I don't normally post reviews but in this case, I thought I needed to share my experience with Gentle Dental - Valley River and Drs (?) Vu and Repelle. It was quite possibly the worst health care experience I have ever had in my life. Quick overview - I drove an hour from Florence on Friday morning to have someone look at a tooth that was causing me quite a bit of pain. They did see my almost right away (which was great) the check in process was fairly fast but completely devoid of compassion or empathy (sign this, initial these, agree to this, have a seat). After a few xrays, the young Dr. Repelle came in and told me that the lowest cost option is just to pull the tooth. Ok, cool, thanks for the super quick diagnosis. Feeling a bit pressured to make an uninformed decision I said that I'd like to think it over first and perhaps come back another time for a more comprehensive exam (the tooth still hurt but Dr. Repelle did not inspire much confidence in me regarding her concern for my overall oral health). The vibe I got from her was that I was a quick $300 or so for a few minutes work. I agreed to make an appointment for the following Monday to have a full comprehensive oral exam and then proceed with any actions after looking at the full picture. Again, after driving an hour from Florence on Monday morning for an 8am appointment with Dr Vu, I arrived and was greeted once more with the same cold, fast, slightly rude receptionist. After another round of paperwork, I was shown back to chair and waited for Dr. Vu. After just a few minutes (they are VERY fast here....rushing in, then out very quickly) he came in and said (without even looking into my mouth) "I agree with Dr. Repelle, the tooth should be pulled." I said, "Oh ok, I understand that but I'm here for you to look at my entire mouth and possibly discuss a plan of attack for correcting the issues (I know I need a bridge and another crown in additon to the tooth that I came in for). Afterall, that was why I went back on Monday, for an Office Described "Comprehensive Exam". He then said "oh no, I can't look at your entire mouth, just the one tooth that needs to be pulled. If you want us to look at everything else you will need to make another appointment with Dr. Repelle." I had a hard time believing that is what he actually said.......In essence, telling me that I have to make another appointment (and I assume another billing/revenue generating event for the office) to look at the other side of my mouth. What is a "comprehensive exam" if it doesn't include looking at all the teeth? Unbelievable. In any event, I left the Dr's office with absolutely nothing done. However, I'm sure insurance was billed for both visits. Not quite a scam, but darn close. I'm sure they must do acceptable work on occasion, however, in my specific case, my experience was so bad that I feel the need to warn others to stay away, if it all possible. It's just a fact of life that somebody has to be the worst dentist in the area and in my opinion, Gentle Dental - Valley River, Drs Rapelle and Vu take that prize. read more

The only reason I changed to Aspen was because my work changed my insurance and Quest was no longer in network. I should have read reviews. Here's my experience. I have fairly health teeth, I brush twice a day with sonicare and I floss 3 times a day. I have to have cleanings every 4 months always have because of how my mouth bacteria makes a lot of tartar and to care for my gums. They said "oh, you need to be on a periodontal plan" I figured they knew what I had in the past but that's not how it went. They told me I had to buy a different toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss. They scared me into a cancer check even though I'm not at risk (30 bucks out of pocket cause insurance doesn't cover). I was there over an hour and they came on to me about lazer, antibiotics, a bunch of fancy machines. After it was all said and done they said my treatment would be 1500.00 out of pocket. I calmly asked for a form to sign to have my records transferred to another dentist (still looking) and fired them on the spot. Please beware of these money grubbing scam artists. read more

