I made an appointment for an eye exam, completed the forms online, and recieved a text to arrive fifteen minutes prior to my appointment. I arrived a little before 9:45 a.m., and the hours on the door state they open at 10 a.m.; so for the misinformation, I took a star away. I checked in, and was taken to pre-exam room one, where the young woman did a few tests, then took me to pre-exam room two, to do two more tests including photos of my eyes. I was then asked to wait for the doctor. Dr. Nguyen greeted me and we started talking, she was very ethical. Due to some complexities with my health, Dr. Nguyen let me know that some of the testing I needed done could not be completed and she would refer me out to someone else. She offered me two choices, to have her complete the eye exam with the exception of testing needed elsewhere, or she'd refer me so that I didn't have to pay twice for an eye exam. I found her to be extremely ethical and caring, I chose to accept referrals elsewhere. I've been looking for a new eye doctor for years, and while I've been to a few, they all have to refer me elsewhere, or can't do filed vision testing. I appreciate her honesty and not charging me today. IF I could, I'd go back. In today's world, finding ethical people in the medical, dental, ear, and eye professions is nearly unheard of. read more

What a colossal waste of time. I made an appointment on the last day that my vision insurance is valid for 2025 and that was today, December 31. I went through about 30 minutes of testing with who I call "the desk kid". He kept saying "I will show it to the doctor, I will send it to the doctor. I will do this with the doctor", but he never explained that the doctor wasn't even on premises! He then said they are having problems with transferring information to the doctor remotely at her house so my appointment was ended at that point. He said "she cannot write a prescription for you today and this appointment is now over". I was incredulous, and I am still sitting in the parking lot incredulous. He never even said "when would you like to come back" or "what about next week?" It was just "we can't do it today, goodbye!". If you go to this "location" of LensCrafters and use these "doctors", it's your fault if something goes wrong because you have officially been warned. Run do not walk. Sad that this place turned out to be such a disappointing experience, on all of my visits. The first visit they were closed during business hours with a paper sign on the door that they weren't open. The second visit they were open and the store was busy, but no one would greet or seem to be helping any of the prospective customers. We all milled around trying on frames not knowing who of us even worked there. I'd never had glasses before, and though the frame selection was robust, the person who helped me place my order in the end up sold me on glass lenses when plastic would have been fine. I don't feel they were being honest with my best interests or understanding of the process in mind. No one in the store was really even able to explain why my insurance was paying the portion it did versus what I was responsible for. I was told I'd get a call when the glasses were ready to pick up. I never got a call. 15 days passed so I called them and they said oh yeah they've been ready for a while ... I mentioned I hadn't received any notice and they didn't even acknowledge it. At pickup, I was handed a fairly scratched up designer case. The glasses were too loose so someone adjusted them for me, or tried to. It seemed like he was struggling to adjust the fit. I have been a customer of lens crafters for 40 plus years. And brought in a new customer to them in January. We spent over 3 000 on glasses.Neither she nor I will ever return. I have never complained to them before about glasses. It all started when I came in to pick up my glasses. Nik who we later found out was the assistant manager was talking to a young woman,unclear co worker,customer or who bc he was very interested in her. He just handed me my glasses and returned to his flirting. Never offered to fit them. I just brushed it off and hoped they were OK. I am a 75 years old woman and somewhat used to being ignored. A few days later one of the 4 pairs of glasses broke. It was only 2 weeks from the date I purchased them. I came back and since it was an obvious manufacturers defect they were replaced. Well two weeks later a lens fell out of the same glasses in a store and I could not find it. Returned to store Nik refused to replace the lens even though clearly this is again a design or manufactures defect. Also we were originally told that if anything happens in 30 days we could bring them back. Clearly that's a lie. So now I seem to have to replace both lenses according to Nik Further disturbing while we were there a Hispanic couple came in. Nik asked if they had an appointment,to