I made an appointment online with Nelly on a Saturday around 3PM requesting for a haircut. She is so friendly and listened to how I typically style my hair and how much I wanted cut. She also made sure before she did larger cuts that I was comfortable with the length and letting me know how my hair would flow if I went one way vs the other. My haircut took around an hour and half with a wash, cut and blow dry. I definitely recommend Nelly for your future cuts! Plenty of parking and located in a plaza next to dollar tree and a nailshop. read more

iSalon is my go-to spot for haircuts! I've been seeing Brenda for multiple years and continue to come back. Brenda is wonderful and super knowledgeable and friendly. She's great and so skilled at haircuts/coloring/styling. I also love that she is easy to talk to, and often shares helpful tips/techniques, so that I can maintain my hair and keep it healthy. The salon is clean and well-maintained, and they are located in a small plaza, so parking is not an issue. Definitely recommend visiting iSalon, if you're looking for an awesome salon in Alameda! read more

another GREAT haircut from Brenda (the boss!) at iSalon! Have been going here for many, many, many years!

Some sweet Vietnamese ladies took care of me for almost 5 hours lol! I booked a partial highlights appointment for a Saturday at 10am. Hannah took care of me and was very caring and attentive to my hair, and it shows! I think the color she did came out beautifully. While there, I got a nice coffee, hot tea, and even snacks! The ladies were super sweet and kind to me, they felt like older cousins or cool aunties just taking care of me! I felt kindness and got excellent service and beautiful color! I showed a picture of hair I liked and they went to work! I even walked away with a little sample of hair primer product. Finally found a hair salon where I felt at home! I will be coming back here for future hair services. Brenda has been here at this location for ten years and I could tell she was friends with her clients! Great thing too is there's plenty of parking in the plaza. read more

Had an amazing experience with Nelly and excited for my next appointment with her! I let her know that I had a bad experience a couple weeks back with another salon where I was basically left with what kinda looked like a bowl cut on top of a wig. Yes, you read that correct! Nelly really worked her magic and created more texture in my hair and blended it out more and fixed up my bangs. I feel so much more cuter and confident now. Nelly is also so kind and knowledgeable. I love when stylists explain to you what they're doing and always checking in to make sure that you're satisfied. I'm really happy I decided to wait for this appointment instead of going back to the other salon that messed up my hair. read more

My sons have been getting their hair cut here since they were 2 years old. Brenda, Ashley, and Josie are seriously the nicest and most talented hair stylists. My boys could not tolerate haircuts until we started going here, and now they look forward to going to "Ashley's house" for their periodic trims. (and for the lollipop rewards that the salon gives them for behaving) My husband also got his hair cut alongside the boys today and he looks great! I'm definitely going to start scheduling family trips to iSalon from here on out. In addition to providing high-quality service in a friendly and fun environment, iSalon strictly follows COVID protocols. Everyone masks up and I see them meticulously sanitizing between customers. This salon is an absolute gem and we're going to continue going as long as they continue to stay open! Thanks, ladies! read more

iSalon just became my new go-to hair salon. I normally cut my hair once a year and I've been experimenting with different salons around Oakland and Alameda and I'm glad to finally say that I'm settling with iSalon. I had an amazing experience with Ashley. She is so confident with what she does, she knows exactly the type of hair treatment I needed for my hair. I also wanted to get an ash brown balayage from my ugly blonde balayage and my hair looks so healthy and brand new - I'm literally so obsessed! Thank you, Ashley! After 9 months, I finally came back to get my hair done again by Josie. I was really happy with the results of my new hair balayage! She was able to bring it to the color I wanted and my hair doesnt feel damaged at all! I love how Josie is super transparent because it helps me decide what color to go for. Josie is also super friendly and easy to talk to. 3-4 hours go by really fast because we're talking almost the entire time :) looking forward to my next hair appt with her! read more