All my college son needed was a cleaning. After scheduling an appointment for a cleaning, the office called him - only asking about insurance. Makes sense but really they just wanted to make sure they could try to upsell him and get more money. When he showed for the appointment, he was there 1-1/2 hours, got x-rays (OK), a 3 minute "consultation" jabbing his gums, lots of waiting around, a sales pitch that included a new electric toothbrush and a power flosser (!!) and scheduling for 4 more appointments. I've never written a yelp review before, but after getting a second opinion at a different dentist, I felt I had to share. I want to start with saying that I'm an avid dental patient and have pretty religiously gone 2x/year since I've had teeth. I went to Aspen with some hesitation already, due to the size of the organization as I typically go to small offices, but I've been traveling for work and needed a cleaning away from home. I knew I was going to have the "new patient check up" and just have them assess me before they could tell me what kind of cleaning I needed. I was whisked off to get my x-rays hurriedly completed by the dental tech/assistant, then met someone else who was going to be completing the exam before I met the dentist. I thought something wasn't right when she started scoring my gums to check for disease and I was consistently hearing numbers higher than I had ever before. Typically I'm mostly 2's with an occasional 3 thrown in there, but here they were scoring all my gums/teeth at 3's and 4's. Considering I had been to the dentist recently and I floss/brush daily, it seemed strange my gums could deteriorate quickly. The dentist comes in next, checks me out and proceeds to tell me I have 5 cavities that need filling. Again, because I'm used to the dentist and the process, typically if there are small cavities, my dentist takes a conservative approach and notes them for next time, then sometimes filling them, other times it's still not necessary. I questioned the dentist about the necessity of filling all of them, and she insisted it needed to be done. So, 5 cavities and then due the moderate periodontal disease they claimed I had, they recommended a periodontal cleaning (or deep cleaning). I go to the next person to talk about my treatment plan that would end up costing close to $4000! Ridiculous. I asked if I could come back in just for a basic cleaning and they reported they weren't allowed to do anything less or else it would be neglect. I just went to another new dentist today (small office, privately owned), told them of my suspicion, they provided a basic cleaning (it's all I needed), told me I have perfectly healthy gums, and I will be going to back for ONE filling (not 5) in the next few weeks. So if you typically have healthy teeth and gums and they try and tell you need a deep cleaning for thousands of dollars, run away and find another dentist for a second opinion, because this seemed like a scam to me. Side note, I tried to leave this review on the Aspen Dental website, but it only seems to let you say you were pleased with the services, but then there's an error when I tried to write about my poor experience. read more

First impression, super nice and professional. I loved the woman that did my X-rays. She was very kind, warned me that some positions may be uncomfortable, and said that if I need to take it out for a break I'm more than welcome to. She was amazing and I wish I remembered her name. After X-rays, I was taken to one of the stations for their exams or whatever. I waited for about 15 minutes before someone came in to see me, which wasn't too bad, but the lady didn't really talk to me, just about me to her assistant. When she finally talked to me, she said I have gingivitis and would need a session to take care of it, Invisalign(which didn't make sense to me), an electric toothbrush, and all wisdom teeth removed. When they were finished looking to my teeth and gums, I was sent to the front desk where a lady was talking to me about their care card to cover my expenses. Didn't make sense cause they said they accept OHP when I called for the appointment in the first place. I was informed they don't(a little late in the game to mention that).Nevertheless, I set it up so I could afford the visits when they came up. I get a notification the next day that I have almost $3,000 in debt. I was shocked cause I haven't bought anything that costs that much with a credit card or anything. Come to find out, they had charged me for services I DID NOT HAVE DONE YET! Who does that? Why do that? Do you pay for an oil change, a house cleaning, or a steak before you get it? No. Of course I freaked out. I called Aspen and made them refund the charges, and I called the place they set up the care card with and closed the account. I've never been the "Karen" type, I hate confrontation, don't want to cause problems, but that seriously upset me. I wanted to take care of my health, and all I got was screwed up credit, a disdain for dental offices, and anxiety that another place might do this to me again. I attempted to schedule a teeth cleaning after my consultation but everyone in this office failed to schedule a simple teeth cleaning because I was forced to do periodontal treatments first. I refused this treatment and suggestion because it was unnecessary. I got a second/third & fourth opinion from another dentists in the area and it turns out, the diagnosis at Aspen was bullshit, I do NOT need periodontal treatments and you guys failed me. I was trying to keep up on my teeth health and you did everything in your power not to make it happen. At no time during any of my interaction was I assured that my teeth health would be addressed and taken seriously. I went to the office in hyannis. I had a tooth break prior to traveling out of town. They did a full exam and perio exam, along with filing the tooth down. I called to schedule a follow up visit to fill a couple of cavities. I have two types of dental insurance and decided to use the better insurance for the cleanings and perio. When i called to schedule the appointment i was told that the cavities could not be filled until i had all four quadrants of my mouth scaled. I pulled my charts and left. I spoke with a dentist who said "that is bullshit" and a attempt to extort money from patients. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They refused to fix what they had done, so I had to survive by pushing food against my front teeth with my tongue. I originally went into Aspen Dental to have dentures made and they went through the process and made me a pair of dentures that did not fit and after a while they said you're right we need to make another set so they made a second set which also did not work right. They ground them down several times and basically said I should use glue to hold them in. So I ground them down myself so they wouldn't give me any more pain which I still have a little and they do not fit I cannot eat with them I cannot talk with them so I and very dissatisfied and would like a refund. I am now searching out a very reputable denturist who has experience in making dentures. I do not recommend this company they are inexperienced and basically just wants your money. read more

