly what I needed for my hair. I had dry and damaged ends. My stylists name was Angie. I had talked to her over the phone and asked for the next available appointment for a color and a trim. When I came in for the appointment Angie took her time to get to know me and ask me questions about my hair routine. I told her I have dyed my hair with a box . (Gasp, I know) but for the most part I leave it fairly natural. The look and style I was going for was a Carmel balayage highlights. I did not want it to be too red or blonde in color. Angie knew exactly what I envisioned and delivered. (See my Before& After pics) I can't say this enough Angie is Awesome! She made me feel at ease, took her time and literally transformed my hair. Melanie is a true artist - She turned my rachetness into beautiful sexy richness. So thrilled my SIL (sister-in-law) found her on YELP! Words can not describe how impressed and in love I am with the overall time and attention Melanie gave to my hair and me. There aren't many words to describe Tik and that's because she is such a rare jewel that if I were to try I am afraid I would come up short. :) I came to Tik with the dilemma of my old, faded, red hair that I had been sporting for many years but now having turned 30 needing something fresh and closer to my natural color again. I have a giant distrust of stylists when it comes to highlighting/ low lighting my hair as it has always ended up either the wrong color or very chunky and unnatural looking. Therefore, I have avoided this process all of my life until I met Tik!! She was genuinely kind, warm and trusting directly from the beginning. I came in for a free consultation where she expertly discussed all of my options, one of them being stripping my hair and starting from scratch. She was honest in telling me what would be the healthiest and easiest option for my hair, a full head of highlights with lowlights added in. I could instantly see she wanted nothing more than for her customer to be happy and that she would do all it takes to make that happen. Even the customers who were in her shop or those who came in and out could feel her positive energy and it was obvious she does great business as well as hair. The day of my appointment I parked in her free parking spots at the back, came in, was greeted by Tik's heavenly smile, sat down and was instantly served a tray of tea and treats, including fruit and some Thai treats. I arrived at lunch time and had not had the time to eat, rest assured Tik took very good care of me. Sabai means comfort and relaxation and there is no doubt I was instantly in this zen zone. She did a three step process on my hair. Yes it took 3 hours but that is because she wanted to make it look exactly as I had requested and be as kind to my fine hair as possible. Tik put in love into every step of the way, we had lovely conversation and I felt as though I was with a friend. I am new to California coming from Canada and being with Tik helped shed away some of that loneliness from being so far away from home. The end results of my hair was beyond exceptional. I sent pictures immediately to all of my sisters and girlfriends back home in Canada and they asked me if I got extensions lol. Apparently it is the best my hair has ever looked. And the best part is that it is close to my natural hair color meaning I can slowly gradually get it back to where it used to be. Tik did everything I wanted and went above and beyond. On top of that her prices are reasonable and she is completely worth every penny that she charges, including a generous tip. I live in San Francisco but would go back to Alameda any day just to have my hair done by Tik, my energy enveloped by her positive vibes and spend the day in her zen like salon. Location, People, Edible Stuff. The things I always rate when I type one of these up. So location. Frankly put I would drive to Santa Cruz to have Tik cut my hair, so driving back and forth from San Francisco is a no brainer. That needed to be said. The location is in Alameda, on Santa Clara which has lots of street parking available! Let me tell you the meters here are a lot less greedy than in San Francisco! Additionally, they have a private parking lot in the back that has plenty of room and is very secure. Parking is NEVER an issue here. What a miracle. Tik is the owner of Sabai Salon, and I will just say I have been looking for a Hair Engineer like this since I moved to San Francisco 10 years ago. She is not a good hairstylist. She is an amazing Hair Engineer, and she has an amazing eye for what looks good on people. Trust her opinions and ideas. In the past 10 years I have went through countless hairstylists (yes I am picky), getting some really good haircuts, but nothing amazing. Cutting short hair is an art, and a lot of hairstylists can not knock one out of the park (Go Giants!). This woman however can, and is Picasso with scissors. Once people hear about this place, you are going to have to book ahead 1-2 months to get in. Her staff seems sharp, I would be fine with getting a haircut from another hairdrsser in her shop. Another thing I want to comment about is the vibe of the place. Sabai has a unique and fresh London meets Traditional Thailand kind of look. Add in an Espresso, Wine, Champagne, Loose Tea, Chocolate Bar and ladies and gentleman you are starting to get my drift. The Salon also had a Cell Phone charging station, how helpful is that?! The music was great very relaxing and fun. Looked like they had some sort of great wireless system installed in all the rooms. As I am an ex techie geek I noticed it, and thought it was well thought out. I think her hair products were organic, or plant based, they were all from France. The prices seemed very, reasonable considering how talented she and her team are. Very "Family Friendly". Food wise and shopping wise this location is awesome! You can park your car without being harrassed by the meter maids. There are multiple great places to eat all within 1-3 blocks of the Salon. Additionally, there is a fabulous shop called GOODS right next door to her. It is an amazing little shop and I never get tired of going in to buy gifts for my friends (or me). There is also a really nice locally owned pet shop across the street. I always stop and get my dog a treat after my haircut, and then head to Goods for my shopping fix. I think this might be the best review I have left for a business since I joined Yelp in 2008. It is warranted though. This is the beat hair Salon I have come across in the bay, and I was a little hesitant to leave this good of a yelp review, but my experience warranted it. Lastly Tik is from Thailand. When you meet her you might think, " Is she really that nice?!" Yes she really is, and please be that nice back. This woman has worked her way up through the ranks, and worked very hard to open her own shop which she absolutely deserves. I've been getting my hair done by Tik for almost 3 years now. I discovered Tik when she was working in downtown SF and followed her to her new salon in Alameda. Tik is a genius with figuring out what hair styles will flatter your face and picking a beautiful color to make your hair pop. She uses gentle chemicals that don't irritate your scalp - highlights never turn out brassy or too light. I always walk away pleased with the results each time. What I also love about Tik is how personable she is and how much she treats each customer like her friend. I decided to go the cheap route and got a haircut by an assembly line sort of establishment where they whirled me into the chair, chopped off some chunks of hair, and rolled me out of there in 10 minutes.
