I liked the hygienist and dentists, but I ultimately left because the office staff was incompetent. They incorrectly billed my insurance more than once and would often bill me for work I had already paid for upon completion. At one point, a newly hired office employee called me and asked if I still worked for [name of company] and it literally only shared a first letter with my company, even though I had given the office staff a copy of my insurance card with the company name on it. This employee told me this wasn't an uncommon error and that she had been hired in the wake of multiple firings from previous staff who made a lot of mistakes. I decided to go to another local dentist that can actually figure out how to bill insurance and not hire people so easily confused. Again, the actual dentists and hygienists are fine... and hopefully the front office staff is much better than it was circa 2015-ish. read more

Unfortunately many of the staff are completely incompetent and extremely rude. When making an emergency appointment due to pain and then what they do to consult makes ZERO sense. Also, they completely Violated HIPAA in regards to sharing information with someone other than the patient after specifically noting in office to not share information with anyone other than the patient. I 100% should have read the reviews prior to making an appointment and would advise everyone to do the same. I am neurodivergent: adhd, autistic, ptsd, anxiety attacks... I had put off going to get my teeth fixed for many years. My avoidance of going to the dentist was so strong that I endured not only losing 2 teeth that were visibly gone whenever I smiled, but had been enduring several teeth in the back that caused me constant pain. I worked with a therapist and finally found a window of opportunity to go in. I was absolutely amazed at the dental skills employed but maybe even more by the fact that the entire staff seemed to know intuitively what might be bothersome for me and anticipated my fear and anxiety in advance of me having to say anything. They even recognized how someone like me might not feel comfortable having people stand behind them so throughout the time I was there, both visits, they would always let me know they were there. They anticipated that those cardboard slides they do the scans with might feel to me like I had a mouthful of knives and so she used the children-sized ones which were much more comfortable and easier to endure. They somehow knew that explaining everything little thing to me would lessen my stress and they didn't seem to tire of all the explaining. The dentist even showed me the tray of tools which can appear intimidating but he explained that most of them were just standard for setting up the tray and that he really was only going to use a couple of items which he showed me. And they all laughed at my stupid jokes which I learned is a real easy way to relax--just get everyone in the room laughing with you. I can't say enough good things about Dr Tam and his whole staff. It's crazy that I'm actually looking forward to my next visit, getting a second tooth pulled. That's how nice and smart they are. I would not recommend Aspen Dental. I sat down with them and got a detailed cost analysis on the work that was to be done on my mouth prior to having it completed in Oct 2023. I continued to use them through 2024. I had received a letter while I was going to them in 2024 that they had not properly billed my insurance for some of the work done in November and December in 2023. I spoke with them multiple times about getting it corrected and every time they said they were sorry and saw what the mistake was and would fix it. Now it's past the time that the insurance will actually pay the claim. I took out a loan and paid in advance my portion of the cost now they have sent me to collections for the cost they were supposed to get paid from the insurance but failed to bill properly. So much for their price upfront, no hidden fees, guaranteed promise. I will never recommend this company and I highly worn anyone that's considering becoming a patient of theirs. My last visits to Aspen Dental were a total disaster. From telling me I needed to extract teeth without even trying to save them, to a new crown which is too large and popped out twice even with plenty of cement, to telling me I need a new partial after the crown was mounted, nothing went right. There was a change in Office Managers and the new Office Manager wouldn't listen to me nor talk to the original Office Manager to find out what she said. I filed a complaint with the Oregon Board of Dentistry as well as a complaint with my insurance company. I've already been billed twice for recementing the crown and shouldn't have to pay for shoddy work, nor should I have to pay for work which should not have had to be done. I've got a new dentist and I couldn't be happier. Even though I had to get a new partial, it was less than a third of the cost which Aspen would have charged. read more

I am going to report them to Delta Dental (my insurance) and get them off their referral list. I am not a patient at Aspen Dental. Visiting from CA, my son was at a trampoline park, hit his jaw on the edge of the trampoline and chipped 2 teeth, injured front lower 4. I didn't know what to do, so I took a chance, found Aspen Dental nearby, and went in. I was greeted immediately, told my son's story, and they put him on a waitlist. My son was seen within 45 minutes, X-rays, quick exam, and we were out fairly quickly without any major problems with my son's teeth. The whole entire staff working on 11/21/22 went above and beyond from start to finish, and I can't thank them enough. They were so caring and sweet, thorough, made a traumatic experience into a great one! read more

