This place is one of go to's in Columbia! I love that we can get hibachi, sushi, or Chinese or a mix! Every time we have been the food comes out fresh and fairly quickly! Egg drop and hot and sour soups are good, but they don't have crunchies/wonton strips to put on top (which is the best part IMO). Apps: egg rolls, gyoza, and crab Rangoons. All were as to be expected flavor wise, nothing out of this world but all very fresh, crispy, and come out piping hot! For entrees we ordered house lo mein and some sushi rolls to share! I can't remember all of the sushi rolls we got but everything was great. I have had expensive sushi, gas station sushi, and small town sushi. It's a quaint little seating area with some booths on the back wall, a nice sushi bar, and several tables. It's kind of unsuspecting being next to Kroger. I feel like service is hit or miss but not enough to not go there!! Went to Fujiyama twice- and both times i ordered various items and it was just hit or miss. If you want authentic Japanese food, this place is probably not the best choice. The biggest disappointment was the Udon. It did not have a taste. Tasted like nothing so we had to pour soy sauce in it- that's how bad it was.also it had broccolis and cucumbers (could be zucchini) which Japanese would never put in their Udon. Very weird. I don't know where they got that idea from. Hard to understand. That dish costs $11.95 which is not worthwhile. Save your money and order something else please. Their hot tea was more like hot water, but then refill tasted much better, then the last refill was lukewarm. Not consistent at all. The good was soft shell crab and sashimi. They were tasty. But they put white tuna on a slice of orange and I wish they never had done that. Dragon roll was yummy. The service- the server was attentive, not overly friendly but prompt. It took the servers FOREVER to get to us. When I asked about doing the bento box for dinner they said no they only do that for lunch... you're a Japanese restaurant. Bento boxes are a staple. They should be on the menu all the time. Its in a nice spot in Columbia, has a good interior ambiance. The server was kind and cleaned up our dishes quickly as we finished each dish. He was prompt and attentive although the food took a very long time to arrive. The rice and yum yum sauce were bland but the veggies tasted fresh and were well cut and the steak was cooked perfectly. The sushi rolls were subpar and miso was okay. Overall it was a good experience with okay food and okay service. If i were hungry and in Columbia craving Japanese again i would eat there again. I never write reviews but this bad experience warranted one. It took 30 minutes to get our menus and an hour and some change to finally get our food. In their defense they seemed under staffed and busy, but we got no updates on the wait time or if we needed any refills. Also the food was very subpar. My local Publix has better sushi than this. Our sushi rolls were unrolling and my shrimp tempura was soggy. Won't be surprised if I get food poisoning from this. Will never go here again. read more

So, pretty bad service and experience all around. We weren't greeted when we came in and instead were ignored along with other folks coming to dine. Stood at the entrance for 20min before someone yelled out "who's next?" No sign to direct anyone to either seat themselves or to wait to be seated. The food was ok but expensive. Finally we went up to the checkout register without our receipt just to stand there and be ignored again as the person took three calls for to go orders without even looking at me. The atmosphere is romantic and relaxing... with traditional Japanese music to keep it authentic. The customer service has been exceptional each time that I have visited. The Food... WOW! Tempura, Hibachi Grill, Teriyaki, and the Sushi... All have been perfectly created and the presentation is beautiful. So many things are home made here... which makes it taste SO much better. This restaurant is on a much higher level but without the extreme cost... it's very affordable and perfect for a special night. I am truly impressed! P.S. It wasn't great, but I have had worse. I came here hoping that Fujiyama was as good as the reviews said it was; I was very dissatisfied. The salad was good. Crisp, fresh lettuce with a nice ginger dressing. The miso soup tasted wonderful, however the lack of seaweed and tofu was disappointing. The chicken, unfortunately, did not live up to its reputation. It was very dry and also very chewy. The sauce didn't taste like it has been cooked into the chicken; it was more like they had thrown it in last minute. It didn't help that the rice tasted dry. I've honestly had better hibachi at a mall food court. Fortunately, service was decent. The lady who served me was kind and prompt. She kept my glass full of Coke and came to check on me frequently. Sat in restaurant. Ordered hibachi ny strip with fried rice and veggies. The yumyum sauce was severely runny and bland. The server never came back to fill up drinks, i had to walk to the register to ask for more. I also ordered the udon beef soup, it is mostly good but difenitley not worth what they charge, it is just stew meat. Also got the octopus and for $10 i got 4 pieces without the sauce that was suppose to come with it. I never got to ask for the sauce because the server never came back.
