For the past two orders, our food has either been too spicy or relatively flavorless. In addition, the food has been fairly greasy as well, to the point that it can only be salvaged if it's re-cooked into something more substantial. We hadn't been here in a while as the food is good, but this time the food was excellent!! Fresh, not greasy, very flavorful! My husband had Kung Pow Beef, tender meat with just a perfect amount of spice! I had Shrimp Egg Foo Young which was perfectly cooked with large shrimp, not rubbery and delicious sauce. The fried rice is terrible its literally cheap rice & small uncooked shrimp that's it. If you want poor quality Chinese go there.

Reminds me of the Chinese restaurant in my hometown. It closed as soon as another one opened because the new one was way better. The redeeming quality was absolutely the egg roll. It was super crispy and had a great flavor. The General Tso's sauce had good flavor, but the chicken itself isn't good. The breading tastes like rancid oil. And, sadly, the white rice was really terrible. Not sure how you mess up steamed rice, but they found a way. All in all, unless you just really need a Chinese food fix and enjoy the pretty low price, I would recommend driving a little farther for better Asian cuisine. Edit: Also, to echo a previous review, the sauce leaked out the side of the box pretty bad and got everywhere. read more

I came here a few times before and the shrimp egg foo young was excellent. The owner is an extremely rude person. I think the only reason it is still in business is that the food WAS so great. I had such a taste for shrimp egg foo young today. I ordered it on line...all was good, of course he was his same rude, curt self. I had a couple of pennies change due back. I had to ask for it....just the principal. But the saddest part was the quality of the food. The sauce was very watery. The food was so salty and very overcooked. I could barely eat it. The shrimps were half the size that they used to be. I ate it but I will need a gallon of water to off set the pound of salt in the food. So sad, I guess I will have to start looking for a new Chinese restaurant...hopefully with good food and cheerful service. read more

The food isn't bad, but I guess different cooks there use different recipes or something. I got the hot and spicy chicken, and it had mushrooms in it. I hate mushrooms, so next time I went, I told them "no mushrooms" to which they said "that doesn't come with mushrooms". Was disappointed with my Szechuan shrimp. There was no sauce, only lots and lots of oil, making it very greasy. It was spicy (a good thing) but extremely oily (a bad thing). No touch of sweetness whatsoever (a bad thing). Now, I *am* familiar with and love the Szechuan style of Chinese food, so I know that oil and heat/spicyness are 2 key components of this type of Chinese cuisine in particular. There are lots of good Szechuan dishes that are enhanced by spicy oil. So... I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe that that's where they were trying to go with this.... *However* at the same time, every other times I've had this same Szechuan dish (your standard Szechuan chicken/shrimp/etc) and have enjoyed it at other restaurants, including from Chinese take-out restaurants, it has always been in an actual *sauce*, and not just oil, and has always been a good and balanced combination of tastes - sweet, salty, and spicy. Furthermore, it was mostly broccoli - don't get me wrong, I love broccoli, but there were hardly any other vegetables in it and not too much shrimp (see pic - also layer underneath mostly broccoli). So the whole time I was eating this I was pretty much just eating broccoli in oil. :-( We also got the dumplings (average - not as much meat inside as other places), sweet and sour chicken (average), and chicken chow mein (average). After coming here, I'll make sure to go to the other Chinese take-out place in Columbia from now on. We live an hour west of Franklin so aside from going there, picking a favorite Chinese in the region of Columbia/Dickson/Fairview after visiting each of them several times now I'd have to say I'd have to pick Jade Wok in Fairview. I don't know if the owners of New China will read this review but I hope it is helpful/constructive for making their food better. :-) read more

Sometimes, the only thing that will do is Chinese takeout, and I was having one of those nights while house-sitting near Columbia. I was thrilled to find a place with great reviews that actually DELIVERED, saving me the hassle of putting on real pants. I ordered about 7:20 with the online ordering system, and had my food about 1/2 an hour later. The only critique I have is that while they send an email with your order confirmation, there's no indication of how long delivery will take, but if it was that fast on the Sunday of a holiday weekend, I'd say to just have faith that your food will show up. Ordered Homestyle Tofu, Chicken Lo Mein, Spring Rolls, and Egg Drop Soup, spent just shy $25 after delivery fee. (Don't forget to tip your driver!) Easily enough food for a meal, leftovers, and maybe an extra snack. The Homestyle Tofu was really great and fresh, mixed about half with tofu and broccoli, and then some baby corn and the usual. Chicken Lo Mein had HUGE chunks of chicken, and had a nice sweet taste that I look for in lo mein. Then Spring rolls are among the best I've ever had, almost the size of an egg roll, and had great ginger taste, and came with a nice big cup of sauce. The only thing I was slightly disappointed in was the Egg Drop Soup, which was too salty for my taste, but was chock full of egg and warm and comforting. I'd definitely order again/visit the restaurant in person. read more