Update 2: 3/25: I noticed on my cc statement a refund for the amount I paid. While it doesn't exactly fix my hair, it is a nice gesture and an act of good faith so I added a few stars back on. I think if you are just trimming or styling longer hair, you can walk out with a good cut and style, (depends on your stylist), but if you have or are looking for something on the edgy or shorter side, make sure you are familiar with and confident in your stylist here first! In the past I had really great experiences with this salon and Ashley did a great job taking my hair from mid shoulder to a pixie (but she is no longer there). I was expecting the same level of quality and skill from the new stylist. If a cut won't work, it's important your stylist can work with you and explain what will work or why it won't work and help with alternatives. (Though I feel the cut I showed should have been achievable with the length I had). When my hair grows out again, maybe I'll give a different stylist here a shot. 3/18: my old stylist Ashley is no longer here so I went with a new girl. I showed a picture of a relatively popular layered bob. Whatever she did, it's not is not cut the way the photo showed, not exactly anyway...The skin on my neck is sore/burning from whatever undercut thing she did in attempt to fix whatever she was doing back there. I went to my car and cried after paying $70 for this crappy haircut and my husband even said when I got home "it's bad...really bad". I won't be back after this unfortunately. The price is too high for a bad haircut. You can see the red marks on my neck from the razor. Ouch! The back side photos were taken about 8 hrs after my apt. Left 2 stars cuz the coffee was good and my stylist tried hard, it took her two hours to do this, A for effort but ... not a good haircut and not what I asked for. Thank god it's still cold enough for hats. read more

She Professional hair Dresser, thank you for bring my hair more Beautiful that Day! I need to go back soon to see her again.

I had such an amazing experience with Nelly. I will forever be a customer. I have wavy/curly hair that I've always struggled styling. Nelly walked me through the process of styling and protecting my curls. She offered life-changing tips on how to get the most out of my curls. I'm 32 and have always treated myself to quality haircuts at fancy salons, but I have never had a stylist thoroughly go over how to care for and style my hair. Nelly was extremely informative and helpful. Upon my request, I left the salon with a blow out instead of a natural curly do, but I plan on returning in a month so I can watch Nelly can style my hair naturally. Nelly also recommended curly hair products and sent me home with product samples. I am so relieved and thankful I found Nelly. After 20 years of trying to style my hair correctly, I've finally found someone who is knowledgeable and kind. If you're struggling with managing your curly hair, go see Nelly!! Since I don't cut my hair often, Today was definitely an experience too remember. Definitely check out their Yelp page to see if they have any deals $10 for $20 or $5 off check in. You can only apply one deal; they can't stack. Once I walked into iSalon, I was welcomed by Yvonne. She was very friendly and optimistic; offered be light snacks (Oreos, cookies, Cheezits, chips and mandarins) and beverages (water, tea, and coffee) that is complementary by iSalon. My appointment was at 2:00PM, but luckily I was seen 5 to 10 minutes earlier, since I was waiting in the front already. My hair stylist name was Vanessa; she has been doing haircuts and color for many years. She was very personable, friendly, and professional. My haircut and wash took one hour and thirty minutes; Vanessa took her time and made she I'm happy with my cut and look. She gave me tips and tricks on how to comb my hair and how to wash my hair better. I am definitely happy with my new haircut and can't wait to come back again when my hair is longer! Thanks again for having me today, hope you guys give this place a try! There is a private parking lot in that little plaza too! read more

Years ago, I used to be a loyal customer to iSalon and then one day I decided to venture off to explore other salons. After bouncing around a few stylists I made it back to iSalon this morning for a haircut with Ashley, and just a few days before my birthday. Ashley actually cut my hair before and I recalled she did a good job. I showed her a couple pictures of the hair styles I had in mind and she quickly got to work. She's friendly, professional, personable, and highly experienced. I left with healthy, shiny, fresh layers, and I'm extremely pleased with the results. I would highly recommend Ashley for your next hair appointment! read more

Ashley just gave my little girl the best haircut ever. I'm very emotionally attached to her hair! She's been asking for a cut, and iSalon has never disappointed with the cuts I've got in the past! They were able to get us in the same day. Ashley was so careful with her. Due to her length and how thick her hair is, she needed a shampoo as well, and Ashley did the most age appropriate cut / blow dry to bring her curls back and get the extra weight off. I got us back in the car super teary eyed simply because the cut really is that beautiful! read more

I booked a haircut appt. with Dinah for a Lob cut. A LOB is just a long bob. If you don't know what a bob is, just google it :) I got there like 5 mins before my appt. time. Free parking lot with a pizza spot, dollar tree and other stores. I was offered a beverage and they had lots of magazines at the front and comfy seating. Dinah took me to the chair like 2 mins later. I showed her some pictures on Google and we went over the length and stuff. She cut like 3" off straight across and then we went to shampoo & conditioner my hair then back to the chair for the trimming, shaping and layering. She was very thorough throughout the whole process and checked in with me a few times before proceeding (not a lot of hairstylists do that). Some just cut and cut and don't really listen to what you want. Anyway, Dinah and Brenda (the owner) are very friendly and great at what they do! The rest of the staff is very nice also! Dinah also colored my hair earlier this year. She gave me a blond/brown balayage ombre look and the color still looks great (see pic). read more