which they said "No" . He said "You have to have an appointment to come in". Later as we were trying to explain to Nik..that lenses just don't fall out..another Caucasian couple came in. I witnessed a disturbing occurrence at this LensCrafters this afternoon. I was with my friend waiting for a glass fitting when two older Latina's came in and we're chatting and laughing and looking at glasses. The young man, who I later found out was the assistant manager, approached them and asked if they had an appointment. When they said no he said, "Then I'm sorry without an appointment you have to leave." The women left. I thought it was a new Covid precaution and thought nothing of it at the time. However, about 10 minutes later a white couple came in and the same assistant manager asked them if they had an appointment. They said no and he said, "Well come in anyway and look around and I'll look at the book and see if I have an appointment or can fit you in." This, on its face, is as disturbing as it gets. We are kaiser members and prior to going to LensCrafter, my daughter had an apt w/Kaiser Optic - not only we could not understand the doctor's asian accent but she rushed through the exam cuz she was behind schedule. When she added the dilating drops in my daughter's eyes, my daughter had an immediate allergic reaction and fainted. Doctor never once apologized nor acknowledged my daughter fainted. Lens Crafters reached out to me yesterday to ask if I wanted an eye appointment. Made plans for 10:30 AM. I arrived at 10:27 AM to find the appointment was actually set for 10:20 AM and I missed their 5 minute grace period by 2 minutes. I was turned away. Couple of things: I was the only customer at Lens Crafters at all. I was arguably one of the only customers in the entire mall. This Lens Crafters location is in a ghost mall. Who schedules appointments at 10:20? Who informs you of a 5 minute grace period for appointments after the fact? Do they know they are located in The Bay Area? I of course was angry at making a 25 minute drive to get turned away at a dead Lens Crafters location in a ghost mall for an appointment they cold called me to make. But also, how deeply weird is all of this? How tone deaf does a business have to be? One that won't be in business much longer. read more

Ordering contacts is such a hassle, I had tried to order mine online through my insurance and there was a mix up and they cancelled my order and didn't return my benefits. LensCrafters on the other hand made it soooo easy. I ran out of contacts at that point and really needed a pair for the activity I had planned the next day. I asked if it was possible to just buy a box but the said I had to order, But they were happy to give me a trial pair while my contacts shipped. I tend to have nothing but positive experiences at all Lenscrafters I visit. This particular time I was accompanying my grandmother in getting a new pair of frames. Frames are a hard item to shop for and are expensive as hell, especially if you have a bifocal prescription like most seniors do. Luckily, a few days before, I got a coupon advertising 50% off a pair of lenses with a purchase of frames. The coupon added for tremendous savings and made perfect timing. The selection is diverse and caters to just about everyone. They have all the designer brands: D&G, DKNY, Burberry, Anne Klein, etc. The staff is knowledgeable and especially helpful in guiding you toward the right pair of frames. The young gentlemen that helped us, Felix(?), was nothing but professional, patient, and helpful. He helped my grandmother find a pair that she really liked and was a nice guy all around. Lenscrafters prices are steep, but with the coupon we had, I like to think we came out ahead. I recommend this Lenscrafters location for all your optical needs. read more

I've been a customer of this company since 1999, and have purchased four pairs of glasses (and sunglasses) from them throughout the years. Maybe like other customers, I go for a new pair of glasses every 2-years and end up using their in-house service (EyeExam 2000) for the eye checkup. My typical bill ends up being around 350 to 450 dollars for glasses and the exam, and in all I've spend around $1600.00 (if not more) with them. My last purchase was in 2006 for a pair of sunglasses and prior to that was late 2003. I haven't given much thought to the company until last night when surprisingly the coating from my pair of prescription glasses purchased in late '03 began to literally start chipping off each lense. The glasses resembled some kind of mosaic crackled art-piece, and I called the San Francisco store to see what the deal was and whether this was normal. I spoke to the manager at the store and he mentioned that poly-carbonate lenses have that problem and the remedy was to purchase a new pair of lenses. I'm a little shocked because my old pair from 1999 