I had to make a Yelp account just to post this review in hopes of saving at least one person from this place. Absolutely awful. Both me and my younger sister went to Aspen Dental for several years and have had consistently bad experiences. The hygienist is incredibly rude and will not listen to you about your issues. He just makes up problems. I have issues with tooth sensitivity that make it difficult to brush my teeth consistently. When I told him this he asked if I have sugary drinks more than once a day- I said no. He then went on to say that it must be because I drink too many sugary drinks and gave me no other solutions. They refused to treat my teeth until I fixed this nonexistent problem, so my cavities and sensitivity only got worse. I also had to get crowns one time and the experience was awful. The crowns were far too large to fit and had to be sanded down for ages. Eventually they weren't able to sand the crowns anymore and started to sand the healthy teeth above the crowns. Even after all that the crowns still don't fit right and my bite is messed up and gives me jaw pain. Recently we had an experience where my sister (17 years old) had an appointment and two staff members called my mother back to berate her. First was the hygienist being his usual rude self, then another woman who berated my mother for being a 'bad parent' and threatened to call CPS. What do they expect my mom to do? Hold my sister down and physically force her to brush her teeth? Has Aspen Dental never heard of mental health issues having an impact on oral hygiene? A 17 year old brushing their teeth is their own responsibility, my mom has done all she can to encourage tooth brushing and threatening her like this is horrible. Absolutely despicable service, especially because they did all this in front of my sister. Not to mention the billing issues that caused them to stop giving us care partway through a treatment plan and eventually charging over $10,000 to treat my sister again. Once her treatment plan is done, we are NEVER coming back. I urge you, find literally any other dentist. How many times are you going to copy and paste the same generic response? Stay away money trap!! first they tell you your gums are so bad that your jaws are gonna drop off, then they sign you up for a $4000 treatment plan which consists of 2 one hour sessions with hygienist , who is employed by a completely different company, then they set you up for every three months appointment and you think this is included. No, when you show up they ask the you pay about $700, you could rent a small apartment for that. But the initial problem you came in with is never solved, they sent you to a so-called specialist in Portland with Clear choice, even though there are several providers available in your ZIP Code, that specialist wouldn't touch you unless you put out $19,000 right away and that's a partial treatment and would not even take care of temporary cosmetic problem. My husband needed a route canal revision by an endodontist and ended up having this done by Dr. Case at Aspen. The whole experience was great and we felt very confident in her skills and bedside manner! I was concerned by the reviews here, but since I am familiar with insurance and medical billing and this is a preferred provider for our new dental insurance, decided to give it a try. Not only was Dr. Case able to save the tooth, but save the crown, and do the filling herself so that we didn't have to have another dental visit for that too. The out of pocket cost was about $1,000 lower than we were quoted at the out of network endodontist our dentist initially referred to. Shopping around for medical/dental care always makes me uneasy, but I would not hesitate for anyone in our family to go to Aspen Dental. While many reviewers don't like upfront payment requirement we really appreciated that there were no surprises in cost and it was a straightforward process! Note: we did experience the additional (advanced) X-ray requirement, but this made it possible to visualize the root that was actually missed in the initial root canal and causing issues now, so the relevance of this requirement became obvious and was beneficial for my husband's care. read more

Finally was able to reach someone, same day but 30 minutes after the appointment when their office opened. Here's the big picture: Aspen Dental targets uninsured patients and overcharges them on unnecessary services. This has been my experience. This is the experience of most other reviewers. They were investigated by the Pennsylvania Attorney General for this behavior. They were hit with a class action lawsuit for this behavior. From my experience, nothing has changed. Do not come here. If you see Aspen dental, seek a second opinion immediately. My experience with Aspen dental began positively. The office is tidy and hygienists were friendly. My experience began to sour when I started my treatment. I came in for a cleaning and checkup, but the treatment only consisted of a gum inspection. The hygienist quickly declared that I had a case of early periodontitis. They insisted that I needed to take action immediately. I was scared, since I brush regularly, floss, and use mouthwash and hardly expected this from a routine checkup. Before I had time to think, they convinced me to pay a deposit of $1,500 (I chose to prepay instead of taking on the loan they were pushing on me) for the periodontal scaling treatment scheduled for the next day, and to purchase a $135 toothbrush. Fortunately, I read the other reviews here and suspected that something was amiss. I canceled my appointment immediately. Aspen tried to convince me to stay by saying that they wouldn't be able to fill my time slot, that my procedure was extremely urgent, and by saying that nobody has ever canceled and asked for their money back before. I sought a second opinion at Oakmont Family Dental and was told that I did not need periodontal scaling and that my teeth were healthy. They told me that they did not see any of the bone loss that Aspen claimed to see on my x-rays. I was nearly conned into a $2,100 treatment. Looking back on it, Aspen employs a typical strategy of a scam artist. They lure uninsured and underinsured people with a promise of a free check-up, then scare you with a drastic diagnosis, and while you're panicking they sell you a bill of goods. They will try to send you home with a $135 dollar tooth brush, Invisalign, and a line of credit for a treatment you don't need. Avoid them at all costs. I do not recommend them. I had to replace a crown they installed in fewer than four years. My experience in their office was a series of unfortunate events; I only hung in because I had insurance that covered it but then found a new dentist. The crown Aspen installed came loose and turns out it had been over-cemented, then ground down to compensate, and had holes in the bite surface. My better dentist said there was so much cement in there, it was covering up the holes. So I had to buy a new crown, and I'm currently a cash customer without insurance. I called their office and was told, "We can't guarantee the life of a crown." Oh, thank you, office robot. I called their remote customer service and they said a manager would call within two days. 10 days later I called again. Today the regional manager said according to their records nothing is