My Fiancé recently had an appointment at Aspen Dental. After a 3 hour long first appointment (x rays), he had to wait an hour and a half between the time the dentist stepped out and then a new one came in due to a "dental emergency". They also tried telling my fiancé about having periodontal disease, which if you look at the google reviews they try to tell everyone. They told him he would need a 2,000$ treatment plan. He told them he would look into some insurance options and let them know. They decided to open a line of credit for him (after he told them he was going to be coming back with insurance) WITHOUT A SINGLE TREATMENT. After seeing many negative reviews, I decided he should get a second opinion. Turns out this "scare tactic" aspen uses quite often to push lines of credit on people! Do not go here. read more

Dr.G and her team were able to get me and an taken care of during the Covid-19 outbreak when everywhere else turned me away, anyone who's had dental pain knows it's the absolute worst and I was really impressed with them being able to get me established and on the schedule for a root canal amidst the pandemic, 10/10 would recommend them! read more

My wife went here for the first time for a routine catch up and cleaning because they advertised "extra savings potentials" When she got done with her appointment they told her she had gum disease and 5 cavities, worked up a quote for how much all that would cost and even with our insurance it was over 1000$ and on top of all that they immediately pushed a 130$ toothbrush they wanted us to buy from them. It was all very pushy so I was suspicious, we took her to my dentist for a 2nd opinion, she had no gum disease and one small cavity and most of it was covered by insurance. It's a very predatory business praying on people by exploiting fears and creating urgency where none is to be had. Felt very reminiscent of a shady used car dealership. Mind you there was NO BILL NOTICE by MAIL, phone, email from a FREE VISIT from 2019 till I got the credit score alert today. There was NO TREATMENT PERFORMED just the initial FREE EXAM! I just read the post of a girl having NO CAVITIES and they wanted to bill her to fix one. This is how UNETHICAL this ASPEN DENTAL IS. I have formally filed a complaint with the BBB. My roommate has been going there for at least a year to fix her myriad dental issues. They always make her wait forever. Her dental insurance only covers her through Aspen so she is stuck going there. Yesterday they treated us both horribly. She came in to have 4 teeth pulled and was understandably very nervous. We came in at 8:40am for her 9:00 appointment as they requested. We were told it would be an hour long appointment. We were taken back at about 9:15. We proceeded to wait about 15 minutes for the dentist. The dentist came in and gave my roommate shots to numb her mouth. We were told they were going to give her time to get numb. We waited at least half an hour and I went to ask when the dentist would be back. I spoke to the financial counselor I believe and he was very rude. He said that in the dental field things come up and demanded to know what I would do. He told me the wait would be another 10 minutes. A good 20 minutes later I asked a dental assistant where the dentist was. I mentioned to her that I yelp. She came back a few minutes later with the dentist. Maybe I am ignorant and I don't know what constitutes a dental emergency. I'm not sure why my roommate's situation was given such a low priority. All I know is that we showed up on time and were treated badly. If she had any other options we would have walked out. read more

I have recently been to this location for two separate visits now in the past 6 weeks. Once for an exam and the other for a cleaning. I was going to have these folks remove my upper wisdom teeth, but I'm looking around for other options now... $330 a tooth sounds a bit steep for a removal. That aside... the staff here have been amazing! I especially dig the super skinny version of carrot top. That guy made bite wings fun. The hygienist that cleaned my teeth was great. We carried on good conversation the whole time (between picking and rinsing). The reception has been lively and engaging. I even managed to trade a few funny comments about one of the young dentists, about his "dashing good looks" (I'd caught him fixing his hair in a hallway mirror). I think the only thing in question, for me, are their rates. The more I ask friends about their dentists, the more I am convinced that aspen may be charging a premium that exceeds my comfort level. Three years ago I went to Aspen Dental for an annual checkup. I generally have good teeth and take good care of them. Aspen dental at that time was offering free xrays, and checking. My teeth were perfect, which apparently means they don't make any money off patients like me with excellent teeth. Towards the end of the examination, the assistant said, "well it looks like your teeth are fine." Then someone behind him said, "...no, there is a cavity in #(such and such) tooth." I remember thinking to myself, the way in which that conversation took place was rather odd. I decided to get a second opinion from another dentist later, rather than have this "cavity" filled at a followup appt. Sure enough, a few months later I did a followup with another dentist and low and behold no cavities - even with that particular tooth. 1.5 years later, still no cavity in that particular tooth (nor any other teeth). Now, three years later, still no cavity in that tooth or any other tooth. Do you get the picture here (x-ray)? In all fairness to Aspen Dental, this may have very well been an isolated incident. But, customer beware, if anything seems suspicious, or they say, "your cavity does not appear on the x-ray because it was hidden from the x-ray angle", or whatever, just get a second opinion before you let them go-a-drillin'... read more