doesn't have that problem and I still use them. I protested and explained that lenses should be warranted and this appeared more like a product defect and should be covered by the manufacturer, but the manager assured me that it was normal wear and tear and that it happens all the time. So much for long term use! How much is a new pair of lenses? $120.00, but the real question is should the coating literally disintegrate after 4 years? Especially when none of my other glasses have that problem, including my still very usable 1999 lenses which are fine, if not perfect, compared to the '03 ones. Like I mentioned, I hadn't given retailers like LensCrafters much thought until I remembered the 3 times it took them to get my 2006 sunglasses right. The San Rafael LensCrafters cracked my RayBan sun glasses on the first go around, and the second time the lenses were warped and cracked at the corner, but the third time was a charm. Mind you, I fought with them to cover the defects then, which they claimed as normal with the installation process. I live in San Francisco, so the back and forth was hardly convenient, not to mention the bridge toll and the time. All of which leads me to discuss my conversation relating to the coating off my 03 glasses to the regional manager at the San Rafael store. I related that the glasses were seldom used and the manager claimed that humidity might have caused the problem. Basically, she offered every excuse as to why they wouldn't be covered and claimed my environment as being the problem. She offered no solution other than to replace them at full cost to me. Now, perhaps this isn't a huge issue as knowing my history I'd be in there soon enough for another pair of glasses, but the manager never took this into consideration while pulling up my info. No Goodwill! Now, it seems to me that popping out lenses in under an hour might not be such a great thing. LensCrafters is sacrificing quality for quantity, and replacing my defect wouldn't really cost much considering that they destroyed my sunglasses 3 times to finally get them right. The strange coating that appears like a mosaic crackling effect on my lenses seems hardly "wear and tear" and more like poor craftsmanship or lack of durability. The company should stand behind their product. I called the manager of both stores, San Francisco and San Rafael to discuss the issue, but they weren't interested. I mentioned my 1999 pair of glasses not having the problem and they were still yawning. And even though the district manager seemed to agree that the coating on the lenses shouldn't be coming off, she said "too bad" and buy another pair. I asked if their would be some discount, and sadly not. Therefore, I wouldn't give my business to this company or their affiliates (Sunglass Hut), because they've lost the ethic of building customer "Goodwill." Proudly, I searched Yelp for an optometrist recommendation and found one here in the outer Sunset. I have an appointment Saturday and brought up the coating issue. Not that they were interested in stealing a customer, but they agree the coating shouldn't be flaking off. All of this again begs the question of whether glasses in under an hour sacrifices long term quality. My other question is when one buys eye glasses, wouldn't this be a durable good since we expect them to function and last reasonably for some time? At least till our sight changes? Furthermore, when we replace glasses, often we donate them to less fortunate people with eye problems. But what good is shipping off glasses with defects to other countries? My guess is that it becomes someone else's land fill issue!! In closing, LensCrafters has poor customer service and poor quality. Goodwill you may think you have established with this company is sadly realized when an issue like the crackling lenses materializes. read more

I saw Dr. Iwami?, He was very nice and competent. I had to bring my 15 month old son with me (i had a last minute baby sitter fall out). I was pretty nervous, I was on my last pair of contacts which I couldn't wear due to the fact when I wore them it seemed as if I was looking through fog, my glasses were broken(which I had fixed with scotch tape). So sporting my taped together glasses (I never wear glasses, I feel like I am getting motion sickness when I do), I sucked it up and dragged my son along to Lenscrafters. Arriving ten minutes late (due to traffic and stroller technical difficulties) this was just not my day... The technician was so friendly and didn't even miss a beat when I told him I had to bring my son and I was late. He helped to entertain Ronin and do the preliminary eye stuff until I saw the doctor. When I saw the Dr. I have never seen an optometrist move so quickly, maybe it was because he had a daughter the same age at home and new at any point all hell could break loose. He got me fitted in new contacts and out the door in less than half an hour. I had a great experience, 5 stars for customer service 4 stars for pricing (paying $160 to get the same prescription I had seems like a waste of time to me, but I am not an optometrist). read more