compensable. What their records aren't reflecting (even though I shared this feedback along the way with Aspen), is how I was pressed on the first visit to go online and give a five star review (before services were provided), or how the person who did the impressions was disheveled, unprofessional, and kept saying how she's such a mess as she got the goo all over my face, or how the person who installed the crown seemed unsure and kept leaving for long periods, and seemed to have trouble getting the crown right. No, all they say is customer was happy. So Aspen Dental is getting its review. I expressed at least 4 times that I was only there for a standard teeth cleaning. Seeing the average score being 1 star on yelp makes much more sense than the high score they have on google. I have a slew of bad dental experiences but Aspen dental in Eugene takes the cake for unprofessionalism and overall terrible experience. I was meant to get a pretreatment on my root canal and during my first treatment their machines stopped working halfway through, and it was chalked up by the professional as "My bad luck" not demeaning at all. For some reason I came back the next week to finish the treatment, the reason being that they charge you upfront for everything and I had already paid for the treatment and I wanted it finished before they could cause any further financial and emotional damage. Whenever I went in the second week, after they have numbed me with the giant shots, they informed me that yet again their machine was broken. One time happening? I can understand but twice to the same patient? I am sorry but that is unacceptable. I sat there patiently waiting for them to see what they were going to do, not to mention they should have checked if the broken machine from last week was working before numbing me- or that's what a professional who cares about their patients would have done. The machine finally turned on and it was spun as a joke about my bad luck and I was reassured that I would not be charged extra for the inconveniences. Now I have to wait a month for me refund from Aspen dental for the services that I cannot go back in for and switch dentists after receiving my refund. And NO the refund was not for the extremely poor service I received it is for the crown I have not started yet. I was offered not way to resolve my issue or any discount on the service that I received. If you want to pay extremely high costs and be treated terribly you have found the right dentist! I am absolutely baffled at the fact that there was no compensation offered to a patient who would have to undergo what I went through with them in the last two weeks. Hopefully my review sends somebody away from here and onto a place that values the people who spend their money there. A new dentist screwed up a filling and made a mess so I needed a root canal before I could get a crown. I called around because the place I went to before was booked and the only open spot was at Aspen Dental. I made the appointment and gave them all of my insurance info. They asked for over $500 up front and any extra would be returned after insurance paid. The first visit, they went over the financials with me and told me I was well ahead $$ wise because they already had authorization from insurances. They said I would likely get over $100 back. They started the root canal and then said they needed another picture and that I could get it locally at another endodontists office or I could drive to Albany and they could do it there and have access to more if needed so, I did. When I arrived in Albany, the front desk girl asked if I was going to pay the $250+ that was due ! I asked what she was talking about and a lady from another office came out and stated that she didn't see the $500+ I had paid upfront. They told me this visit was to finish what they started wouldn't add any more to the bill and they appreciated me driving up there. They finished the procedure and I left. Then I get a $600+ bill !!! I called and they said that the billing was sent incorrectly to insurance and not to pay it, they would get ahold of me. I called later due to not hearing from them and talked to someone that had no clue as to what was going on, much like the girl in Albany. Now, over 6 months later, I get a bill for more than the original $600+ previously sent. Keep in mind, when this all started, I was told I was getting over $100+ back and I had nothing extra done. I was told by another individual that is a medical billing specialist, that some businesses billing offices bill extra to make up for the amounts they are forced to write off for state funded and state insured patients. She said people with good insurance or multiple insurances end up paying for it, which, I am sure is the case here. My cost almost doubled over night. My advice ? If you have good insurance or private insurance, STAY AWAY !!!! They don't have the slightest idea what they are doing when it comes to your money. You WILL pay more even after they give you a final $ figure for a procedure. I WILL NEVER step foot into an Aspen Dental again ! Period !!!! I normally have a different dentist covered by Oregon Health Plan, but due to the severity of my root pain I needed emergency work done and paid out of pocket for a root canal. My issue with Aspen isn't how much it cost, and my root canal went very well indeed. However, after my root canal was done and I was informed of my temporary filling that would last no longer than a month, I tried to schedule the followup to get a crown put on. They told me that a crown wasn't part of my treatment plan and that they wouldn't schedule it. In fact--they told me--they couldn't do any work unless I got a periodontal cleaning done first, which cost $2,708.00. So there I was left with a temporary filling and they wouldn't even help me plan or prioritize in order to get the rest of my work taken care of. It was then that the "scammy" vibe I was getting from them was solidified. In my initial appointment, the checking of my gums seemed rather careless and fast, and I was given what sounded like a perfectly rehearsed script in prescribing periodontal therapy. During the rest of my visit I overheard the exact same pitch happening in the exam space next to me. I get a distinct impression they are put up to pushing unnecessary procedures by upper management in order to maximize profits. As people they are experienced, knowledgeable, and (mostly) friendly, but as a business I wouldn't recommend them if you want to trust that someone has your best interests in mind. read more