I got my hair cut by Vanessa about 4 mornings ago. I had been here twice before and they have always done an exceptional job cutting my hair. I can not say the same about my most recent appointment. My long blonde hair was well past my waist line. I was expecting 4-5 inches off as I haven't had a cut in about 2 years. Roughly 12 inches of my hair was cut off (not an exaggeration), and now my hair barely covers my chest area. I have never dyed my hair but am now considering it because I just can't accept this hair cut. I know I probably sound dramatic but I literally cried the following day because I was not prepared to have this much of my hair gone. I wanted long hair with short layers, not short hair with long layers. At the end of the cut she said, "much more manageable!," although I never mentioned that I couldn't manage it. Also, "2 years without a professional haircut," or "its because it was so long," did not seem like a valid excuse to me when I said that it was way shorter than I wanted. I hate to give isalon one star because everyone is so nice and she definitely took her time with the cut, but it is the only way I can express how I feel about my hair. Be cautious of getting your hair cut here if you wish to keep your long hair. The first 2 times were great, but this last time was enough for me to never go back :( read more

I had never gotten my hair highlighted or dyed before I went to iSalon. But Brenda was absolutely incredible! She listened to everything I ideally wanted and more than delivered! I got so many compliments on my hair and, as my hair grew out, the colors developed beautifully. Brenda knows exactly what she's doing - I know many people who have had bad or very short-lived hair coloring. My hair stayed soft and healthy and she gave me many tips on how to maintain that. I just went back to get further highlights and I will definitely be back again! read more

I'm a regular with my hair and now my nails. The woman who does nails is very sweet, gives a great foot/leg massage, and the price for a pedicure is quite reasonable. I only have two suggestions: (1) get better lighting for the nail room...it is too bright; and (2) encourage hair stylists to get better with scheduling. I've had to sit and wait several times. I respect people's schedules, show up before my appointment time, but often have to wait beyond the time for the previous customer to be finished. read more

It was that time of the year, summer is approaching, my previous highlights had outgrown and I wanted to go a few shades lighter. After searching for salons around my area, I found iSalon through Yelp. I was intrigued by the before/after pictures and raving reviews and decided to book my appointment with Betty online asking for an ashy brown ombre. I received my online confirmation the day after and the night before the appointment I received a phone call from iSalon confirming again. The day of the appointment I arrived early and was greeted by the receptionist. She offered water and an iPad while I waited. She then tells me that Betty is running late and will be in about 30 mins. My scheduled time was at 1:00pm but Betty didn't come in and take me in until 2:00pm. Although she apologized, I became a little eh due to the 1hr wait. During the consultation, she asked me if I still wanted an ashy brown ombre. I showed her pictures and the color of how I wanted my hair to look and instead wanted a natural balayage ombre. I told her I did not want the color to be brassy or orangy but an ashy light brown. The entire process took 3hrs and in the end I was not happy with my results. The ombre didn't look natural. 1/4 of my hair was still black while the rest was orange. The overall damage was $145 including a 20% discount and tips. I came home and my friends/family were also not amazed by my hair. I phoned the next day to rescheduled an appointment since their website offers 100% guarantee on all services within 7 days. I was promptly greeted and taken in on time with Lynn. I told her what I didn't like about my hair and showed her the same pictures/color of what I wanted. The color correcting process took 1hr. During the blow-drying step, Lynn asked if the color she achieved was what I wanted and she nailed it. Jessie helped styled my hair while Lynn had to go to her other client. I enjoyed talking to both Lynn and Jessie and were both very knowledgeable on how to maintain and care for my new haircolor. iSalon did not charge me again, but I couldn't leave without tipping Lynn for color correcting my hair. For any potential clients: Lynn is great at achieving the ombre look. Although I left satisfied the second-time, I think I will stick to my original salon I've been going to. The amount of money and time spent waiting because my stylist was running late wasn't worth it in my opinion. read more

