This was my second visit to Dr. Wong. I was having problems reading up close AND seeing for distance. I didn't know if i needed new glasses or it was a change in my eyes. I was getting concerned. I contacted his front office person, Aspen, and she found an open slot for me. Dr. Wong did his magic in his way - efficiently and humanly. He identified that I needed a new prescription. He also identified I was having a little problem with one implant and also with my eyes. He set me up with an ophthalmologist here in Ptown. Dr Wong is the best optometrist I've ever had. And since I'm 75 I've had a lot of them in San Francisco and Marin before this. Aspen is the epitome of "Petaluma Nice" and now I look forward to seeing a new friend when I come in for a visit. read more

My glasses had lost the nose pads and while I was in the shopping centre of Dr Wong I went in to see them while I was visiting the area from Florida. The young blonde lady in the store was very nice and was very proficient in installing two new nose pads on my glasses and I was out of the store in five minutes. My coworker recommended me to Dr. Wong and I'm so glad she did!!! I agree with all of the other glowing reviews on here too. He took his time and really figured out my new contact lens prescriptions, though it was on the fence of staying the same. He even does a distance test, having you go outside the room to look past the parking lot with a sample set of lenses compared to the old ones. It helped give me that 100% verification that it would be correct! He was not rushed at all and very kind, gentle, and soft-spoken - but also really funny! I felt totally comfortable asking questions. I told him my contacts were a little blurry in the morning and he explained the toric lenses have a line on them meaning that's the bottom anchor - so if I put them in with that aligned, it would take less time to adjust. WOW - no one else ever told me that! My last eye doctor (also local but I won't name names here) rushed me and saw me for maybe 10 minutes (plus time for dilation where I had to sit and wait in the office for nearly an hour while she took other patients!) And when I asked her about Lasik, she just had the receptionist give me a pamphlet, no discussion. Dr. Wong did the dilation but patiently waited for it to work and didn't keep me waiting any longer than necessary. Much appreciated! And he even brought up Lasik as I had marked it on the paperwork as a future possibility and he gave me any pros/cons. They even do pre- and post - op appointments for it in his office! In addition, the receptionist Tanya was really cool, personable, and funny too - and got me in to see him in a reasonable time, both in scheduling and less than a 5 minute wait once paperwork was filled out. PLUS she was taking donations for the Valley Fire animals while I was there too. How kind! She mentioned the VSP discount plan over the phone, gave me specific pricing without me even asking, and never rushed me. I can't recommend this business enough and am almost looking forward to my next exam next year and for my new contact prescription to come in! Great and kind service! read more

Computers and screens abound, I felt my 20/20 vision slipping, and it was time to have it checked out. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous having never had a proper and full eye exam ever in my life. Dr Wong and Tanya could not have made the process more pleasant if they tried. I went to Dr.wong with a complaint of blurriness in my vision. dr.womg took a look and was immediately concerned and told me I need to see a retinologist pronto. I call the reninologist who ended up being booked out a couple weeks. I called dr.wong to let him know I made their next available appointment. He told me he would call me right back. 3 minutes later he called and said he had made me an appointment for the following morning. Apparently I would have lost my vision permanently if I had Wait. Dr.wong legitimately cares for his patients and will go the extra mile for them. I will never see another eye doctor because I don't think there's one out there as good as dr.wong. read more

I just have to tell yelpers how helpful Dr. Gordon Wong's office is, and I've never even been his patient yet. I called today and left a voice message about my particular situation. I needed a new contact prescription appointment, because my current eye doctor closes early/doesn't open weekends and I've recently gotten a new job in Santa Rosa. I also am going to pay out of pocket because I don't like my kaiser vision plan. I explained this all in my long voicemail. So basically, it's challenging to fit any doctors appointments ever. Anyhow, a Tanya or Tonya called me back and left me a long voice message with so many good details. First she mentioned how dr Wong has some evening appointment days but they are generally booked out a month. In the fall they extend them more. She quoted the price per out of pocket appointment and covered all the questions I asked. I had a great experience with Dr Wong. He was very patient, and even allowed me to walk to the doorway to look outside with a test lense to make sure I'm comfortable with the prescription. I have had experiences where I was with an optometrist who double up appointments and rushed through exams, and that was not the case in this office. Dr Wong was very professional, and asked lots of questions to determine the best glasses & contacts for me. It's true, the location is a little odd. Don't let it fool you. It's convenient, and easy to get to. I would have liked to see a more contemporary selection of frames. I'll admit to liking the big nerdy frames, and most were pretty sleek and professional. I have been a patient of Dr. Wong's for about 7 years. He provides a professional and thorough eye exam, handles all insurance types, and if you don't have insurance, will work with you on price for exams, glasses and contact lenses. He explains each step of the exam, and has a friendly, helpful manner. I recently upgraded to bifocal contacts and he gave me 3 different brands on a trial basis, advising that there is a failure rate for bifocals depending on the individual. I tried them for a month and for me the Coopervision was best for me. It is great to buy local and deal with the actual owner of the business, and it's in a convenient location with plenty of parking. I could save a few bucks by ordering lenses online or driving 10 or 20 miles to walmart, but I would rather buy directly from Dr. Wong. His assistant Tanya is friendly, helpful and great about calling you back to answer questions. She helped me get a great deal through VSP earlier this year. I moved to Petaluma three years ago. I work for a company that has excellent VSP coverage, so I get my eyes checked religiously once a year. Unfortunately, I tried another optometrist for the first two years I was in town and, knowing it was time for another exam, I realized I wasn't pleased, so I did a Yelp search and found Gordon Wong, OD. My impression of the optometry field from past experiences is that of greedy people hurrying an appointment along, and sending out bad vibes if you don't purchase all the extras and the most expensive frames. Not so with Dr. Wong's office. Dr. Wong gave me my exam and told me what he was doing, AND WHY, every step of the way. It was a learning experience, quite enlightening indeed! PATIENCE for patients. I have a child with disabilities. Sometimes, it's questionable as to whether my child's speaking the same language we are. Entertaining if you're just hanging around, but if you're trying to figure out whether he can SEE or not, that's another story. Dr. Wong had INCREDIBLE patience with my son, checking, double-checking, TRIPLE-checking to make SURE the prescription he was recommending was what my son needed.
