They just cancelled the appointment in the old MyChart. When I called to ask what happened, I was told my mother was a "no show" and they would have set her up in the new instance if she had come in. I asked, "How would we have known to show up to an appointment you had cancelled?" The receptionist caught a huge attitude with me. She said, "I don't know what to tell you" and "What do you expect me to do about it?" I said this is literally your job. I told her some compassion and understanding would have gone a long way, and she said "I'm sitting here listening to you aren't I?" She never once asked if my mom required an urgent appointment (she did) and offered me an appointment 6 weeks out. I'm sure she thought she was really clever sticking it to an 82-year-old woman with advanced congestive heart failure. May your mother suffer a similar fate, Natalie. I filed a complaint and someone competent called me back and got my mom in the following Monday. We arrived and the receptionist working was so consumed telling another receptionist about her Jerry-Springer-show-worthy family and relationship drama, she completely forgot we were sitting there. Again, the actual care is good, fine, great. But they're really scraping the bottom of the Salem trailer parks for staff.

He is patient and thorough in explaining the information to someone who recently had a heart attack. Despite being busy, there was no problem working us in for an appointment and the staff was excellent from start to the person that checked us out.

Then Sequoia guided me to the treatment room, I was offered a choice of tea and essential oil, I chose eucalyptus! Love eucalyptus, he let me know he's getting a diffuser soon, but for now he incorporated the essential oil into the treatment. After I sat down, he took my pulse and asked a few questions to clarify my responses on the intake form. And inquired any areas of concern I had, I said 'hormonal acne, left side of my neck is tight and right erector muscle' Then he left the room, I undressed to my level of comfort (I'm a massage therapist, so I'm super comfortable in this setting), placed my jewelry in the bowl provided and got on the massage table, under the flat sheet. During the treatment I was gently mesmerized by the music and felt a release in my left levator scapulae ( back neck muscle) as he needled it. He addressed my other concerns too and responded with a thorough answer when I asked what a certain point was for, or when I asked for the music to be a bit quieter he happily obliged. By the end I was drifting in parasympathetic mode aka 'rest and digest'. Very calm and peaceful place for your nervous system to switch into to heal and realign itself. I hate being in hospital (only two very short prior experiences in 80+ years) but had to have two…read moreknee replacement surgeries done via South Coast Orthopedics, done at Bay Area Hospital with an overnight stay required each time. Experiences at the hospital were excellent. Separate ward with single rooms for orthopedics, available sleeping accommodation in rooms for spouse or other person accompanying. Meal service was restaurant quality - quite a lot of menu choices for almost any taste and need, meals available upon request and delivered hot by meal service staff. Nurse signed in each shift change, nurses were very attentive. Operation preparation and operating room nurses and staff also were first rate and efficient. Only problem was overnight when being wired up to monitoring equipment, blood oxygen level alarm was set at something like 92, for me the alarm went off quite a lot and woke me, had to call the ward desk to have a nurse switch it off. Finally at first stay the nurse thankfully switched the alarm off completely. But I recognize the reason for the alarm.

Well, as a former employee myself, I never expected to become a patient, especially not an ICU Heart patient. It has been so long since I retired that nobody there knew me except for one nurse. I was very grateful for the level of professionalism I was accorded and the timeliness of everyone involved. Having a Triple Bypass is no picnic. However, the staff continued to assure me all along the way. All accommodations were made for my needs and that of the Mrs. Staff were exceedingly polite and very patient with us as we navigated this 'other side of the coin'. Everyone from Registration all the way to the CNA that wheelchaired me to the exit door were very nice. It is amazing how differently people come across when your life is in their hands. I am exceedingly grateful and appreciative of all the staff and care I received while I was there. Now I am home and completing recovery from my successful surgery. I feel great and look forward gratefully to the next few decades this surgery has provided me.

The only reason I cannot give 5 stars, Emergency room is way understaffed and often takes many…read morehours to be treated if not critical. However, when moved to see an ER doctor the care is top notch. Cardiac Care Unit is absolutely the best. Doctors, Nurses, Surgeon's, all who give care are absolutely above the curve.