Thanks fellow Yelpers... I too FINALLY found my hairstylist! I went here not knowing what to expect... I came in before 11 (my appt time) and as soon as I opened the door, this lady greeted me with all smiles and soon, two ladies chimed in. They all offered me water, coffee, or tea. (The first person that greeted turned out to be the owner, Brenda and the other two were the receptionist and the assistants.) Desi, the hairstylist that I booked my appt with per fellow Yelp suggestions (due to my frizzy, thick haircut.) She asked me what I wanted and what cut. I told her I wanted layers, thinned out (to make it feel lighter) and to cover my white hair. She suggested the color and I told her, sure... let's do it. After the highlights, she washed and dried my hair. Then she flattened it and that's when she started cutting away. That's the first I've seen that technique. In all the hair salon I've been... it was always wash, cut and dry. No wonder my layers didn't look layered. While waiting, they offered me their iPad...which was pretty cool since I've yet to play with it and now I'm a fan! This place rocks. It's clean, hairstylists were very professional and their friendly towards one another and they're very modern. Desi rocks! I'll see you in 8 weeks! read more

I was desperate for a cut...DESPERATE! And my brows were in dire need of attention The stylist that I have been going to for years wasn't working out anymore. I was in need for a change. A girlfriend of mine recommended that I give Brenda a try. I finally did.... The minute I checked in, a young man confirmed my appointment and immediately offered me a beverage and handed me an ipad. THAT'S COOL SERVICE RIGHT DERR!!!!! Brenda was running behind schedule but I didn't mind since I had the ipad to play with. Linda, a young Filipino girl with long, purple highlights greeted me first. She was soft spoken, had a gentle touch, and knew exactly what kind of brows she was working with. Most places will wax me up and spit me out in less than 10 minutes. But not Linda; she really paid attention to her craft. My brows were tastefully shaped. She also made sure that I knew how to treat the redness I usually experience from a wax treatment. Thanks for the tip! Then along came Brenda [insert Angels singing here]. Brenda is like......the Vietnamese version of Keri Hilson! Gorgeous with such a beautiful smile - she totally screamed FLAVOR! She proceeded with a hair wash, my most favorite part of getting a hair cut. Head massages are the best! Sigh. Then she leads me to her chair where the transformation begins. I gave her the 411 on my hair: I LOVE VOLUME AND AM ALL ABOUT LAYERS! Brenda suggests a few ideas and saves me from shaving it all off! A couple of perks to keep in mind: -they carry Bumble & Bumble products. The best stuff ever! -they carry Lilash if interested! I sure was. -you get 20% off your first visit. Saved me a bundle. -cuts starts at $45 and brows at $15. That's reasonable compared to salons in the city. -did I mention the ipad and the free beverages? She had me at the head massage....I'm sticking with this place for good! read more

It's been almost two months since I got my haircut. I was letting it grow out before I ridiculed the style. I've been patient and no matter what I do, my hair won't cooperate, even when I curl it. I literally want to scream every morning, but I'm too busy right now to make the effort. My normal guy in Fremont cancelled right before his vacay and left me looking for someone quick. I decided to try iSalon, since there are so many rave reviews. Not knocking: *SUPER friendly desk staff and stylist *Clean facilities *Online appointments Majorly disappointed with the layers in my hair, it's basically two layers, one long and the other 5" shorter, just hitting my shoulders and flipping out in the most annoying way. Probably one of the worst cuts I have had in years. At $45, not bad, still 50% more than my normal cut and terribly hard to manage. My ponytail holders have been getting a workout these past two months. read more

Updated review! I've had 3 or 4 services here before having an appointment with Ashley P. yesterday. Services were running a little behind so they called me to let me know and to ask if I could come later. Notice appreciated. Ashley gave an excellent head massage while shampooing my hair. It was very relaxing. Felt like I was seeing a masseuse not a hair stylist. Later, she let me talk about exactly what I wanted and told me very clearly and detailed what she was going to do. I thought it was a bit much at first but I changed my mind instantly when I realized if someone else has the scissors, the more communication the better. She also shared a lot of her passion with me. Told me stories about school and working hard to get where she was. It made me feel like I made the right choice. She was dedicated. That's who I want cutting my hair. Oh.. and my hair turned out... one a one to ten scale, I'd give it a 14. I was actually shocked. She did something with the layers I've never seen before. I dug it. Good hair, great hair. Sincerely, Thank you. read more