I went because I had a wisdom tooth that had gone wild. New patient so they had to do an exam and consultation. I was able to fill in my paperwork online prior to coming in. Waited about 10 min and the X-rays exam and consult and talking to the finance person took about 90 minutes. The staff was friendly and well informed kept each other abreast of my situation and needs. I had a tooth extraction first thing in the morning the next day at 8 am and that took maybe 30 min. Dr. G was fast and buzzed around helping several patients while I numbed up. A quick painless extraction. Expert level care on all fronts. These types of dental offices are total scams. They tell you you have a ton of cavities, they try to sell you their 200-300$ tooth brush, then they refuse to book your visit to "fill your cavities" until you pre pay- locking you in-who does that? So they try to put you on the spot for all of this, luckily I had the guts to back out and say I'd call later to schedule. When I went elsewhere for a second opinion they said I didn't have any cavities to fill and if I just brushed really well then I'd be fine! Three years later going to the second opinion place and still no cavities, no gingivitis, great healthy teeth with no issues and no pressure to spend hundreds of dollars. Save yourself and pick a nice small dentist, ask friends and family for reputable places and never go to aspen or anywhere like it. Btw they even took X-rays and when I had them sent over to the other place they said they didn't see anything to worry about. For real huge red flags. Zero stars. read more

Save yourself the time. We finally went to another place and have found the service much better. My kids had complained about the x-ray pads' hurting. New place put padding on them. Wife had problems with records. New place none. Some equipment broke here and they sent my wife home half completed and with extra pain medication. I even called the "new place" that day and they offered to get her in that day. I won't put where we went because I don't want anyone to think this is a plug for another place. I have been a patient since April of 2016. I am satisfied with the care I get from the doctors, their assistants and the hygienist. With that said, the wait time to see them, even with an appointment, is excessive. On appointment days I have received calls from them asking me to come in early (due to a cancellation), just to wait past my originally scheduled appointment time. I have referred multiple people to this office only to discover they are experiencing the same issues with ridiculous wait times. I will not refer anyone else to this office! I wanted a dentist as I had moved to Eugene, OR. from out of state. I saw good reviews and made an appt. I'd hoped for a cleaning after the exam and x-rays that were done. What I got was a scare about the state of my dental hygiene. No teeth cleaning. I was shown their wonderful electric toothbrush for $135. Told I had "moderate to severe periodontal disease" and my gums were receding badly. I would need to use special medication immediately (4 times a year!) I had a cavity in my right lower bi-cuspid, and left lower bi-cuspid (matching cavities!) Apparently I also had two cracked teeth in the front and would need crowns (not right away, in the future.) The "plan summary" I was given showed that I would have to pay over $2,400 in addition to my dental insurance. I was charged $37 for the x-rays, paid by check, did not sign anything else and ran out the door. The pressure on the mark, I mean patient, to follow the "expert" advice is extreme. My last dentist that I'd used out of state for fifteen years was gentle and conservative, nothing like this shark tank. I saw a new dentist today, I had a teeth cleaning and exam. The dentist told me that my teeth were in good shape and that he's see me in six months for my next dental cleaning!! It was music to my ears. Aspen Dental in Eugene is a SCAM. I would definitely NOT recomend Aspen dental. I was a patient years ago, and ended up being recommended unnecessary extra cleanings and treatments, went back again recently after my insurance changed and had a similarly negative experience. The office never seemed to have it together.. either computers are down, the staff is complaining of being short staffed that day, or some other issue pops up. The whole experience felt pushy, unnecessarily painful, and was quoted as needing to pay much more there than when I went elsewhere to get a second opinion. My husband was also recommended to get excessive work done while there, and when he went to another place to get a second opinion found that the filling he had done just a month before needed to be redone. They are also very pushy about getting an Oral-B toothbrush. Just about every staff member I interacted with seemed to be required to advertise for them. I decided to give them another chance because they seemed the larger of the 2 Dental offices my insurance covered, but I wish I had read more of their reviews beforehand. There are many other reviews online where people had similar experiences. Save yourself some time and money and go with another dentist in town if you can. read more