enscrafters northgate san rafael July 10, 2018 --- totally negative experience at this location. They broke my glasses!!!!! I called them on two occasions prior to my visit as I needed only to replace lenses of my prescription glasses. I called to find out how best to do this, costs involved and time it would take as I was driving from one hour away. I live in Sonoma town. I still very much like like my frame which is 3 yrs. old and only needed new lenses due to the reflective coating deteriorating. After I paid them the $430 and ordered the lenses they actually BROKE my frame manipulating it to put my old lenses back in while I wait 10 days for new ones to be made. It was by accident but the problem is they don't have a selection of anything like my glasses and their "policy" is to only replace from within their stock. Imagine how I felt! I had no glasses to drive back home with and not only that -- they are rigid about replacement process. The manager was diplomatic but repetitive in his unbending policy. My frames are made by Kate Spade and are pricey. I was at the store for over a hour, feeling BLIND without my glasses and pressured to leave as all the manager wanted to do was to give me a refund on the $430 and get me out of his store as I insisted they need to help me more than just allow me to choose from their very limited -- nothing comparable to my style array of glasses. Horrible experience!!!!! It is the day after, I have no glasses and now I need to find a frame and start shopping. I am wearing contacts but have sensitive eyes and this is not a daily solution for me. I wear my glasses for work. I have nothing in writing from them about their obligation to help me find a replacement frame. The final outcome, after I insisted to talk to corporate is for me now to submit the receipt for the cost of the frame from 3 yrs ago and they will pay it. It took me an hour of unpleasantness to negotiate this!!! Well prices have increased and I am digging through my files at 6:00 am on a work day to try to expedite getting a working pair of glasses for myself as soon as possible. I cannot find the receipt -- so now what? Call them and deal with more hostility and rigidity? I am not looking forward to it. Lens crafters is staffed by people who do not know what they are doing and have no professional ethics or power to deal with this extraordinary situation --- which is causing me much duress, inconvenience and far more money then I planned to spend. I am now having to replace both frame and lenses. I am writing this review -- so you are spared the extremely poor response when you need them to treat you like a customer and give you some customer service - AS THEY DON'T! ADDENDUM A WEEK LATER: I would like to hear from someone from this shop or corporate with an apology --- I have gone ahead and given them more money to complete the job....but they still owe me $37!! I was: 1.) told I would have a co-pay for the eye exam with my insurance plan (I didn't, and was asked to pay full price); 2.) told that with my insurance plan, my regular lenses would cost $350 and be more expensive if I purchased progressives; 3.) told I would have to buy new frames to accommodate progressive lenses; the frames I was using weren't large enough. Thank God I went to another optometrist -- without insurance, I paid $250 for progressive lenses and could use my present frames... saved a few hundred dollars. I didn't get the name of the kind man who helped me, but he was my knight in shining armor tonight. Earlier in the afternoon my glasses--purchased at Kaiser several years ago--literally fell apart. The screw was barely hanging on to the top half of my glasses but the bottom half popped away and the lens fell out. I spent an hour trying to reassemble them but I just could not get the pieces to stay aligned long enough for me to screw everything back together. Finally I did manage to prop the lens in place so I could dash off to work. The lens was at a weird angle so my vision was distorted all day, but I dared not touch a thing. In years past, the kind folks at Lenscrafters had adjusted my frames for me, even though I'd purchased those glasses elsewhere, so I called them again. "Bring them in" the lady said "and we'll see what we can do." As I walked into their store I touched my face and the lens popped out and landed on the carpet. My hero approached and took my glasses off to the back, soon returning with my glasses properly reassembled. What a relief! I asked what I owed and was assured that there was no charge but was directed to a donation jar on the counter to help fund healthy vision for underprivileged. The saga continued as I recollected the horrifying green gunk that had accumulated on my nose pads, and I asked if those could be swapped out for new pads. My helper agreeably took my glasses away again and promptly returned them with fresh clean pads installed. Once again I offered to pay and once again I was assured that there was no charge, and directed toward the donation jar. I gratefully made a donation. I actually signed up for Yelp in order to write this review--it's so much easier to complain than it is to compliment kindness but I did not want this store's helpful generosity to go unnoticed or unremarked. read more