After i was done she told me if i still needed some adjustments i can come back within 7 days. I was thinking it should be okay, until i went home i have second thoughts. So i went back the next day, lucky they could fit me in a schedule and once again diane took the time to see what can be done for me and started to work on my hair. I want to thank Brenda for fitting me in after my regular hairdresser left the salon. I've been a customer for many years and went out of my way to tip employees heavily once they reopened after the pandemic closure because I wanted to take care of people. I was fairly disappointed when I was told I would have to wait over a month for an appointment, but was pleased when they found an open appointment for me a few weeks earlier. For 1/2 the haircut I was repetitively told that it was the owners day off and when my hair cut was rung up the normal haircut which was 60 was now 90. If you didn't want my business then you shouldn't have squeezed me in on your day off and someone should have mentioned that the costs would have increased by 50%x. Before isalon, I can honestly say I did not have a go to salon or stylist. However, this is now the place that I will continue to come back to for haircuts, and is also the salon where I first colored my hair. Prior to this experience, I had never colored my hair before, and was skeptical to do so due to the maintenance that was required. However, after seeing several of my friends' color results by Dinah I decided it was worth giving a try and booked an appointment for a subtle balayage ombre. Upon arrival, the receptionist was extremely sweet and offered me drinks as well as snacks. I had actually came a bit early, but Dinah was kind enough to start working on me before my scheduled appointment. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my hair to be, and after glancing at it for a quick second, she knew exactly what she had to do to deliver the results I desired. Although the color process took several hours, she along with the other staff made sure that I was at all times comfortable and catered to my every need. We were able to achieve the ashy brown balayage ombre that I wanted, all in one session. Overall, I am extremely impressed by the color technique exhibited by my stylist Dinah, as well as the client care and service demonstrated by the rest of the isalon staff. I highly recommend anyone looking for a new haircut or a change in color to give this salon a try. Tips: - Make an appointment; everyone is always booked at least a week or two in advance - Know what you want; come in with pictures or a clear idea of what you want - Consult stylist about maintenance requirements. read more

After my mom came here for a haircut which looked pretty good I decided to give it a shot. I usually go to Seven Salon in Oakland but it's pretty pricey. This is much closer to my house and just as chic. One afternoon I decided that it was time for a haircut so I walked in without an appointment and ended up with Sandra who did my cut. She's was very nice but I was not as satisfied with my cut. I asked for lots of layers from the top because my hair is really thin and flat so I needed those layers for volume but I ended up with a cut that was good but not as layered as I wanted. It's been about a little over a month and my hair already needs a cut. The cut that I got quickly lost it's shape so I'm going back tomorrow to see Tracy this time and get a bang trim, maybe a full cut, I haven't decided yet but hopefully I won't be disappointed again. EDIT// So I went in for a cut and I'm pretty happy with the results so far because typically, when you go for a cut and after they style it's not the same as when you style at home so I feel like it looks different. But I would like to say, so far so good. Tracey is really good, making sure its exactly what I wanted. read more

Read on sfgate that iSalon is #4 in the Bay Area... what are the odds that's in Alameda?! I went to their site, and made an appointment online (definitely a plus!), and received a confirmation the next morning. I must have screwed up my days, and basically showed up on a different day. Embarrassing! Long story short, the gentlemen on the front desk managed to hook me up with Sandra. Thanks, uh what's your name? Also, thanks for feeding my meter; and thanks for letting my son use the iPad also! (now he thinks you guys are the coolest!) I am happy with the way Sandra cut my hair, the style, and just her friendliness. The salon was overall pretty clean; and staff was accommodating. Just like other yelpers, I came here with an open mind - not knowing what to expect...Anyway, I am very pleased with the outcome, and will definitely recommend this place. I really wanted to cut my hair. I mean it's really nasty with split and dry ends... chlorine and hair don't mix well... So naturally it was time for me to cut my hair. And I had been looking at iSalon for a while and decided, yes I should go there because I don't want to make the trek to Milpitas and depends if my fam is going there. Looking at the reviews, I got Jessica. I was scared that she would cut my hair too short, but she cut it to the right length. Plus the scalp massage was awesome. After it, I really liked my layers, it wasn't too choppy, and it had a lot of layers. This should last for a while... Went to practice a few hours later (they saw my hair in the morning, pre cut and eww) they liked it. Which means, I'm back and with the 20% student discount, hell yes. (But my cut was $40... with the 20% in.- first timers) Which is kinda a lot to me, but it's pretty! (Mom likes it too) read more

I discovered iSalon via yelp a couple yrs ago and I have been a client ever since. Brenda, the owner, is a topnotch city stylist in lil Alameda; I suggest you take advantage of her talent. She's got a great sense of humor and is clearly passionate about her profession - perfect combo in my book. The salon itself is welcoming - with iPads, refreshing drinks, and a friendly staff. It's sleek, stylish and trendy. I have seen every type of person in there - be it hipsters, LGBT, soccer moms/dads, kids - all are welcome. They know how to style hair - funky or traditional, they've got you covered.
