The surgeon explained everything clearly and took the time to answer my questions, which really helped ease my nerves. The procedure went smoothly, and my recovery was much better than I expected. I'm very grateful for the excellent care and would highly recommend this office to anyone needing oral surgery.

BEWARE OF SHADING BILLING!!!…read more I brought my 15 year old daughter here for removal of her 4 wisdom teeth. She chose to not be put under general anesthesia. They initially charged me for general anesthesia, just in case. I didn't realize this until they later sent me a bill for about 100 bucks, stating I have a balance owed. I compared their bill to the insurance claim and low and behold I found the discrepancy charge for general anesthesia which meant I actually would be needing a refund. Boy was this difficult to get. Multiple phones calls, the women who does insurance told me they no longer accept my insurance and next time I will have to deal with insurance. Ok well I don't plan on removing any more wisdom teeth or having more kids so I am ok with that. In the end they told me they can't even issue refunds but instead a third party does and instead of refunding me the payer and adult eventually they cut a check to my daughter. This took over 6 months to resolve and like I said multiple calls. This could have damaged my credit having a bill owed. Double check any bills they send against your insurance claim as these people are shady. Some other information that might be useful to those looking for dental extractions. The bed side manner of the dentist preforming the work was to say the least creepy, he didn't numb her enough as he was annoyed she didn't want to be put under. He would have to stop when she was in pain and crying to re numb her. He whistled while he did the work, while my 15 year was crying. He just acted like he couldn't hear her.

At one point, a newly hired office employee called me and asked if I still worked for [name of company] and it literally only shared a first letter with my company, even though I had given the office staff a copy of my insurance card with the company name on it. This employee told me this wasn't an uncommon error and that she had been hired in the wake of multiple firings from previous staff who made a lot of mistakes. I decided to go to another local dentist that can actually figure out how to bill insurance and not hire people so easily confused. Again, the actual dentists and hygienists are fine... and hopefully the front office staff is much better than it was circa 2015-ish.

Unfortunately many of the staff are completely incompetent and extremely rude. When making an…read moreemergency appointment due to pain and then what they do to consult makes ZERO sense. Also, they completely Violated HIPAA in regards to sharing information with someone other than the patient after specifically noting in office to not share information with anyone other than the patient. I 100% should have read the reviews prior to making an appointment and would advise everyone to do the same. That all being said the gal on the phone and several in the office were extremely polite, kind, caring etc. It just takes 1 bad seed...

I started going to Gemmel after Dr. MISNER was forced to retire due to a medical condition…read more At first, he was great. You could joke with him, pleasant personality. As years went by, the entire office was remodeled and all these beautiful, certainly expensive, antiques adorned the office. I started noticing his personality was different. Long story short. He thinks he's a pretty boy and better than others. Strictly my opinion. I don't care for people who have that stuck up attitude. His receptionist at the time thought so as well. I stopped going to him and so did the rest of my family. This was just dumb luck. He purchased an already thriving business. How nice for him.

I as referred to Dr. Gemmell by an oral surgeon because he was my oral surgeon's dentist. On the…read morefirst appointment, instead of seeing Dr. Gemmell as was requested, I was referred to a junior dentist in the office, Dr. Jaros. I am sure that Dr. Jaros is quite qualified to do routine procedures and work, but my situation was complicated (I was in an accident and lost several teeth) needing multiple extractions and implants. Because it took almost 2 weeks to get an appointment, I did not ask to be seen by Dr. Gemmell and stayed with Dr. Jaros. I asked that Dr. Gemmell review it my plan. This review took several days but it confirmed what we had thought. He said their office could NOT EVEN DO the fitting/mold that was in their original written plan that they provided. What is most disturbing about this is that Dr. Jaros had already written a prescription and given it to me! This prescription was for an extremely powerful narcotic. Staring this red huge flag in the face, we sought out second opinions on the treatment plan written by Dr. Jaros. All three dentists and one denturist, we contacted all agreed that the plan that was given to me wasn't sound and that it would not last a year. It should be noted that that there is a code among medical professionals to not downgrade another professionals work. But this plan was that bad and they all told me they would not recommend going forward with it. Lastly, when you sign up in this office, they ask you to fill out some lengthy forms regarding email privacy and you are given literally double the paperwork of any other office I visited in Eugene (remember, I went to 4 other offices after I was seen at this office). This is my profession and I am very aware of the cyber security laws involved here. These are all forms that subtract patient rights and are highly unusual. Additionally, they didn't provide their privacy policy but asked me to acknowledge that I had read and understood it. In summary, this is a long time respected practice where the main practitioner is phasing out and retiring. The new dentist(s) may improve over time but I would not recommend paying these absorbent fees so they can practice on you. If I would have accepted their original plan, I would have been affected for a lifetime.
