We stopped in for dinner as we had never been here before and it is close to our home. This experience was a total disaster. The soup tasted like water with little to no flavor. Our steak was over cooked with no flavor. The rice was mushy with no flavor too. When we mentioned this to our waiter he said he would have to check with the manager to see what could be done. They did replace our meals but the replacements were no better. We paid the bill and left still hungry. Very disappointed to have spent close to $100 for horrible food. Could not wait to eat when we got home, only to discover a disgusting mish mosh of chemical tasting "food". Threw out most of it even though I was starving. We were part of a party of eight that dined at Asuka's today. We decided to dine there after church. I was a bit apprehensive since I read the reviews beforehand, but a friend said they liked it. So, we gave it a shot. We all sat at the hibachi table and our orders were taken quickly. My wife and I ordered the steak and shrimp and others with us ordered a variety of foods. We were served a typical Japanese light soup first and after that a nice salad. The soup and salad were very good. Next, our chef arrived and did his little display and cooked up our lunches. Well, my steak was tender and delicious, as well as my shrimp. As a matter of fact, everybody was quite pleased with their choice of food. I certainly have zero complaints. Not bad but if you're familiar with Japanese hibachi restaurants expect to be disappointed. It has at best a passing resemblance to what is basically a standard scripted experience at all Japanese hibachi restaurants. Instead of the cook preparing fried rice on the table with great showmanship, it arrived in a bowl from the kitchen. They do the sliced onion flaming volcano thing but that's about it as far as the entertainment portion. No flashy shrimp show, the tails having been removed prior. They're just cooked and served without fanfare, as were filet mignons and vegetables. No bean sprouts here either, which was fine with me as my grandson doesn't eat them and I'm not particularly in love with them myself, but it was surprising because I've never not gotten them elsewhere and I imagine those who actually like them might feel differently.. I feel bad for the chef for being in the middle of this situation. The waiter messed up our order cuz our family member has a deathly shrimp allergy disease, and the waiter just didn't care nor tell the chef. Luckily when the food came out we spotted that the shrimp was mixed with the other meats. We tell chef and he apologized for it and said sorry as he was not told about the shrimp allergy. We called the waiter over only just for her to make a scene. After the dinner, which was amazing btw even though one family member only had rice, they still charged us for the meal and we also learned that waiters there don't even get tips. Like gurl, no wonder why these waiter don't care about us they don't have to make sure we're ok cuz there not getting tips. I ordered for the first time through a delivery service, speedy fast delivery. Then it went down hill. I started with a crab and avocado roll. I wanted to keep it simple first time ordering. No soy sauce was give, which normally wouldn't be an issue but I just moved and have zero in my pantry. The salad was maybe all of 7 pieces of lettuce. And my teriyaki chicken was .... interesting. So we normally eat at Asuka at least once a week whether it be in restaurant or take out. Service is always fast, and food has been great. It's a nice place to eat and close to home. We loved it! Until last night that is! We went to pick up our takeout order, which was done within 20 minutes. We arrived home, everything we ordered was in the bag including the extra sauce we just love so much. We dive into eating, which was great! And as we begin to get full, we proceed to gather the rest for leftovers tomorrow. As we went to dump the food from the takeout box into our tubberwear, we notice something sticking to the inside of the togo box. And what do we see, it was half of a bug! We immediately were sick to our stomachs. HOW ON EARTH COULD THIS GET IN THERE!! Right underneath all that food we just ate. No telling where the other half ended up. I don't understand the bad reviews. Sometimes there is a wait due to it being a Japanese steakhouse where the food is cooked right in front of you. They like to fill up the table which to me is understandable. I have been numerous times and it is our go to for special occasions. I am always with people I enjoy so the wait doesn't bother me. The food is fabulous and plentiful! The crab Rangoon are to die for with the special sauce! I love the salad with ginger dressing. I do miss the rainbow sherbet they used to give post meal. We did not even know there was a Japanese steakhouse in Spring Hill and when we learned about it, we were a little skeptical. However, we were very pleasantly surprised and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It is actually one of the better Japanese steakhouses we have ever been to. My husband got the fillet mignon and I got the scallops and we shared. The portions were amazing and we were both very full when we left. The chef was entertaining. We also got a to go sushi order for our daughter and she said it was excellent. I do you have three suggestions, which is why I did not give this restaurant five stars. The first one is that there was a third party delivery person at the hostess stand when we arrived and it took a good 15 minutes for him to do whatever he was doing so the hostess could ask about seating us. I certainly understand wanting to participate in these third-party delivery services but if a restaurant does that, I think they should have a separate person who takes care of that person and those orders, not the hostess who is seating people who are eating inside the restaurant. The second suggestion is that they put steak and scallops on the menu as an option. And the third suggestion is that they seat one or two fewer people at the tables. It was very, very crowded. Having said all of that, the food and service were excellent and therefore, I am giving it four stars. We will definitely be back. read more