Ordered from here the other night: General Tso's Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Veggie Lo Mein, and crab rangoons. I don't know if it's because it was later when we ordered it (8ish Wednesday night) but the chicken was overdone- it was all mostly breading and if you got a tiny bit of actually chicken it was super tough. Mongolian Beef was really good but it had about 4 times more onion than actual beef. Crab Rangoons were lacking filling to. Lo Mein was pretty tasty. As far as flavors went it all tasted wonderful but the meal really lacked actual meat. I would be more than happy paying $3-$4 more dollars an item to actually have meat in there. I will give them another chance but until then I'm going to keep it at 3 stars. read more

This is my favorite Chinese place ever. The place is small, but they don't seem to get a lot of dine-in business so we have never had a problem with getting a table when we want to dine in. Delivery is super-fast, sometimes less than half an hour (I live about 5 minutes away). Every time I have to get the hot and sour soup. It's my personal panacea; no matter what's wrong from physical to spiritual ailments, it helps me feel better. The Singapore mei fun, roast pork lo mein, and extra spicy general chicken are all favorites. The steamed dumplings are also delicious and the sausage is clearly made in-house, they are nice and oniony and they've never tasted the same anywhere else! read more

I have ordered from here 3x now and have had a great experience each and every time. I am not one that makes a lot of changes in my ordering. So normally I get the hot and sour soup which they have 4 levels of hot (never seen this before) I also get the house fried rice and usually get some sweet and sour something (depends on my mood). It is always good and they have online ordering which is super convenient. They also deliver to the house which is also very convenient. We also had a chicken and broccoli combo, fried dumplings, and egg drop soup. We were very pleased with all of it and their prices are great! It looked like white rice with soy sauce added for that brown color. The egg roll was ok. The portions were quite small for the amount charged for a meal. It was average strip mall Chinese food. Maybe I had higher expectations due to all the 5-star reviews? Either way, we were certainly not impressed. The lo mein was overcooked and soggy. The general tso's chicken was fine, but for requesting "medium hot" it barely left a tingle on the tongue. The egg rolls were probably better than average though. read more

Good food, excellent service, very clean and wonderful people. Best Chinese takeout in the general area. The service is prompt, courteous and the food is always good and hot. We live just 8 minutes away and order on the phone. The food is almost always ready when we arrive. Nothing fancy or unusual on the menu. It's typical small Chinese restaurant fare at reasonable prices. Just done well. I really like the way they cook vegetables. The broccoli is excellent, I love the "Buddhist delight" a mix of stir fried vegetables. Love the Kung Pao chicken. The dumplings and egg rolls are good. I have never once gotten a bad meal from this place. It is family owned, but I'd say that makes it even better. I would highly recommend the General Tso's Chicken (combo or not) and the spring rolls. The only negative to New China is if you plan on doing a delivery order, you have a minimum of, I believe, $12 dollars you MUST spend. Otherwise it's nice place to eat. read more

I went to get some Chinese food last night, and so I went to new China you know I've gone there for years the food was much better years ago I don't know what's going on there I like the family they seem pleasant enough to me I'd like to support local businesses but this particular one they need to do something about the cooking lately I got cashew chicken and it should've been called cashew bamboo shoots and all the add-ons anymore used to be able to get the rice swapped out for chow mein both of those seem very easy to make and not too expensive but they want a dollar per swap if you don't get an eggroll but you want soup it's another dollar sorry but I'm just not buying it so my thought process Is can get better food elsewhere so that's where I'm probably going to go it's a little further to drive too but it'll be worth the money sorry if for any reason the owners of this restaurant read this and before you go out of business you might want to change your habits back to caring about your food and preparing it like you used to I don't know what you've done to your fried rice but it's awful you put too much soy sauce in it because it's really dark fried rice isn't really supposed to look that or taste like that way too salty I hate to be beating up on you but your food was much better years back so today I'm giving you a really low review because of that read more

We were excited to find a place that delivered and after reading reviews on yelp the family thought it was worth a shot. The appetizers were great. Dumplings, chicken wings and crab Rangoon were all delicious. Their French fries were probably the best of all (weird, I know,) and we kept stealing them from our child's plate. The actual meals themselves were not good. I made a couple of dietary requests that were completely ignored so heads up to anyone with allergies. Both the Kung Pao chicken & Happy Family had zero flavor and it was the usual, run of the mill, freezer frozen, diced vegetable, lackluster, tasteless Chinese. We were really disappointed. Don't know if we will be back unless we want fries and dumplings for dinner. read more
