Raquel is AMAZING! I wish I would have found her sooner. I don't regularly get my haircut, but she might have just changed that. Typically I will just trim it myself and don't have time to go to a salon nor do I trust anyone, but after reading Yelp and Google reviews and checking out her instagram I decided to give her a chance. I loved that when you booked you were asked questions about your hair type, health and what you were looking to do. When I came in I was warmly welcomed be everyone. Raquel was asking me more questions and referred back to others I had already answered. She was SOOO thorough asking about length, styling, and even telling me about if she cut the layers and how it would look in a ponytail. I immediately felt at ease and the process from there was so relaxing. She washed my hair ensuring the water temperature was comfortable and so was I, no awkward sitting. Then when she started cutting she showed me exactly how much she'd be taking off and continuously talked with me about what she was doing. We had a great conversation and she is such a sweet woman. If you can't tell from the pictures I walked out feeling like a million bucks. When I walked through the door my husband literally said, " WOW baby look at you, your hair looks great!" Went in today for a hair consultation. I have been going to Aveda salons religiously since I was 20 y/o and I'm 35 now. Never have had a problem & I'm and easy going person. Currently have bleach blonde ends and my roots are grown out. Anyway, the male stylist was not a warm person. Felt like he didn't listen and he kept showing me colors I didn't like. Like in an argumentative way and he had to be right instead of listening to me. Anyway, he literally told me the picture I showed him (blonde hair with light brown low lights) was the same as a red head on the wall. He just wanted me to agree with him lol. Looks good on profile but when I went in for consultation, one staff said he can't give layers to my long straight single layer hair. I spent some time trying to be patient and understand what he meant that he's "not able to do that". He kept touching my head very roughly, making me feel uncomfortable, while he insisted on turning me away for a simple layer cut project. I came to accept his point that he had no competency in doing a later cut, and made my mind to leave him alone. I went to another salon on the next day and a girl who's practicing for 5 years did a fantastic job. She got what I wanted in a minute and did a beautiful work! (She's at isalon by the way). In a nutshell, staff at this salon needs to work on training. Training in better communication, demonstrating respect and sensitivity (for touching), and maybe cutting hair. read more

I am so upset about how Monique did my hair. I had previously had my hair dyed a strawberry blonde color. I went in to have it darkened a bit and the roots covered up. I could tell while she applied the dye that it wasn't thorough enough and it did not cover my roots. I told her this and she told me not to worry and that this is how it's supposed to be applied. Lady, this ain't my first rodeo. Anyway, the color came out mousey brown (awful) and surprise! The roots were still painfully visible. It looks like I'm growing out a mousey brown dye job. I will need to have this fixed somehow before my wedding which is in 2 weeks. On to the haircut, which is also exactly what I didn't want. I told her I was happy with the length and, as I have curly hair, to please not cut it any shorter because I like to wear my hair curly and, at 24 years old, I don't want to look like Shirley Temple. She took off a solid 2 inches in this "trim" and also took a solid inch off my bangs. Please imagine short bangs with unruly hair. Not cool. What frustrates me most is that the haircut itself is not bad. If I were a person like, say, a hair dresser whose JOB it is to style hair, this might be great. However, I wanted a low maintenance haircut that wouldn't require me to apply 10lbs of product to weigh it down, or to spend an hour with a flat iron every day. I explained this many times and was ignored. I don't even want to go back because I do not trust them to fix it properly. I'll go back to cutting my own hair so when it comes out atrociously, I won't have lost $140 in the process. Update: I went in today to have it "fixed." For free." I stated VERY clearly that I wanted it lighter and all one color. She proceeded to try to talk me into an ombré. Nope. Then she showed me some highlight options, but did not tell me I would be charged for them since this was to fix what she ruined in the first place. She proceeded to consult with a male staff member who didn't even look me in the eye or ask what I wanted. My hair is now somehow DARKER on the bottom and extremely light on the top. I actually hate it. I'm in disbelief. I look like early 2000s Kelly Clarkson. I hate hate hate hate these people!! Finally, on my way out of this "free fix" I was charged $85 for highlights. Jorge is an amazing colorist! Antidote was the very first salon that I got my hair professionally done at since my mom was paying for it and she has been going to Jorge for years even prior to him opening Antidote. Now today I have seen him 3 times and every time I've left a happy girl! He took my dark brown virgin hair to a healthy beautiful blonde. Since I have an ombré It is low maintenance and I can usually go 4-6 months without touching it up. I love how he adds highlights as well so I always have dimension in my hair. He cares a lot about the integrity of your hair unlike a lot of stylists that will just over process your hair to get your desired look in a short time that will ultimately leave you're hair damaged. Won't be bothering to return, there's so many other honest locations who are far more professional and have receptionists with better attitudes. Jackie is one of the most informed and educated estheticians I have ever seen. She is caring, enthusiastic, and pays attention to every detail. My skin is always so happy after I have a facial with her! She doesn't try to oversell products- she gives really honest feedback about your