Overall, my experience at this AT&T store was better than some of the other reviews would lead me to believe. I walked in on a Sunday early afternoon, and was immediately greeted by Francisco, who was friendly and knowledgeable about the different plans and current promotions. I'm not 100% satisfied because my initial question was whether or not my device (a generic chinese eBay phone) would work properly on their network. Earlier in the day I'd stopped by T-Mobile and they were honest with me that this phone wouldn't work well on their network, while Francisco didn't even bother to check the IMEI and just went ahead and signed me up. Shame on me for not being more persistent, but long story short while it works for phone calls and texts this phone doesn't support data. Would have been nice to know that before he signed me up for an unlimited data plan. Oh well, I have a better phone on order so next week I'll be able to use the data. I happened to look at their phone cases for one of my other phones while I was there - wowza - very expensive! If you know what phone you're going to get you'll be better off ordering the case online a day or two before you come in. As for the network, although that really has nothing to do with this specific location so I'm not at all factoring that into my star rating, AT&T is very much in the middle. Total I have three lines with Xfinity Mobile (Verizon), two with T-Mobile, and now one on AT&T. AT&T's network is better than T-Mobile's but not as good as Verizon's. read more

Earlier in the week, I bought a wired pair of earbuds, but they didn't work. I brought them back today and, with no other customers there, it took a half an hour to resolve this. I didn't get everyone's name, but the man who ultimately helped me, Harrison, had to wait for another worker, perhaps his boss, to come and help him figure out how to exchange the bad earbuds for a pair that worked. He was helpful enough, although he and another fellow who helped me or tried to help me both mumbled. The other young man, who seemed to have no clue what he was doing kept trying to upgrade me and sell me other things, but I only wanted to exchange the earbuds for a pair that worked. Dear Yelp, Please include the option for zero stars. How this AT&T store is in business completely blows my mind. We walked in on a Friday afternoon to try and merge phone lines. As soon as we walked in, the two customer service representatives grunted out a "hello". I told them what I wanted to do and they said they couldn't do that in the store and we had to call 611 and do everything over the phone. Well now that is interesting since we went up to the Novato AT&T store, got excellent customer service, were able to merge our phone lines, AND we got a discount on our wireless plan when we added internet and TV which ended up being way cheaper than what we were currently paying. Funny how that didn't come up in the conversation with the sales rep at the 4th St. AT&T store. If you don't like your job then search for a different job because you are doing yourself a disservice as well as your company and future customers. Life is too short to be that miserable plus it doesn't reflect well on the sales team/company. Don't waste your time going to this location, they will just tell you to figure it on your own over the phone unless you are adding a new line and then they are more than happy to assist you. read more

Walked in here to buy a new phone and saw only one employee and several customers waiting. The employee told me to take a seat, and it would be about 90 minutes before he got to me. I just had the best experience I've ever had with AT&T. I walked in 30 minutes before closing on a Saturday and I was greeted with genuine warmth and immediate attention. I only had to wait a couple minutes for someone to be available but I was acknowledged right away, which is super important in customer service. Even if they had not fixed my watch on the spot, I still would've walked out smiling. The manager and Michael both were very professional and courteous and knowledgeable. I am truly blown away. Typically I do not find that I have anything better than mediocre experiences with massive companies like AT&T, but I could not recommend this location any more. I was just at the AT&T store in downtown San Rafael California on fourth Street. I dreaded going anywhere the day after Christmas but I had to get a replacement Sim card for my daughters phone. I was helped by Marlon who I believe is a relatively new employee and he was guided by George. I could not have been more pleased with the help they provided, the patience they showed, the directions they gave me and the kind manner in which they approached their job and the excellent customer service!! They made what I thought would be a dreaded experience Into a simple, quick, comfortable event! Very disappointed in this store, the poorly trained staff and lack of management. Long story short, I purchased an Apple Watch with Activation fee + Data Plan that unfortunately wouldn't sync to my device. I spent hours with 3 different ATT SUPPORT techs who all concluded that this was a 'faulty device' and was entitled to a WARRANTY EXCHANGE. They even wrote case notes on my att account profile stating everything. For unknown reasons , store employee JOSEPH insisted on charging me $55 restocking fee on a warranty exchange. When I asked for a manager , he said NO MANAGER had showed up to work that day (7/6/2020) and that there was nothing else he could. I asked him if he could at least make an attempt in helping me sync and connect. He said " no I don't know how to do that" HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO ACTIVATE A CELLULAR DATA?! TO SUMMARIZE I had TO PAY $55 to return a WATCH because no one could figure out how to sync my cellular data. I had TO PAY $30 ACTIVATION FEE. Even though my watch was NEVER activated. I had TO PAY $10 DATA PLAN. Again, Never received it. STORE DOES NOT HONOR WARRANTY. read more