I love Teppan Grills and I love Sushi... I don't LOVE Asuka, but it's good if you don't feel like driving to a better Teppan Grill in Franklin. I've been to their bar, had their sushi, dined with a huge group at a hibachi table, tried their happy hour and gone with just my husband... each visit was OK. Their wine/sake list isn't great, their sushi is really not great, their hibachi dinner soup is seriously dreadful and their "show" is generally dull (apart from one chef who was very entertaining). The quality of their hibachi food (soup being the exception) is average and if you have a coupon, their prices aren't too high. Overall, I'm not an Asuka fan... the service isn't great, the food is mediocre, it's on the high side without a coupon, but it is a relatively fun time with a group that doesn't want to drive outside of Spring Hill. I personally would rather drive to Shogun or Omikoshi in Cool Springs. read more

Well the food is not terrible. However when I went to pay for my and my sister's meal the young lady came back and told me that the cards I provided did not work. Okay, they were Visa gift cards, so I took them back, logged into the account and saw that they were active and ready to go. Each gift card was for $25 the bill $52.52. The same young lady came back I gave her the gift cards again along with my credit card. My sister and I waited while all three of my cards traveled around the restaurant for 15 minutes. Finally a young man came with my cards and asked how I would like the bill split. I showed him that my gift cards were both for $25 and that the credit card would be for the $2.52 plus the tip. I asked to speak to the manager because of how long my cards were out of my sight along with how long it had been. After another 5 minutes he brought back my receipts to sign and saw that each card had been charged at $18.95, $16.95, and $11.95. I told him I needed to speak to the manager and he said it would be awhile because of how busy they were. I respectfully let him know that I needed to speak with the manager right then. When the manager came over I explained what had happened and asked her to fix the transaction. Hannah acted like they had not done anything wrong when I showed her the varying amounts on the receipts for the transaction and asked about my card being gone for so long. She said that she would void everything and re-run the transaction. Again no apology for my card being passed off or acknowledgment that the young man had ran the cards incorrectly. So I guess I will be turning off my card and canceling it. read more

My test of a sushi place is octopus. Asuka had the best octopus I've had in Spring Hill. But that's like being the world's tallest midget, it's still not great. I got a bento box as well and the teriyaki shrimp was fine. You don't get miso with it though, you get whatever they call "chicken stock with really thin mushroom slices". The California roll didn't have cucumber in it, weird. The edamame was cooked correctly. My server was nice. The previous reviewer got it perfectly. We just went without hibachi altogether for a long time until we found a great replacement in Murfreesboro. There are much better sushi options in Spring Hill if we are in that area. Sushi we always get the fire crunch roll and it's always really good. They don't have super fancy top notch sushi but this is hibachi place, if your wanting just sushi go to Koi. (I'm updating this with this little sentence in hope it gets it off the filter. You should know this before you eat here) Asuka's has changed ownership recently, and it shows. Poorly, I'm afraid. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Spring Hill. Really good sushi, and a decent selection of actual Japanese food, when you're not ordering from the hibachi. I should say, the hibachi is pretty good. Not the best or most entertaining I've sat through, but still very tasty. Hibachi aside, the Sushi is really good. And they have a really good lunch special. That at least, hasn't changed. The special sushi rolls though, are much more hit and miss. I've had some really good ones, and really dull ones. The biggest change is the actual entrees (and maybe the hibachi. I haven't eaten it since the deterioration in food quality). My girlfriend, being as adventurous as she is, always orders the Chicken Teriyaki. The thing is, this staple dish of stereotypical asian cuisine has been completely different the last 3 times we've been there, each time being worse and worse, with less chicken and inferior taste. The last time it was nothing but chicken and a ton of mushrooms. The last time we were there, I ordered a Tonkatsu Don. It couldn't have turned out worse. I've had the donburi there before, and they used to be delicious! Colorful, with lots of vegetables, and a well cooked pork cutlet and omelette that made the whole thing juicy and tasty. The last time I ate there, it was just a bowl of white rice, with an overcooked pork cutlet on it, and a single, overcoooked egg on it. It was absolutely terrible. I mean, disgusting. I scared our poor waitress to death when I asked to speak to the manager. She said he wasn't there. We haven't bothered returning since. The lunch special sushi isn't worth supporting that trash. Hibachi is one of my husband's favorites, so we thought we would try this since it was close to home. Disappointing is the best way to describe it. The soup was blah tasting and had pasta shells (?) in the bottom. The salad dressing was ok,but not as gingery as it could have been. I had steak and shrimp, hubby had filet and chicken. (Side note-this is the first hibachi we have ever encountered that comes with steamed rice and you have to pay extra for fried rice.) Entrees and fried rice were good enough, but not outstanding. Now to the service. Our waiter talked like a wanna be surfer dude, and seemed to have none too firm a grasp on what his job entails. He disappeared for long periods of time. We ordered a fried dumpling appetizer which never came (not on the bill either-pretty sure he never put in the order.) Two other parties at our table ordered sushi, one as an app, one as her meal. The appetizer came out after the party had almost finished dinner, and the poor lady who had ordered sushi as an entree never got it. When this was brought to surfer dude's attention, he acted like there was nothing he could do about it, the sushi bar was backed up. "I don't know what happened" is the most he can offer.