skin and what it needs. I have had three facials from her, and each one was a bit different, but all were amazing. She seems to keep learning new things all of the time, and treats me to different types of exfoliants, moisturizers and always help with my combo skin. She is open to any questions, and has a huge knowledge base when it comes to skincare. I love this place so much USUALLY, but they really disappointed me. Yesterday was My senior prom, and I called to make an appointment. The lady who answered said that they could do my appointment, so I was going to be late and kept calling them and their answering machine said if we don't pick up we are either busy or closed, but I assumed they were not closed because I had an appointment. Little did I know I walk up and the light are off the doors are locked and the sign says they are closed for employee appreciation day. Not only are they closed during prom season, but they didn't even call me in advanced to tell me that my appointment would not be possible. So last minute I had to go to ulta around the corner where they did a crappy job and ended up redoing my eye makeup myself. Usually they are reliable, but they lost all of my trust. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! I LOVE supporting small business and good people... These are NOT good people. I would leave less than one Star if possible. They were difficult to get an appointment with and when I went in I could smell the essential oil diffuser from outside. Inside smelled so strong of tea tree oil I could hardly breathe. They said that they could not and WOULD not provide a service scent free..... & all of the facials included essential oils.... ( I have been getting facials every 6 weeks for over 10 years... NEVER heard of such a thing) I was told that it would be no problem sending Groupon an email so I could get a refund. The receptionist was very sweet and professional. Too bad the Manager and Owner were so HORRIFIC! After 4 days of ME being patient and SUPER nice.... The manager called me back and said that it was not their responsibility to contact anyone. SUPER RUDE, aggressive and snotty. She said if a client came in and had an allergic reaction that they would do the same thing.... "sever their association and responsibility with the client." Exact words. I said, "good customer service would just be one email from you to Groupon so that I could get a refund." She said, VERY RUDELY... "NOT our responsibility." I never said it was their responsibility.... I asked them nicely to do it so I could get a refund since I purchased the expensive 3 pack - not a single service) instead of a credit).... They said no problem when I was in there. They then Talked to the owner and called back RUDE as can be.... So NOT necessary... I have a ton of frizzy, curly hair, and have had a hard time finding someone to give me a really good cut, but Jorge did it! You can tell he knows what he's doing by the confidence and speed with which he cuts, dries and flat irons. I am usually unhappy with salon blowouts because they don't seem to get close enough to my roots, so though the rest gets smoothed, it kinks up and frizzes up there -- when Jorge was done, it was straight and smooth from root to tip! I washed and dried my hair the next day, and it falls into place beautifully, which is rare -- I barely needed my flat iron, which is also rare. I would definitely recommend Jorge for a great cut and blowout/flat iron. read more

Why would I travel all the way to Alameda to get a facial? Heather, that's why! When I got a Living Social coupon for a one hour facial for a really good rate, I couldn't say no. Antidote is a lovely salon in an open mall that looks like it is at the final stages of being updated. It is an Aveda Concept Salon, which means the products are ones I trust and have used off and on for years. One of the things that is important to me when I get a "deal" of any sort is seeing if I would go there at full price. I absolutely will return to Antidote for various services (I saw them doing some really nice cuts, and they offer everything from color-nail-waxing and lashes) but I will go back without doubt for facials with Heather. She is super sweet, very professional, and even the pain staking process of extractions are done with precision and speed. The products were described to me while being used and at no point did I feel any pressure to buy stuff. The hour included a hand massage, shoulder/back massage and numerous masks and oils ( I have dry skin, so your experience maybe different) The hour felt luxurious and non rushed. Her workroom is super small, but very comfy . You will melt away stress very quickly! Things to know: Park near Bed Bath and Beyond--that is the closest entrance. The mall is on the far end of Alameda, so give yourself some time to get there. I was shocked when my GPS said 40 minutes from SF. It actually took almost 45 (there was a marathon today in Oakland). Don't forget during a facial that they need your shoulders and upper body clear of clothing, so you probably shouldn't wear a dress (lesson learned) Go! Heather is simply amazing and a truly talented esthetician - so great that I have become a regular client and have traveled with her as she furthers her careers in various spas. Living in the East Bay, it is much easier to find a spa that would fit my needs closer to home, but it is Heather's expertise, professionalism and gentle hands that draw me to travel to SF and now, Alameda, to be under her spell for a 90 minutes. She makes it her main priority to meet the needs of each individual client. Each visit I have had with her she has customized my facial to my specific areas of concerns and has left my skin looking flawless each time. My challenge as a dark skinned female is hyper pigmentation. Although a huge and frustrating project, Heather has worked with me to minimize the hyper pigmentation and find a regime that truly benefits my skin. Since we're on the topic of products - even better she is not a pushy saleswoman! She understands the costs and concerns that her patients may have, and develops a cost effective home kit for you! Her