Discontinued service, or so I thought, only to find out they continued billing me, and failed to stop service upon request. I moved to T-Mobile, in April, ported 2 lines over, shut of off two additional. Called in and requested to cancel service, now $465 later, I find out they've been billing me ever since. My account reflects 42-43 calls to the company, and they insist, I didn't request to cancel service until July 4th! Only recently did I finally speak to someone in the United States, prior to this, all representatives stated they were either in the Philippines, or India! They all apologized, and yet failed to correct, nor offer any helpful solution., other than to pay them what they wrongfully billed. I hope this helps others to not fall prey, to AT&Ts shady practices, and any recommendations, on how to further hold them accountable, would be greatly appreciated. read more

After buying my teenager the new iPhone 5 for Christmas, I had questions about her data usage, texts, minutes, etc. I was greeted immediately by an Asian guy with an iPad jotting down my name and advising of the wait. Five minutes later, Joseph called me over to the counter and assisted with all my questions and concerns. He was not pushy about upgrades or overbearing with bundles, plans, or products. I was overwhelmed by his professionalism that I bought two more phones. Every AT&T has a huge clientele, it's hard for staff to appease everyone and their needs. This location treated me with friendly service; therefore, I must Yelp to get the word out. I'd like to suggest not visiting stores during peak hours or busy weekends. Do NOT choose AT&T as your cell provider in Marin County. 90% of the county gets 1 bar or is a dead zone. Especially in the canyons, hilly areas. The worst experience I have ever had. Joseph and Amanda are truly an example if the worst of the worst in customer service. I am 50, I run my own business and after only four minutes, Joseph , Amanda underling decided to use his power to escort me out of the store. LOL. This is an edited review I wrote for the att store in El Cerrito. Since moving over the bridge, I now have gone here. I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 at this San Rafael store so I thought I'd share a few words: It's dangerous to go into one of these places not knowing exactly what you're looking for. These are sales people. They are not customer service reps; they are not technical support. Actually, they are just the opposite. They want you to buy something and will say whatever they need to say to get you to buy it. They know that once you walk out of the store, any follow up with be with the folks that may know (tech support) what they're talking about. If you know what you're looking for (and I did) and maybe want some itsy bitsy advice on comparing devices (that you're already familiar with....), you (hopefully) won't get into too much trouble here. And chances are, this applies to most (all?) of the phone stores. I'm very fortunate that where I live and where I (tend to) travel, att is well covered. That said, att comes out in LAST PLACE when it came to value, voice, text, data and phone support, in the independent non-bribe-able Consumer Reports. Buyer beware! read more

This is for the AT&T company as a whole - PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM EVER unless you'd like to be strong-armed into paying money you don't owe and strong-armed into not being able to cancel your account with them - ever!!! I had a business on 4th Street and when they signed me up they were as sweet as pie. The minute I needed help, however, they were no longer available to help me. I've been trying to cancel my business account for over a month. I am no longer at the location but they will not let me cancel. They tell me the only way I can cancel is by giving them my account # which is currently piled high in a storage locker far away. They can't look up my account via my name, my SS#, my federal tax id number, the modem number, nothing. They say "this is for your security" which is completely illegal and untrue. So now my bills will be going to a closed business and opened by someone I don't know, and this is for MY security? They do this for one reason only - so you are forced to keep paying them. I asked: "Can you then give me my money back for the days you charge me that my business is no longer open?" and was told NO, they will keep charging me and not return one cent. I have a business lease for crying out loud, proving my closing date but that means nothing to AT&T. They make up their own rules. How do these companies keep getting business when their customer service is so abysmal? It doesn't even make sense. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF SIGNING UP WITH THEM EVER. read more

I procrastinated. From sh*tty T-Mobile service to Verizon, I was loathe to give up a good thing. But as of late, Verizon reception has not been bulletproof enough to justify its $$$ price tag. So I reserved an entire Saturday afternoon to wait on line and be underwhelmed by customer service. When we got there, we were #7 on line and figured it might take an hour to get a customer service rep. Surprisingly, we waited only half an hour. Our customer service rep was Duy, who was very professional and patient as we learned about the phone plans. At the end, we were happy to switch over from Verizon and sprung for the latest Galaxy phones- so far, so good! read more

