A long overdue review! I've been going to Ling and Eddie for years to get my hair done. Love going to them when I'm looking to try a new hairstyle or cut. My most recent trip, I wanted to do a more vibrant color with my hair since I'm working from home for the next few months. I sent a few pictures in advance of my appointment to ensure they had the right color. It wasn't my first time dying my hair but it was the first time going this extreme and I have to say, I LOVE IT! Eddie always does an amazing job with color. I trust him and Ling completely! I've previously done a light blonde ombré through them a few years ago and loved that to. Same great haircuts just at a different location! Ling and Eddie are now at 2003 High street in Alameda. They have two parking lots, one in the front and one in the back right before the High Street Bridge. I only get hair cuts here but they do have other services like getting your hair dyed and I belive perms and hair dos for special events. Definitely call ahead to book an appointment. They are very customer focused and will help you with your hair needs! read more

My son was alarmed when he went to the Webster Street location because we didn't know that the salon moved during the Covid pandemic. After all these years of coming here for a cut, I decided to try my first balayage coloring. Ling did an incredible job. I'm obsessed with the results! I went for a mixed auburn brown tone for my hair that I've grown out for nearly a year. Ling first gave my hair a light trim and layering before applying any color. Then she meticulously covered each layer with creme coloring, alternating between a mohogany and a lighter brown. It did take a while for the color to absorb cause of the dark hair (almost 3 hours), but the time was worth it. Following the wash and dry, I could definitely see the shades of each color blended beautifully into each layer upon layer. I'm so happy I finally got around to trying the balayage :) Will keep coming back for all my cuts and coloring! read more

I had an appointment with Mrs. Siu who owns the salon. She is AMAZING. I showed her an image of what I wanted: hair cut short (all the same length) and ashy brown balayage. I got that for the most part, I just have to come back because my hair was way too orange from the previous dye job I got at another salon that we couldn't necessarily accomplish what I wanted in one session. That's okay. She got rid of 90% of the brassy hair I was rockin so I'm so happy with the outcome. She was very patient with me as it took 6 hours to deal with my crazy thick and curly hair. Hard to imagine that after bleach and toning, I left the salon with softer and healthier hair. Let me just say the shop is really well kept and clean. The staff is attentive and friendly, as so are their customers. I will definitely come back in a few weeks to tone my hair again so we can accomplish that ashy brown I've been aiming for. read more

Ling is the only person I allow to cut my hair. My mom used to cut it for me because shes a hair dresser, but she moved to Hawaii and since then I have had bad haircuts. I feel so lucky to have found Ling because she's amazing! She listens to me and what I want, and she tells me if what I want will not look good for my face shape, which I super appreciate. She modifies what I want to what will make me look best which is why I will never go to anyone else. This is the best hands down salon for asian hair in the whole Bay Area. I always feel like I am in good hands with Ling who has decades of experience cutting hair. I actually followed her from her downtown Oakland location to Alameda because she is that good. The prices are extremely reasonable for the incredible quality of the haircut you get. The only place I feel like that compares is Los Angeles Koreatown where they really know how to cut asian hair. So if you are someone from LA who has been hunting for a similar price to quality ratio then Ling at New Image is it!!! I stopped by as a walk in because I noticed they had threading at this salon. I had not find anyone to thread my eyebrows in Alameda yet. Kalpana cleaned up my eyebrows nicely and she did my waxing. I was happy to find somewhere to get both things done. Not only is Kalpana friendly she taught me about the different types of wax and made suggestions of natural remedies to try 24 hours before my next wax. Her prices are reasonable. I LOVE this salon. I always leave with the layers I want and a price I can afford. It's not cheap, but for half the price of some of the more "upscale" salons I've been to, I get a better quality cut from a stylist that consistently LISTENS to my requests and ACTUALLY FULFILLS them. On slower days, I might even get a free wash or or get my hair straightened/curled after it's cut. On top of the great price and service, I keep coming back because Eddie can achieve the Asian-style layered looks I prefer--something that generic chain salons of the same price range don't really understand. :) The only minor downside about going here (and because it's minor I won't dock any stars for it) is that it's a cash-only joint. For those who forget, there's an ATM that'll gladly charge you annoying service fees just outside at the nearby bank. read more

Pro's- They're nice The Salon is new and clean Con's- They are obviously too cheap to pay to heat the salon because it was freezing in there! Hair cut was mediocre Hair highlights were the worst I have ever had. I asked for a light honey blonde highlights and what I received was orange ugliness. Highlights were not consistent in color either. My portion of highlighted hair is fryed They still charged me full price They said if I want to come back they'd fix my poor excuse of a highlight job. But I mean come on if they try and "fix" the disaster they created it'd probably be another disaster. I'll never be back or recommend them to anyone. -A very dissatisfied customer read more

I am asian and I have really difficult to cut hair. It sticks out all over the place and I have two cowlicks on the sides of my head that can't be tamed. So when I find a good place, I stick to it! Eddy is the guy in the picture and he's my stylist. He spends a lot of time on my hair and uses actual scissors to cut! Imagine that! Most I've been to just whip out the trimmers and they're done inside of 5 minutes, with ill results. Eddy is very precise and takes his time and I've yet to walk away unsatisfied. In fact, I'm going today, but just searched for them so I could try and make an appointment as they can be busy sometimes. read more

Called in and made a last minute appointment for a hair cut. I rarely have time to go to the salon so when I do I need a great haircut from some one who will not chop off all my hair because of my lack of getting trim every 3-5 months. Came in at my scheduled time, and was out of the place 45 minutes. The man ( I think it was the owner) who cut my hair took his time and listened to everything I wanted. Nice folks, very affordable ($35 for a cut!), clean place, even if it is completely devoid of character... I don't know how long the salon has been open but it still doesn't seem to have a personality. And I really wanted to like this place BUT no matter how sweet the people are, it still comes down to the haircut. If you like the fobby look with the very short layers on top and the kinda stringy ratty looking "tails" coming out the bottom, you might be happy coming here. But I am definitely not a fan of the fobby look, and even though I tried to give him every instruction to make it look the way I wanted--short of saying "DON'T MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A FOB!!!"--I left the salon with a cut that looked decidedly fobby. Sigh. I will never come here again :( read more