main goal is to educate her clients as well; she provides a quick consultation and describes the treatment that she plans on creating for you at the time of the service. During the service, she will educate you on the products and describe what she is doing to your skin and how it will benefit you. I relocated to Alameda from Denver, CO in August, and I hadn't had a haircut since last June. I booked an online appointment with a junior stylist. I'm a former hairstylist, and I just didn't want to pay a big price for a master stylist in case I didn't like this salon, so I thought I would give the junior stylist a chance. I got there 15 minutes before my appointment and was greeted by a cute little dog named Toby. I was immediately informed that the stylist I had booked with was out sick, but Angel was available. I knew from my research that Angel was going to cost more, but I was desperate and went with her. She was very sweet, and listened to what I needed and gave me one of the most amazing haircuts I have ever had! Even better, when I went to pay, I was told that they would honor the junior stylist price since that's what I had originally booked. I wondered if they would do that, but I wasn't going to ask, I wanted to see what they would do. A+ for that! I would give this a 5-star review, but the only thing that I didn't like was when I asked how much a bang trim between cuts would cost, I was quoted $15. That seems very high for a 5 minute service, so I'll be trimming my own bangs. Oh, and I LOVED the person at the front desk. She was sweet and funny, and made me feel very comfortable. Katey was fabulous and really listened to what I wanted, and did not cut too much off! She was able to give me the "fix it" cut I needed, re-shaping my overpriced and uninspired mullet/helmet-doo (from another salon in SF) into a fashionable unstructured bob, while leaving me as much length as possible so I didn't look like I just had a haircut for my big party on Saturday. When you call and tell someone you are having a hair emergency, sometimes you can hear in their voice an undertone of "It can't be that bad." When I whipped off my cap in the salon Jessica's face went blank and she said something like, "Oh, that's not good." So on Friday I had used a color remover (not a bleach!) on my dark brown graying hair. Done it before, had no problem. This time was a horror show. I wound up with bright orange, sort of cheeto colored hair with banana streaks and some sort of lemony spots. There was no way I could have come into the office today (Monday) looking like that. I was in shock going into Saturday. Thank all the sprites and fairies I remembered I had bought a Yelp deal for Antidote Salon a few months back. I called and was able to get in Sunday afternoon. I was prepared to beg, plead, bake, anything to get this situation seen to. Monique was my stylist and she did a great job with guidance and support from Jorge, and emotional and moral support provided by Jessica and Toby. Monique knocked it out of the park. I need to post some pictures but I went from the monstrosity of edible shades to a pretty light-medium brown with ash highlights, very caramel-y in tone. I love it so much. I didn't get it cut but Monique styled it beautifully. I've read some of the other reviews and all I can say is my experience was terrific. Everyone was where they said they would be when the were supposed to be. My needs were attended to. Jorge, Monique and Jessica were pleasant and friendly. While I was there I saw at least 4 other people receiving services. all seemed pleased with the outcome. My hair came out far better than I had expected it to - I honestly thought they'd have to just give me a basic brown to cover everything up. This was the definition of corrective color and it is fantastic. And that yippy dog mentioned in another review - Toby was a very cute gentleman when I saw him. Rude rude rude. Im a cosmetologist from out of town and walked in this morning trying to get my hair shampooed. I am staying with friends in Alameda and have fashion colored hair and didnt want to stain their shower/bathtub. I was told in an emprty salon that had 3 stylists in it, one of which was sitting at her station on her phone, that they were all too busy to take me and work on appt only. I was just asking for a quick shampoo service, no blowdry and style. My service wouldve taken 5 minutes to complete, but i was told to go some where else. Even after explaining that i walked there and was unfamiliar with the area. I was told "there are plenty of salons on park" when i responded with "i dont know where that is" she just pointed behind her saying it was the street that ran that way. I for sure will never go back being that im not from here, but i implore all of Alameda to get their hair done elsewhere. Do not give patronage to the rude people that work here. read more

Prices vary by how long the stylist has been working there and going through 'Antidote Salon training' - I was very happy with my stylist, who had been there 2 years but was still considered a 'middle level' stylist. Good for me because she did great cut and style and I didn't have to pay as much! - Abundant selection of products to purchase without much pushing/selling from the stylists which was great. If I want to buy something, I'll ask about it. So glad when stylists don't try to sell you $50 worth of products at the end - Within the west side of the shopping center, not seen by the parking lot. Gotta walk through toward the center, in between Bed Bath and Beyond and Radio Shack - Accepts walk-ins but appointments are better to have - Would be ok for teenagers but not really for small children. I bought the $75 gift certificate for $50 and am happy with the purchase. Sabrina did a good job cutting my long dark hair with layers around myface and shoulders. Every one at the shop seemed very friendly. I got a $35 haircut with deep conditioning (I have very long hair and normally get charged extra), and Aveeda smooth fly-aways cream, and I still have $16 credit left over, which I put towards a leave-in conditioner they are ordering for me to pick up later.
