Gluten-free cheese ravioli (great portion size for me)
Amanda A.

We discovered this unassuming Italian restaurant on the way to an event last night. My teen and friend zeroed in on it noting there were gluten-free options on their website. I was pleasantly surprised to find out at the restaurant that they have a variety of gluten-free pastas including ravioli! I had this with a side salad and my teen had garlic knots (they smelled wonderful and came with a gravy boat of red sauce) and a Mona Lisa pizza with fresh mozzarella. Ashlin the server was attentive and helpful. We will definitely return.

Great food - slow service! I like the fact that they still include a free salad and garlic knots with your dinner. It did take over 20 minutes for us to receive our salads after we ordered. Just like most restaurants the portion sizes have decreased. The eggplant rollatini used to have 3 eggplant rolls - now you only get 2 - still plenty to eat. The Penne Santa Lucia was very flavorful. Spotty service dampened our dinner!

Italian sub

Wow!!! It has been years since I have been in Assaggios. Not cause I haven't wanted to but because I forget about it at times. I am sure happy I went back today for a great Italian sub. One of the best I've had. Good bread makes a sub and their bread is excellent. Crusty on the outside and not too thick where all you feel like you're eating is bread. Only thing I would have liked is a little more veggies but overall very delicious. Great service, very attentive and the restaurant was clean and well put together. I'll certainly be back to try other dishes. Well done!

Meatball Parmigiana Hot Sub

Went in to see what a Bistro and Market would be. Turns out it is a Italian restaurant with a bar (does have packages of desserts to go) I got the hot meatball sub and the Italian to go. The meatballs on the sub had great flavor not much cheese and sauce. The Italian sub was ok too much dressing couldn't taste the meat.

This is my $16 meatball sub with three meatballs sliced in half with little sauce and cheese.

They need to up their game on their food. What a disappointing experience, wanting a good meatball sub and disappointed. Last time I will come here.

Garlic Knots

Easily one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Raleigh. I've been here around 4 or 5 times and have never had a bad experience. The servers are always super nice and attentive. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming, and rustic vibe to it. And the food is always amazing. Their classic pastas are probably some of the best dishes, but you definitely can't go wrong ordering anything else on the menu. Highly recommend trying the garlic knots here.

My boyfriend and I order from here at least once every two weeks. The last three times, there has been quality issues with our order. After getting served this sloppy mess pictured below, we can no longer support this business. I tried to push through and eat a slice but when I picked it up, all the toppings slid off the pizza. $30 and they gave us pizza soup. My boyfriend showed them it before he left the store and the person at the front said it was fine. We called and asked for a refund from the manager since it's not edible.

Assaggio's still reigns as my favorite pizza restaurant on this side of Raleigh. As a New Yorker, I'm considered a pizza snob. Assaggio's never disappoints. They also sell delicious Italian bakery items here. The garlic knots, tuxedo cake and pepperoni pie are my favorite menu items. Make this your first stop for pizza in the area. There is ample indoor dining space and they prepare your slices fresh.

A generous and delightful glass of Riesling.
Julianne S.

Our family was in town for a soccer tournament, and after the first game, our son asked for pizza. I found Assaggio's after doing a quick search on Yelp, and we were all very happy with my selection. I started off with a wonderful glass of Riesling, which was a generous pour. Then, for a starter, we shared the Bruschetta, which had a nice mix of flavors. For our entrees, my son ordered a pepperoni pizza, my husband had the veal parmesan with penne pasta, while I enjoyed the lobster ravioli. It took a while for me to make a decision, though, because there were so many yummy choices on the menu. I was quite happy, though, with my selection. The ravioli is served with a thick and tasty tomato cream sauce. Each bite was a treat! The garlic knots also deserve a shout-out. They were so quite delicious and a really nice change from traditional garlic bread. Then there's the large selection of desserts, which greet you as you walk in the door. We were too full to have anyone after our meal, but we couldn't resist taking something back to the hotel to enjoy later. I highly recommended you give Assaggio's a try the next time you're in the neighborhood. The friendly staff is eager to serve you.

Picatta dishes were HUGE disappointment. Stick with sphagetti, meatballs, pizza, and YUMMY desserts. Waiter was delightful.

If you can't find parking on Person street I recommended parking on a side street and walking. Walking in the pizza shop has a cool, laid back, neighborhood vibe. To be seated you'll want to ask for an open table from the staff. Once seated we ordered a pitcher of Narragansett Pilsner and a small Caesar Salad (housemade dressing, lemon garlic breadcrumb, pecorino). The pils was excellent and wanted to order a little extra beer since it was the weekend. The Caesar was excellent and the portion was plenty of food for two people. For pizza we ordered a pizza with half sausage and half pepperoni. The pizza was huge and we definitely had to take 3/4s of it to go. The pizza itself was good and was a little heavier than I was expecting. If you are in the person street area and looking for pizza, I definitely would check out the Oakwood Pizza box.

For drinks I ordered the Long Island Iced tea (vodka, rum, tequila, gin, triple sec, sour mix, and a splash of cola) and my partner ordered the Appletini (vodka, sour apple pucker, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup). Both drinks were excellent and were nice and smooth. For our entree we split the Chicken Parmigiana with spaghetti. We also ordered a side of spaghetti and it was the perfect amount of food for two people. The chicken parm was seasoned perfectly and may be one of the best I've ever tried. Overall this was a great experience and I look forward to our next trip to Anthony's La Piazza Prime. I'll have to try the Lobster Ravioli on this next trip with the vodka sauce.

We ended up sitting up at the bar and ordered a couple drinks to start. I ordered a pint of the Utica Club Lager which was excellent and very easy to drink. My partner ordered a glass of the Spellbound Pinot Noir which also was great and had a nice finish. For food we ordered the Bambino pizza (spicy honey marinara, mozzarella and provolone blend, fresh mozzarella, all beef meatballs, pesto, garlic oil) which was excellent. They had a little tap on the patio. So we hopped in line. My friend went inside to see if we could get beer faster. You know divide and conquer. She won, however the line outside was still long so we stayed in line so we could get another. Sure enough by the time we reached the front of the line we were out. So we grabbed a couple more put them on the open tab from inside and walked around. We came back after walking around and decided after seeing everyone walking around with pizza boxes and Togo bags that we would eat here. We knew from being there earlier that they had outside first come seating seat yourself, but it was full so we went inside, turns out that is also first come first serve seat yourself. There was a table getting up as we walked in so we sat down and they were quick to come clean it. The waitress came and too our drink order and we saw her 1 more time after that. Even though they have a scan menu on the table for you to place your order I think they should still check on you. She came at the end to see if we needed her to close out our tab at the bar, we had already taken care of that. We could have used her during our meal. The wedge Cesar was ok, the lettuce was nice and crisp. The Cesar was good. I always get my dressing on the side sometimes when you get a salad it can be overdressed and I don't like that so I don't take chances. The Chicken schnitzel was ok not outstanding. It could use some seasoning. The salad "on top" of it was good. The dressing was really good. Now this roasted broccoli was the star of the table. It was so yumm. I only wish the dressing was on the side. It was so much of it in the top I had to rub some off. Otherwise it was so good. We would have ordered more but having to use the San to order and pay each time I didn't like that so we just ate that and moved on. Maybe we will try the pizza next time.