This place lies to you and takes advantage of you. DON'T TRUST THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS. They told me that I had moderate periodontitis- where you lose bone density and your teeth start loosening. (They went through each of my teeth and pushed down on them to see if they were loose). The treatment plan they gave me was going to cost $2,160 out of pocket because I am a student and I don't have dental insurance- which I told them at the beginning of the appointment. And again after this diagnoses. They ALSO told me that I needed an Invisalign, at a cost of over $4,000, because the teeth on the bottom were crowding (which you cannot see from the front, only slightly when you look directly down at my teeth), and that the crowding was causing the spaces in my teeth in the back where food was getting caught. They also said I needed an Oral-B electric toothbrush. Weird that Oral-B and Invisalign were advertised all over their office- almost like they're getting paid from them or something. When I went to another dentist for a second opinion, I was told that not only do I not have moderate periodontitis, but I don't even have MILD. All I need is a regular cleaning, not one that costs over $2,000. Also- I don't need an Invisalign- my bite is great. And actually, I had two small cavities- which Aspen Dental DID NOT FIND. They told me I had zero. The second dentist told me that cavities weren't as expensive as Invisaligns. My total from the second dentist was $519- including the cleaning and the two fillings for my cavities. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!! read more

This is the worse customer service I have experienced in my entire life! It all started last year September 2021 when I was advised that I need to remove my three front teeth, one that had a root canal that never needed to be extracted I did it anyway in the process a filling beside one of the tooth came out because they had to fight to remove the tooth that had the root canal I had before and after picture they then decide to put the filling back in because I was in the office crying because no one was even looking at me. They made a flipper for me in which I paid over a 1000 a d it was not made good and it couldn't fit inside my mouth, 4 months in it keep on falling out I caught covid I called the office they said I can't come in and for 2 months im reeling from this sickness and when I do contact them they said they can't do nothing about it over the 6 months. Dentist refused to continue treatment so now I im left teeth less and jo refund and no one wants to help?? So what do I do??? I don't usually leave bad reviews but my experience here was... conflicting. Upon arrival I got there about 20 minutes early, since they made it clear that's what they prefer new patients to do. I was pretty much the only person in the waiting room, and the woman in the front desk had seen me walk in. 30-40 minutes later I still haven't been helped yet, and the staff begin to notice, though they don't help me right away, first they speak audibly about it to one another before calling me up and having me fill out their forms, which took another 20 minutes. My reason for my visit was to get 4 wisdom teeth removed, my original dentist is in San Diego, although I was looking for potential places in Eugene to get them taken out. Instead, the whole hour I was there the nurses discussed the multitude of cavities I had, a possible crown placement, and various other problems that were NOT my wisdom teeth. At this point I'm getting exasperated and skeptical, just two months before this I had my 6 month cleaning back in San Diego with my original dentist and my results came out clean, I didn't have the SEVEN cavities they claimed I had. To make matters worse, when they finally billed me in the end, they said my insurance didn't cover a majority of the expenses, totaling to about 5,000 dollars. And that wasn't even for the wisdom teeth I had came in for, that was just the crown placement and cavities they so desperately needed to take care of before they decided to remove my wisdom teeth. Being the skeptic I am, I sent the results I had received from Aspen Dental and sent them to my dentist in San Diego, and low and behold he told me that my teeth were COMPLETELY fine and that they were clearly overcharging me. I would have rated this place 1 star, but I actually did enjoy the conversation I had with my nurse who was super nice and accommodating (although she did attempt to sell me a 130 dollar electric toothbrush on top of a 5400 bill lol). Low quality dental work. Unprofessional employees. They say you don't need insurance but watch out they will get you to sign up for a unethical credit card company with rates over 20 percent. They forgot to bill me so I missed a payment so my bill was sent to a collection company. In over 50 years I've never not paid a bill on time. Their business office is deplorable. I waited 40 minutes to talk to their business manager and when he was off the phone he came out told me he was going to lunch. Too bad. They say they will only do dental work that's needed. They will give you a 10 page printout of needed dental work and unless you are a med student you will not have a clue what the printout is stating. read more