I've worn glasses for nearly 15 years, and have always gone to a private optometrist. I recently moved and decided to give LensCrafters a shot. WOW!!! I'm so glad I did!!! I booked my appointment online for 2 days out. I get to my LensCrafters and am immediately helped by a very nice lady. After filling out the new patient paperwork I get a bit of time to look around and try on frames. After that I'm led back to the pre-screening rooms where I get a super cool retinal image taken. I had only seen LensCrafters from walking by them, never actually being in one. DAMN they're nice! I wouldn't be able to tell it apart from a private office if it weren't in a mall. I get to the actual doctor and get my exam. Everyone is super efficient, professional, and really very nice. The doctor is personable and likable while still efficiently doing her job and getting me through the exam. At the end I'm asked if I want more time to look at frames but I had already picked mine out. I get over to the fitting table where everything is processed, measured and fitted. I pay and am told to come back in an hour for my glasses. ONE HOUR?!? How amazing is that!!! I'm so used to waiting about 2 weeks for glasses, this blew my mind! Absolutely fantastic!!! Went in on a Sunday, systems were down, I choose a pair of frames and informed them I would not be able to return on Monday however hold onto the frames and call me with the pricing and coverage on Monday once Austen's are up. Stopped by Tuesday, nobody could find frames, they asked me to look for another set of frames and spend another hour to two doing it. Walked out without a pair of glasses. No apologies offered either. Of woman called to ask two weeks later now if I still wanted glasses, explained to her what had happened, she just hung up the phone. Yet no apology offered. The bad reviews of this place surprise me. I had an appointment today and it went smoothly. The people were professional, polite and a pleasure to spend time with. I saw Dr. Vuong and she was fantastic! I found her to be especially easy to talk to and communicate my questions and concerns to. At different places in the past, I haven't felt as comfortable talking to the employees, but not here. She even recommended a new type of contacts that would work better with my lifestyle. Chris (I think that's his name) was great also when getting me started with all the tests before I went in with the Dr. He was happy and explained everything he was doing. And he pulled the perfect pair of glasses for me as well! To the reviewer that was upset over being seen 15 minutes later than his appointment time, you should consider yourself lucky. I work in the medical field and I can't begin to describe the number of people who show up late, whose appointments end up being much more involved or complicated than expected or who simply just have a lot of questions or concerns for the doctor. Not to mention the possibility of an emergency. All these things can make the doctor run a little behind. Its good medicine to not rush through an appointment simply to keep up with the appointment schedule. Wouldn't you want the doctor to spend as much time with you as he/she can and not rush you? And I'm sorry, but don't try to "squeeze" a medical appointment into anything, make time for it.... Anyway, they got me in rather quickly. I loved the Doctor, I set up a recheck appointment for next week. My only problem was the glasses selection wasn't as broad as the Lenscrafters that I have been to in the past. This review is late... I get eye exams and contacts/glasses through LensCrafters. I was in San Rafael ( I don't live there) and one of my contacts ripped. I called the closest lens crafters and Sara helped me over the phone. I was willing to buy a new pair as I had some at home but need to be able to see NOW! I had my prescription sunglasses fastened to my shirt. They fell to the ground and I accidentally stepped on them. The frame was bent and one of the lenses scratched. I brought them to LensCrafters in Northgate mall. That's when I met Antonio, who was extremely helpful and polite. He took the time to repair my glasses and also buffed the scratches out of the lenses. This store made a life long customer today. 5 Stars for LensCrafters !!!!!! read more