Had a landline to be turned on today. Ha,ha AT&T has very poor service. It did not activate my now dead line, - they had promised when selling me the line to be done by 8PM. When called and asked about the time it took a ridiculous number of phone number changes, and a few hours before I was told, by the telephone operator that sounded under water, that my deadline would be connected in 24-48 hours. This was after waiting, getting told needed another number to call, which turned out only for wireless, then given another which was for only for Spanish speakers, then given another which was "being disconnected", and given another, and another. I have no experience with other carriers, but my experience with AT&T in Marin, specifically in San Rafael and San Anselmo leaves a LOT to be desired. Coverage is sporadic at best. At my home, I get a generous two bars, unless the wind is blowing in which case it bounces on and off. I went to the AT&T store and coughed up $200 for a Micro Cell, the amazing device that was going to end all my problems. The only thing is that the iPhone 4 I had and the iPhone 5 which I now have (also to try to fix the problem) will not automatically pick it up. So, in order to use it, I have to go unplug the device each time and plug it back in. And then sometime later ... it will link to my phone. Not right away. Sometimes not for an hour. If you are choosing a provider in this area, I would seriously suggest going with someone else first. Anything has to be better than this. P.S. I have talked to people at AT&T about this. It's a mystery to them. It's not a mystery to me. Their product sucks. And it's expensive. The best of both worlds -- for them anyway. read more

I spent about 5 minutes yesterday in the company of "Craig" a salesman at AT&T before I drove directly to Apple in Corte Madera to purchase my iPhone. Craig was most unwelcoming and positively rude to me. He raised his voice with impatience when I did not understand his explanation of how a system worked. I live in San Anselmo, so it would have been great to work with the nearby ATT store. I have found this store to be particularly awful. Here is an example: I went in last week wanting to buy a new Samsung S10e phone that from ATT I learned would be $599.00. When I entered the store, which was strangely quiet with the employees sitting around looking at their phones I asked the nearest employee "I would like to buy a Samsung S10e, do you have one?" The employee said he was not sure if they had one in back but "was I going to buy it outright, or finance it?" I told them I was not sure, but I wanted to buy one. He seemed annoyed, and went in the back, came back and said "no we don't have one." That was it, he never even offered to call another store, too much of a bother I guess. But here, finally, going into my local store, I met the most amazing individual who exemplifies customer service. Run, don't walk, and request service for whatever AT&T ails. Sounds like I'm rambling a bunch of adjectives, but in fact these are well thought out, and are precisely who he is and what he offers to the customer: Knowledgeable, tactful, efficient, courteous, patient, thorough. If I could give zero stars, I would. The level of intelligence and ability to follow the most simple timeline of issues had with my account is seemingly nonexistent. There should be some kind of ability to at least be able to understand a series of issues other than an inability to watch content on a phone. When you have an issue that actually requires an employee to think, the caveman mentality kicks in and they accuse you of being irate and threaten to kick you out of the store, when in reality, their lack of intelligence is so infuriating and unbelievable that the response from the customer is a reaction of disbelief. Also the fact that they are completely unable to solve your issue is deserving of the response by said customer. read more

But Joseph took care of all my needs in a most prompt manner while he was taking care of the queue of people, remembering everybody by name, and answering three customers at the same time. Today I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a retail store. I was lied to, given extensive misinformation, and was treated in a combative way by an ATT employee. To say the environment is unprofessional is a major understatement. The person that helped me (Craig) was singing loudly and playing with his personal phone while leaving me waiting for customer service for several minutes prior to helping me. He continued to sing in excessively loud bursts while helping me, inattentive and disengaged from me as a customer while "helping" me. I was there to pick up a SIM chip to take with me so I could activate my son's phone at home. He told me this was not possible because only he or his coworkers could activate a new SIM. When I called AT&T they said it has always been and continues to be their policy that SIM cards can be activated over the phone. Craig said ATT will not allow SIM chips to be given out to customers. I just called the Corte Madera store and they in fact will give out SIM chips upon request. Why is this information so amazingly inconsistent? I suspect the staff is on commission. Without telling me, he inadvertently disabled my son's phone by activating the new chip. I did not want this. My son was out of town. This has created a major headache for us. When I expressed to him the mistake he had made, he disrespectfully fired back at me, "you told me to do that" he repeated this multiple times- aggressively "in my face"- I felt upset and intimidated by his vibe. I, in fact, asked for a SIM card not for him to deactivate my son's phone, or activate the new SIM chip. His communication skills were abominable. When I asked to speak to a manager, he said he was the manager. I later found out this was not true. If Craig represents the future of AT&T, it will be no time before I'm with Verizon! If you must go to an AT&T store, do not go to this one. read more
